oOne of the greatest pleasures on the net are the words "It's old." Notwithstanding that, it is an awesome story.
Just a slight nit-pick: when did the word "ginormous" become ok to use? They actually use that word in the article, and it isn't from a quote. I HATE neologisms.

Nonsense, it's just a fungus. THIS is the blob (or a shoggoth, perhaps).
BERLIN (Reuters) - A thief in Germany was charred beyond recognition by a 10,000 volt electric shock when he tried to steal a live copper cable, authorities said Monday. Police in the western city of Duisburg found the 32-year-old man's blackened remains by a set of cable cutters and pile of non-live cables he had already stolen. "Snip...Buuuuzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!"
Only because one of his hands survived incineration were officers able to identify the man as German of Kazakh origin. "His fingerprints were already logged on police files," a local police spokesman said. "The force of the shock was so great that the hand was severed from his body."

It found [LCD] TVs were fast overtaking fridges, heaters and air-conditioners as the major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions from households.
Read again and savor the sheer idiocy of that statement. It is a fact the large LCD displays consume more energy than modern CRTs (I think up to 27" the LCDs are better off). But I never heard of TVs of an kind guzzling out greenhouse gases.

In the US aren't we going to exclusive HD TV signals in 2009? Which means a great many old televisions will only be useful for watching videos thereafter, if I understand correctly.

They'll have a converter box for old tuners that the government will probably give away to the first 40 million households. Either that or a voucher. We cna have vouchers for TV but not schools. go figure.

Global Nuke = Ion Power. The young children [middle school or younger] of some families I know here on Guam use their 1990's - 2004/2005? aged TV sets only for videos and older games.Computers > besides schoolwork, are used for newest Net and rental [CD-DVD] games.

Schaweet! Let's make sure all teams must play Israel. That way, by being no-shows, these intolerant Muslim assholes will get a reputation for turning their teams into losers. German + Iranian = "Mein Jihad"

This behaviour is somewhat of a tradition, according to Deutsche Welle. The authorities understand, and there is no repercussion on the player's career.
The Punjab University (PU) administration has formed a committee to deal with the recent incident of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) workers manhandling a political science teacher. Some IJT workers had thrashed Rana Ejaz, a teacher at the Political Science Department, when he had denied them permission for making political speeches in his lecture.
PU registrar Dr Naeem Ahmed Khan told Daily Times that he had formed a committee to look into the matter after he had received an application for this purpose. He said the IJT workers were damaging the dignity of the institution. He said the PU administration was aware of the problems the IJT was creating in the varsity. He said the administration would meet on Tuesday to discuss the issue of the teachers manhandling and the recent incidents of on-campus thefts. He said some people were hiding in the PU hostels in the garb of students. He said they were politicising the IJT.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
