"After being inadvertently hit with an opposing player's elbow in the lip while playing basketball with friends and family, the president received 12 stitches today administered by the White House Medical Unit," spokesman Robert Gibbs in a statement.
The president played basketball for about two hours at a gym at Fort McNair in Washington.
Medical authorities used "a smaller filament which increases the number of stitches but makes a tighter stitch," resulting in "a smaller scar".
Mr Obama was given local anaesthetic when he received the treatment, Mr Gibbs said.
Mr Gibbs did not release the names of the people playing with the president.

Is there any chance this will keep this jackass off my TV screen for the next few days? I'm so tired of seeing his every single day.....
Most over exposed President in history, and their solution to all his problems seems to come back to showing us more of him......
I actually either mute the story or change the channel whenever I see this dipshit....

Aw, that was just pitiful. What ever happened to the good trolls? Sure they were eventually annoying, but at least they could put a sentence together and occasionally make a coherent argument. Is this another thing to blame on the teacher's unions?
The guy who did this will definitely sell a lot of books if he wants.
WASHINGTON President Barack Obama needed 12 stitches in his lip after taking an errant elbow during a pickup basketball game Friday with a group of family and friends visiting for the Thanksgiving holiday, the White House said.
Press secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement that Obama was inadvertently struck by an elbow. The elbow's owner wasn't identified.
Obama received the stitches under local anesthesia in the doctor's office on the ground floor White House after he returned home.
The president had traveled to nearby Fort McNair to indulge in one of his favorite athletic pursuits, basketball. It was a five-on-five contest involving family and friends and including Reggie Love, Obama's personal assistant who played at Duke University.
Obama emerged from the building after about 90 minutes of play, wearing short-sleeve T-shirt and gym pants, and was seen dabbing at his mouth with what appeared to be a wad of gauze. A few hours later, reporters who had gathered on the White House driveway for the arrival of the Christmas Tree saw the president in an upstairs window, pressing something white against his mouth.
(KUNA) -- US President Barack Obama on Thursday called for bipartisan cooperation from US lawmakers on economic recovery and US military efforts abroad. "Bipartisan" means he gets his way.
"We come together and do what's required to make tomorrow better than today. That's who we are. That means supporting the nation's soldiers and working together to help spur faster economic recovery from the recession," he said in a weekly national address marking the annual Thanksgiving holiday.
"We won't do it as any one political party. We've got to do it as one people. And in the coming weeks and months, I hope that we can work together, Democrats and Republicans and Independents alike, to make progress on these and other issues." Refering to an earlier meeting with congressional leaders from both parties, Obama said it was time for "a real and honest discussion, because I believe that if we stop talking at one another and start talking with one another, we can get a lot done."

Whatever presumption of good faith Mr. Obama had upon becoming President has been destroyed by his actions and the actions of his party. Socializing US health care using deem-and-pass is not a great way to build trust with the electorate.

Bambi's call begs for a response, but I don't think that "you first, you lying, treasonous Marxist crapweasel" would fill enough column space in the WaPo...

The Great Flip-Flop: from "We won, get over it." to "I hope that we can work together."

I agree with all the comments. The problem is he has no intention of changing. When he first ran I said if he won he would be in for eight years. The infamous Rino's now will undercut everything the people have voted for. The will of the people means nothing to this group in Washington or the media. Impeach and recall are the only things we can do now to stop this train wreck. The world economy is on the verge of default. You can't drag down a powerhouse of consumerism like the USA and expect nothing to happen elsewhere.
