According to newspaper accounts of the 1972 massacre, the attackers rounded up as many as 15 people into a nearby patio. Four Miami residents were among them. LaBeet forced the American Airlines flight with 198 people aboard to divert to Havana, Cuba, where he was taken off the plane by Cuban authorities. The plane later made the flight to New York with the rest of the passengers. Ishmael LaBeet remains a fugitive, and his crime still resonates with locals to this day.
Whenever somone advocates restoring ties with Cuba, ask them why Ishmael LaBeet has never been returned for trial in the United States. I guess oppressed minorities who slaughter innocent vacationers make the best communists.

An Oakland Park teen who went swimming at the beach Thursday emerged with a nurse shark latched onto his abdomen.
A well-aimed punch by a Broward Fire-Rescue lieutenant forced the 3- to 4-foot-long shark to release its grip before it could do any serious damage to the teen. Brandon Chapman, 14, was treated and released at Broward Medical Center on Thursday evening for minor injuries from the shark.
The Broward Sheriff's Office said Chapman was in about three feet of water at Anglin's Fishing Pier in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea when the shark went after him just before 5 p.m. Thursday.
Someone at the fishing pier called the police about a shark attack, and officers arrived with fire-rescue personnel, who considered using an ax and a "Jaws of Life" extrication tool to separate the teen from the shark.
Fire Rescue Lt. Rob Melendez delivered the punch to the shark's nose that forced it to release its grip. "The shark was tossed back into the ocean and quickly swam away," the Sheriff's Office said.

So, after being gnawed on by a 3-4 foot nurse shark, the 14 yo kid was treated and released? Must've been a heckuva "abdomen". The shark probably thought he'd latched on to the Sta-Puff marshmallow man.

Nurse sharks are pretty lame as man-eaters...they generally eat snails, urchins, crabs...and have small mouths. The "ax and Jaws-of-life" would do more damage to the kid...truly a great example of brainless journalism hype

OK, the Sun-Sentinel has a picture of Brandon Chapman, and he's as skinny as a rail. Chapman lifted the fish out of the water to show him off to passerby and the shark twisted around and bit him.

... and three Guatemalan illegal border crossers were taken to Sierra Vista Medical Center at midday Friday after being attacked by bees. The swarm descended on them while they were hiking down a mountainside in the Huachuca Mountains southwest of Sierra Vista.
The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. as two agents escorted a group of 32 illegal entrants. A 39-year-old Guatemalan woman and a male Border Patrol agent were stung between 60 and 100 times, said Richard DeWitt, Border Patrol Tucson Sector spokesman.
The woman was taken by helicopter to the hospital after she suffered anaphylactic shock and passed out. The agent also sustained injuries when he fell down while trying to run away from the bees. Both were released from the hospital in the late afternoon, DeWitt said. The other two border crossers, a 26-year-old woman and a 24-year-old man, had less-serious injuries from the bee stings.
The other crossers suffered minor cuts, bruises and a few stings but didn't need to be taken to a hospital. They do need to be taken to the airport. Were they?

Sierra Vista - nice town. Ft. Huachuca area has some of the highest numbers of illegals and drug-smugglers, in fact, the base has an observation balloon (with cameras/sensors) tethered to scan for crossers.

Amid increasing demand in the biofuel production sector, one of Indonesias best performing export industries, comes news that billionaire fund manager George Soros is apparently keen to buy 20,000 hectares of oil palm plantation in the province of Aceh.
The Governor of Aceh, Irwandi Yusuf, met Soros in New York recently and said on 12th September:
Soros said that he was interested in developing an oil palm plantation of about 20,000 hectares at first. This kind of investment could provide a living for about 2,500 families in Aceh.
The former rebel leader of separtist movement GAM cum Governor however didnt know the value of such an investment or the likely time frame, but promised that his administration would work hard to help Soros get things moving.
Both sides will immediately get to work on ensuring that the investment comes off.
Irwandi said Soros interest in investing in Aceh was proof of the provinces appeal to foreign investors:
