Mombasa police arrest 100+ suspects following Likoni attack
Kenya police said Monday they are interrogating over 100 suspects following Sunday’s gun attack on a church in the coastal city of Mombasa which left at least six people dead and some 15 others injured. Combined team of security officers led by paramilitary police officers mounted a massive crackdown late Sunday and arrested the suspects with several crude weapons.

“We are boiling roasting poaching grilling the suspects to establish if they are directly linked to the attack before they are arraigned in court,” Likoni divisional police commander Robert Mureithi said.

According to Khadija Shikely, Mombasa County Director of Health, the death in the attack has risen to six after two survivors suffering serious chest injuries succumbed to injuries at Coast General Hospital and scores are still admitted with bullet wounds. A five-year old boy with bullet lodged in his head is among the casualties, who was still admitted at the Coast General Hospital.

Mureithi said they have closed the barn door intensified security in the area, with a man hunt launched for the attackers who fled after opening fire at worshippers at the Joy Jesus church.

“We will definitely get them, we are working very closely with residents here,” he added.

According to anti terrorism police officers, Likoni is among active terror cells where youths are recruited to join the ‘al Shabaab’ terror group. Late last year the youths had attempted to blow up British van just a few meters from the church using a Russian made hand grenade but it failed to detonate.
Buy cheap, get cheap...
Reports within security circles suggest that most of ‘al-Shabaab’ returnees are residing within Majengo Mapya area in Likoni, Kisauni and Majengo area near the Masjid Musa Mosque, allegedly a hot bed of ‘al Shabaab’ funding and training.

Boko Haram claims Nigerian barracks attack
[GOOGLE] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
has grabbed credit for an attack on a key military barracks in Nigeria, in a new video obtained on Monday by AFP that warns of further bloodshed, including against civilians.

"We carried out the attacks in Maiduguri (on March 14)," said a man dressed in white, wearing black headgear and carrying an assault rifle, claiming to be the group's leader, Abubakar Shekau.

The man appeared younger, thinner and with different mannerisms from older videos, which could prompt fresh questions about whether the hard boy leader, who had previously been reported killed, is still alive.

The United States has declared Shekau a global terrorist and put a $7 million (5.1-million-euro) bounty on his head. Nigeria has separately offered 50 million naira ($300,000) for information leading to his capture or death.

He was reported to have been killed in a shootout in northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
between July 25 and August 3 last year, although a man resembling him has featured in a number of videos since then.

Nigeria's military has yet to confirm officially whether Shekau is still alive and defence front man Chris Olukolade has said that whoever was making the claims in the videos was immaterial.

"That's not the issue in this matter. They're all terrorists," he told AFP in a March 14 interview.

In the latest video, which was obtained via the same channels as previous statements, the man claiming to be Shekau speaks for 37 minutes in the local Hausa and Kanuri languages, as well as Arabic.

Footage then follows showing what appear to be heavily armed Boko Haram fighters arriving in pick-up trucks and firing on the Giwa barracks in Maiduguri with assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades.

- Claims of ill-treatment -

Hundreds of suspected Boko Haram fighters have been held at the barracks in the capital of northeastern Borno state in conditions that have been strongly criticised by international rights groups.

The video shows hundreds of people, most of them young men in civilian clothes but also some women, apparently running away from the compound.

Boko Haram claimed in the video that they freed about 2,000 of their brothers in arms, some of whom recounted at length their experience at the facility, alleging torture by the military.

"We launched the Maiduguri attacks and killed infidels in Giwa barracks," said the man who insists several times that he is Shekau, adding a warning about members of the public who have joined civilian vigilante groups against them.

"There are only two groups of people in the world. There are either those with us or those on the other side, which I'll kill once I spot them. This is my only focus now," he said.

"This is Shekau speaking... By Allah, I will slaughter you. I'm not happy if I don't slit your throats. I'll slaughter you, I'll slaughter you, I'll slaughter you."

The video repeats claims made in a previous video obtained on February 19 about Boko Haram members killing a prominent Mohammedan holy man who had criticised the group and threatening to attack oil wells in southern Nigeria.

"We are not fighting the north, we are fighting the world. And you will see us fighting the world. This is our job," he added.

29 killed as Boko Haram bombs market in Borno

, have again bombed a market in Nguro-Soye, near Bama, Borno State, killing no fewer than 29 persons.

Rooters reported on Sunday that the attack on the market was said to have been carried out on Saturday night.

"I travelled to Bama to buy bags of beans. Suddenly, there was a deafening bang at the middle of the market. It was in the late afternoon and commercial activities were at their peak," said Shuaibu Abdulahi, a trader at the market. He estimated the corpse count to be as high as 29.

Abba Tahir, a bus driver who was said to be offloading passengers at the market during the incident, said he counted 20 bodies.

"People were helping in evacuating the corpses after the confusion had died down. Some people who were maimed were taken to the general hospital," Tahir added.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attack yet as of the time of this report.

