#1  In this excerpt from Terrorism Awareness: Understanding the Threat and how you can Protect Yourself author Robert H. Deatherage, Jr. shares some steps you can take to increase your chances of surviving a terrorist hijacking.

DO NOT:

• Give terrorists long hard looks and stare at them.

• Argue with them about their goals, their beliefs or about what they are doing. They just violated international law and are now fugitives from the world, do you really think you are going to talk them into changing their mind?

• Attempt to talk first, by raising your hand or standing up. They do not want to hear what you have to say and they truly don’t care. By continuing your effort to make yourself a player in some way in this drama you are just making yourself more of a target.

• Make obscene gestures. Trust me, they know what they mean and they are watching everyone or trying to so thinking you are sneaky and can outsmart them could get you made an example of.

If you are enough of a problem or instigator the terrorists could simply kill you as an example to the others, or they could kill the person sitting next to you to prove to you they can do it. Whenever you confront people in this situation, they will have to do something to maintain fear and dominance over those they have in their control. Don’t force them into this action by being stubborn and stupid, because it is not only your life in danger.

Terrorism Awareness: Understanding the Threat and How You Can Protect Yourself
By Robert H. Deatherage Jr.

Because of September 11th, and the flights involving the Pentagon and the World Trade Center, you may need to take action while on board the aircraft. This is a decision you make. No one can tell you what to do and when to do it. Remember that if you decide to take action you could cause more harm than good, but ultimately it is your decision to make based upon the circumstance of the situation taking place and what you KNOW for fact before you act. Some things to consider are:

• Is a Federal Marshal on the aircraft? How many? If you know for a fact they are there then stay out of it and let them do their job, but be ready to assist. Do not rush forward volunteering; remember the Marshal DOES NOT KNOW WHO you are or WHAT your intentions are when he is dealing with this threat.

• How heavily armed are the hijackers? What weapons do they have, what do you see? Do they have handguns and explosives? If they have knives or other weapons but no firearms and say they have a bomb, consider the security you just went through to get on board. How good was it? Could they have gotten a device on board? If so why couldn’t they get firearms also?

• How many hijackers are there and do they closely monitor activities of passengers and air crew? Do they have enough people to watch all sections where there are passengers and crew at all times? Are they continually walking back and forth checking between passenger compartments? Are they forcing everyone into one area? These could be signs that they don’t have enough people to watch everyone at once.

• How are they conducting themselves? Do they look like they have a plan? A chain of command? Set goals mean they are organized and probably have training of some kind.

• Are pilots left in control of the plane? The cockpit of the aircraft is lockable from the inside and cannot be breached. If the pilots are still in control and flying they are going to put the plane on the ground as soon as possible and let the authorities deal with it. If this is the case you should allow this to happen as it increases your chance of survival and escape once on the ground. If the door has been breached and the pilots and crew are no longer operating the aircraft, then you need to consider the option of trying to stop what is taking place.

• What are the hijackers’ destination and other demands? Where do they want to go? This will give you an insight into who they are. Is it a realistic goal? More than likely with the pilots still in control of the aircraft (secure cockpit) they will land at the nearest friendly airport, regardless of where the skyjackers want to land.

• Are the hijackers demanding ID from passengers? This means the have a specific agenda and are looking for people of certain nationalities, affiliations or professions to target as their immediate victims. It could also mean they are looking for one specific person and/or his family. Are they separating people by nationality? Job? Sex? This could also give a clue as to what their agenda may be.

• Is someone in a position to resist the hijackers? Are there sky marshals on board? Is the pilot armed? Are there other federal law enforcement or undercover security on board that can and will resist the hijackers when it is called for?

• Are passengers able to place calls to people on the ground without getting caught, either using cell phones or the plane’s phones? If so this could be a large boost to authorities on the ground, negotiators, and rescue team since information can be passed from sources besides the skyjackers themselves about what is taking place (and possibly some photos or film), allowing authorities to begin planning before the plane lands.

In the event of a hijacking remain calm and comply with the directions of the hijacker. Do not get confrontational or argue; continuously evaluate the situation as it plays out and react accordingly. One of the ways that will help you do this is to have an EMERGENCY PLAN OF ACTION: As soon as you know for sure you are hijacked, take the opportunity to assess all cover and concealment that is available around you, in case shooting starts. Pay attention to and watch the emergency exits, especially the ones closest to you. If you are on the ground, rescue attempts will start there as they are the only way into the aircraft. Also, this is your fastest way out of the plane, so have a plan to get to one, and know how to open it.

