For that kind of money you can get a Model 700, a Dakota, a Weatherby, etc., all in easy to find, easy to handload calibers, more accurate, and all set up to take a scope.
Collector only. For $1500? I could get two workmanlike used Rugers in that shape for that much. Pfft.

I'm just glad SN-5396 finally turned up. That young IDF private who left it leaning against a cedar can rest easier now. :-)

I have my collector's item. Nobody's taking my lovely International Harvester Garand til I've done 'thrust to the chest' with the bayonet followed by firing it til it goes *PING* into their chest. I got mine from the DCM back when it was not graded and $169. It's NICE.:D
Max Fisher could write for Rantburg if this piece is his usual style...

ION NOKOR, FREEREPUBLIC > PRACTICE RUN:STRATEGIC US BOMBERS [B-52H]PRACTICE NUCLEAR STRIKES ON NORTH KOREA.
* RELATED WORLD NEWS > [WAPO] WID NORTH KOREA IN MIND, PENTAGON HIGHLIGHTS B-52 FLIGHTS OVER SOUTH KOREA.
* DEFENCE FORUM INDIA > [US Senator Bob Menendez]ATTACKING US WOULD BE SUICIDE, US LAWMAKER TELLS NORTH KOREA.
* WORLD MILITARY FORUM > US RETURNS TO INDIAN OCEAN REGION + CENTRAL ASIA AS FOCII OF ITS ASIA-PACIFIC STRATEGY, TO INCLUDE WEST ASIA [Afghansitan + Pakistan] + WESTERN AFRICA.
versus
* DEFENCE.PK/FORUMS > BBC: NORTH KOREA WARNS CITIZENS TO EVACUATE BORDER REGIONS.
IMO ostensib in case Arty, Missle exchanges begin
one day???
* WORLD MILITARY FORUM > RUSSIAN MEDIAS: "NORTH KOREA'S "TANIYAMA" M1978 LONG-RANGE ARTILLERY CANNON IS THE MAIN "BALLISTIC MISSLE" IN NORTH KOREA'S ARSENAL.
IIUC, the Russians are trying hard NOT to say that any DPRK LR nuclear missle is actually from China.
ONCE AGAIN, 'TIS CHINA-MADE + CHINA-ORDERED BUT NORTH KOREA-LAUNCHED/FIRED???
* SAME > "WE WILL FIGHT EVEN WID NO SHOES ON OUR BARE FEET": NORTH KOREA'S KCNA REPORTS THAT THE DPRK CENTRAL COMMITTE HAS WARNED THAT THE ENTIRE PENINSULA IS ON THE "BRINK/EDGE OF REAL WAR" DUE TO US-LED PROVOCATIONS [US-ROK MilEx].
WHICH HAS MOVED WELL-BEYOND NORTH KOREA'S
"RED/DANGER LINES" FOR WAR.
* GUARDIAN.UK > CHINA WARNS US OVER MISSLE DEFENSE PROGRAMME [14 new BMD Interceptors for Fort Greely, AK] AGZ NORTH KOREA.
The US = Bammer Admin is risking upsetting = antagonizing the DPRK's Kim Jong-Un.
* WAFF > [StrategyPage] CHINA HAS A PLAN FOR JAPAN, i.e. PLA + smaller Milassets to "wear out" the larger + more techy JSDF by causing them to "run around" in chase.
Indirectly is a swipe at the debt-ridden US + MLR/MLL per Nippon.
IMO the best way for the US-Allies to counter this + save the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON from DPRK = covert Chinese attack is to deploy USN FBM Subs close to the theater.
The USN may also wanna recall the newly
"retired" + "gone from inventory" TOMAHAWK TLCM for the time being.
Lots of NIMITZ-class CVNS docked "Pearl Harbor" style in homeport due to "seqestration", + no TOMAHAWKS either - the US has only the "Georgie" to defend all of East Asia from the PLA + MOtherly Commie Airborne.

Correct me iff I'm wrong, but IIRC Turkey is not yet formally a part of the EU, so when the MSM says or mentions "Cyprus" as per their new/latest crisis it means "GREEK/SOUTHERN CYPRUS".
Both Greek + Turkish Cyprus are in competition for OWG EU, IMF Bailouts + diplomatic recognition espec ala Greece + Turkey.
Just as Radical Islam wants its OWG Caliphate + Ummah, so in similar does the Greek-Russian Orthodox Church [read, MOSCOW = "THE THIRD ROME" = NOT-THE-VATICAN-OR-ATHENS-OR-CONSTANTINOPLE].
It's hard to imagine an unhappier man than Barack Obama's aide Benjamin Rhodes, whose ''anguish'' is the subject of a March 15 New York Times profile. What keeps the 35-year-old Deputy National Security Advisor up nights is the 70,000 casualties in two years of civil war in Syria, and the likelihood that whatever the United States does to help the Syrian opposition will leave more people dead.
Rhodes came to Washington with a rescue fantasy about the Muslim world and a sentimental obsession that the job of American foreign policy was to protect civilians from harm.
America is now impotent in the face of a humanitarian catastrophe that is spreading from Syria to Iraq and Lebanon. The idealists of the present administration and its predecessor are the proximate cause of the bloodshed.
----
America's blundering provided the impetus for each step in this scripted tragedy, except, of course, for the blundering of the European Union.
----
It is a matter of simple logic that countries composed of potentially warring ethnic and sectarian constituencies can only be stable under minority rule. Majority rule would threaten the existence of minorities and give them cause to fight to the death.
----
The correct American policy response to the unraveling of the Arab world should have been was to neutralize Iran, specifically, destroying its capacity to make nuclear weapons and reducing the Revolutionary Guards. With Iran de-fanged, the Syrian conflict would have burned itself out by now.
Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah fighters would not have reinforced the Assad regime, and the Saudis and Turks would not have sponsored Sunni insurgents. Life in Egypt and Syria would have been miserable, even violent, but the violence would have remained localized. It was time for Mubarak to go, but America might have smoothed the transition in cooperation with the military and the small minority of demographic reformers.
----
American blunders through two administrations have set a regional Sunni-Shi'ite war in motion that the utopians in Washington are powerless to prevent.
---
From the Republican side, the ill omen came from the Conservative Political Action Committee retreat last week in Maryland, where the Kentucky isolationist Senator Rand Paul won the straw poll for the next Republican presidential nomination. Paul and his constituents want no foreign policy at all. That, in effect, is what we have at the Obama White House. It may turn into a bi-partisan consensus.
The liberal interventionists of the Obama administration may have set in motion one of history's biggest humanitarian catastrophes, while the hawkish interventionists of the Republican party may have persuaded American voters to switch off the world news for a generation.

Yawn. The Paulistas did the same thing last CPAC election-era meeting, voting for the Old Man.
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
