A vegan couple were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the death of their malnourished 6-week-old baby boy, who was fed a diet largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice. Superior Court Judge L.A. McConnell imposed the mandatory sentences on Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31. Their son, Crown Shakur, weighed just 3 1/2 pounds when he died of starvation on April 25, 2004. The couple were found guilty May 2 of malice murder, felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children. A jury deliberated about seven hours before returning the guilty verdicts. Smart jury. This was a case of malice.
Defense lawyers said the first-time parents did the best they could while adhering to the lifestyle of vegans, who typically use no animal products. They said Sanders and Thomas did not realize the baby, who was born at home, was in danger until minutes before he died. But prosecutors said the couple intentionally neglected their child and refused to take him to the doctor even as the baby's body wasted away. "No matter how many times they want to say, 'We're vegans, we're vegetarians,' that's not the issue in this case," said prosecutor Chuck Boring. "The child died because he was not fed. Period." They might have a defense if "vegan" also meant "retarded". Their actions sure make such a notion possible.
Although the life sentences were automatic, Sanders and Thomas begged for leniency before sentencing. Sanders urged the judge to look past his "perception" of the couple. "I loved my son - and I did not starve him," she said. Horseshit. The article makes no mention of the child being premature, so I doubt his birth weight was three puny pounds. WHEN YOUR NEWBORN CHILD IS LOSING WEIGHT, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG, VERY WRONG.
When the judge told the defendants they could ask for a new trial, Thomas hung his head low. "I'm dying every day in there," he said, "and that could take three years."

This should have been a conviction on a capital offence.
It was, unfortunately the baby was executed for his parents' stupidity. Let's all hope the judge possessed sufficient wisdom to prohibit any future conjugal visits for these two assclowns.
Ya gotta wonder if they actually tried to make the child survive on a diet of strained peas and applesauce. HELL, at six weeks, the kid wasn't even supposed to be on regular food of any sort. No meat, no cheese, no eggs, no milk, not even HONEY, fer fuck's sake. You've got to wonder, as Gladys speculated whether they even prohibited the child its own mother's milk. It's one of the only ways to explain the poor thing's starvation. Aren't there entirely synthetic infant formulas for newborns who are fatally allergic to all milk products? This is dangerously close to the Seventh Day Adventists who try to prohibit their children from receiving transfusions and other life-saving medical interventions.

I was a Seventh-day Adventist, and they believe in no such thing. In fact, they have a very large hospital system that uses all the latest techniques and technology, and their people are top notch. They feed that system with two accredited medical schools and about 10 nursing colleges.
You're mistaking them for the Jehovah's Witnesses. Yeah, they're vegans, and legalists, but they were never legalistic about that, and accepted meat eaters as members in good standing. They'll be the FIRST to tell you to take whatever medical and dietary measures it takes to stay in good health, and if what you're doing isn't working, CHANGE TO SOMETHING THAT DOES.
The Tsarevich is on a soy based formula as a supplement to breast milk. He can't tolerate one with a milk base. It's expensive, but it's what he needs, so we just have to suck it up until he gets older.
And to answer Zenster's question, yes, there are specialty formulas out there for kids who can't tolerate the milk or soy based regular ones. My niece is on one, and so is one of the Tsarevich's little "buddies". Both girls are doing great.
Not that I qualify, but through my mom's group I have it on good authority that if you are poor and need to have formula for your little one, it's covered under the WIC programs in each state, specifically to avoid the very real possibility of a baby starving to death by parents trying to use substitutes that are nutritionally inferior.
They just wanted to cheap it out by using far less expensive soy milk, and the poor little boy paid the price. Hell, the Tsarevich is 7 1/2 months, and he's still considered too young for apple juice! What the hell were these idiots thinking??
A man cut off his own head with a chainsaw after stabbing his 70-year-old father to death in their apartment in the German city of Cologne, police said.
The body of the offender, 24, was found headless when police raced to the apartment after an emergency call, apparently from the dying father, had been broken off in mid-sentence.
Alf Willwacher, a senior prosecutor, said an electric chainsaw was next to the son's body.
"We do not believe any third party was involved,'' he said.
Neighbours said the father and son had been reclusive since the death of the mother, allegedly by suicide, several years ago.
The only surviving child of Walt Disney has called Hamas "pure evil" for turning Mickey Mouse into a propaganda tool for hate. Diane Disney Miller said she was disgusted that a rip-off of the loveable cartoon character was being used on a new Hamas TV show to encourage Palestinian children to take up arms against Israel and America.
Ms Miller, 73, said it went "against the grain of humanity". She told the New York Daily News: "Of course I feel personal about Mickey Mouse, but it could be Barney as well.