You need to develop EPA for all the different situations that can happen at altitude and on the ground. One of your plans on the ground should be a plan to initiate EPA of finding cover and getting off the airplane as quickly as possible if the terrorists begin mass killings, or begin randomly firing into the passengers. NOTE: attitudes and perceptions have changed drastically since 9-11 and for many people it means the attitude of “not again” which makes them supper aggressive and confrontational. Several military and law enforcement people I have trained in the past have said “I am going to attack those F@@@ers anyway, screw’em”, but in these types of situations this is a BAD idea. There have been several instances of skyjackings after 9-11 that have ended with no casualties among either the skyjackers or more importantly, the passengers. A gung ho, gonna kill ‘em all attitude can not only get you killed but result in the death of everyone else on the plane. REMEMBER THIS: IF THE PILOTS ARE FLYING THE PLANE AND THE COCKPIT HAS NOT BEEN BREACHED, DO NOTHING. Anything you do or attempt to do will only escalate an already dangerous situation. In this situation, the pilots will land at the first sign of trouble at the nearest airport, then the professionals will handle it. By attacking when there is no need you could cause the skyjackers to fire their weapons rupturing the skin of the aircraft or killing other passengers, or they could intentionally or unintentionally set off explosives. Do not forget about other security or law enforcement personnel that may already be on the plane and have a plan of action. Disrupting things, attacking the threat and causing them to react violently against you or others could DISRUPT THE PLANS of those professionals who are trying to end the situation. You need to continually evaluate the situation, know who is in charge of flying the aircraft, and pay attention to what is taking place around you. ATTACKING the skyjackers is an OPTION OF LAST RESORT, when the cockpit has been breached and the air crew is no longer flying the plane but the terrorists are.

14 militants killed by Egypt Army
[ARABNEWS] Egyptian troops have killed 14 jihadis in shoot-outs in the restive Sinai Peninsula, scene of an insurgency since the ouster of President Muhammad Mursi, the army says.

It said 47 people were placed in durance vile
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in the festivities on Saturday that state news agency MENA said broke out near Sheikh Zuwaid in north Sinai.

Also on Saturday, four children were killed when a mortar round crashed into their home in El-Joura, a suspected bastion of murderous Moslems.

Officials said the mortar attack apparently targeted soldiers and police combing the area for holy warriors who had rubbed out two senior officers.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
Egypt's army said Sunday it has destroyed 13 more tunnels connecting the Sinai Peninsula to the Gazoo Strip, taking to 1,639 the overall number it has laid waste to.

Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,, which is the main power in Gazoo, reportedly uses the tunnels to smuggle arms, food and money into the blockaded coastal enclave.

Ties between Hamas and Cairo have deteriorated since the Egyptian army deposed Mursi on July 3, 2013. Hamas is an affiliate of Mursi's Moslem Brüderbund.

Cairo also accuses of Hamas of being involved in murderous Moslem attacks inside Egypt, which have multiplied since Mursi was toppled

Egypt destroys 13 more Gaza tunnels
[Iran Press TV] Egypt has demolished 13 more tunnels between the country and the Gazoo Strip, which has been under an Israeli blockade for the past seven years.

The army said on Sunday that it had destroyed the tunnels in the Sinai Peninsula, but did not say when they were demolished.

The tunnels are the only lifeline for Paleostinians living under the Israeli siege and Egypt has so far laid waste to 1,639 of them.

Since the ouster of Egypt's former president Mohammed Morsi last July, the Egyptian military has launched a campaign to destroy the tunnels, preventing the people in Gazoo from bringing in most of their basic goods like construction materials, food, and fuel into the coastal enclave, which has been hit by Israeli Arclight airstrikes since July 8.

Explosion at arms depot in Khoms
[Libya Herald] An arms depot in Khoms blew up yesterday afternoon, reportedly killing one man, a Syrian, and injuring three others, all Libyans.

A petrol station next to the depot was damaged in the blast and the main coastal road which runs through the town temporarily closed as a result. The blast would have been worse but for the fact that the petrol station is said not to have had any fuel at the time.

