#2  Ever been on one of those ships that had things like no toilets and bilges and no place to get away from the surging stink and the steel bulkheads? Dark below decks and more rats than dinner? Got that down. And no one aboard knows if the Eye-talians will let them in or whether they can dock in Albania ? Fun fun fun.

Say praise Allah and puke over the side.

Egypt Military Court Jails 5 Palestinians
[AnNahar] An Egyptian military court on Wednesday sentenced five Paleostinian fishermen to one year each in jail for illegally entering Egyptian territorial waters, an army source told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The Paleostinians were jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
when they crossed into Egyptian waters near the border town of Rafah, the source said, adding that the verdict was delivered by a military court in the Suez canal town of Ismailiya.

On August 30 Egypt's navy arrested five Paleostinian fishermen, but it was unclear whether those sentenced on Wednesday were the same.

The verdict comes at a time when relations between Egypt and the Paleostinian Islamist movement Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, have sharply deteriorated since the military ouster on July 3 of president Mohammed Morsi.

Last week Egyptian naval forces shot up Paleostinian fishermen off the Gazoo Strip's southern coast and arrested two, according to Hamas which rules the Paleostinian enclave.

In a separate case, the military court in Ismailiya sentenced five Egyptian fishermen to one month in jail for fishing in the Suez canal during unauthorized hours, the army source said.

Police hunt for veteran Islamist in southern Egypt
Police hunted a veteran member of a former militant group in southern Egypt on Tuesday, security officials said, after he fled a town where the army and police deployed on Monday in an attempt to reimpose state authority. Assem Abdel Maged of the Gamaa Islamiya is among several dozen Islamist activists sought by the police in Minya province after their operation on Monday to restore control over the town of Delga, some 300 km (190 miles) south of Cairo.

Muslim Brotherhood Official, Former Clinton Foundation Employee Arrested
[FREEBEACON] A senior Moslem Brüderbund official who, until recently, had been employed by the William J. Clinton Foundation was incarcerated
Please don't kill me!
in Cairo on Tuesday and charged with inciting violence.

Gehad el-Haddad served as one of the Moslem Brüderbund's top communications officials until Egyptian security forces seized him as part of a wider crackdown on officials loyal to ousted former President Mohamed Morsi.

Before emerging as a top Brotherhood official and adviser to Morsi, el-Haddad served for five years as a top official at the Clinton Foundation, a nonprofit group founded by former President Bill Clinton.

El-Haddad gained a reputation for pushing the Moslem Brüderbund's Islamist agenda in the foreign press, where he was often quoted defending the Brotherhood's crackdown on civil liberties in Egypt.

He was raised in a family of prominent Brotherhood supporters and became the public face of the Islamist organization soon after leaving his post at the Clinton Foundation.

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
much of his official work with the Brotherhood took place while he was still claiming to be employed by the Clinton Foundation.

"It was only a matter of time before Gehad el-Haddad was arrested," Egypt expert Eric Trager told the Washington Free Beacon. "Many of the other Moslem Brüderbund spokesmen have been apprehended, and in addition to decapitating the organization, the military-backed government has been specifically targeting the Brotherhood's media wing, including by shutting down its T.V. stations at the time of Morsi's ouster on July 3."

Africa Subsaharan
Fresh Islamist Attack in Nigeria Kills Several, Burns Buildings
[AnNahar] Suspected Islamist Death Eaters dressed in military uniforms set up checkpoints in an attack in Nigeria's northeast, killing an unclear number of people and burning dozens of buildings, residents and authorities said Wednesday.

The attack on Tuesday evening in the Benishiek community in Borno state saw suspected members of Islamist krazed killer group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
invade the area, attacking residents and motorists.

A Borno state government official said at least five local residents were killed in addition to an unclear number of motorists travelling through the area, while about 50 buildings housing shops and homes were burnt.

"Based on the information at hand, only five residents of the area were killed," said Garba Ngamdu, an adviser to the state governor.

"A large chunk of the victims were motorists travelling on the highway, although we do not have a tentative figure yet."

