Maybe this technology should be used on POW's released from Abu Prison, Camp Bucca
Satellite technology will be used to track 5,000 career criminals who are responsible for one in every 10 crimes in Britain, the Home Secretary David Blunkett will announce tomorrow. The radical new technology, which has been developed in the US, will enable law enforcement officers to pinpoint the exact location of criminals who have been released early from prison and fitted with electronic tags. It will feature among a series of measures in a five-year plan to tackle burgeoning violent crime and antisocial behaviour. Home Office figures released next week will show police forces recording rises as high as 25 per cent. A Home Office source said: "We are the largest users of tagging outside the US and we will continue to do this. We will introduce satellite tracing for prolific offenders as well as for domestic violence and sex offenders."... Of course, one wonders why the UK[or the US for that matter] releases these repeat low life criminals in the first place...

Presumably they will tag the guy who shot a burglar and was then sent to prison. And in related news there is a sudden hacksaw shortage in Britain.

Only if the satellites were armed with a lay-ser could this be considered better than prison.

Rex - you're spot on mate. I think they should be (a) locked up for life - real life, in a custom 5,000 'seater' prison so they can't infect anyone else, or (b) shoot them.
As you're not allowed to defend yourself in this country, it's no wonder that violent crime and anti-social behaviour is up 25% (we really need to understand the root causes of crime after all...)
Typically, this dumb-ass government adds on sex offenders (paedophiles are everywhere in the UK donchaknow?) and domestic violence offenders (to satisfy the femi-Nazis in the labour party). But then Blunkett is a wanker with this "don't say anything nasty about Islam" law he's shafting us with.
Yes, I am annoyed about all this...

Via Bros. Judd:
Eurofighter GmbH, the venture in charge of Europe's biggest defense project, may start to wind down production, threatening thousands of jobs, unless the U.K. and other countries buy a second group of 236 planes this month. ``A binding commitment for funding'' by the end of July is ``the minimum we need followed by an undertaking that contract signature will follow,'' said Eurofighter Chief Executive Officer Aloysius Rauen, 47, in an interview. ``The Eurofighter partner companies are preparing steps to run down the program.'' Eurofighter is at least six years behind schedule already and the cost has tripled to more than 83 billion euros ($103 billion). The program employs about 10,000 people working on the airframe and another 10,000 working on the engine and other equipment. It's all Britain's fault.

I think the initial orders have all been for interceptors, too(?) - basically useless for the sort of role likely to be required of such an aircraft type in this day and age. The fighter-bombers were to be rolled out later, and so now may not be at all...

The LLL is pulling out all the stops to destroy Fox News. MoveOn (to dhimmitude) is attempting naked political censorship with its FTC complaint that the network's "Fair and Balanced" slogan constitutes deceptive advertising. This is significant as an indication that a major barrier to censorship, the opposition of the media culture itself, has now been removed. The various elements of media culture, Hollywood, Madison Avenue, commercial pop-culture have long since reached a collective political concensus.

I was channel surfing last night and came across a so-called 'Fair and Balance' network or show (not FOX) apparently put on by some extreame left group.
It was an attempt to spoof FOX but obviously a extreame 'left' viewpoint.
To quote: "Remember AIDS? Thanks Ronald Reagan!". And some 'doctor' trying to explain the 'Orilley' factor. In fact it was all the left screeching about how Bush stole the election, etc...
The federal government has told the Canadian Bible Society to end its 50-year tradition of offering the New Testament to new Canadians at citizenship ceremonies because doing so is inconsistent with Canada's promotion of multiculturalism. Citizenship and Immigration Canada said it received complaints from participants who felt the Christian scriptures were being imposed on them, a charge the society denies. "They say this is about freedom of religion, but the government is actually curtailing freedom of religion," said Reverend Phyllis Nesbitt, the society's national director. The 200-year-old interdenominational Christian organization will appeal Ottawa's ruling that it stop setting up tables stacked with commemorative Maple Leaf-embossed Bibles at citizenship ceremonies...The organization has been giving away about 60,000 of the small Bibles a year. The practice started when volunteers from the organization brought the books to the docks welcoming immigrants who landed at Halifax's Pier 21 in the 1950s...Participants used to affirm the citizenship oath with their right hand on a Bible, but that practice was abandoned years ago. Currently, they can either raise their right hand in the air or bring a holy book of their choice to use. Rev. Nesbitt says her organization should not be singled out because it is the only one to attend the ceremonies. Any faith group was free to set up a table as well, she said. A Muslim organization attended several ceremonies handing out copies of the Koran when she was a minister working in Halifax. Interesting but not not surprising that the Bible got the thumbs down but the Koran is okay. No doubt, upon reading this story, the ACLU will double check that immigrants are not given Bibles when they come to the USA...horrors!

