The article and the comments are worth a read. Righthaven bought up the copyrights not for disemmination but solely for the purpose of laswsuits and making a quick buck? Who would have known (sarc)? Blessings upon Judge Kane. Sorry you had to go through this crap Fred.
In what is becoming a well-settled pattern, Righthaven again finds itself on the losing end of a motion, with its case thrown out and owing the defendant -- here, Leland Wolf, proprietor of the It Makes Sense Blog -- costs and attorneys' fees for bringing a baseless copyright case. The lawsuit, Righthaven v. Wolf, is also notable for being the leading case among more than 50 that were filed in Colorado. Pending a motion to dismiss, the Colorado court stayed the remaining cases. With this ruling, the court has hopefully rung the death knell for the other remaining live cases in that district (joining the Nevada cases that have also been dismissed.)

The new chief executive of MediaNews Group, publisher of the Denver Post and 50 other newspapers, said it was a dumb idea for the nations second-largest newspaper chain to sign up with copyright troll Righthaven.
The Denver-based publishers year-long copyright infringement litigation deal with Righthaven is terminating at months end, said John Paton, who replaced Dean Singleton to lead the company on Wednesday.
"The other hijackers were not the men Wright escaped from prison with."
Which implies he wasn't the brains behind the hijacking. Wright probably got in through his membership in the Black Liberation Army (BLA). The BLA had ties with groups such as Weather Underground and Colombia's M-19.

How can the gov deny the joy firearms when there is an exploding epidemic of blindness in this country? Have a heart President Obama!
With the number of small businesses catering to the cannabis-needing population growing at a fast clip amid more relaxed marijuana laws, the medical-marijuana market could reach revenues of $1.7 billion this year, a figure that approaches sales of erectile-dysfunction drug V1@gr@ (which totaled about $1.9 billion), according to a report released Wednesday by See Change Strategy LLC, an independent financial analysis firm that eyes new and unique markets.
In five years, medicinal-marijuana sales could hit $8.9 billion, about half of what is reportedly the size of the illegal marijuana market, estimated at $18 billion, according to the report, which can be found at MedicalMarijuanaMarkets.com.
RThe report found that 24.8 million people are eligible to receive a recommendation that would allow them to purchase marijuana legally under state laws, and approximately 730,000 people actually do in the seven existing markets where medical marijuana is legal. Those states are: California, Colorado, Michigan, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico.

All y'all assholes thought that The State was gonna legalize all the opiates and not find a way to use it to take more freedom away from us.... well, guess what.
WHOA! That isn't just marijuana. A big list of prescription medicines are "federally controlled substances", available only through a doctor's prescription.

Ah yes... the over reaching and over bearing ATF. How was that Ruby Ridge incident for ya? How about Waco? Worked out so well, didn't they?
Pretentious fucksticks. The ATF, along with the DOE and the EPA would be on the top of my list of agencies to whack from the budget if I was president.
#7
I'm starting to think we should disband the ATF. Some elements can go into the Border Patrol, others can go into the unemployment line, a small handful can be in the prison cafeteria selling smokes.
#8
the ATF has NO credibility after their actions and deeds in O.F.F. Who the F do they thing they are. They are jack booted thugs is what they are. Miscreants, churls and footpads who knew they were doing wrong and went and did it anyway.

Let me take this one step further: we have moved into a period in our history where we may objectively regard anyone who works for the BATF as traitor. By which I mean, specifically, a betrayer of his country, its people, and its principles.

Just prior to this arrest he had been in court on state charges: According to court documents Lechner was arraigned on Sept. 13 in Chippewa County Circuit Court and charged with felony charges of false report of a felony, false pretenses and assaulting, resisting and obstructing a police officer.
In addition, Lechner has been charged with being a habitual offender.
"Under the U.S. code if you've got pending charges you can't possess explosives," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Maarten Vermaat.
[WTOP] A toilet reportedly went kaboom! Monday and injured a woman at the General Services Administration Building in D.C.
The D.C. Fire and EMS Department confirms a woman went to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
"The GSA National Capital Regional Office Building experienced a building mechanical incident, which we understand may have resulted in injuries," a GSA statement reads.
Channel 9 (WUSA) reports a memo made the rounds in the GSA building, warning people not to flush.
"Do NOT flush toilets or use any domestic water," Channel 9 quotes the memo as saying.
"Due to a mechanical failure, there is high air pressure in the domestic water system that resulted in damage to toilets ... There has been damage to flushed toilets that has resulted in injuries."

