-Lurid Crime Tales-
Iran: Online newspaper says 100s of slain protesters are in morgues
I have always thought the violence reported in Iran was too great for only 20 dead:
The on-line Farsi-language newspaper, Nooroz, reports that hundreds of unidentified dead bodies are being held in Tehran's morgues. One of the few official organs providing information on the detainees is the office of unidentified dead persons, which has summoned some families to various morgues around the city to determine whether their loved ones are among the dead. Nooroz newspaper reports that those families, who find their sons or daughters among the countless corpses, are threatened and pressured into signing statements attesting that their family members died in car crashes or as a result of other ordinary, run of the mill accidents. Unless the families sign these statements, the cherished bodies of their loved ones are withheld from them.

One person who reportedly visited the morgue in south-west Tehran [which in the past had been used only for the storage of fruits and dairy products]reports to Nooroz that she was presented with an album containing hundreds of pictures of the dead and was told to try and find her child among these images. This woman reports that, as she was leaving the morgue, she saw hundreds of dead bodies piled on top of one another.

Yesterday we also received news from one of our readers that the mother of Sohrab Arabi, the ninteen year old student whose mysterious death in connection with the Tehran protests recently made international headlines, was also asked to identify her son from amongst some sixty pictures of nameless corpses.

Top Drudge Story: Soldier - Obama Cannot Send Me To War

#2  Why can't the guy jsut produce the birth certificate and end all this stuff? I think Obama gets more political hay out of it by pulling the extreme edge out of the woodwork in order to tar anyone who opposes him. I certainly hope its not for the reasons some say; talk about a constitutional crisis... Honduras here we come.

#4  Hey, Army culture dictates the rules down to the length you wear your fingernails. You think people with those exacting standards would summarily forgive a possibly bunk birth certificate? I sure don't---- as ca-ra-zy as this soldier sounds, he is making his point. More power to him.

#6  I suspect that the Maj is 18 or 19 years in service, and they announced he is going to be RIF'ed, screwing him out of his retirement. You know that kind of crap happens all the time, by penny ante Pentagon bureaucrats.

So, he figures to create a controversy, and get his file flagged, then once he makes his 20 to bow out gracefully and take his retirement.

Sorry to burst your bubble Moose, but by law if the date of separation falls upon or after their day which completes 18th year of service, they're keepers till they hit 20 and retirement unless they're removed from service for cause [as in courts martial]. #19  The birth certificate at snopes.com is not the format used by Hawaii at the time of Obama's birth. The fonts were not even created at that time. The governor of Hawaii sealed the certificate during the campaign so no one would be able to access the document. This confirms it was never released and the snopes document is a fraud.
Posted by: Herb Jolunter7901 || 07/14/2009 16:58 Comments || Top||

#20  Oh, please, Herb! I had to apply for a dupe of my birth certificate from the state of Arizona, since I lost my original. The dupe was a computer printout summary of the original handwritten/typed late 60's document (the original had a lot more info on it than my current one does).

I guess that makes me a noncitizen too, eh? Thanks for clearing that up.....
Posted by: Cornsilk Blondie || 07/14/2009 17:04 Comments || Top||

#21  Enough with the nonsense about Obama's BC.

He's an American citizen. He was born in Hawaii. His mother was an American.

The BC presented in public is on the correct form used these days for electronically-prepared BCs in that state. I was born in Washington DC, and my most recent request for a BC generated one that looks very similar to his.

BCs are generally sealed precisely to keep snoops from poking around. That's as it should be.

I don't particularly like Barack Obama. I'm not happy he was elected president. But he's our president, and he's an American citizen. Enough already.

#22  Zombie of Zombietime fame has come up with an interesting hypothesis for why the Zero will not release the original 1961 document: Zombie thinks it might indicate "race" as "white." In the context of the time, this might have been considered helpful to the little guy, and it was a 50/50 choice either way.

#27  Steve White answered why an original be sealed. But if you want occupy the highest office in the land, there is no excuse adequate for not providing a copy of an ORIGINAL document to the electorate. There is nothing wrong with a birth certificate indicating "white". Maybe the document not only says "white" but it also may say "Barry" and not "Barack". Maybe the document lists another man as the "father".
Posted by: Herb Jolunter7901 || 07/14/2009 17:40 Comments || Top||

#28  ... whatever the reason, the ORIGINAL is not to be made public per the campaign because information there would be cosidered harmfull to electing the candidate to the office. THAT is sufficient cause to demand that information be made public and to allow the public make the call. Not the campaign.
Posted by: Herb Jolunter7901 || 07/14/2009 18:05 Comments || Top||

#29  Herb, enough with this, ok? It has been answered, repeatedly.