The kaboom is said to have been an accident although the exact reason has not been divulged. It is reported, however, that arms were being moved at the time from the depot to send to Central Libya Shield

Intense fighting in Benghazi continues
[Libya Herald] There has been intense fighting throughout much of the day in Benghazi's Buatni and Leithi districts as bully boyz attacked the Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. ' headquarters with missiles and were attacked in turn by air and counter missile strikes. There were massive kabooms and smoke rising into the sky.

Benghazi Medical Centre (BMC) report at least 10 bodies being brought in as well as 50 injured. The hospital also put out an appeal for blood, saying it was desperately short. Doctors and nurses at the hospital have been working round the clock to deal with the injured.

Because of the intensity of the fighting, residents in the Musakam area near Leithi have been fleeing their homes in fear.

"We tried to stay but a missile hit our building. We left instantly, but there was heavy street fighting nearby," one resident told the Libya Herald.

Much of the city is also suffering from power cuts as a result of an electricity station being hit yesterday. It has affected the mobile phone service and the internet. Both are down.

The festivities in Benghazi have been almost non-stop over the past few days. The number of dead taken to the BMC today was much the same today as Wednesday, when it received nine bodies and 20 injured, again because of fighting in Buatni. Others have been taken to the hospital in Marj, the operational centre of the Hafter's forces. It too has reported shortages not only of equipment and medications but also of doctors and other medical staff.

For its part, the 17 February Battalion
...aka February 17th Martyrs Brigade is considered the largest and best armed militia in eastern Libya. It is financed by the defense ministry and consists of at least 12 battalions. At Benina, over the weekend, missiles have also hit Benina airport. According to the airport management, at least six went kaboom! there in the past 24 hours.

Benghazi Joint Security Room (BJSR) has denied social media reports that its head, Colonel Abdullah Al-Saiti, had stopped supporting Operation Dignity led by retired General Khalifa Hafter. In a statement, BJSR said the rumours were "unfounded" and a "cheap attempt" to discredit the Security Room in the person of its president and to confuse its members.
The Times of Israel adds:
Heavy clashes between Libyan soldiers loyal to a renegade general and Islamist-led militias killed 38 people, health officials said Sunday, as fighting between rival militias around the capital's international airport raged on and European nations warned their citizens to leave.

Commando forces regained control of four military camps captured by Islamist militias in the past few days, the official said. The fighting killed eight militia fighters, including the brother of an alleged leader of an al-Qaeda-inspired group, the official and a militia website statement said.

The statement published on the website of the powerful Islamist militia Rafallah Sahati confirmed the death of Ahmed al-Zahawi, brother of Mohammed al-Zahawi, the leader of Ansar al-Shariah. US officials believe Ansar al-Shariah was behind the Sept. 11, 2012, attack in Benghazi that killed US Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.

Anti-war protests in Tripoli after organiser is abducted
[Libya Herald] Hundreds of protesters crowded into Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's Algeria Square late last night demanding an end to the fighting in the city between revolutionary groups backed by Misratan forces on the one side and Zintanis and their allies on the other. They also demanded that one of the organizers of the event, Abdulmoez Banun, who was seized in front of his home in the capital on Thursday, be freed.

The protest, which started at around 10pm and lasted until 1am, was located in Algeria Square because the headquarters of Tripoli Municipal Council is there. The protestors want the council to take action to stop the fighting.

According to Hashem Bishr
...head of the Libya Ministry of Interior's now-disbanded Supreme Security Committee, which operated as a parallel security force to the army and the police, with a reputed 140,000 men under arms..
, the former head of the now disbanded Supreme Security Committee, Banun was taken by men under the orders of Haithem Tajouri
...Commander of the pro-(Islamist) government First Support Brigade...
who, he said, were investigating him.

Condemning the arrest, he said that Banun had been taken specifically because he had organised the protest to end the fighting.

It has been reported that some revolutionaries were now trying to claim that because Banun was trying to stop the festivities he was pro-Zintani and against the 17 February Revolution.

There were conflicting reports this morning that he had been released but also one that he was about to make a "confession" on Wataniya TV today.

Neither report has been verified at present.

Foreigners urged to leave Libya amid rising violence
Egypt and several western states on Sunday urged their citizens to leave Libya amid spiralling violence after two weeks of fighting in the capital Tripoli left 97 people dead.
Thank goodness for 'smart diplomacy': imagine how bad it would be if Champ, Hildebeast, ValJar and Jahwn were stupid...
As Walter Russell Mead points out here, "smart diplomacy" has become a punchline.
Washington evacuated its embassy staff on Saturday, with Secretary of State John Kerry warning the mission had faced a "real risk" from fierce fighting between armed groups for control of Tripoli's international airport.