If the tsunami came to pass, D.C. would get that long overdue flushing. And few other places too, it would be shame that places that don't deserve it would also be affected.

In other news, the Obama administration announced a $100 billion grant for wave power generation to a consortium led by Louis Farrakhan.

Never mind DC, if that threatened tsunami broke right, everything between the seaboard and the Blue Ridge would get your "long overdue flushing", Secret Asian Man. Please don't ill-wish. ^_^
Frankly, I think they're exaggerating - it'd be enormous in the Canary Islands, but after two thousand miles for the wave to fan out & spread out - hell, I'm a liberal arts major, ask somebody who can do math in his head.
But that terrible Lituya Bay tsunami in Alaska back in the Fifties did a number on the local fjord, not the whole west coast, right?
I quote:
Underwater earthquakes or volcanic eruptions do not normally generate such large tsunamis, but landslides next to bodies of water resulting from earthquakes can, since they cause a massive amount of displacement. If the landslide or impact occurs in a limited body of water, as happened at the Vajont Dam (1963) and Lituya Bay (1958) then the water may be unable to disperse and one or more exceedingly large waves may result.
Emphasis on limited body of water.

Well the tsunami would only be 50 meters high by the time it got to America and would penetrate about 25 km inland. Since DC is protected by the eastern shore, it seems that our politicians would escape. As usual...

I'm not holding my breath on this one. It is just as likely that a wall of Mauna Loa could collapse, wiping out Honolulu 30 minutes later with a 30 meter high tsunami traveling 25km inland, according to Nat. Geographic.
The last time that happened was in 1975, and though the slump was just a few yards, after a 7.5 earthquake, it created a small tsunami and scared the poop out of everyone. Killed two people who were camping.
Ah, it was on the wrong side of the island to molest Oahu, the campers were killed on the southeast coast of the big island.

Mitch H. Funny that you should mention Lituya Bay in Alaska. I have flown over the bay many times in trips between Sitka and Anchorage. It is a beautiful bay, and a great anchorage for fishing boats. However, there is a catch. Earthquakes and massive landslides make it an exciting anchorage. Three fishing boats were anchored near the entrance. One boat was lost and the two other boats survived with the ride of their lives. Wiki article.

While there is evidence of two such major collapses in the Hawaiian islands, I gather it is far more likely that there is a major shelf collapse underwater, the equivalent of a massive landslide, caused by an earthquake.

Most of the End of the World scenarios in the media nowadays read like a bad Irwin Allen movie from the 1970s and 80s, you know, like Earthquake or the Towering Inferno?
[Dawn] At least three more people, including a student nurse, died of dengue fever on Monday while some 43 others, parliamentary sectary for education MPA Chaudhry Mumtaz Ahmad Jajja, among them, were said to be critical.
Reports said Saima Majeed, a fourth-year nursing student, was shifted to Services Hospital a couple of days ago. Saima was later shifted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital late on Sunday after she was declared critical. Ijaz of Sanda, 50, died of Dengue Shock Syndrome (DSS) at the SZH`s emergency department. The hospital administration has confirmed the two deaths.
Meanwhile, ...back at the pie fight, Bella opened her mouth at precisely the wrong moment... Muhammad Amjad, died at Jinnah Hospital of DSS complications. Hospital MS Dr Afzal Shaheen confirmed the death at the Medical Unit-III of the health facility.
Sources said that of 43 critically ill patients, 11 are admitted at Services Hospital, five at Lahore General Hospital and two at Mayo Hospital.
Allama Iqbal Medical College (AIMC) Principal Prof Javed Akram said some 25 people, diagnosed as dengue fever patients, were struggling for life at Jinnah Hospital alone. Of them, he said, PML-N MPA Mr Jajja had been kept in intensive care and his health was fast deteriorating.
A health department report said 368 new dengue fever cases were reported all over the province on Monday, including 342 in Lahore alone. The report said the total number of reported dengue cases has reached 10,583 in Punjab, including 9,490 in Lahore.