(Besides everyone already knows that his real father is Darth Vader, he weighed 20 lbs at birth, and had a vestigial twin attached to his right big toe. Duh!)

BTW, if you think it is so damn easy to get an "original" birth certificate from most jurisdictions.....try it sometime. Really. I was told point blank that I wouldn't be able to get an original copy of my own birth certificate, since all the records had been converted to computer documents. The original doesn't exist.

I couldn't even get one after my own son was born in Florida. They coulda cared less that I was his mama. All they would give me was the abstract, and funny enough, it's been good enough everywhere we have needed to present it.

#30  "BTW, if you think it is so damn easy to get an "original" birth certificate from most jurisdictions.....try it sometime." Got mine in two days. If I wanted a copy of the Original, I could go to the county records building to get a copy of the original. Something Obama could have done during his Christmas holiday in Hawaii this past December.

Gunmen seize two French agents in Mogadishu
Gunmen stormed into a hotel in the Somali capital on Tuesday morning and kidnapped two French men who were working for the military, officials said. The manager of the Sahafi Hotel in Mogadishu said the men had registered as reporters, but a senior Somali government official said they were in Somalia to train government soldiers. A Western security official also confirmed they worked for the military. Both spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

They were abducted after about 10 gunmen arrived at the hotel in a small car and a pickup truck mounted with machine guns and disarmed the hotel guards, said Abdi Mohamed Ahmed, who owns a teashop in front of the hotel. The manager, Mohamed Hassan Gafaa, said several gunmen went door-to-door inside the hotel until they found the foreign men, whom he did not identify. "The gunmen then sped away with their hostages," Ahmed told The Associated Press. Police said they found one of the kidnappers' cars several hours after the kidnapping.

The French embassy in Nairobi had no immediate comment.

2 shot dead in Xinjiang
Chinese police shot dead two people on Monday in renewed unrest in the far northwestern region of Xinjiang, state media said, after at least 184 people died in riots last week.

The official Xinhua news agency said the two people killed in the regional capital Urumqi were Uighur. Police were trying to stop them attacking another Uighur when the security forces opened fire, the report said. Another Uighur was injured. "An initial investigation found that the three people were attacking the fourth person with clubs and knives at 2:55 pm near the People's Hospital at Jiefang Nanlu," Xinhua said. "Police on patrol fired warning shots before shooting at the three suspects."

Of the official death toll from the July 5 riots, 137 were Han Chinese, who form the majority of China's 1.3 billion population, and 46 were Uighur, a Muslim people native to Xinjiang and culturally tied to Central Asia and Turkey. Uighurs attacked Han Chinese in Urumqi that day after police tried to break up a protest against fatal attacks on Uighur workers at a factory in south China. Han Chinese in Urumqi launched revenge attacks later in the week. Zhou Yongkang, China's top security official, said that while the situation was improving, the government could not rest on its laurels. "Currently, various instability factors still exist and the task of maintaining stability is arduous," he was quoted as saying in Urumqi.

"The importance and urgency in ensuring Xinjiang social order should be fully learned, and the fight against separatism and terrorism in the region is a long-term and acute task." State media said earlier in the day that demonstrations against Chinese consulates in Europe and the United States showed that ethnic riots were orchestrated. Demonstrators threw eggs, Molotov cocktails and stones at several Chinese embassies and consulates, including in Ankara, Oslo, Munich and the Netherlands, Xinhua said.

"Supporters of the East Turkestan separatists started well-orchestrated and sometimes violent attacks on Chinese embassies and consulates in several countries soon after the riots occurred," Xinhua said, referring to the name given to their desert homeland by some Uighurs. "The attacks against China's diplomatic missions and the Urumqi riots seemed to be well-organised."

German-Pakistani Qaeda helper jailed for 8 years
BERLIN/KOBLENZ: A state court on Monday convicted a German man of Pakistani origin for helping to fund and supply Al Qaeda in the NWFP and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The 47-year-old, identified as Aleem Nasir, was convicted after an eight-month trial. He was arrested in February 2008 and charged with giving $38,000 as well as equipment such as night-vision goggles, binoculars, laser range finders, digital compasses and radios to the group.

The court in Koblenz found him guilty of belonging to a foreign terrorist organisation, distributing propaganda, receiving training at a Taliban camp and helping recruit volunteers for Pakistan.

