Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
during a series of operations coordinated by Afghan forces in the past 24 hours.

In a statement released by the MoIA, "the Afghan National Police (ANP), Afghan National Army (ANA) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS), conducted several anti-terrorism joint operations in Smangan, Faryab, Zabul, Pashtun-infested Logar and Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
provinces."

The statement said the operations were launched in the provinces to clear the bad boys.

The MoIA did not provide details about Afghan forces' casualties during the raids. And self-identified Taliban spokespeople have not yet commented on the operations.

The statement read: "During these operations, ANP discovered and confiscated light and heavy rounds of ammunition and IEDs in Kunar, Baghlan, Faryab, Kandahar, Wardak, Khost and Paktika."

Former Somali warlord refuses to lay down arms
KISMAYO -- Former warlord Col. Barre Adan Shire (Barre Hiiraale) has refused to lay down his arms in the fight against Jubaland administration, Garowe Online reports.

As a result of mediation efforts by clan elders who come from the same clan as Col. Barre Hiiraale, former warlord and once Federal Government of Somalia's widely speculated proxy said he is not ready to disarm his militia in Goob Weyn town which lies a few kilometers from Lower Jubba regional capital of Kismayo.

"Among the points of the discussion were Barre Hiiraale to take part in Jubaland peace process, to hand over his arms and militia to African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and to renounce armed violence," independent sources in the southern port city of Kismayo tell GO.

However, Col. Barre Hiraale rebuffed to abide by a key point that might lead to comprehensive agreement between the two sides and refused to lay down arms. The mediators Sunday returned to Kismayo to deliver the outcome of their talks with Col. Barre.

Federal Government of Somalia's Prime Minister Abdiweli Shiekh Ahmed Mohamed who had been on visit to Kismayo for seven days dispatched the clan elders mainly drawn from his clan to Goob Weyn to hold discussions on the consolidation of Jubaland Peace Process with Col. Barre Hiiraale.

Former warlord's militia engaged in a deadly battle with local forces loyal to the President of Jubaland administration Shiekh Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) in Kismayo and subsequently fled to unknown vicinities in the outskirts of Kismayo following the seizure of Kismayo by Jubaland forces in June 2013.

Meanwhile in Kismayo's Shaqalaha neighborhood, unidentified assailants on Monday morning gunned down a prominent clan elder Amir Abdirahman Abdi Dhuh, eyewitnesses reported. The attackers escaped from the spot.

Sirte clashes turn deadly
[MAGHAREBIA] Armed festivities broke out Sunday (April 20th) in Sirte, leaving one Libyan security officer dead and seven injured.

The victims were members of the central region shield forces, who were manning a security checkpoint. They were attacked by unknown groups.

"Certain people want to sow sedition in this country," said Abdelfattah al-Siwi, 35, the head of Sirte local council.

"They are still not known to the security agencies in town," the council chief told Magharebia.

Moussa al-Swisi, commander of Libya Revolutionary Operations Room (LROR) in Sirte, said, "There are malicious people who want to ruin and corrupt the revolution that took place in Libya, but we're on the lookout for them. We're working on a plan to secure Sirte against outlaws and corruptors."

Anti-Brotherhood bellydancer arrested over unlicensed satellite TV
[Egypt Independent] Prosecutors in Dokki, Cairo ordered the arrest on early Monday of bellydancer Sama al-Masry for four days pending investigation over charges of running an unlicensed satellite channel.

Police stormed Feloul channel in Dokki on Sunday, arresting al-Masry and leaving five other workers at the channel.

Prosecutors also ordered the confiscation of the broadcast devices.

A supporter of former defense minister and presidential hopeful Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Masry had launched her channel aimed at challenging the supporters of deposed president Mohammed Morsy and Islamist groups through dancing clips accompanied with critical lyrics.

Feloul is Arabic for the term used since the 2011 revolution to refer to remnants of the regime of former president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...

She has recently made fun of withdrawn presidency candidate Mortada Mansour who vented anger at the dancer and threatened to close the channel during a TV interview.

In a phone call with al-Hayat channel late Sunday, Masry claimed the people who invaded the channel were affiliated with Mansour, and said they told her the raid came after a complaint filed by Mansour at the prosecution.

She vowed to continue her criticism of Mansour and said the channel would not be closed.

Arabia
Death toll from U.S. drone strikes rises to 55 in Yemen
[Xinhua] The corpse count of multiple U.S. drone strikes launched on Sunday against training camps of al- Qaeda turbans in Yemen's southern provinces of Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
and Shabwa has risen to 55, the Yemeni Interior Ministry said on Monday.

Three local leaders were among the 55 dead turbans, the ministry said in a brief statement on its website.