Interesting. I was not aware of dengue fever being fatal, just painful. However, a little googling suggests a more severe version of the disease, dengue hemorrhagic fever, results when the victim is infected with a different type of dengue fever virus.
#4
SteveS: Typically, dengue is "silent" in about 80% of cases, but in the other 20% it could become dengue fever, dengue shock syndrome, or the godawful hemorrhagic form, which acts much like ebola.
the first time a person gets dengue fever, they are just royally messed up for about three weeks, with the oddest symptoms, including every joint in their body hurting, edema, whole body rash, and mental instability.
But then they get better. Yet for unknown reasons, with a second infection, that might also be silent at first, it could turn into the hemorrhagic form, and they are in deep trouble.
The student nurse got the still deadly intermediate form of dengue shock syndrome, which like toxic shock syndrome is from bacterial toxins, but it is caused as a secondary effect, with GI bleeding caused by the dengue virus permitting a bacterial infection to kill the patient.

Either the YesMen have infiltrated Italy's biggest, and most undercapitalied, bank, or the stress of constant, repeated lying and prevarication has finally gotten to the very people who know their livelihoods hang by a thread, and the second the great ponzi is unwound their jobs, careers, and entire way of life will be gone. Such as the head of UniCredit global securities Attila Szalay-Berzeviczy, and former Chairman of the Hungarian stock exchange, who has written an unbelievable oped in the Hungarian portal Index.hu which, frankly, make Alessio "BBC Trader" Rastani's provocative speech seem like a bedtime story. Only this time one can't scapegoat Szalay-Berzeviczy "naivete" on inexperience or the desire to gain public prominence.
If someone knows the truth, it is the guy at the top of UniCredit, which we expect to promptly trade limit down once we hit print. Among the stunning allegations (stunning in that an actual banker dares to tell the truth) are the following: "the euro is "practically dead" and Europe faces a financial earthquake from a Greek default"... "The euro is beyond rescue"... "The only remaining question is how many days the hopeless rearguard action of European governments and the European Central Bank can keep up Greece's spirits."...."A Greek default will trigger an immediate "magnitude 10" earthquake across Europe."..."Holders of Greek government bonds will have to write off their entire investment, the southern European nation will stop paying salaries and pensions and automated teller machines in the country will empty "within minutes."
Its one scenario among many, one which may lead to the breakup of the euro area via a banking crisis, he said in the interview. This can still be averted. It primarily depends on the Germans, and secondly on European citizens, especially on how much the Greek population can tolerate.

European Conservative Hello! The German response would be something like NO WAY JOSE!. Germany is on the hook now for 69 billion in Greek debt. Germany is on the hook now with Spain for 244 billion. Worldwide for Greece alone its 277 billion. Its the derivatives again but worse. Yes, our numbers look bad as well. Either we duck and cover or tuck and roll.Depends brief possibly.
#4
The euro SHOULD break up for the sake of Germans, Greeks and every other people previously forced to use this disastrous political shambles of a currency.
#5
The Euro may very well break up in the future but certainly not the way this scenario predicts.
A Greek default will not trigger much. It's widely expected anyway.

European Conservative Hello again. What a massive right off for so many(Tax payers?). Banks will have to be backed up because of exposure. Some will get their money back but only a small fraction. Most is a loss.
No world power is immune to this. My two cents.

Dale thank you.
Don't get me wrong, the banks will continue to rob us of our money and the EU will grab the opportunity to rob us of our democratic rights.

A further explanation:
This guy is a banker. And currently banks are doing everything they can to scare politicians into upping the amount of taxpayer's money to save their asses.
That's why you hear the meme: If Greece fails, Europe fails.
Oh, they still want to buy Italian, Portuguese, Spanish bonds. They want the high interests, but not the risks associated with it.
Btw Unicredit is the Italian bank that took Duffy's money. Lots of it.

