US lawmakers will ditch a plan to ban assault weapons, all but killing off a key part of a gun control campaign prompted by a recent school massacre.
Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein said her proposal would be left out of the firearms control bill.
Democratic Senate leader Harry Reid made the decision, saying the proposal could not get enough votes.
An assault-type weapon
...is that the American equivalent of a 'shutter gun'?
was used in the December massacre that killed 26 at a primary school in Newtown, Connecticut.
The shooting shocked the US and revived efforts in Washington DC to prohibit such firearms.
But while polls show most Americans back an assault weapon ban, influential pro-gun lobby groups such as the National Rifle Association have pressed lawmakers to oppose such a move.
Sen Feinstein said she might put forward the assault weapons proposal, similar to a previous one she sponsored that expired in 2004, as an amendment to the bill. But she would need 60 votes from the 100-member Senate to succeed, a margin analysts say the amendment would be unlikely to reach.
"I very much regret it," Sen Feinstein said. "I tried my best."
The plan had only narrowly passed a Senate panel last week, underlining its poor chances of clearing the full chamber.
It was one of four gun control measures backed by the panel, including expanded background check requirements for people buying guns, harsher punishments for illegal gun trafficking, and more money for security at schools.

"Realized they'd stepped over the boundaries, did they."
Not quite, RJ.
They realized enough Dem voters in their respective states would get and stay mightly pissed at them and would either stay home next election or vote for the other party.
They're not interesting in the Constitution they swore to uphold and defend. They've interested in protecting their own worthless asses.

NBC's Jim Miklaszewski reports: Now I can tell you, Marine Corps officials this afternoon are taking a strong exception to what Harry Reid implied. Saying that this this exercise, for example, was planned well in advance, had nothing to do with the budget cuts. There were no corners cut, and if they couldn't afford to have all the safety precautions into place, they wouldn't do the exercise.
And in fact, one Marine Corps official told us a short time ago that he considers this nothing but pure political posturing on the backs of these dead Marines.
[WASHINGTONEXAMINER] During the Friday event at which President Obama announced $2 billion in new green energy subsidies, he erroneously credited his administration's "all of the above" energy policy for the nation's increased oil and gas production. "We produce more oil than we have in 15 years," he said. "We import less oil than we have in 20 years. We're producing more natural gas than we ever have before -- with hundreds of thousands of good jobs to show for it."
The numbers and facts that Obama cited were all correct. But his claim is still false, unless he can somehow claim credit (and we wouldn't necessarily put it past him) for placing massive shale deposits below ground stretching from Texas to North Dakota and from the mountain West to western Maryland.

Given the man put his hand on a bible and said he'd defend the Constitution of the United States, why would anyone but the brain dead sheep believe him.

Well, to be fair he can also claim credit for the renaissance in 2nd ammendment understanding and purpose; perhaps just in time to train a million Coffeyville's against the largest Daltan Gang plan yet.
[An Nahar] Former U.S. secretary of state Hillary Clinton, who may be eyeing a run in the 2016 presidential election, came off the sidelines Monday and announced her support for gay marriage.
While Clinton pushed gay, lesbian and transgender (LGBT) rights during her four-year tenure as America's top diplomat, considering them human rights, she had not until now advocated for same-sex marriage.

I believe events in Benghazi and failing health will be her eventual undoing.

Grom, 2008 was her time. She ran afoul of a black swan event (cough) and that's that. The stars rarely align twice in the Blue Zone. That said she will run and I expect her to do well but pull out due to exhaustion and a desire to spend more time with her family.

Ah, come on. She's locked into the Donk principle of tribalization. They don't want a America. They want hyphenated groups to exploit for obtaining and retaining power. Divide and rule. Like the scorpion (and the frog), she can't help herself, it's in her nature. Pitiful. Desperate. Pandering.