It said that its security services are working to identify the nationalities of imported muscle who were killed among al-Qaeda turbans in the Arclight airstrikes.

The ministry described the air strikes as the strongest assault launched against the turbans since 2012, when the army retook several cities of Abyan after months-long deadly battles with al- Qaeda gunnies.

In a reaction to the air raids, the turbans assassinated Monday three senior intelligence officials in two separated attacks in central Sanaa, a day after four U.S. drone strikes killed the 55 suspected turbans.

Security officials said the terrorist attacks were an angry reaction to the Sunday air raids on the turban hideouts in Abyan and Shabwa.

#1  Seems like a good way to take care of a growing terrorist problem in Yemen. We don't need another Afghanistan and 911. However, I do not want to see our government decide that the ranchers in Nevada are terrorists (as per Harry Reid's latest blitherings) and turn the drones loose on them.
Posted by: JohnQC || 04/22/2014 7:52 Comments || Top||

#2  Drones and Hellfire Missiles are an effective tool. But as we have seen in PAK and AFG, they simply do not close the deal. It takes brave infantrymen, ruthlessly tracking the terrorists down, killing them, burning and destroying their sanctuaries.

We're not talking some newly found military factum or a revelation of great strategic surprise. One cannot selectively weed a garden and hope for the best. People must be dealt with and removed from the land. And as in the Ukraine, [and California], new and more malleable subjects moved in to replace them.

Armed drones will not be used against Cliven Bundy. Lawfare accomplished the moving off of Bundy's 52 fellow ranchers. Lawfare will likely be used to move Bundy.

Nahid Hossain, superintendent of NATOre police, said Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a procession in Harishpur bypass area around 8:30am and tried to enter the district town.

Police fired bullets and teargas shells to bring the situation under control.

Four Jamaat-Shibir men were picked up from the spot, Nahid said.

The injured coppers took first aid.

'Militants' kidnap three relatives of slain ANP leader
[DAWN] PESHAWAR: Suspected bully boyz kidnapped three relatives of a slain leader of Awami National Party (ANP) from Mashokhel, a suburban area of provincial metropolis, early on Sunday, sources said.

Mian Mushtaq Ahmed, the ANP leader, was rubbed out along with his driver and a party worker on January 12 when he was going to Hayatabad from his native village Mashokhel.

Sources said that three cousins of the slain ANP leader were asleep in their hujra when a group of bully boyz armed with sophisticated weapons attacked them. All the three persons identified as Mian Shabeer, Mian Fahad and Mian Shakeel were kidnapped and the hujra was blown up with explosives and hand grenades, they added.

An official of Badhber cop shoppe, when contacted, said that incident took place at about 2am. He said that actual number of the attackers could not be ascertained so far. Certainly that they had already besieged the hujra and kidnapped the people without facing any resistance, he added.

Following the kabooms, the official said, the residents of the area and police reached the spot but the attackers had already escaped.

He said that the attackers seemed to have crossed into Khyber Agency as Lashkar-e-Islam, a banned krazed killer outfit, was active in there.

The official said that no one had so far grabbed credit for kidnapping the three persons. He said that a case was registered against unidentified terrorists.

Policemen among five killed in militant attack near Peshawar
[DAWN] Five people including four coppers, among them an ASI, were killed as unidentified faceless myrmidons attacked a police convoy on Kohat Road near Zangali Checkpost wounding four coppers also some 20 kilometers from Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. on Monday.

The Station House Officer (SHO) of Badbher cop shoppe, Garanullah Khan told Dawn.com that the faceless myrmidons attacked two coppers near Zangli checkpost injuring them seriously.

Syria army set to break militant siege on Aleppo
[Iran Press TV] The Syrian army has started an operation to break foreign-backed Takfiri
...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed...
turbans' siege on the northern city of Aleppo.

According to reports on Monday, the army regained control over an area extending from what used to be Syria's economic capital to the town of Khanasir in the Aleppo province.

A convoy of trucks carrying food supplies and fuel arrived in the city through the road crossing Khanasir.

Foreign-sponsored turbans attacked the road several times in the past to hamper the aid efforts. They, however, were repelled by government forces.

Efforts aimed at breaking the siege of Aleppo came as the army has made major gains across the country.

On Sunday, the Syrian forces also foiled an infiltration attempt by the turbans in al-Lairamon and al-Zahraa areas in Aleppo.

On April 15, Syrian forces drove out turbans from the towns of Assal al-Ward, Housh Arab and Jab'adin, one day after government forces retook full control of the towns of Ma'loula and al-Sarkha.

Last week, Syrian troops recaptured eastern heights overlooking Rankous plain, cutting off the turbans' supply routes between the area and the Lebanese side of the border.