Another 38 people, mostly soldiers, were killed in 24 hours of fighting between the army and Islamists in the eastern city of Benghazi, military and medical officials said on Sunday, a further sign of the chaos plaguing the North African nation.

The Tripoli clashes, the most violent since the overthrow of Muammer Gaddhafi in 2011, started with an assault on the airport by a coalition of groups, which has since been backed by fighters from third city Misrata. The attackers are battling to flush out fellow former rebels from the hill town of Zintan, southwest of Tripoli, who have controlled the airport for the past three years.

The health ministry said on Sunday the violence had killed 97 people, a toll based on casualty reports from eight public hospitals in the city and its suburbs. More than 400 people were wounded.

Fighting was still raging, with explosions heard from early morning as militiamen battled around the airport.

Egypt's foreign ministry said a rocket hit a house in Tripoli on Saturday, killing 23 people, including several Egyptians.

"There are 23 people dead after a Grad rocket fell on a house in Tripoli. Some of them are Egyptians, but we don't know how many," ministry spokesman Badr Abdelatty told AFP.

Cairo called on "all Egyptian nationals in Tripoli and Benghazi to immediately leave and save themselves from this chaotic internal fighting".

The foreign ministry said they should seek "safer areas in Libya or head to the Libya-Tunisia border".

There were an estimated 1.5 million Egyptians in Libya before Gaddhafi's ouster. About two-thirds left during the war but many returned in 2012.

Also on Sunday, a British embassy convoy was fired on in a suspected attempted carjacking in western Tripoli. There were no casualties, a spokesman for London's mission in Libya said.

"Shots were fired at our vehicles but they managed to drive on and leave the area," Bob Phillipson said.

The violence prompted Britain, France, Germany and the Netherlands to join Washington in urging their citizens to leave as soon as possible, after the US pulled out its diplomatic staff under air cover on Saturday. Belgium, Malta, Spain and Turkey previously urged their nationals to leave.

Libya's health ministry warned that foreigners leaving could cause a shortage of health workers, particularly since the Philippines ordered the departure of its citizens, 3,000 of whom were doctors and nurses in Libya, Tripoli said.
But they still don't quite get that "cause and effect" thing, do they...
In second city Benghazi, another 38 people, mostly soldiers, were killed in 24 hours of intense clashes between the army and Islamists.

A military source said the fighting erupted on Saturday when Islamist groups launched an assault on the headquarters of a special forces unit near the city centre, causing casualties among forces defending their barracks.

Benghazi's main hospital said the bodies of 28 soldiers had been taken there in the past 24 hours, along with 50 wounded, while Al Marj hospital, 100 kilometres to the east, spoke of two soldiers dead and 10 wounded.

Overnight, special forces commander Wanis Abu Khamada told Al-Ahrar television his troops could still "repel any attack on state institutions".

Speculation over what caused the crash has focused on adverse climatic conditions but French and Algerian authorities have not discounted terrorism either.

"We believe that the plane crashed for reasons related to weather, although we cannot rule out any theory for the present time," French Interior Minister Bernard Kaznov said on Friday.

The French soldiers, including three high ranking intelligence experts, were serving in Africa and Mali, the report said.

French President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
said Saturday he wants the remains of all passengers on the Air Algerie plane to be brought to La Belle France and the site of the catastrophe marked with a memorial to the 118 who died.

UN peacekeepers in Mali found the second black box of the Air Algerie plane at the remote disaster site in the north, and the French president said the data and voice recorders must be analyzed as quickly as possible to determine the cause of the crash early Thursday.

Nearly half of the victims — 54 — were French, and Hollande has taken a leading role in the aftermath, stressing the need to determine the cause of the crash. French authorities have also said extreme bad weather was the probable cause but weren't ruling out anything, even terrorism. The plane went down in a restive area of Mali, where Lions of Islam roam.

"I don't want to rule out any hypothesis," Hollande said again Saturday.

The Air Algerie jet was flying from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, to Algiers, Algeria, when it went down in the desolate part of Mali near the border with Burkina Faso. The pilot had advised he must change routes due to a storm and then contact with the Niger control tower was lost.

members, the country's state broadcaster Crtv reported yesterday.