Hamas's Al-Aqsa TV station started running the children's series, called Tomorrow's Pioneers, last month. It features the life-size lookalike of Mickey Mouse called Farfur, who sings about youngsters arming themselves with AK-47s and striving for world domination "under Islamic leadership".
Ms Miller said: "What we're dealing with here is pure evil and you can't ignore that."
Farfur also tells children to pray and drink their milk.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The owner of an upscale steakhouse in Louisville said he asked O.J. Simpson to leave his restaurant the night before the Kentucky Derby because he is sickened by the attention Simpson still attracts. As are millions of others.
"I didn't want to serve him because of my convictions of what he's done to those families," Jeff Ruby said in a telephone interview Tuesday. "The way he continues to torture the lives of those families ... with his behavior, attitude and conduct."
Simpson, an NFL Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner, was found innocent in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman but was found liable in a civil trial that followed.
Ruby who owns restaurants in Cincinnati, Louisville and Belterra, Ind. said Simpson, who was in town for the Derby on Saturday, came in with a group of about 12 Friday night and was seated at a table in the back. A customer came up to Ruby and was "giddy" about seeing Simpson, Ruby said. So, who are these 12 sycophants who tried to dine with OJ? Wouldn't it be hilarious to follow some of them home and jump out of the bushes with a big knife as they reached their front door?
"I didn't want that excrement experience in my restaurant," Ruby said, later adding that seeing Simpson get so much attention "makes me sick to my stomach."
He said he went to Simpson's table and said, "I'm not serving you." Ruby said when Simpson didn't respond, he repeated himself and left the room. Maybe he should have let them stay and just played the Psycho shower music over the PA.
Ruby said Simpson soon came up to him and said he understood and would gather the rest of his party to leave.
Simpson's attorney, Yale Galanter, said the incident was about race, and he intended to pursue the matter and possibly go after the restaurant's liquor license. Yep, it's about race, Yale; the human race.
"He screwed with the wrong guy, he really did," Galanter said by telephone Tuesday night. Mr. Ruby might be a little better prepared than Nicole and Ron, you steaming pile of rat feces. Galanter is a 99 percenter, on the theory that 99 percent of lawyers give the other one percent a bad name.
Ruby said the incident had to do with Simpson's past. "It was the first time since 1994 he has ever shown any class," Ruby said. "He showed it that night in the restaurant" by leaving quietly.
Ruby said after Simpson left, people in the restaurant started applauding him. He said he has received about 100 positive e-mails since the incident.
The walls of Ruby's restaurants are decorated with celebrity photos. A photo of Simpson and Ruby used to be on display, but Ruby said he took it down after the killings.
Ruby's been a target of Cincinnati's race hustlers in the past. I suspect this will just start all that over again.

Too bad more people do not demonstrate the moral rectitude that Ruby did. Simpson should find all the world's doors locked to him. I am still suprised that someone has not punched Simpson's ticket out of sheer disgust with his conduct. The "If I Did It" book farce was a slap to all law abiding people. Laughing out loud in law enforcement's face like that should entail excruciatingly painful consequences.

Then the story gets strange.
A Shelby County, Texas, homeowner is free on personal-recognizance bond after fatally shooting a man he found vandalizing his car. The shooting happened early Sunday afternoon outside a house on Highway 96 North near Center. Sheriff's officials said Buster Wayne Ford, 71, shot 50-year-old Reginald Paul Fountain of Shelby County. Fountain, described by a relative as mentally unstable, was kicking the car when Ford shot him, authorities said.
Fountain had been arrested in the past for chewing on his dog.
Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson said Ford was arrested without incident after a 911 call was made to the Sheriff's Department about 12:15 p.m. Sunday He was booked into the county jail on a murder charge and later released on a personal-recognizance bond. The case will be presented to a grand jury later this month. Its members will decide whether to file charges or rule the shooting justified. Charges could range from assault to murder.

I have a few questions. Does "Chewing on his dog" litterally mean what it seems to mean...He was biting his beast, masticating his mutt, feeding on Fido...or is it some kind of euphemism?
I am not a lawyer trained in Texas law, so I am wondering, how badly do you need to chew a dog before you get arrested? Is nibbling OK? Does ownership provide any special dog chewing privileges not available to a non-owner?
Which reminds me of a story...Two guys are watching a dog that is licking its balls. One of the guys says "I wish I could do that".. The other says "Why don't you...Its your dog".

I am not a Texas lawyer either. I do denounce them in print and on radio, however, so I'll give it a shot.
Dog-chewing (canine crunching) is definitely a crime in Texas unless you are another dog. Even there, we have exceptions. As with people, there are protected groups. Rottweilers, for instance, are not allowed to chew on poodles. It is considered a doggie hate crime, punishable by an extra year in the pound or deportation to a tamale factory.