An army front man confirmed the attack and said a number of residents and tanker drivers had been killed, but declined to provide further details.

Residents recounted seeing bodies along the roadside and said the attackers were singling out those from Borno state.

The reason why was not immediately clear, but Boko Haram members have repeatedly carried out Dire Revenge™ attacks against residents over the emergence of vigilante groups that have formed to assist the military.

"The Death Eaters arrived in military vans and uniforms around 6:00 pm (1700 GMT)," Mallam Isa Manu, a motorist who escaped unhurt, told journalists in the Borno state capital Maiduguri.

"They set up checkpoints on the Damaturu-Maiduguri highway and ordered motorists to park and identify themselves."

Benishiek was also the scene of festivities on September 8 between suspected Boko Haram gunnies and vigilantes.

Five Islamists and 13 vigilantes were reported to have been killed.

A military offensive launched in May aiming to end Boko Haram's four-year insurgency appears to have pushed the bully boyz outside of major cities and into more remote areas, where attacks have been occurring.

Separately on Wednesday, the military claimed a strike on a Boko Haram camp in the northeast last week left about 150 Islamists and 16 soldiers dead, amid reports of dozens of troops killed.

Nigerian Army Claims Raid on Boko Haram Kills 150 Islamists
[AnNahar] A military strike on a Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
camp in Nigeria's restive northeast last week left about 150 Islamists and 16 soldiers dead, the army said Wednesday, amid reports of dozens of troops killed.

The army's claim of a major offensive against the Islamist Death Eaters on September 12 came after local media reported that Boko Haram had ambushed a group of soldiers in the same area, killing 40 and leaving dozens of others missing.

Military officials were not available to comment on the reported Boko Haram ambush, speaking only about the purported military strike.

Details of last week's military operation had not been previously made public.

"It was a highly fortified bully boy camp with heavy weapons in (northeastern) Borno State," army front man Ibrahim Attahiru said, adding that the camp was in the Kasiya forest.

"The army raided the camp on September 12. Some 150 Boko Haram bad boyz were potted, while the military lost 16 soldiers. Nine soldiers are still missing," he told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The forest where the alleged raid occurred is some 70 kilometers (43 miles) northeast of Borno's capital Maiduguri, the city where Boko Haram was founded more than a decade ago.

The area surrounding Kasiya had acquired a reputation for armed robbery.

There has been speculation that Boko Haram had strengthened its presence in the remote area in recent months, several people familiar with the region told AFP.

Borno was placed under a state of emergency in mid-May, when the military shut down the mobile phone network to block Islamists from coordinating attacks amid an operation aimed at crushing the insurgency.

With the communication network switched off, details of attacks have been slow to emerge and difficult to verify.

Residents, victims as well as local politicians have been largely unreachable, with military statements forming the main source of information in the ongoing offensive against Boko Haram.

The military has claimed major successes in the operation, describing the Death Eaters as being in disarray.

There are indications that Boko Haram attacks, which were previously carried out across northern Nigeria, have been partly contained in the northeast, especially Borno state, the group's historic stronghold.

If confirmed however, Boko Haram's reported ambush on the military would cast doubt on claims that the bully boys' capacity to attack has been curbed.

According to local media, the alleged Boko Haram ambush happened in the northeastern corner of Borno state, towards the border with Chad.

Widely read Punch newspaper, citing a high-ranking military source, said the military failed to send aerial support for the soldiers who were ambushed.

According to the paper, the failure to send air support has led to anger among soldiers involved in the pursuit of Boko Haram.

Since the offensive was launched, Boko Haram has been blamed for massacres that left dozens of students of dead, as well as the mass killing of Musselmens gathering for morning prayers, among other attacks.

The Islamists have also repeatedly clashed with vigilante groups which have formed in Borno.

Boko Haram has said it is fighting to create an Islamic state in northern Nigeria, but its aims have shifted and the group is believed to consist of different factions.

Nigeria is Africa's most populous nation and top oil producer, with a mostly Christian south and a predominately Musselmen north.

A total of 20 armed suspects crossed by boat to Presa de Los Leones, then shot at an unarmed civilian and torched a home Monday, according to various news accounts posted on the website of El Debate news daily.