The defendants, who were locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
in March after the discovery of a weapons cache, admitted to being part of the Nigerian Lion of Islam group at a "public hearing" in the northern town of Maroua, said the report.

They had been charged with the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and of plotting an insurrection.

"Each of the Boko Haram members (was) sentenced to between 10 and 20 years" in prison, said the report, adding that the sentences cannot be appealed.

The trial was reportedly the first of its kind in Cameroon where a large number of members of the radical group have been arrested in the north over the past weeks following attacks on cop shoppes, as well as kidnappings and killings.

The armed movement is seeking to install an Lion of Islam Islamic state in Nigeria. It started its bloody insurgency in 2009.

More than 3,000 Nigerians fleeing Boko Haram attacks have taken refuge in the Cameroon town of Fotokol, according to a municipal official.

"We are worried about infiltrations" by the Islamists among the refugees, a police officer in the town said.

has come under acute shortage of foreign aid, on account of the same bully boys' operations.

Cameroon is one of the countries that share borders with Nigeria in its Northern axis and it has been severally reported that the Boko Haram murderous Moslems alternate their movements and attacks between both countries.

Investigations conducted by Sunday Tribune indicated that a part of Northern Cameroon has no fewer than three million victims who are losing most of their foreign aids and economic development projects.

It was also gathered that foreign aids workers in Northern Cameroon are leaving the country in droves, in some instances, taking along those they are caring for.

A website anchored by security experts and devoted to global security and military issues, Strategy Page, also painted the scenario of what the Boko Haram challenge has cost Northern Cameroon.

"Just across the border, the six million people of Northern Cameroon are also suffering an economic and foreign aid disaster because of Boko Haram. The Islamic murderous Moslems operate in areas where three million people are losing most of their foreign aid and economic development projects.

"Aid workers, both locals and foreigners, are fleeing the area along with a lot of the people they are serving," it noted.

vice prime minister was kidnapped, and Boko Haram gunnies in the northern town of Kolofata killed at least three people in an attack on Sunday, Cameroon officials said according to a Rooters report.

A local religious leader, or Lamido, named Seini Boukar Lamine, who is also the town's mayor, was kidnapped as well, in a separate attack on his home.

Boko Haram, the Nigerian Islamist holy warrior group, has stepped-up cross border attacks into Cameroon in recent weeks, as Cameroon has deployed troops into the region, joining international efforts to combat the holy warriors.

"I can confirm that the home of Vice Prime Minister Amadou Ali in Kolofata came under a savage attack from Boko Haram holy warriors," Issa Tchiroma told Rooters by telephone.

"They, unfortunately, took away his wife. They also attacked the Lamido's residence, and he was also kidnapped," he said. At least three people were killed in that attack.

A Cameroonian military commander in the region told Rooters that the vice prime minister, who was at home to celebrate the Moslem feast of Ramadan with his family, was taken to a neighboring town by security officials.

Policewoman, volunteer killed in attack on tented post
[DAWN] KARACHI: A woman police constable and a volunteer associated with the Police Qaumi Razakar were rubbed out in an attack on a police complaint cell in Liaquatabad on Saturday, officials said.

They added that gunnies on a cycle of violence fired shots at the police tented post set up along the main road facing Firdous Shopping Centre in line with security arrangements devised by the city police authorities. The firing left 32-year-old assistant sub-inspector of Police Qaumi Razakar dead on the spot and Constable Kiran Umar badly maimed.

"The policewoman was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where she died early in the morning," said the area's sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), DSP Wajahat Hussain. "She was posted at the Liaquatabad Women Police Station and deployed at the police complaint cell, which has been set up in a roadside tent for more than a week. She was a resident of Liaquatabad No 5 and mother of two."

He said the police had found spent casings of .22mm bullets at the scene of the crime. It was quite strange, he said, as the history of coppers's killings suggested that the attackers mostly used 9mm and 30-bore pistols to execute the job.

"The casings have been sent to the forensic laboratory for a detailed examination. The Liaquatabad police have registered an FIR (124/2014) under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistain Penal Code and under Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act against unknown suspects," added the area SDPO.

Two 'militants' rubbed out

Two suspected murderous Moslems were killed in an exchange of gunfire with police and Rangers in Sohrab Goth in the evening, officials said.

They added that the joint raid of the law enforcement agencies triggered heavy firing between the two sides and finally it left two of the murderous Moslems dead.