Borno State Police Commissioner,, Mr. Lawal Tanko, who confirmed the incident, was quoted as saying, "An kaboom in the market in Nguro-Soye killed 17 people."

Bama is a border town and the headquarter of the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. It is about 135 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital.

The town is not new to attacks by the Boko Haram myrmidons. The 202 Army Battalion Barracks located in the town was hit by Boko Haram in December 2013.

Several women and kiddies, mostly wives and wards of soldiers, who battled the snuffies for over seven hours, were killed in the attack launched at about 3 am.

On February 19 this year, the snuffies also attacked Bama.Confirming the February attack, Governor Kashim Shettima had said the attackers "inflicted a lot of damage on the town." A Borno State senator, Ahmed Zanna, had then told the BBC that the attack on Bama lasted for five hours.

Bloodbath in Benue as Fulani herdsmen, Tiv clash claims 50 lives
[SUNNEWSONLINE] Fresh hostilities between Fulani herdsmen and Tiv youths claimed 50 lives at Gbajimba, the Guma Local Government Area headquarters in Benue State, yesterday, even as a youth body, Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLC), claimed that about 3,300 youths may have been killed by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
in the North.

Sources said that the crisis which is regarded as the bloodiest so far, has left several casualties on both sides with heavy shootout still raging in the besieged town at press time. Women and children were still fleeing to nearby villages and Makurdi, the state capital, for safety.

Eyewitnesses said that the suspected Fulani invaders who stormed Gbajimba early Sunday morning were repelled by armed Tiv youths who engaged them in a bloody fight, a development that made them to regroup and relaunch a stronger attack in the afternoon.

"They came in large numbers very early this morning from Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State and made an attempt to seize the town and the local government secretariat but they were confronted by our youths who resisted them, forcing them to flee.

"Just this afternoon at about 1pm, they staged a more coordinated attack on the town, this time, they came in their hundreds, shooting, burning down houses, huts and killing anything in sight.

"The coppers in Gbajimba are helpless because we have less than 50 officers and men on ground in the station and this attack has completely overwhelmed them.

"As I speak to you, serious fighting is still going on in Gbajimba, about 55 persons may have been killed on both sides because corpses litter the invaded communities. Many of our people are also missing at this moment.

"But from the look of things, if security personnel do not quickly mobilize into the town, the invaders may succeed in completely taking over the ancient town after sacking close to 100 villages in the local government area in the last few weeks. Our fear is that if Gbajimba is allowed to fall into the hands of these marauders, it could be used as a launch pad to attack Makurdi which is just a few minutes drive from the ancient town," sources said.

When contacted, the police front man, Daniel Ezeala a superintendent, said he was yet to be briefed on the development adding that, "we are still monitoring and we will brief you as soon as possible."

Meanwhile,
...back at the wrecked scow, a single surviver held tightly to the smashed prow...
a non-political organization, Northern Youth Leaders Forum (NYLF), has attributed the high rate of insurgency in the North, particularly in the North-East to lack of good governance, non-challant attitude of stakeholders, low level of education in the region to squarely address the first and subsequent insurgencies.

Boko Haram: Hundreds reportedly killed as Military raids Sambisa in Borno
[DAILYPOST.NG] Barely 24 hours after a report that, over 30 people were killed in Ngurosaye village market of Bama local government, another report reaching DailyPost from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital as disclosed by travellers along Maiduguri, Adamawa; enroute Bama axis revealed that 6 trucks conveying corpses suspected to be those of the Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters were sighted coming out of the dreaded Sambisa forest area.

The travellers said they saw the corpses when they were stopped for usual checks by soldiers near Bama town on Monday.

A traveller, Magi Hassan, a student of Federal University of Technology, Yola in Adamawa state who left Maiduguri alongside friends to Adamawa state said, the soldiers were saying that the reign of Boko Haram has come to a close.

She said the soldiers, who seemed to be happy were also telling passengers that, very soon, nobody would stop them for checks or plant IEDs on the high way with the intention of killing innocent people.

According to her, "One of the soldiers, while giving information to some of his colleagues simply said, 'We got the bastards,'. We counted six trucks but we don't know the number of corpses because the soldiers were only talking with their colleagues while some of them were asking for our phone numbers." She said.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
residents of Borno state have expressed great worries over the shutting down of mobile communication in the state following the attack on Sambisa, on Sunday by the military.

Residents said, the hard boyz may not be using the ordinary GSM but phones like Thuraya, which is more expensive and not common to most local resident.

"If the turbans use GSM or CDMA phones, won't a smart security organization take immediate advantage and track them?

Let's take a look at what can be achieved. First, the phone number of one terrorist is all we need and in a short time, we will know his wife, his kids his friends (turbans and non-terrorists).

"With every additional turbans we know, a huge database can be created of turbans or those who help them in a short time, probably weeks. It is easy if you can read their text and eavesdrop on their communications to pick out the leaders, foot soldiers, and all." A resident commented.

