An investigator cautioned that the killer was possibly trying to mislead police by drawing attention to supporters of the punk provocateurs.
The Investigative Committee said in a statement that the women, aged 76 and 38, were killed late last week in their apartment in the central city of Kazan with the words "Free Pussy Riot'' written on the wall in English, "presumably'' with blood. The substance has not yet been confirmed, it said.
It did not provide the women's names and did not reveal details about their occupations or whether they had any connection to the band. Russian tabloid Lifenews quoted an unnamed investigator as saying that the bodies were disfigured by multiple stab wounds.

"I am sorry that some freaks are using Pussy Riot's band name,'' Nikolai Polozov was further quoted by Interfax as saying.
An investigator in Kazan said that the murderer was trying to cover up the crime by attributing the murder to the band's supporters.

Credo Mutwa, the Zulu Sanusi and Bantu historian explains it perfectly in his Book, Indaba my Children: African Folk Tales a book he wrote in 1964.
On Page 628-632 he explains this preoccupation with revenge.
He says that blacks believe that if you killed one of them, that persons soul will die if you do not take revenge upon it.
So they go out and take revenge and kill ten people of the other tribe
But that tribe has the same belief, so they take revenge for every one of their ten dead and kill a hundred. So the other tribe is obliged to take revenge again and kill a thousand, and so on and so forth.
Credo Mutwa also explains and give examples of how these feuds can last for 35 generations or 400 years and never end.
So let me tell you what is going to happen next.
Those blacks who witnessed their brothers being killed at Lonmins mine at Marikana are not going to just dissipate and let it be. First of all, they are obliged by the High Law of the Bantu to take revenge.
Secondly, they were humiliated. And that is a cardinal sin to commit against the Bantu.
I quote Credo Mutwa on page 627:
The Bantu can tolerate the cruelest humiliation, even with a smile; they can take the cruelest beatings as a matter of course; the vilest insults slide off them like water off a well-greased ducks back. Yet, when called upon, they will stand together with those who have treated them thus and fight with them a war to death. But if you touch a mans wife, mother, sister or daughter, call them names, or refer insultingly to their womanhood, he is bound by law to kill you. If he fails he will make his childrens children take oaths to kill your childrens children.
Foreign Ministers of the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will hold an important meeting on Sunday to discuss greater unification of the Gulf States and to review all aspects of a plan to transform the GCC into a strong unified Gulf Union.
This 124th ministerial meeting, to be held in Jeddah after the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, will also examine key regional issues. Gulf States are already tied through unified policies, militarily, politically and economically under the mandate of the GCC Charter.
Abdulatif Al-Zayani, GCC secretary general said, Unification is meant to empower GCC bloc countries and empower members to come to the aid of one another in times of threat."
A GCC commission in December last year to discuss the initiative completed its review and submitted comments and recommendations to GCC foreign ministers recently.
Al-Zayani said foreign ministers would discuss other regional and international concerns. The agenda will include discussion on the situation in Yemen, Syria and Iran and a review of reports filed by ministerial committees for GCC joint action.

[India Express] Driven by strong end-user demand and appetite for low-priced smartphones, China is expected to become the largest market for smart devices this year, overtaking the US, research firm IDC has said.
According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker, China will account for 26.5 per cent of all smartphone shipments in 2012 compared to 17.8 per cent for the US.
However, some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them... by 2016, the share of China is expected to come down to 23 per cent by 2016, while that of US is expected to be about 14.5 per cent.
India is expected to rank fourth in the tally in 2012 after the UK (4.5 per cent). India with a 2.5 per cent share of the overall shipments would be slightly ahead of Brazil (2.3 per cent).
The remaining 46.4 per cent would come from the rest of the world, IDC said.
India's share in the global smartphone market stood at 2.2 per cent in 2011 and is pegged to grow to 8.5 per cent in 2016.
With smartphone penetration in India currently among the lowest in Asia/Pacific, the market has tremendous untapped growth potential, it added.
"Low-end smartphones offering dual-SIM capability and local apps and priced around USD 100 will rapidly bring this market to life," it said.
Although 3G data plans are currently too expensive for the majority of consumers in India, IDC said it expects 3G services to become popular, and in later years, 4G to drive smartphone uptake.

WASHINGTON: The World Bank said Thursday that drought in the US and Eastern Europe crop centers sent global food prices soaring by 10 percent last month, raising a food security threat to the worlds poorest people. The surge in prices, mainly due to the devastating heat wave across the central US, which produces the worlds largest crops of corn (maize) and soybeans, places in danger millions around the world, especially in countries dependent on imported grains, according to the bank.
From June to July, the prices of both corn and wheat jumped by 25 percent while soybeans were up 17 percent. Corn and soybean prices topped their previous record highs in the food price crisis of June 2008. The other key global staple, rice, was four percent lower, however. That left the World Banks food price index six percent higher than a year earlier and one percent higher than the February 2011 peak.
Food prices rose again sharply threatening the health and well-being of millions of people, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim said in a statement. Africa and the Middle East are particularly vulnerable, but so are people in other countries where the prices of grains have gone up abruptly.
The World Bank called countries in the Middle East and North and Sub-Saharan Africa the most vulnerable to this global shock.
They have large food import bills, their food consumption is a large share of average household spending, and they have limited fiscal space and comparatively weaker protective mechanisms, the Bank said in its Food Price Watch report.
Domestic food prices in these regions have also experienced sharp increases even before the global shock due to seasonal trends, poor past harvests, and conflict, it said.
The World Bank said that the diversion of corn to produce ethanol biofuel which takes up to 40 percent of US corn production is a key factor in the sharp rise in the corn price.

In other parts of the world food costs for a family could be as much as 70% of the household budget. That was years before these current price increases. Soup and broth with rice meals but lots of vegetables. Family with four children really suffer (Romania for example).

I remember being told in college - this was about 15 years ago - that there has not been a TRULY weather-only caused widespread famine in more than a century...every single one since can be traced directly back to political causes.
