Major Explosion in Youngsville Area of Verot School Rd & State Hwy 92. Lafayette police say it was a compressor that exploded at Texas Gas Company. The blast blew the roof off the structure it was in, which now has about 50% roof damage. There is a safety mechanism on the machine which prevented gas from leaking out, according to the Sheriff's Department. There are no injuries and no evacuations. According to witnesses, There was a grass fire as big as an acre at one point, but that has been put out as well. The sky was glowing red immediately following the explosion. The hiss from the natural gas plant was deafening, but the sound has stopped at this time. No word on the status of the plant. LA 339 Road is shut down to one lane so they can move first responders in and out of the area quickly. I wonder what pipeline this is on - could be chilly for some Yankees for a while.

The explosion shook my house & REALLY scared the crap out of me. It sounded like a tornado was coming...so I ran & woke my boyfriend up & when we went outside,the flames were higher than the tree tops.Then it just stopped. We were soooo confused on what had just happened.We're relieved that no one was hurt.

Disclaimer: I am not in the pipeline business...
But just my gut feeling, I doubt this is a really major pipeline or anything like that, and I doubt it will have any impact on the market or the supply situation in the NE.
I think the major natural gas pipelines going from Vermillion Bay to further inland are further west, but don't quote me on that. There's a big compressor station south of Abbeville, and I think the pipelines go NW and then N from there.
[Bangla Daily Star] A mother and her two children were killed in an attack by a herd of wild elephants at Natun Chakpara village in Naikkhangchhari upazila of Bandarban early Thursday.
The deceased were Sajeda Begum, 42, wife of Abul Kashem and her two daughters -- Kohinur Akhter, 10, and six-year-old Rozina Akhter.
Abul Kashem, who sustained injuries during the attack, was admitted to the upazila health complex.
Police said quoting locals the wild elephants came to the locality in search of food around 3:00am and attacked the house of Abul Kashem and trampled Sajeda and her two children to death.

[Pak Daily Times] Around seven people were killed while several others were maimed in various fog-related incidents in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, ... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central... a private TV channel reported on Thursday. According to sources, 10 vehicles collided with one another near the Ravi Toll Plaza owing to dense fog, as a result of which a truck driver was killed and four others were maimed. In another incident, a motorist was killed in a head-on collision with a truck at the Multan Road. Dense fog has disrupted road traffic in various parts of Punjab. The Met department has predicted that the fog would continue for another few days. Low visibility on Thursday made it difficult for commuters to reach their offices, businesses and schools. Separately, a truck collided with a rickshaw in Kala Shah Kaku due to low visibility, killing the rickshaw driver on the spot, the channel reported. Also, 35 vehicles collided with each other at the Babu Sabu Interchange due to thick fog and careless driving.

The report to the UN Human Rights Council came as Ivorian strongman Laurent Gbagbo came under mounting pressure from world powers to step down.
UN staff have been able to confirm allegations of 173 killings and 90 cases of torture or ill treatment in Ivory Coast in the past week, UN deputy human rights chief Kyung-wha Kang told ambassadors in Geneva.
'Unfortunately it has been impossible to investigate all the allegations of serious human rights violations, including reports of mass graves, due to restrictions on movement by UN personnel,' she added.
The report came as world powers turned the screw on the stubborn leader, demanding that Gbagbo step aside in favour of Alassane Ouattara, whom UN members have recognised as the winner of last month's Ivorian election.

[Pak Daily Times] A top opposition figure has called for the international community to use force to oust Laurent Gbagbo from the presidency after the disputed election, as La Belle France urged its citizens to get out amid growing fears of civil war.
The United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society and other world leaders recognize Alassane Ouattara as the winner of the Nov 28 runoff vote. His prime minister, Guillaume Soro, urged the UN, European Union, African Union and others to consider intervening to push Gbagbo out. 'It is obvious that there is one solution left - that of force,' Guillaume Soro told La Belle France's i-tele television channel Wednesday. He added that '200 people have been killed by the bullets of Liberian and Angolan mercenaries' in Ivory Coast but he did not elaborate and the numbers could not immediately be confirmed.
The UN said Sunday that at least 50 people have been killed in Ivory Coast in recent days, and the UN chief also has expressed concern about the recruitment of fighters from neighbouring Liberia. Still, there appears to be little international interest in a military intervention in Ivory Coast. The United States and the EU are imposing sanctions targeting Gbagbo, his wife and political allies. Hundreds of UN peacekeepers have been protecting the hotel where Ouattara is based. Over the weekend, Gbagbo ordered all UN peacekeepers out of the country immediately in an escalation of tensions. The UN considers Ouattara president and is staying put, raising fears that UN personnel and other foreigners could be targeted in violence as tensions mount.