[An Nahar] A Turkish exploration ship is searching for gas and oil "close to" a Cypriot drilling zone off the divided Mediterranean island of Cyprus, a senior energy ministry official said Tuesday.
"Our ship is exploring gas close to the Greek Cypriot zone, and under the escort of Turkish naval vessels," the official told Agence La Belle France Presse, speaking on condition of anonymity ... for fear of being murdered... The Turkish ship Piri Reis, which embarked on its controversial mission last week, started its research on Monday under military protection in the eastern Mediterranean. The official declined to say how long the ship would be staying in that zone.
Regional tensions have been rising after the Cyprus government, recognized internationally, but not by Turkey, made a deal with U.S. energy firm Noble, which has already started exploratory drilling for gas off the southern coast of the divided island.
In retaliation, Turkey dispatched its own exploration ship to the region after signing an accord with the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a statelet only recognized by Ankara, for gas search in the designated areas off the island.

Lets sink it and blame it on the Ruskies---before they sink it, and blame it on us (Israel).
[Human Events] A new Zogby poll puts Herman Cain at the top of the Republican field, as the top choice of 28% of poll respondents. (IBOPE Zogby International says the polling sample consists of "all likely voters and of likely Republican primary voters.") At this point my ideal Publican ticket would be Herman for prez, Newt as VP.
Rounding out the top three are Rick Perry at 18%, and Mitt Romney at 17%. Fourth place goes to Ron Paul at 11%. Paul's the most solid performer in Zogby's polling history for the 2012 GOP race -- his 11% might as well be chiseled in stone.
Interestingly, this poll was conducted after the Orlando GOP debate, but before Cain won the Florida straw poll. It's a huge surge for Cain, who was polling at 12% just two weeks previously, and was floating at a campaign low of 8% two weeks before that. Aside from that bitter 8% number, Cain has generally done quite well in the Zogby poll, usually good enough for second or third place.
On the other hand, Rick Perry's numbers in the Zogby poll have cratered, falling 19% in just two weeks. His debut last month was also his high-water mark thus far, when Zogby had him at 41%.
Michelle Bachmann has also been slipping steadily, chugging in at 4%. That puts her just below Jon Huntsman, which is the same way she finished the Florida straw poll. Bachmann was actually the leading candidate in Zogby's polling from June 21 through July 25... then she plunged to 9% in the next poll and continued sliding down from there.
Romney's been holding fairly steady in the Zogby poll. He bounces a few points up and down, but seems to hover in the 15-17% range.

[Dawn] Gunmen rubbed out a mother and daughter in broad daylight in an upmarket neighbourhood of the Pak capital on Tuesday after the mother filed for divorce from her husband, police said.
Najma Bibi, 40, was returning by car from the Islamabad courts where she was seeking a divorce, when she was rubbed out along with her 18-year-old daughter Sidra and a man Nazeer, 28, whose relationship to the two women was unclear.
"It is a matter of personal enmity. The woman was fighting a divorce case against her husband and we assume that he managed to kill them," said police investigator Jamshed Khan.
"We are yet to obtain further information about the gunnies. A witness told us they were speaking Punjabi but we don't have more details," he said.
While Pakistain suffers appalling statistics on crimes against women, such attacks in broad daylight in the capital are rare.
Almost 1,500 women were murdered in Pakistain last year, according to the Aurat Foundation, a local organization working to protect women.
Another 500 were the victims of "honour killings", in which relatives and other fellow rustics kill a woman if they believe she had an affair.

A school in Thailand has apologized after students dressed up as Nazis for a sports day parade.
Students at Sacred Heart College, a Catholic school in the northern city of Chiang Mai, carried red banners adorned with swastikas, wore Nazi uniforms, and gave "Sieg Heil" salutes, while some had swastikas painted on their faces.
School officials said that students had organized the parade themselves, and it was not intended to cause offense.
"The school officially explained that it was an internal sports day and students who were in the red team wanted to give a surprise by using swastikas as the background since it's the color red," said Charnwit Tupsuphan, secretary of the Private Education Commission, a government body.
"Both students and the school expressed their regret and apologized," he added. "I've instructed all schools to be more careful about this kind of issue and to use it as a lesson."
The Israeli embassy in Thailand said it had received a letter of apology after contacting the school.
Itzhak Shoham, the Israeli ambassador to Thailand, told AFP that he thought the Nazi parade took place "out of ignorance, not out of bad intentions," adding that "many people here in Asia are not aware of what happened in Europe."
Cooper noted that a similar parade took place in 2007 at a school in Bangkok.