Arabia
Yemen attack on military checkpoint 'kills 20 soldiers'
Twenty Yemeni soldiers have been killed in an attack on a military checkpoint in eastern Yemen, reports say, BBC reported. Yemen's state-run Saba news agency reports the attack took place in the province of Hadramawt.

Security sources earlier said eight had died and six were wounded in an attack that one source attributed to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP).

Hadramawt is a centre of oil production and seen as a stronghold for AQAP, which has been waging a campaign against the Western-backed government.

"Twenty soldiers were killed in the armed attack on an army checkpoint" near Reida, about 135km (85 miles) east of the provincial capital Mukalla, Saba reported.

One source told the AFP news agency that the attack was carried out by gunmen in several vehicles.

Two Philippine soldiers killed in NPA ambush
An Army junior officer and another soldier were killed, and four others were injured in an ambush by communist militants in Quezon province, on Monday morning, two days after the arrest of two of their top leaders in Cebu province.

Senior Supt. Ronaldo Genaro Ylagan identified the fatalities as 1st Lt. Rey Jun Blancada and a Private First Class Malabanan. Blancada and his men were on their way to a medical mission when they were waylaid by New People’s Army (NPA) members in Cogorin Ilaya village at 7 a.m. Reports indicate that the ensuing gun battle lasted for two hours. Four soldiers were injured and taken to the hospital.

On Saturday, Philippine security forces arrested Benito Tiamzon, head of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the NPA, and his wife, Wilma Austria, also a CPP central committee member and finance officer. Jose Ma. Sison, exiled CPP founder, promised that despite those arrests, the NPA “will become even more determined to wage a people’s war.”

The NPA is set to celebrate its 45th anniversary on March 29.

Military camps have been placed on “red alert” for NPA attacks following the arrest of the Tiamzons. A day after the red alert was declared, three separate encounters occurred on neighboring Samar Island.

The army found inside the campus 400 grams of dynamite sticks that were rigged to explode, NNA said.

The soldiers immediately defused them and seized them, the agency added.

Syrian rebels seize key area on Turkey border
Syrian rebels seized the Kasab village and border crossing with Turkey on Monday, an NGO said, as the regime launched fresh air strikes in a bid to halt the opposition advance. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the rebels and their ally Al Nusra Front were now in full control of Kasab, the only border crossing with Turkey in sensitive Latakia province, President Bashar Al Assad's heartland.

The crossing was the last functioning border post with Turkey to slip from regime control.

"The rebel fighters are in control of Kasab's main square. There is fighting on the edges of Kasab, but the rebels are in control of the village" and border crossing, Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said, four days into a rebel offensive.

According to a security source in Damascus, however, the village has not fallen.

"The situation is unclear, the fighting continues, and neither side is in control of the village," the source said.

The battle for Kasab, launched by rebels and Al Nusra Front on Friday, killed at least 130 regime and opposition fighters on Saturday and Sunday alone, said the Observatory. The rebel advance came despite Syria's air force carrying out strikes and dropping barrel bombs on Monday on their positions in the Kasab area and in nearby Jabal Turkman, said the Observatory. The army also used tanks to shell the Kasab frontier post, said the Observatory.

"The regime is very angry," said activist Omar Al Jeblawi. "They are using all their force — army and paramilitary — to try to stop the rebels, who in turn are trying to advance towards the sea."

Most of Kasab's majority Armenian residents have fled the village due to the fighting and air attacks, Abdel Rahman said. Kasab is the last remaining Armenian village in the Middle East, according to Syria expert Fabrice Balanche.

After three years of civil war, Syria's government now controls only nine of the 19 official land border crossings with its neighbours Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Turkey. Only one crossing into Turkey remains in government hands, but it is closed on the Turkish side.

Iran denies death of kidnapped border guard in Pakistan
The execution of a kidnapped Iranian border guard by a Pakistani Islamist group is unconfirmed by Iran, reported IRNA, citing an Iranian official. The Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Disciplinary Affairs Ali Abdollahi dismissed Jaish-ul-Adl's statement, saying "the report that one of five Iranian border guards was killed in Pakistan is not true and is not confirmed."

Five Iranian border guards were abducted in the Jakigour region in Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province on Feb. 6 and taken to Pakistan. Iranian officials held Pakistan accountable over the issue.
Good luck with holding Pakistan accountable for anything...
Jaish-ul-Adl, a Baluchi Islamist militant group has carried out a number of attacks against the state in recent years. They released a short statement on Twitter Feb. 26 claiming its "religious court" sentenced the five Iranian soldiers to death after reports that Iranian executed one of the relatives of the group's members in Iran.

Iranian media quoted Abdollahi as saying on Feb. 21 that Iran has sent a delegation to Pakistan's Balochistan to negotiate the release of the kidnapped soldiers.
Dawn adds:
Jaish al-Adl had demanded release of its members incarcerated
