[Arab News] Republicans attacked President Barack Obama on Sunday for his comments on a controversial plan to build a mosque in New York, saying he was "disconnected" from the nation in an election year. The pious statement that everybody enjoys the same religious freedom doesn't address with wisdom or the good taste of building a mosque near the site of Islamic aggression against Americans.
Obama waded into the debate on Friday when he appeared to offer his backing for the mosque to be built two blocks from the "Ground Zero" site of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York City. On Saturday, seeking to clarify his position, Obama said he supported the right of Muslims to build the center but would not comment on the "wisdom" of deciding its location in Lower Manhattan. This is a position known in political circles as "wishy washy."
Prominent Republicans have opposed the proposed site of the center, saying it was insensitive and reopened the wounds of the attacks. If the U.S. was an Islamic country we'd be rioting in the streets and holding up signs saying to "Behead those who insult 9-11."
On Sunday, several criticized Obama for what they said was his support of the center's construction and subsequent waffling on the issue. "This is not about freedom of religion because we all respect the right of anyone to worship according to the dictates of their conscience ... but I do think it's unwise to build a mosque at the site where 3,000 Americans lost their lives as the result of a terrorist attack," Texas Republican John Cornyn said on the "Fox News Sunday" program. "To me it demonstrates that Washington, the White House, the administration, the President himself seems to be disconnected from the mainstream of America," Cornyn said.
Peter King, a Republican congressman from New York who opposes the location of the mosque, told CNN's "State of the Union" program that Obama clearly gave the impression he supported its construction but then backed off the next day. "If the President was going to get into this, he should have been much more clear, much more precise and he can't be changing his decision from day to day on an issue which does go to our Constitution..."
Obama's remarks put him in the middle of a heated political debate months before November elections, which are expected to result in big losses for Obama's Democrats and a potential power shift in Congress in favor of Republicans.

'I grant you that he's not two-faced,' I said.'But what's the use of that when the one face he has got is so peculiarly unpleasant?'

Along with freedom comes responsibility and fair play.
When the Saudis allow Christians to build a cathedral a short distance from Mecca than I would be glad to reciprocate.
I want a muslin to look me in the eye and say that they are being treated worse in America than Christians and Jews in Saudi Arabia.

Let me add, turnabout is fair play.

Clue for Barry: what do you think of, say, a Confederate History Museum across the street from where Martin Luther King was assassinated? How 'bout a Japanese Shinto shrine at Pearl Harbor?
Step down and let a grownup run this country, you stupid f***.
"Brilliant", my arse. This man is a complete fraud, the biggest BS artist in a nation and an era that has produced world class con men (think of Madoff, Alen Stanford, the Enron boys et al).
Barry's trajectory recalls the Andy Griffith lowlife character in the 1950s film, "Faces in the Crowd."

gorb, he knows what his subjects want and don't want, he just doesn't give a rip and proceeds with his own agenda. Obama continues to tromple all over what defines America. My BP meds will have to continue throughout his term.

The Mosque is Islams east coast beachhead in its war on America.

Along with Obama pulling the border patrol off of some areas of the Meican border for illegals of all types we now have a three front war, Islamic radicals attacking places like Fort Hood, illegal immigration, the Democrats on capital hill allowing it all.

Even Harry Reid is distancing himself from Barry O's remarks. I suspect that somewhere in the bowels of the Executive, some trembling staffer is fretting, "My God, if we've lost Harry Reid, we've lost Middle America."

First the the treasoness person would have to recognize that it was Islamic aggression. They don't even allow the word Jihad in their intelligence reports any more.
The issue of Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement could become a weighty issue with employees at Ohio Valley Medical Center and East Ohio Regional Hospital.
The employees were informed by letter this week of a proposal currently before the Health Care Reform Bill Commission. Just another "little noticed" provision in Obamacare ...
That proposal would cut Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement to hospitals where more than 5 percent of hospital employees are found to be 25 percent heavier than generally accepted height and weight guidelines.
Employees would have three years to lose extra weight before such a measure would take effect.
The proposal has yet to be officially drafted into any kind of law. Time for torches and pitchforks yet?