Minnesota men charged in Somali recruiting
MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota (CNN) -- A federal grand jury has indicted two Minnesota men in connection with the recruitment of Somali immigrants to fight with Islamic insurgents in their home country.
Big Viking fans I'll bet...
Nah, hockey fans from their childhoods in the rinks of Mog ...
Salah Osman Ahmed and Abdifatah Yusuf Isse are charged with one count each of providing material support to terrorists and conspiracy to kill, kidnap, maim or injure people overseas, the indictment states. The recruiting effort took place between September 2007 and December 2008, according to the charges.

Ahmed also is charged with two counts of making false statements to investigators. According to the indictment, he told FBI agents that he had traveled alone on a flight to Somalia when, in fact, he and another person were going together "so that they could fight jihad in Somalia."

Ahmed, of the Minneapolis suburb of New Brighton, was arrested Saturday, FBI Special Agent E.K. Wilson said. It was not immediately clear whether Isse was in custody.

The FBI has been investigating what appears to be a massive recruiting effort by the al Qaeda-linked Somali insurgent group al-Shabaab in immigrant communities in the United States. More than a dozen young men of Somali descent have disappeared from the Minneapolis area in recent months, and at least three have been killed in Somalia, community leaders have said.

The latest, Jamal Bana, was confirmed dead over the weekend, his family said Sunday. The same day, Somalia's president -- a former member of the Islamist movement himself -- issued a plea to Somali-Americans not to join the fight in his country.

"I am saying to those young men from abroad: 'Your families fled your home to America because of insecurity. You should not return here to foment violence against your people,' " President Sheik Sharif Ahmed said.
Stay there and stiff the infidels on cab rides.
Al-Shabaab has ties to al Qaeda and has recruited foreign fighters to join its battle to overthrow the Somali government, U.S. officials said. It remains entrenched in the northeast and in sections south of Somalia's capital, Mogadishu, after fighting that has uprooted more than 200,000 people since early May, according to the United Nations.

Wilson said the number of missing men believed to be in Somalia is "in the 10s," but their recruitment is "a significant concern and one that we're giving our highest priority."

In October, Shirwa Ahmed, 27, a Somali-American believed to have been radicalized by al-Shabaab, traveled from Minneapolis to Somalia and blew up himself and 29 others. It was the first suicide bombing by a naturalized U.S. citizen, and it raised red flags throughout the U.S. intelligence community and sparked an investigation by the FBI.

Burhan Hassan, a 17-year-old Somali-American high school student in Minneapolis, went missing eight months ago, around the same time as Bana. Last month, his family learned that he was killed in Somalia.

Neither family has any idea why the young males left the United States, where they came as young boys, and Bana's family believes that he was being held against his will, said Omar Jamal, head of the Somali Justice Advocacy Center in Minneapolis.

"Only one time he placed a phone call [in mid-November], he didn't say much," Jamal said. "He spoke as if he was being held hostage. He couldn't be speak freely. They asked him to cut the conversation short."
C'mon Jamal. It's long distance...
Many of the missing Somali-Americans are believed to have left for Somalia when Ethiopian forces were still on the ground. Ethiopia invaded Somalia to push the Islamists out of Mogadishu in December 2006, but their presence in the country was an outrage to most Somalis and became a rallying cry for al-Shabaab.

Ethiopian troops left Somalia this year, leaving Ahmed's weak transitional government to battle the insurgents.

15 high-value terrorists held
Police arrested two high-profile terrorists in the federal capital, while security forces arrested 13 Al Qaeda terrorists in Balochistan on Monday. 'Top Taliban commanders killed, Fazlullah injured'
Several top commanders of the Taliban have been killed and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) leader Fazlullah was among those injured during the military operation in Swat and Malakand Division, said Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday.

"Our security forces have successfully contained the situation and targeted the extremist commanders. Most of the top commanders were killed and Fazalullah was injured," he told reporters after addressing a ceremony held by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) in connection with launching new initiatives such as the ITP FM radio channel. Discussing the situation in Swat, he said the enemies of Pakistan have been evicted from the area. However, he added, there were still some pockets of dissidents in the NWFP. "The cancer of terrorism has negatively affected both our economy and the law and order situation. Islamabad police have managed to arrest 31 people, including suicide bombers, handlers and planners, and averted six suicide attacks during the last six months. These bombers are in police custody," he added.

Coordinating efforts: Malik said the terrorists arrested by the police belonged to South Waziristan, adding some were from Buner and Rawalpindi. To questions, he said the Pakistan Army is working for Pakistan and there is strong coordination between the military establishment and the civilian government. He said the government was maintaining a close watch over the remnants of the Taliban in Swat to ensure no untoward incident occurs in the country. All four provincial governments are doing their best to foil terrorist activities, he said. He said conspiracies against Pakistan would not succeed due to the bravery and valour of the nation's armed forces and law enforcement agencies.

