For crying-out-loud, we all emit CO2 when we exhale. Trees and plants love it. It is necessary for photosynthesis.
Puts me in mind of Gulliver's Travels where scientists of the day were trying to convert horeshit into sunshine (it might have been the other way around).

Get ready for your electricity rates to go sky high, for your gasoline prices to jump, for the job losses involved in shutting down industries, for a near total loss in domestic oil exploration (why bother) and for the economy to take another big whack.

This is insane. The man is intentionally crippling the country.

Another way to look at this is that it take 10,000 MBTUs to generate 1 MWh of electricity in a coal fired plant. Taking Powder River Basin coal as the baseline (40% of total US production). It takes $9.95 worth of coal (1.14 tons at $8.75/ton) to generate that electricity (30% efficiency).
Now that much coal 10,000 MBTUs will create 1-1.1 ton of CO2. Obama as a candidate had proposed a tax of $30/ton of CO2. So that $10 coal now becomes $40 coal w/ $30 being taken off the top by the government. Electricity that wholesaled for $30/MWh now sells for $60/MWh.
The 2 billion tons of coal produced each year now get a carbon tax of $60 billion. In addition, other low cost forms of electricity that compete w/ coal can now raise their prices, adding another $30 billion to consumers electric bills.
Quite the little scam for no productivity gain. Instead cost is added to everything produced in the US. I would say invest in nuke power stocks and reap a $30/MWh windfall, but the Marxists who now run the federal government will surely punitively tax that and restrict nuke power production too. Could invest in firewood, but the EPA will fine you to death and seize your house too.

RexHavoc, CO2 is also a major components of flatulence. So maybe Obama should put a tax on people who fart. (My wife would agree with that tax, probably.)

Actually there's a video of his colleague Richard Epstein from U.Chicago Law floating around in which Epstein notes that Obama does not believe that governmental action has any impact on the creation or destruction of wealth in the private sector. That is, Obama believes that the private sector will perform in an identical manner regardless of the actions government might take.

Just wait until Americans learn that the gas produced from brewing alcohol is CO2 and now there is more tax on not only ethanol, but their favorite drink as well.
A newly discovered species of lichen - a plant-like growth that looks like moss or a dry leaf - has been named after President Obama. I think a slime mold would have been more appropriate. Or a flesh wealth eating bacteria.
Kerry Knudsen, lichen curator of the University of California, Riverside Herbarium, discovered the species in 2007 while doing a survey for lichen diversity on Santa Rosa Island in California. "I named it Caloplaca obamae to show my appreciation for the president's support of science and science education," he said. "I made the final collections of C. obamae during the suspenseful final weeks of President Obama's campaign for the United States presidency."

Kerry. Get a girlfriend. And not a virtual one...
Osama became Obama for a few minutes for L K Advani at a press conference on Friday but an embarrassed BJP's prime ministerial candidate corrected himself in no time.
Reading out excerpts from the interim report of BJP's task force on black money, he mistakenly took the name of the US President instead of that of the international terror mastermind Osama Bin Laden.
"Illicit monies are the dirty outcome of modern capitalism. But after the 9/11 terror (attacks), the US realised that, not just the buccaneers in business but even Obama Bin Laden could also hide his funds in secret havens and use them to bomb the world," he said.
But within minutes, an aide passed on a chit to the BJP leader, after which he corrected himself, saying "I have been told that I have just made a mistake".

Well, he is not half wrong. The Big O and Congress have done more to destroy the US economy than OBL ever dreamed that he could do himself.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