The civilian under fire fled the area and into the hills under constant small arms fire as he left.

At about 1000 hrs the suspects entered the village of Tacopaco and began to fire their weapons, mostly AK-47 rifles. There they kidnapped Saul Salmeron Rabago, 57, and torched three more homes. Residents of the village, totaling about 50, reported beatings by the suspects as they moved through the area.

Following the attack, the suspects withdrew towards Chihuahua state by boat.

Local police were not notified of the incident until 1300 hrs. Security forces consisting of municipal police, Sinaloa state ministerial agents and army troops moved to Tacopaco. There they found two vehicles, one Jeep Cherokee SUV and one Nissan pickup truck which had been destroyed by fire.

Police also found at least 19 spent cartridge casings for AK-47 rifles, but the El Debate report said many more than that number had been found.

The report also said ministerial agents requested a helicopter to the area, but it never arrived. Police also went to the Presa de Luis Donaldo Colosio dam towards ejido Techobampo and evacuated 14 individuals, mostly women and children. Many more had fled into the mountains seeking refuge from marauding drug gangs.

In a separate account, an unidentified dairy farmer from Choix said he came under small arms fire at around 0700 hrs, the presumed start time of the assault, and fled under constant rifle fire. He waited in the hills without food or water for several hours as he watched armed suspects move through the area.

Residents of Tacopaco also fled their village, waiting for hours with only bottled water until state police arrived and began evacuating them to a shelter in Choix proper, along with other local refugees.

According to an El Debate article, the Mexican Army will reinforce patrols in the area.

India-Pakistan
Five Pakistanis Killed by Afghan Forces in Border Firing
[AnNahar] Pakistain accused Afghan forces of killing five Paks on Wednesday in cross-border "indiscriminate firing" in its southwestern Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province.

The Pakistain foreign ministry issued a statement saying that it had protested the killing of "five innocent people in firing by the Afghan border police".

"The Afghan Charge d' Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office and a strong protest was lodged over the indiscriminate firing today (Wednesday) by the Afghan Border Police, which resulted in the killing of five innocent Paks," the statement said.

Pak officials said that shots were fired near the village of Godwana, in the Zhob district of Balochistan province, which also borders Iran.

Afghan forces fired in the Pak area in the morning, Zulfiqar Durrani, a senior administration official in Zhob, told Agence La Belle France Presse. "Their soldiers entered Pak territory to launch indiscriminate fire," he said.

Pakistain asked the Afghan government to launch an inquiry into the incident, saying it had conveyed "serious concern".

It also asked Afghanistan to "adhere to the border coordination and cooperation mechanisms, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents," the statement said.

The foreign ministry said that such incidents are "detrimental to the friendly relations and undermine goodwill between the two brotherly countries".

Pakistain and Afghanistan share a disputed, porous and unmarked 2,400-kilometer (1,500-mile) border, and have tricky diplomatic relations, accusing each other previously of cross border violations and sending gunnies to create unrest.

Pakistain has been a frontline in the U.S.-led war on terror in Afghanistan to eliminate al-Qaeda and Talibs from the war-torn country.
Dawn has more, including a map and these interesting details:
Taj Mohammed, a deputy commissioner in Zhob, told news agency AP that the men had crossed the mostly non-existent border to get fodder for their cattle when Afghan cops killed them.

There were conflicting claims, however, about whether the men were bully boyz or Pak cattle farmers.
Simple but highly armed cowherds? I s'pose it's possible...
AP reported the police chief for Afghanistan’s Paktika
...which coincidentally borders South Wazoo...
province, Daulat Khan Zadran, as saying that the men were Talibs killed in a confrontation with Afghan cops. Zadran said the bodies of three of the slain men were still in Afghanistan.

Local Taleban leader killed in Karachi raid
It almost reads like a RAB encounter...
A local commander of the banned and much-feared Tehreek-e-Taleban Pakistan (TTP) was killed in the southern port city of Karachi on Wednesday in an encounter with police, officials said.