"The police along with Rangers spotted a hideout near the Indus Ground in Sohrab Goth," said area SDPO Qamar Ahmed. "As the police and Rangers were cordoning off the area, they came under heavy gunfire from the murderous Moslems as they attempted to escape. However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
we returned fire and killed two of them."

When questioned, he said the police suspected that one of the murderous Moslems bravely ran away despite the presence of heavy contingent of police and Rangers.

"The murderous Moslems are not yet identified but we have reason and findings of initial investigations to believe that they were associated with a banned bully boy outfit. The bodies have been shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities," added DSP Ahmed.

Car-tracker firm man killed

An employee of a car tracking company was killed and a colleague of his was maimed in the firing allegedly by car lifters in the Manghopir area while they were trying to recover a vehicle snatched a few days back, police said.

They said a few employees of the company spotted a Hi-roof (CU-7273), which had been snatched in the Gulberg area a few days back, in the Sultanabad area of Manghopir. They said the tracker company's employees were waiting for the vehicle to emerge on the main road so they could intercept it.

"However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
when the vehicle came on the main road and the company's vehicle tried to intercept it, the carjackers fired shots and maimed the two employees — Waheeduddin and Muhammad Nasir. Later 45-year-old Waheed died in the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital," said Sub-Inspector Aslam Shah at the Manghopir cop shoppe.

Sectarian targeted killings grip Rawalpindi, Islamabad
[DAWN] On January 3, 2014, Shakeel Muavia, a resident of Golra, was extremely happy - just a day earlier his brother, Mufti Muneer Muavia, was released from jail.

In the morning, the newly released brother, Mufti Muneer left home to visit his father-in-law Maulana Abdul Hameed Sabri in Sector I-8.

Shakeel spent the day preparing dinner but in the afternoon, he got a call from his brother's father-in-law who asked him over.

"On my way to I-8, I passed a private hospital in H-8, where there was an unusual traffic jam.

"There were many police officials who were checking cycle of violence riders," he said.

"When I reached I-8, I found out that some motorbike riders had shot my brother. His companion, Asad Mehmood Abbasi, sitting by his side in the car was also killed.

"My brother's widow, 11-year-old daughter and three sons now live in Golra.

"I have been taking care of the entire family though we get some help from Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
(ASWJ)," he added. He claims the police are not much help.

"Intelligence agencies know who are behind the liquidations but they are not ready to take action against them. I think that such assassination cannot be carried out without the involvement and information of intelligence agencies," he said Mufti Muneer is not the only member of ASWJ who has been assassinated in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi in recent months.

As many as 13 members of the organization have been killed during the last 10 months.

All of them were shot and killed.

Zarb-i-Azb: Army claims 70% of Mirali cleared
[DAWN] After clearance of Miranshah
... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas...
, Boya and Degan areas from terrorists, Pak military on Sunday claimed that 70 per cent of Mirali town along with its neighbouring villages — the second largest stronghold of Death Eaters — has been cleared by the security forces.

"Operation Zarb-e-Azb
..the Pak offensive against Qaeda in Pakistain and the Pak Taliban in North Wazoo. The name refers to the sword of the Prophet (PTUI!)...
continues to achieve its objectives and is progressing well in North Wazoo," a front man for Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.

This information, however, could not be independently verified.

Two huge ammunition factories with ammunition stock were recovered as house to house search continues in the area, said the front man.

He said that 30 barrels filled with explosives and chemicals used for making IEDs were also recovered from two large underground tunnels during clearance of Mirali.

"A massive IED, weighing 5,000 kilos was recovered from Boya, and was diffused by the expert Counter IED team of Army Engineers. Later when detonated, it shook the entire agency and the kaboom was heard as far as settled area," said the ISPR front man.

He claimed that a total of 570 holy warriors have been killed since the start of Zarb-e-Azb operation. 98 terrorist hideouts and 30 IED factories, three ammunition making factories and a number of jacket wallah training centres were destroyed during Operation.

Huge cache of arms, communication equipment, propaganda literature have also been recovered, said the statement, adding that 34 security forces personnel have embraced shahadat (martyrdom) during the operation in North Waziristan Agency alone.

UN agencies agree to provide basic facilities to IDPs

Nearly a million people have fled the offensive in North Waziristan, which is aimed at wiping out longstanding hard boy strongholds in the area, which borders Afghanistan.