And, just asking... where in the Constitution did the Fed Government get the ability to regulate people's weights or else lose their job (which is the net effect of this)

You know its that goddamned BMI index from 1951 when people were about half the size they are now. I have had many a throwdown over the BMI, I'm a weight lifter with a very large frame, and yes some fat, but the BMI has me listed as OBESE. And I'll be damned if I'll stand there and let some limp wristed little MD who's never lifted a weight in his life tell me I'm obese when I'm mildly overweight at worst.

bigjim-CA: I couldn't agree more. According to the BMI I am borderline obese. I too do weights, as well as karate, and train at least 10 hrs a week. Sure, I could loose a little belly fat but according to the BMI people I need to loose 30 lbs and could loose more than 50 and still be in the 'normal' range.

Dittos, gentlemen. My MD was shocked at how heavy I am but then I have been weight lifting since my early twenties and long distance cycling for longer. I do need to lose about 10-15 pounds of fat around the middle but if I lost the 50 the BMI wants I would look like a concentration camp survivor.
All I can say in defense of this initiative is that, having worked in a teaching hospital for some time, the admin, support and nursing staff were often spherical. In the old days they would have said "matronly".
Yes. Lose your funding for having 'fat' employees, then get sued for firing them (or not hiring 'fat' people in the first place).
This reeks of government think. Make whatever silly rules you want and let the peons sort out the details. These people would repeal the law of gravity, then fine you for being unlawfully attracted to the planet earth. And it would never even occur to them that this might be a problem.

Those who work at Hospitals must now keep silent on this current administration and any problems they may have with their Hospital. The threat of termination is a very real consequence of speaking openly of current events. The source does not wish to be named of course.

Thanks man,
I'm actually getting an offer from the FFA this week, I was blowing my top the other day because another federal HR person found it more fashionable to hire a minority candidate over me. I don't begrudge her the job, but I doubt a 24 year old chinese girl has more project management experience in heavy construction projects than I do.
That's a hot tip on the welding job though, hard to believe they can't find welders in Indiana, seemed like there were about a million of them in the union when I broke out. Times they do change!

What's the link between medicare and medicaid and overweight hospital employees?
How bout while your at it cut entitlements and benefits for overweight congresscritters, politicians, and bureaucrats? Better yet, the voters can cut out the dead wood in November 2010 and 2012.
Profiles in Courage, part 247.
Adding to the political problem for Democrats were the mixed messages out of the White House. Message seems pretty clear to me: I am the American Arafat, a weasel who speaks in one voice to the berserkers of the muslim world and in another, opposite voice to the American public.
Obama's comments Friday night -- at an Iftar dinner at the White House marking the start of Ramadan -- were widely reported as offering support for the specific mosque project in question near ground zero.
But on Saturday, Obama seemed to contradict himself, telling reporters at one point, "I was not commenting and I will not comment on the wisdom of making the decision to put a mosque there." He is large, he contains multitudes. He makes the seas recede and stomachs churn. He is The One, the maker of cringes.

Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Zahar said Muslims 'have to build everywhere' so that followers can pray, just like Christians and Jews build their places of worship.
Except that Hamas has been deemed a terrorist group and Hamas is also islamic in their beliefs. Islam is antithetical to our culture and country: 1. they do not distinguish between religion and state, 2. ...there is abundant scriptural compulsion toward and approbation of, terrorism, beheadings, limb-severing, stoning, slavery, etc. (Andrew McCarthy, "The Grand Jihad: How Islam and the Left Sabotage America" Prosecuted the blind sheik for the 1993 WTC bombings), accepts lying in the name of the religion, is subversive and devious in its attempts to implant sharia law in other countries.