The interior minister said his ministry had launched a campaign against the spread of profane and provoking comments about the country's political leadership through email and SMS. He said they had already traced some elements responsible, adding it had been revealed that such emails were being sent through foreign countries.

Landmine blast kills colonel in Assam
Guwahati: An army colonel and his driver were killed by a landmine in the northeastern state of Assam yesterday, officials said. A defence spokesman said the army vehicle hit the mine near the Balipara reserve forests in Sonitpur district, 210km north of the state's main city Guwahati.

"The impact of the landmine was so severe that the vehicle blew up, killing the colonel and his driver on the spot," an army commander said. "The colonel was on his way to his base at Tenga in adjoining Arunachal Pradesh, bordering China, when the attack took place," the official said. Army and police teams have cordoned off the area and launched a hunt.

Police blame the outlawed National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for the attack. Police said militants in the restive state were trying to stage violent attacks ahead of India's Independence Day on August 15. The NDFB is a rebel group fighting for a separate homeland for the Bodo tribe in Assam since 1996, although it had agreed to a ceasefire with the Indian government since 2005.
State authorities have often accused the group of violating the truce and indulging in violence.

India's northeast, which shares borders with China, Myanmar and Bangladesh, is a volatile region where nearly 40 separatist, tribal or leftist groups are active in five states. More than 15,000 people have lost their lives to insurgency in the region in the past decade.

US ambassador to Iraq escapes blast
A roadside bomb exploded near a convoy carrying US ambassador to Baghdad Chris Hill in southern Iraq, but the envoy was unhurt, the US Embassy said on Monday. Hill was traveling in Dhi Qar province, about 300 km southeast of Baghdad, on Sunday when the bomb struck his convoy, US Embassy spokeswoman Susan Ziadeh said.

"No personnel were injured or hurt. An investigation into the incident is taking place," she said.

The American daily USA Today said its reporter was a few minutes behind Hill in a separate convoy at the time. "There was a bang and we went through a thick cloud of smoke," Hill said. "We are fine."

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Britain Slaps Partial Arms Embargo on Israel
Britain has imposed a partial arms embargo on Israel over the Gaza war, refusing to supply replacement parts for navy gunships used in the offensive, a newspaper reported.

"Britain's Foreign Office informed Israel's embassy in London of the sanctions a few days ago," the Haaretz newspaper said, adding that the embassy attributed the move to pressure from human rights groups and MPs.

The move came after the British government reviewed all 182 licences for arms exports to Israel and ultimately decided to cancel five, which cover spare parts for Saar 4.5 missile boats, Haaretz said.

By participating in the Gaza war, the boats "violated the security agreements between Britain and Israel, which specify what uses may be made of British equipment," Haaretz quoted the British directive as saying.

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman brushed off the sanctions, telling public radio: "We've had many embargoes in the past... We can manage. This shouldn't bother us."

#1  Next time these judeophobic scum justice loving Britons look---everybody who used to buy these parts from them, is buying them from IMI (better quality at lower price).

#2  Israel has been remiss for a long time in not countering the increasing attacks from the Euro-Antisemites. It amounts to "political intelligence" activities, that when some Euro politician rants against Israel, and likely rants pro-Paleo, that Israel should lend aid to their political opposition.

This is quickly noticed by the ranters, who except for complete fanatics, will quickly temper their words. In the US, this tactic has long been used both by AIPAC and the NRA.

For the fanatics, keep putting the pressure on, so that they have to fight harder and harder to keep their seat.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanon frees man jailed in diplomat's slaying
Lebanon on Monday freed a Palestinian who had served 15 years of a life sentence for the murder of a Jordanian diplomat after he was granted a presidential pardon amid appeals for clemency from human rights watchdogs.
I have it on good authority that they're gonna let the diplomat off from being dead, too.
Yussef Shaaban had been convicted of the 1994 murder in the heart of Beirut of embassy first secretary Naeb Omran al-Maatiyeh. Two Jordanians were also found guilty of the crime and executed in 2002 and 2003 respectively.

Dozens of Palestinians gave Shaaban a hero's welcome at his home in the Burj al-Barajneh refugee camp in south Beirut. Well-wishers carried the former prisoner on their shoulders and waved Lebanese and Palestinian flags, an AFP correspondent reported.
They just love their murderers.