Tens of thousands of families have left for the town of Bannu, close to North Waziristan, while hundreds more have moved further afield to the towns of Lakki Marwat, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan

Swat shopkeepers warned by Taleban
A cloth merchant in Madayan Bazaar of the Swat Valley has received leaflets purported to be from the Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) warning him to shut down his shop and leave the area immediately. The leaflet also warned local women not to visit the markets and bazaars.

According to local sources, the letter on a TTP letterhead was signed 'Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan chief Mullah Fazlullah'. It was put up at the shop door in the night by unknown persons. The businessman was told to 'get ready for death' if he failed to heed the warning.

Locals in Swat say they have received threatening letters and leaflets, reportedly from the TTP, warning them to pay money or be prepared for death.
The TTP: it's both a terrorist organization AND a racketeering gang!

#1  Returning to the 'burg for the first time since ..... ???? .... hmmm, could be 2006, when I commented as "Verlaine in Iraq".

Anyway .... I've been in slack-jawed, usually speechless amazement at the course of events since last I was here, and esp. of course since late 2008. But I'm wondering if right here (with this UNSC nonsense) we have a candidate for a real, bona fide dust up with Iz'rl.

Of course I don't know the geography and details intimately, but if Iz'rl can continue their tunnel work (and intel work, which is never mentioned but of course is usually one of the big pay-offs for actual ground operations and engagement) during "humanitarian ceasefires", then perhaps a sublime kabuki is all we have (UN pretends to be upset, US is irrelevant and mistrusted by all parties and ignored, Sauds/Egyptians/Gulfies ex Qatar are happy Hamas continues to get pulverized, Turkey puts on a sideline tantrum, Jordan continues to worry more about what's to their east than to their west).

Just can't believe Bibi will allow, for the umpteenth time (historically, not during his terms), outside powers to impose future costs and suffering on Israelis and Palestinians by imposing "solutions" that interrupt achievement of real solutions.

also the coordination of UAVs, jets, copters, naval platforms, special forces, ground forces and undercover assests was probably improved a bit

Stuff and nonsense, all of you! We are all still here, and as many like us as there ever were. Yes, there's a superficial layer of users overlaying the bedrock that is the sum of the nation's sturdy yeomanry, and good Lord! are they noisy about it. But this, too, shall pass.

This is the Long War, remember? That means it's going to take more than a few years, and there will be setbacks, and perfidies, Perhaps for a while you won't be able to serve as you did before, the way you love. That happens to all of us, sooner or later. In the meantime, find a different way to serve. Join a group checking the voter rolls for duplicate and imaginary Americans. Register people to vote, and help them get to the polls. Check all your former residences to make sure you aren't still registered in any of them, and if you are, get yourself taken off the rolls, so that your vote can't be used. On voting day, get there early and bloody well vote! don't withhold your vote because the candidate of your party is imperfect, vote against his/her opponent, to keep someone worse out of office.

Find a new way to apply your skills, even if you don't get paid for it. Teach shooting classes, comment here, post key articles that will increase our understanding of what's going on, get into politics... There are infinite possibilities, all you have to do is look around and find one to make use of.

For the love of all that's holy, I was a little suburban housewife when I found this place, formerly the terror of my PTA. Formerly because I'd gotten sick, it turned into severe chronic fatigue, and by the time I got here I was sleeping 16 hours a day and pretty useless the rest of the time. You allowed me to be useful here, by answering my questions. I wrote something once, just a response to something someone wrote, and 49 Pan printed it out and posted it over his SF unit's coffeepot in the break room, to inspire them. Hamas accepts 24-hour Gaza humanitarian truce
[Dhaka Tribune] Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, Islamist bully boyz have agreed to a 24-hour humanitarian truce
...The purposes of a truce are twofold: 1.) bring up more arms, ammunition, and reinforcements; and 2.) to get the enemy to relax his vigilance. A truce is not the same thing as a ceasefire, and a ceasefire doesn't mean you have to stop shooting...
in their conflict with Israel in the Gazoo Strip, a front man for the group said yesterday, hours after fighting between the sides resumed.

"It has been agreed among resistance factions to endorse a 24-hour humanitarian calm," Hamas front man Sami Abu Zuhri
...a senior spokesman for Hamas. Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gaza. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...
told Rooters, saying the calm should start at 2.00 p.m. (1100 GMT).