They said personnel from the Anti-Extremism Cell (AEC) of the police killed the commander, identified as Hazrat Ali, during an early morning raid in the Manghopir area, after intelligence reports that some TTP militants were hiding there.

Chaudhry Aslam, who leads the AEC of the police, said he raided the area along with his men on a tip-off from a source regarding the presence of the militants, and that weapons and hand grenades were recovered during the action. He said on seeing the police party, the militants opened fire, to which the police responded and arrested an injured Ali after a brief encounter. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

Aslam said seven of Ali’s accomplices managed to flee, taking advantage of the early morning darkness. He also said that the dead militant and his companions belonged to the TTP’s Hakimullah Group.

"The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) has seized complete control of Azaz. They are in control of the town's entrances," said Abu Ahmad, an activist inside the town.

Another activist, a resident of the border town, confirmed the report.

's regime.

In a sign that Syria's conflict has grown highly localized in recent months, ISIS has fought side by side with rebels against government troops in other areas of the country.

In Azaz, reports emerged of continuing festivities.

Abu Ahmad said that after seizing the town, ISIS fighters were "on their way to the (nearby) Bab al-Salameh" border crossing with Turkey.

Bab al-Salameh has for months been under control of local rebels, chiefly the Northern Storm brigade.

News of the seizure of Azaz came after a battle lasting several hours between Northern Storm fighters and ISIS.

Among those reported killed in the festivities was Omar Diab, a media activist from Azaz.

Snipers Haunt Syrian Christian Town of Maalula
[AnNahar] "Maalula, city of culture and history, welcomes you," reads a sign at the entrance to Syria's best known Christian town. But any semblance of welcome evaporates once inside Maalula.

The army is fighting an invisible enemy, and an Agence La Belle France Presse team narrowly escaped sniper fire.

"We never see them, but we hear the shots fired by their Dragunovs," the Russians' favorite sniper rifle, said a soldier holding his weapon as he sheltered behind a wall.

A car is parked at the roadside, its windscreen has went kaboom! and its driver looks dead. His belongings lie strewn on the pavement of this ghost town.

After an Agence La Belle France Presse photographer crossed one of Maalula's streets, a sniper shot up the journalist. Bullets landed just meters (yards) away.

The journalist was forced to lie on the ground and hide behind a wall to escape the shots.

Every time he tried to move, the sniper opened fire immediately.

It was only as loyalist soldiers fired their own guns in the sniper's direction that the journalist managed to escape.

An armored vehicle arrived at the scene and opened fire, allowing the journalist to escape.

The soldier said: "It's like this every day. We can only move without fear of sniping during the evenings."

Maalula is nestled under a large cliff, whose summit is controlled by the rebels, making it difficult for the army to secure its grip there.

The town is strategically important for rebels, who are trying to tighten their grip on Damascus and already have bases circling the capital.

The army has "reclaimed most of the town, but the hard boyz use their snipers to stop us from bringing it totally under control", said a colonel who leads the loyalists' operations in the historic town.

"We are continuing to make slow progress. But it is very difficult because we cannot bombard it, there are historic treasures," the colonel told AFP.

Maalula's population of up to 5,000 fluctuates throughout the year, with Christian families flocking there each summer from Damascus and abroad.

While the majority of its winter residents are Mohammedan, the town is majority Christian in summer.

Rebel forces, among them al-Qaeda-linked jihadists, took control of Maalula on September 9. Three days later, the army entered the town.

Maalula lies some 55 kilometers (35 miles) north of Damascus. It is considered a symbol of the ancient Christian presence in Syria.

Its people are among the world's last remaining speakers of Aramaic, the language of Jesus Christ.

The town's name comes from the word "maala", which in Aramaic means "the entrance".

On September 14, for the first time, the town known across the Middle East for its "Exaltation of the Cross" feast day was not decorated with lights, nor did it host Christian and Mohammedan visitors dining and celebrating together.

The archway at the town's entrance has been damaged by a suicide kaboomer who detonated a boom-mobile at the start of the battle for the town.

But much of the rest of Maalula has been unscathed, as the army has refrained from shelling it.