Subtitle[honest!]: Democrats are outraged over the remark directed at them, calling it sexist and anti-gay.
This article was too funny to cut too much. Sugar for everyone's Sunday morning coffee.
ONTARIO - This time he called them "girlie men up there in Sacramento." Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, using fiery campaign-style rhetoric and some of the Hollywood lines that made him famous, came to the Inland Empire on Saturday afternoon to bash and threaten Democrats he said were "obstructionists" blocking the state budget and catering to special interests. "If they don't have the guts to come up here in front of you and say, 'I don't want to represent you, I want to represent those special interests, the unions, the trial lawyers, and I want them to make the millions of dollars - if they don't have the guts, I call them girlie men," Schwarzenegger shouted at a shopping mall rally. The "girlie men" line was from a comedy skit on the "Saturday Night Live" television show that poked fun at the Austrian-born bodybuilder and movie star. It became a comic landmark after comedian Dana Carvey first uttered it in the 1980s.
On Saturday, Schwarzenegger directed it at Democrats twice, sparking howls of laughter from more than 1,000 people jammed in to see him - and howls of protest from Democrats, who said the remark was sexist, anti-gay and more characteristic of a bully than a Republican governor purporting to seek compromise and bipartisanship. "About a fourth of the Senate are women," Sen. Gloria Romero, a Los Angeles Democrat who's been working with the Schwarzenegger administration on prison reform, said in a telephone interview. "This is offensive for women. It is offensive to gays and lesbians in the Legislature because of the way that term historically has been applied. 'Girlie man' is a negative term. It is inappropriate for a governor or anybody to name-call someone who, whether he likes it or not, has been elected by a majority of people in a district to represent them."
Assemblywoman Sarah Reyes, D-Fresno, said Schwarzenegger should issue an apology for the "crude and inappropriate" comment. "I think we're seeing the real Arnold Schwarzenegger," she said. "It was alleged in the campaign that he was sexist and that he behaved inappropriately toward women and had no respect for them, and now we're seeing it's true."

A BIG helping of STFU. Even Dem voters are disenchanted with the legislature's antics. Arnold may be able to pull the state out for Bush with John Burton and crew's unintentional help. They're blocking a budget and demanding spending increases, exactly the process that gave us former Gov Gray Davis

Control the language, control the argument. Every totalitarian from Lenin to Goebbels to Noam Chomsky has known this.
It is amazing, and a good indication of just how far out of touch the California left is, that they apparently assume that nobody else recognizes the real purpose of their thin-skinned bleating: to halt debate, change the subject, and, ultimately, to silence all opposition.

Girlie Men? Brahahahah.... Must be hitting damn close to home to get that reaction.
And its true, the Dimocrats represent the special interests. The Unions (who do *not* represent the workers anymore), the NEA, the trial lawyers, and the hollywierd elite.
And in part they are right, it is a slam against women.... women have more 'balls'!
So has the Dimocrats apologies for Whoppie's stupid comments yet?
Can't figure out how to post a picture. However, the picture at Allahpundit is too good not to reference. Second picture down, the Kery-Edwards poster, "Let America be America again." KE.jpg

Oh, that should work well...
Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz has pledged to transform Pakistan into a strong and Islamic welfare state. "To see Pakistan as a developed, strong and viable Muslim state in the Islamic world has always been one of my dreams and time has come to transform this dream into reality," Mr Aziz told a delegation of ulema and mashaikh (Islamic scholars and leaders) from Rawalpindi-Islamabad and Attock who met him on Saturday. He said he would try his best to fulfil this mission under the ulema's guidance and support. The ulema supported Mr Aziz in the fulfillment of his mission for the cause of Islam and Pakistan. Mr Aziz told them that he respected the religious and leaders. "We do not believe in mere slogans but practical steps for the promotion of the country and welfare of its people," he said. He called for joint efforts to develop economy. He said the Islamic Ideology Council had been reorganised to make Pakistan an Islamic welfare state. He said the government had asked the council provide recommendations to the government so that it could pass laws in accordance with the teachings of Islam.

Given the ratio of moneyed to poor in that country, it shouldn't be long before they have to sell off all their munitions just to pay the healthcare bill. Good news all around!
A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