An Israeli official said the truce was being reviewed.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
as 2.00 p.m. came and went, the sound of heavy Israeli shelling could be heard within Gazoo and sirens sounded in Israeli communities near the border area, suggesting Paleostinian bully boyz had fired missiles at them.

Israel had called off its own 24-hour truce earlier in the day after Hamas launched rockets into southern and central Israel, and Paleostinian medics said at least 10 people had died in the wave of subsequent strikes that swept Gazoo.

Some 1,060 Paleostinians, mainly civilians and including many children, have been killed in the 20-day conflict. Israel says 43 of its soldiers have died, along with three civilians killed by rocket and mortar fire out of the Mediterranean enclave.

Israel and the Hamas Islamists who control Gazoo had agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire on Saturday to allow Paleostinians to stock up on supplies and retrieve bodies from under the rubble.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet decided to extend the quiet until midnight on Sunday, on condition that its forces could continue to track down and destroy myrmidon tunnels that criss-cross the Gazoo border.

After initially rejecting the extension, Hamas front man Abu Zuhri said Hamas had accepted a UN truce request on Sunday in light of the upcoming Mohammedan holiday of Eid al-Fitr, which is expected to start in the next couple of days.

Netanyahu was due to convene his cabinet later on Sunday to decide how to move forward, and at least one senior minister said Israel must step up its offensive.

"After what we saw this morning, it is clear we need to resume fighting with even greater force," Communications Minister Gilad Erdan told Army Radio.

#2  I don't think the word "truce" means the same thing to Hamass and the rest of the world.

Philippine military denies MILF ceasefire violation accusation
A top official said Philippine troops did not violate a ceasefire with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) as the recent operations in two Maguindanao towns were meant as a preemptive move against possible attacks from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Brig. Gen. Carlito Galvez said the issue has been clarified with the MILF. He said, "It was a show of force against the BIFF. We have talked to the MILF and we said it was not intended for them."

Galvez issued the statement after the MILF accused troops of violating the ceasefire in parts of Mindanao by making "uncoordinated movements" in two Maguindanao towns, Datu Unsay and Datu Saudi.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
ISIL beheads 50 Syrian soldiers, puts heads on poles
[Iran Press TV] Newly-released video footage shows the ISIL Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed...
turbans summarily executing at least 50 Syrian government soldiers in the troubled northern Syria.

The decapitated heads of several soldiers are shown mounted on poles on top of a fence at an army base in the northern province of Raqqa, Daily Mail reported.

Experts say the footage circulating online appears genuine and have been corroborated by other reports.

This comes as the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the troops were seized after ISIL turbans took over a base in the troubled region.

"Some of the executed troops had their heads chopped off, and their bodies and severed heads put on display in Raqqa city," said the Britannia-based group's director, Rami Abdel Rahman.
Al-Qaeda-linked bad boy groups fighting against the Syrian government have committed numerous mass executions during the ongoing conflict.

Since the outbreak of the Syria crisis in March 2011, several video clips have been released showing the grisly crimes perpetrated by the Takfiri turbans against innocent civilians in the crisis-torn country.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated groups such as the ISIL have been behind many of the deadly kabooms targeting both civilians and government institutions across Syria over the past three years.

According to some sources, more than 160,000 people have been so far been killed and millions of others displaced due to the violence fueled by the turbans in the Arab country.

#1  These are sick people.

I wonder which country is supporting/funding them?

#2  The congressional outcry to support the 'Syrian Rebel Moderates' appears somewhat muted of late. Could it be that we've once again been supporting the wrong fok'n side ?

[obviously rhetorical]

#4  g(r)om, what are these obvious exceptions? Are there any other than the Jewish aversion to being shot at? That's the only exception of which I'm aware.

#7  with respect to who is supporting ISIL, a major source is Qatar who also supports Hamas and the Al Nusra front (ISIL and al Nasra are at war with each other so this is somewhat ironic)

there are probably many other individuals throughout the moslem world who have transferred funds voluntarily to ISIL and of course many people have had property confiscated or had funds extorted

Car bomb kills 7 in Homs
Syrian state-run media says a car bomb has exploded in the central city of Homs, killing at least seven people, the Associated Press reported. State news agency SANA said the vehicle exploded Sunday in the Arman neighborhood, home to mostly minority Christians and Alawites, the sect of the President Bashar Assad. It says two rockets also were fired at the site after the bombing.

The neighborhood has been repeatedly hit by car bombs. The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported the bombing and death toll.
