Slow in Detroit also. This slowing in trend may be attributed to a significant decline in population over the years. The weekend in the Detroit area, a man was shot while sitting in car outside Detroit seafood market. Investigators are also investigating a triple shooting in Warren. Also a man was killed, another wounded in shooting at a Detroit tire store.
[NEWS.YAHOO] Democratic Republic of the Congo ...formerly the Congo Free State, Belgian Congo, Zaire, and who knows what else, not to be confused with the Brazzaville Congo aka Republic of Congo, which is much smaller and much more (for Africa) stable. DRC gave the world Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Mobutu, followed by years of tedious civil war. Its principle industry seems to be the production of corpses. With a population of about 74 million it has lots of raw material... declared an Ebola outbreak in its northern Equateur province on Sunday after two out of eight cases tested came back positive for the deadly virus, Health Minister Felix Kabange Numbi said.
A mysterious disease has killed dozens of people in Equateur in recent weeks but the World Health Organization had said on Thursday it was not Ebola.
"I declare an Ebola epidemic in the region of Djera, in the territory of Boende in the province of Equateur," Kabange Numbi told a news conference.
The region lies about 1,200 km (750 miles) north of the capital Kinshasa.
Numbi said that one of the two cases that tested positive was for the Sudanese strain of the disease, while the other was a mixture between the Sudanese and the Zaire strain -- the most lethal variety. The outbreak in West Africa that has killed at least 1,427 people in West Africa since March is the Zaire strain.

The thugs are thinking "that citizen that I'm about to rob just might be armed and I might get my sweet arse blown away"? Could be. In other places, violent crime has declined when citizens carry. Not a stretch.
Intensive fighting near Ilovaisk in southeast Ukraina enters its fifth day, according to data supplied by English and Russian language news sources.
Since late last week Ukrainian army and police forces have been trying to drive a wedge between the two most critical cities in the Donbass conflict, Donetsk and Lugansk in several areas, namely near Krasnii Luch, but mostly near Ilovaisk, which is about 12 to 15 kilometers southeast of Donetsk.

According to the Voice of Sevastopol, militia forces estimate that the number of Ukrainian forces of all kinds in the Ilovaisk region number 4,000 troops, the equivalent of two combat brigades, while militia forces number about 1,500.
Pro Russian militias report fighting in the Krasnii Luch region near Krasny Luch and Anthracite.
"Separate clashes with the punitive troops took place in settlements Bolshaya Vergunka, Stanichno-Luganskoye and Malonikolaevka.

Reports are Ukrainian units are in panic, although the report fails to note if they are in flight. Militia forces have already seized Belaya Gora and Borovskoe, which is just to the southeast of Severodonetsk. According to a separate report the firefight lasted three hours.
Just on the outskirts of Lugansk to the northwest pro Russian militia have established a defensive line near Petrovka