Buster is in deep trouble: If Reginald Fountain had been caught vandalizing Buster and Violet Ford's car seven hours earlier, or eight hours later, Buster might not now be charged with murder in connection with the shooting of the 50-year-old man. But the 71-year-old homeowner, who said Fountain was beating in the windshield of the couple's car outside their home near Center, is now facing homicide charges because Ford allegedly shot Fountain in broad daylight, not at night.
It was a little after noon Sunday when the Fords heard a ruckus outside their home U.S. Hwy. 96 just north of Center. According to Shelby County officials, Buster Ford went outside to find a man on top of the hood of the couple's vehicle, beating in the windshield.
No one knows why Fountain behaved the way he did Sunday afternoon, but authorities suspect his actions may have been drug-related, and Fountain has a criminal history of erratic behavior. "I don't know that he was under the influence of any drugs that day," Shelby County District Attorney Linda K. Russell said, "but he has tested positive in the past."
Fountain made headlines a few months back when he was arrested by the Center Police Department, after he was found walking down the street, repeatedly biting a dog he was carrying in his arms. "He chewed the ears off of a puppy," Russell said. "He just kept biting this puppy, and it turned out he was on a mixture of PCP and cocaine, at that time."
According to Section 9.42 of the Texas Penal Code, a person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect land or property to prevent arson, burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, theft or criminal mischief during the nighttime. "That means you have the right to defend your property at night with deadly force, but not in broad open daylight," Russell said. "Now, if an intruder is in your home, you can shoot them whether it's daylight or dark," she said. "But according to the law, property is not as valuable as human life."

Dunno about this one. Normally I am all in favor of whacking goblins, but this one needs to be looked at carefully. The victim was not threatening the shooter; he was just damaging property - not even stealing it. The shooter could have called the cops first, instead of shooting first and asking questions later.
Georgette Prince was making a quick run to the store last Thursday morning for orange soda and lottery tickets -- a venture that should have been an uneventful five-minute trip but became a terrifying 20-minute ordeal.
The unsuspecting Prince was caught in the storm of a SWAT team raid that had her in fear for her life. "I thought I was going to be shot. I thought I was going to die," Prince recalled over the weekend as she sat in the living room of her Grace Avenue home.

A case was registered against eight people under the blasphemy laws for allegedly insulting the holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions. The action was taken by the Baloch Colony police after a court order was issued. A search for the eight men has begun. The additional district judge South issued an order against the eight accused, the SIO at the Baloch Colony Police Station, Naeem Awan, told Daily Times. An FIR (No 76/2007) was lodged against Syed Muhammad Shah Noorani, Sikandar Hussain, Ghulam Raza, Ghulam Haider, Javed, Ejaz, Syed Mohsin Ashrafi and Noor Muhammad Noori, under Sections 295-C and 506 of the PPC.
The complainant was Ghulam Muhammad Khan, a resident of Manzoor Colony, Awan said. The eight men allegedly published a book titled Shuhada-e-Masoomeen. The book apparently uses derogatory words about the holy Quran, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions.

Hindu hardliners on Tuesday attacked two Christian missionaries in public the latest violence against priests accused of trying to convert lower-caste Hindus to Christianity by right-wing Hindu groups.
Indian TV channels showed Hindu activists kicking and punching two young priests while dragging them through Kolhapur town. News footage showed an activist knee one priest in the groin, making him double up in pain. Another kicked the missionary in the head.
The crowd accused the priests of forcibly converting poor Hindus and handed them over to the local police but a local Christian leader said the baptised had willingly changed their faith.
Whether it was a forced conversion or not is subject to a police investigation and should not be judged by a mob, Dolphy DSouza said. Police, however, said the two missionaries had been arrested on complaints that they were fraudulently converting people.
Hardline Hindu groups some linked to Indias main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have accused Christian priests of bribing poor tribesmen and lower caste Hindus to change their faith. Several states ruled by the BJP have passed anti-conversion laws.
Last week, Hindu zealots beat a pastor with sticks and left him bleeding in Rajasthan state where the BJP is in power. Christian groups say lower-caste Hindus who convert do so willingly to escape the highly stratified Hindu caste system. Christians make up around 2.3 percent of Indias 1.1 billion population.