[El Universal] The rules of the game in the gas sector may change considerably in the model of development of hydrocarbons if the Organic Law of Gas Hydrocarbons is passed. This bill is being examined by the Executive Office and could impose State's control in gas development.
According to one of the articles of the bill drafted by the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, "activities referred to exploration and production of gas hydrocarbons, as well as processing, storage, transport, industrialization, marketing and exports may be carried out directly by the State, by state agencies or by joint ventures with State majority."
This provision, although does not elaborate on the proportion of state shareholding, would imply a change in the current development model.
Currently, the participation of the country in the production phase reaches up to 35 percent. The new model would be changed by a joint venture model and would "put aside" the production licensing scheme (as stated by the Executive Office), including exclusive shareholding in exploration ventures.
However, The infamous However... the draft law states in one of its transitory provisions that "the scheme of licenses granted until the effective date of the current law remains unchanged."

It is quite clear that he would escalate the anti-DPRK campaign in Congress and political arena.

What's the rate in the US? I wouldn't be surprised if it's similar. It's certainly higher if you include the school lunch program. And it includes Mohammed, Juan, LaKeesha and Dawn (but not Li.)

It used to be that every mother got a government stipend for the child's first three years. Mr. Wife had to explain why, as a non-citizen and temporary resident, I should not get the same stipend when trailing daughter #2 was born. Some of it may be that.
President Barack Obama came into office over two years ago with a negative perception of missile defense and intent on reducing missile defense. Halfway through his term and in the midst of the ratification process the he has made the strongest statements by any U.S. President ever in support of missile defense while maintaining close to a $10 billion a year budget for missile defense. Of course, this guy is big on missile defense, and doesn't care much about missile offense. I'd rather have both.

Mr Ellison was persuaded by letters, promises and statements made by Prez Obama regarding missile defense.
Given the Obama's history of disregarding his own promises, etc., I think Ellison will be disappointed at some point in the future. In addition, the legal value of these letters, etc. is pretty close to zero. Once a treaty is ratified, it takes on a life of its own.

As far as I can tell, the objections to START were not over the strategic nuclear warhead reductions - the nominal topic of the treaty - but over language in the preamble that could be used to prevent missile defense work. I'm not real concerned about a nuclear war with Russia at the moment, but I AM concerned about being able to have a chance to stop that single missile from (directly or indirectly) Korea or Iran.
Murkowski is already showing a fierce independent streak, becoming the only Republican to cast votes on all four items on President Barack Obama's wish list: a repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," a tax-cut compromise, the START deal and cloture for the DREAM Act. The count down has started for the launch of Indias latest communication satellite GSAT-5P on board GSLV-F06 launch vehicle from Sriharikota on Saturday.
GSAT-5P with 24 C-band transponders and 12 extended C-band transponders is meant for augmenting communication services currently provided by Indian National Satellite System (INSAT). It is meant to boost TV, telemedicine and tele-education, and telephone services.

Trinitramid is the name of the new molecule that may be a component in future rocket fuel. This fuel could be 20 to 30 percent more efficient in comparison with the best rocket fuels available today, according to researchers. Turned into a practical rocket fuel, this could create an industrial revolution for the private space industry, and open up the inner solar system.
Asteroid 433 Eros is only 105 million miles from Earth at perihelion, and its orbit is just a little less than two years. We've already landed a probe on it. And it has far more precious metals (like platinum group) in it than the entire crust of the Earth. Not bad for only being 21 miles x 7 x 7 in size.
We would be more than happy to land a robot ship on it to mine and concentrate ore into a big ball of mixed metal, then use the spin of 433 Eros to "throw" it vaguely in the direction of Earth. Moved into orbit, we could then carve off pieces of it to carry down to the surface.
Rhodium is $2500/oz. Platinum is $1730/oz. Ruthenium about $1500/oz. And the other platinum groups are all about $750/oz. On Earth, a high grade platinum mine has 3 ppm concentration, and that is rare.