Only the Saint Elias church dome has been punctured.

"This battle may be long because they (the rebels) are hiding in the hills and in the Safir hotel," perched above the town, said the colonel.

"But I think we will win in the end."

Three Lebanese Sentenced to Life in Prison over Attacks against UNIFIL
[AnNahar] The military court on Wednesday sentenced in absentia three Lebanese nationals to life in prison over their involvement in attacks against the UNIFIL troops in southern Leb.

Mohammed Zayyat, Samer al-Reech and Mahmoud Derbass were convicted of attacking U.N. peacekeeping troops and were given life in prison with hard labor.

The three men were previously released during the process of the trial but did not show up at court for the hearings.

by Internal Security Forces.

On December 9, 2011, five French soldiers and two civilians were maimed by a powerful roadside kaboom that targeted a UNIFIL patrol in the southern coastal city of Tyre.

UNIFIL front man Andrea Tenenti said the 5 peacekeepers were maimed when an kaboom targeted their patrol in an area south of Tyre around 9:30 am. He did not specify to which contingent they belonged to.

A security official told Agence La Belle France Presse that a bomb was hidden under dirt on the side of the road and detonated as the soldiers were driving by in a four-wheeler.

The blast left a one-meter deep crater and caused damages to nearby houses.

Also, a French U.N. patrol was attacked on July 26 and Italian peacekeepers were targeted on May 27.

Israeli Unit Crosses Technical Fence in Southern Lebanon
[AnNahar] An Israeli unit crossed on Wednesday the technical fence at the southern town of al-Abbasiyeh, reported the National News Agency.

It added that the unit, comprised of some ten soldiers, did not violate the Blue Line.

Accompanied by two military vehicles and a Merkava tank, the soldiers searched the area near residential houses.

After less than an hour, the force returned to its position at al-Dahra located near the technical fence.

Arrest Warrants Issued against 3 Syrians over Attempt to Fire Rockets from Aramoun to Dahieh
[AnNahar] Arrest warrants were issued on Wednesday against Syrians over their involvement in an attempt to fire rockets from the Aramoun region to Beirut's southern suburbs, reported the National News Agency.

Military Examining Magistrate Fadi Sawan issued three arrest warrants against Mohammed and Ghayyath Qarhathan and Omar al-Dirani.

Mohammed and Ghayyath Qarhathan were interrogated and charged with belonging to an armed terrorist group and attempting to fire the rockets from Aramoun to Dahieh.

Dirani was meanwhile questioned and charged with harboring the two other Syrians.

On May 26, four people were maimed in a rocket attack on Beirut's southern suburbs.

The Lebanese army said in a statement that a rocket was fired at a car dealership near the Mar Mikhael church and another landed in the Maroun Misk neighborhood.

On August 1, two rockets fired from an area near the town of Aramoun in Aley struck locations near the presidential palace and the Defense Ministry in Baabda.

Jund al-Sham, Fatah Supporters Clash in Ain el-Hilweh
[AnNahar] An armed clash took place on Tuesday evening between supporters of the Death Eater group Jund al-Sham and Fatah members in the southern refugee camp of Ein el-Hellhole, the state-run National News Agency reported.

"The clash took place after Jund al-Sham supporters attacked a Fatah office in the camp," the NNA said.

It detailed: "Shells and machine guns were used in the fighting."

LBCI television said that one person was maimed in the clash, remarking that the fighting erupted after security cameras were targeted with gunshots.

Meanwhile,
...back at the revival hall, the SWAT team had finally arrived...
al-Jadeed television revealed that a number of the Taamir neighborhood residents have fled their houses and took refuge in the Mousalli mosque to avoid the armed festivities.

Ein el-Hellhole, the largest Paleostinian camp in the country, is home to about 50,000 refugees and is known to harbor bully boyz and runaways.

By long-standing convention, the Lebanese army does not enter the country's 12 refugee camps, leaving security inside to the Paleostinians themselves.

Family announces death of Arab-Israeli in Syria
[FOXNEWS] A family in Israel's Arab minority is mourning the death of their son, killed fighting in the Syrian civil war.

