De Blasio is as red as Ken Livingstone. This is not hyperbole. Earlier this year, we learned that in his youth (described by the New York Times, of course, as idealist) de Blasio was an ardent supporter of the Sandinistas in Nicaragua. This regime, which seized control of their country from the Somoza dictatorship in 1979, was armed and bankrolled by the Soviet Union. This didnt matter to the democratic socialist de Blasio, who happily visited Nicaragua in 1988 to help construct The Future. This is usually the part where apologists bring up the Iran-Contra scandal. But no blunder by the US government can erase an American citizens responsibility for supporting anti-American tyrants.
In 1991, de Blasio honeymooned in Cuba which is illegal according to US law. I happen to disagree with the law, but its the law nevertheless. More egregious is that de Blasio was probably enjoying his romantic bliss in one of those lavish foreigners-only hotels Castro erected as Potemkin resorts. Has he no shame? He has courted Hispanic voters despite supporting two regimes that have terrorised and murdered thousands of Hispanics. This does not register as irony in New York, however. During an interview in September, de Blasio was called out by a Cuban-American radio host on his fling with Castroism. The Democratic candidate answered feebly, I dont pretend to have full perspective of the country [Cuba]. He neednt pretend.

Yes, you Jerk, a lot of people were fooled by Hitler at first including your beloved FDR and don't forget Neville Chamberlain. Read the Garden of the Beasts in which FDR was willing to leave the Jews to the tender mercies of Der Fuhrer because he still thought Adolf might make good on WWI reparations. It was a good thing we had Churchill. I'm not sure if FDR ever would have figured it out for himself.
And it's true that some of our leaders past and present have been all too willing to overlook the flaws in the House of Sod. I won't defend them for it. Please note, however, that the last time the Soddies wanted us to fight a war for them the American people decided it was time to take a pass. Fool us once and all that, you know. That's right. In your wildest rationalized lefty dreams. The Germans and Soviet were at each others throats many months before the Japanese decided to drag America into the conflict. The die was cast. The Germans lacked the capacity to reach America to make any difference let alone deal with what they already had let loose. As for the Soviets, Uncle Joe was screaming for the Second Front for a reason. I don't recall the Russians saying "don't bother, we have this under control".

That was always Imperial Japan's greatest fear...

The last successful large scale Soviet amphibious landing during WWII took place in January, 1943 in Novorossiysk on the Black Sea. From start to finish the battle took eight months and is widely considered to be one of the worst strategic blunders in a long series of strategic blunders by Stalin in WWII.
To think that Stalin would undertake an amphibious invasion of Japan is just plain false, even if the Red Army had strong experience in amphibious landings (which they had none)

Moreover, the enemy has begun to employ a new and most cruel bomb, the power of which to do damage is, indeed, incalculable, taking the toll of many innocent lives.

Uncle Joey was trying to find a way to hang it up until Kursk, and Kursk only happened because of US equipment and money and UK intelligence. Even then, Joey would have hung it up had the US/UK not opened a second front in a timely manner.
Love the story about the soviet soldier who went off to war believing Russia Strong! and finds out all the transportation equipment is American. You can argue that taking away one of the three Allies and the effort fails, but Joey the Clown all by his lonesome wins the war? No UK, and all those bombers hitting London and Malta are headed east. Germans take Suez, Middle East, then kick Russia right in the Caucasus from two directions. No USA, no mobile infantry and no money in the crucial opening stages and no Pacific Fleet to pin Japan from taking Kamchatka and opening an Eastern Front.
Sovi Joey had so much going for him - simple political structure, home field advantage, weather advantage, foreign aid, numbers, short supply lines, pretty nice tank T-34, defensive urban battles, overconfident enemy political command and plans, undersupplied enemy, etc etc and they still only barely manage to defeat the Germans. The Soviet Union spent a lot of blood and treasure. The Russians can and should be proud of what they did during the war.
But a significant portion of that loss of blood and treasure can be laid at the Soviets' feet. Consider the purge of general and field grade officers prior to the war. And someone seems to have conveniently forgotten the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact, eh?
Oh, and a timeline:
April 13, 1941 - The neutrality pact between the Soviet Union and Japan was concluded.
March 07, 1945 - Japanese forces of Iwo Jima effectively eliminated.
April 29, 1945 - The Soviet Government makes known to the Government of Japan its wish to denounce the neutrality pact.
Aug 08, 1945 - Soviets declare war on Japan effective Aug 09 1945.
August 09, 1945 - The Soviets invade Manchuria.
Aug 09, 1945 - Atomic bomb dropped on Nagasaki.
Aug 10, 1945 Japan accepts Potsdam terms, agrees to unconditional surrender.

That's weird. Seems Stalin was unwilling to move his Siberian troops back west because Stalin feared Japan a lot more than the obverse.

[THEHILL] A Republican senator called Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius the "laughingstock of America" after she was lampooned on "Saturday Night Live."
The sketch, which aired Saturday, poked fun at Sebelius's attempts to downplay serious problems with ObamaCare's enrollment website.

"She's lost considerable credibility," Barrasso said of Sebelius. "She's the laughingstock of America."
Sebelius has experienced a wave of scrutiny since HealthCare.gov debuted with major problems on Oct. 1.
She has also drawn fire for certain public comments, like saying she did not know how many people had enrolled under ObamaCare during an interview with Comedy Central's Jon Stewart.
Sebelius also said last week that she "does not work" for people calling for her resignation. Even if they are citizens...
The health secretary was the target of several Republican attacks during the Sunday shows, just a few days before she appears before a House committee to talk about the rollout.
Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), a leader on the panel that will host Sebelius, said the former governor will testify on Wednesday before she's "out the door."
But the secretary received a defense from Sen. Joe Manchin (W-Va.), a Democrat who is leading the charge to delay ObamaCare's individual mandate. Manchin flatly denied that Sebelius should leave office and praised her record as Kansas insurance commissioner and governor.
"She's very capable of bringing people together," Manchin told ABC. "I think she ... will get the job done."

Seriously, every government contract I've ever worked on insisted on 3 months of testing before going into production. The very fact they started testing 2 weeks before the deadline should have told everyone that production should have been delayed.
The fact that QA testing failed should have told them production should be delayed indefinitely. Sebelius (or Obama) are the only ones who could have over-ridden this.

Any doubts were settled when the KANG returned and Sebelius snubbed them for a ticker tape parade in Lawrence.