Indias largest religious mass conversion will be held at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on May 27. Laxman Mane, a nomadic tribal whose autobiography Upara (Outsider) is a celebrated work of Marathi Dalit literature, will preside as lakhs of his supporters from 42 nomadic tribes convert to Buddhism. Tibetan spiritual leader The Dalai Lama will perform the rites.
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday allowed the Royal Western India Turf Club to let the organisers hold the rally. A citizens group, Public Concern for Governance Trust, had filed a petition in 2005 requesting the court to disallow such public functions at the racecourse.
The mass conversion, expected to be a social and political landmark, comes 51 years after Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar called on lower castes to abandon Hinduism and become Buddhists at a function to be held at the racecourse. But he passed away before the event could be held.
Its a small effort to realise Ambedkars dream, said Mane, who converted to Buddhism in Nagpur on October 2, 2006.
On May 27, Mane said, 1,000-odd nomadic families will be brought before the gathering organisers say about 5 lakh people will attend in all to lead the conversions. Over one lakh others will embrace the religion simultaneously.
Asked why he chose Buddhism, Mane (56) said tribals had been following Lord Buddhas teachings without knowing it. But now weve realised that our practices are similar to Buddhisms, he told HT. Mane refused to term the rally as an exercise in conversions. We tribals never followed Hinduism, so theres no question of relinquishing it, he said. Mane said the conversions were a protest against government apathy. Forget a decent standard of living, most of us dont even get shelter and food. Our literacy level is just 0.06 per cent, he pointed out.

On Tuesday morning, 8 May 2007, the Palestinian police arrested Alaa Owaida after he had murdered his sister in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah allegedly to save his family honor.
According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 02:00 on Tuesday, 8 May 2007, the police arrived at a house in Tal al-Sultan neighborhood in the west of Rafah after receiving information that a woman was killed for family honor. The police found the body of Khawla Ahmed Owaida, 35, inside the house. She was killed by a gunshot to the head. Her brother, 32-year-old Alaa, confessed committing the crime to save his family honor, and the police arrested him.
He'll be sentenced to carry out a splodydope bombing against the Jooooz.

The Rockland County jail will hire a Muslim imam and is providing ritually correct food to inmates in the wake of allegations of discrimination following the jail chaplain's distribution of anti-Islam tracts. The imam will work one day per week at $22 per hour and as needed additionally for special cases. The jail's contracted priest and rabbi work under the same terms, Undersheriff Thomas Guthrie said yesterday.
Teresa Darden Clapp, an ordained Christian minister and the jail's chaplain, was suspended with pay last month after passing out religious cartoon booklets that condemned Islam and contained derogatory depictions and descriptions of Allah and the Prophet Muhammad. Jail officials ordered the tracts removed when they learned of the incident after an inmate complained.
Since then, local Muslims have met with jail officials to discuss their concerns, alleging that when they tried to come to the jail to minister to inmates, they were treated unfairly by Clapp. Clapp has not commented publicly about the incident, and has not responded to messages left for comment. A woman who identified herself as Clapp called the county's Human Rights Commission last month and denied any wrongdoing.
The county requested an independent investigation into Clapp's actions by attorneys Kevin J. Plunkett and Darius P. Chafizadeh of the firm Thacher, Proffitt and Wood in White Plains. Plunkett, who is in charge of the investigation, said the probe would be completed shortly. "We will be issuing a report and recommendation," he said.
Mohammed Ziaullah, a member of the Islamic Center of Rockland who has been among local Muslims to meet twice with jail officials, said he was pleased about the progress of the investigation and by the jail's hiring of an imam and its procurement of a halal - or religiously acceptable -food vendor.
Jail Chief William Clark said last month that the jail did not have an imam because the funds were not in the budget, adding that the jail was not serving inmates halal meals because the vendor who used to supply the food had gone out of business. Inmates instead were served kosher meals, which were considered an acceptable substitute by the state.
The local Muslim community had called for Clapp's dismissal after the accusations came to light. People remained interested in the outcome of the investigation, Ziaullah added. At the mosque, "they keep asking us, 'What happened to the chaplain?' They're interested," the Chestnut Ridge man said. "They were saying, 'We want to protest in front of the jail.' I said, 'This is not necessary now; let's see what the outcome of this is.'

A more rational explanation might be found in the sober observation that murders - even decidedly horrific murders - are unfortunately too frequent an occurrence in the U.S. for all of them to garner national attention.
Racial hate crimes are always front-page national news. This one isn't. Why? Because it would force journalists to confront some very uncomfortable truths.

The left's "fake but accurate" mantra in reverse. "True but inaccurate", nobody will get preferential hiring or tenure or an arts council grant for interpretive dance numbers expressing how this incident "silenced" them.

Notice that Snopes dismisses the likelihood that all the major outlets conspired to ignore this.
Nobody said anything about "conspire". Snopes, knowing this, went ahead to pretend that something not asserted was not true.
The obvious goal is to whitewash the media.
In fact, you don't need a conspiracy if everybody thinks the same way, which is what the point about the coverage is.

The term the liberals have for that is 'institutionalized racism'. Of course, being liberals, they are exempted from ever being racists. It's just everybody else.
Well, that certainly rules out two young kids with their entire lives before them being raped, tortured, mutilated and brutalized then murdered. Now if Al Sharpton had gotten a papercut, we'd be hearing about it 24-7. So, where are the black activists and their condemnation of such horrific brutality? Oh, that's right, their still stirring up rage over Don Imus.