Zaki Agbariah said he is proud of his 28-year-old son Mueid. The family told Channel 1 television Wednesday that Mueid didn't tell anybody that he was going to Syria to fight.

This is the first known incident of an Arab-Israeli killed while fighting in the Syrian war. But it is not the first case of an Arab with Israeli citizenship joining the fighting.

Ex-Guantanamo detainee dies fighting Assad in Syria
[MCCLATCHYDC] An Islamic opposition group in Syria has posted a video of the funeral of a former Guantanamo prisoner, the first known report that one of the 500 or so captives released during the Bush administration joined the Syrian insurgency to topple Bashir al-Assad.

The Syrian Islamic Movement posted the video Monday on YouTube. It shows the body of a fallen fighter in his 30s or 40s and a rebel leader, Sheik Abu Ahmad al Muhajir, eulogizing the man as Mohammed al Alami, a Northwest African veteran of the jihad in Afghanistan "who went through hardship for the sake of God in the prison of the Americans in Guantanamo for five years."

U.S. Defense Department officials who help track released Guantanamo detainees had no comment Tuesday.

Aaron Zelin, editor of the jihadology blog from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said the posting from the Aug. 5 funeral confirmed reports of a former Guantanamo prisoner's death in Syria that had been floating around the Internet for weeks.

"We finally have evidence with this video from a credible media outlet within the jihadi media sphere," said Zelin, who had already seen it when a Miami Herald news hound contacted him Tuesday about the overnight posting.

"Obviously there've been cases of people [Guantanamo detainees] who've gone back to continue the fight," he said. "It's not surprising. But it is interesting."

Wednesday morning, a post on the jihadology blog identified the white-haired man delivering the eulogy as a fellow Moroccan who did time as a prisoner at Guantanamo too, Ibrahim Bin Shakran. According to his Guantanamo file, he was born in Casablanca and would be 34 years old today.

Shakran was repatriated to Morocco in July 2004. The Defense Intelligence Agency listed him among "confirmed" former Guantanamo recidivists on a fact sheet released by the Department of Defense in April 7, 2009. He was described as an al-Qaeda recruiter in Iraq.

Syria gives Russia ‘new evidence’ rebels behind chemical attack
The Syrian regime has handed Russia new materials implicating rebels in a chemical attack outside Damascus on August 21, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said on Wednesday after talks in Damascus.

“The corresponding materials were handed to the Russian side. We were told that they were evidence that the rebels are implicated in the chemical attack,” Ryabkov was quoted as saying by Russian news agencies after talks with Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al Muallem late on Tuesday.

He said that Russia would “examine the Syrian materials implicating the rebels with the utmost seriousness.”
There. That should do it.
To the fury of the West, Russia has repeatedly expressed suspicion that the chemical attack was a “provocation” staged by the rebels with the aim of attracting Western military intervention in the conflict.

Ryabkov also said Russia was disappointed with the UN report into the chemical weapons attack published this week, saying it was selective and had ignored other episodes.

“Without a full picture... we cannot describe the character of the conclusions as anything other than politicised, biased and one-sided,” he said.

Ryabkov is on a visit to Damascus to present the Syrian regime with the results of the agreement between Moscow and Washington reached in Geneva at the weekend to rid Syria of its chemical weapons. He said he emphasised to Muallem the importance of the Syrian side “strictly and swiftly” handing over details of its chemical weapons arsenal to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the first step in the agreement.

The Russia-US agreement is aimed at warding off the threat of US-led incredibly small military action as retribution for the chemical attack, which the West blames squarely on the regime.

Ryabkov said he assured the Syrian side that there was “no basis” for a UN Security Council resolution on the chemical weapons agreement to invoke Chapter VII of the UN Charter that allows the use of force and tough sanctions. He said this could only be considered if the UN Security Council was able to confirm violations of the convention on chemical weapons. “This is a hypothetical situation.”

“It is especially important that some kind of political interests do not again appear, especially in New York (at the UN Security Council),” he added.
The Rooskies and the Chinese will make sure of that...
