Axis of Evil
Rumsfeld Says He Has 'Reason to Believe' N.K. Initiated Clash
Brushing off Pyongyang's claim that the South Korean navy launched a preemptive attack on North Korean vessels in the Yellow Sea, U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said Tuesday the department has 'every reason' to believe that North Korean ships initiated the clash. Speaking on last weekend's bloody naval clash to reporters in a daily briefing, Rumsfeld said, 'It is pretty clear that the North Korean vessel came south into areas that are beyond the demilitarized zone... And needless to say, the North is saying that it was instigated by the South.'
Hmmm... Lessee, here. It was stupid, brutal, and being blamed on the U.S... Sounds pretty typical for the North Koreans. They still have their love of discussing things with axes.

Kim Repeats Demand for Apology from NK
In a speech at Seoul Airport, Tuesday, President Kim Dae-jung said the government was strongly demanding an apology, the punishment of those responsible and a promise of non-recurrence from North Korea, with regard to the West Sea naval clash on June 29. President Kim, returning from a three-day trip to Japan continued the incident would be looked on as a lesson to strengthen security to deal with any military provocation in the future.
Maybe you should stop buying them groceries?

A dozen more Sipah thugs nabbed in Rawalpindi
Police on Tuesday arrested 12 suspected terrorists who were allegedly planning attack on worship places in Rawalpindi and seized a huge quantity of weapons. The weapons seized by the police included nine kalashnikovs, eight 222 rifles, one 8mm rifle, four grenades, three detonators, one light machine gun, one rocket launcher, 10 rocket launcher shells, 2200 cartridges, including 560 bullets of LMG, and 15 boosters.
"Well, y'see, we wuz gonna go huntin' elk, but somethin' came up, so we just left all that stuff at the hideout... uh... club."
The SSP suspected that the arrested people belonged to Sipah-i-Sihaba. It was yet to be ascertained whether they had any link with Al Qaeda. The SSP said raids were still underway to arrest other members of the group, who managed to escape from the scene during a police crackdown on Tuesday morning. He said different raiding parties had been formed after a tip-off was received that some "terrorists" were planning attacks in Rawalpindi.

Fazl sez FBI's in command in Waziristan
Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has claimed that the Pakistan army troops are being used against local tribesmen in Waziristan on the pretext of tracking down the suspected Taliban or Al Qaeda fugitives. The JUI chief warned the rulers against indulging into the tribesmen's affairs. "Instead of sending the army to occupied Kashmir, the rulers have dispatched troops to the southern Waziristan. It is a dangerous move."
Well, yeah. That's true. Sending troops into Kashmir would initiate a war that would kill thousands and would stand a great chance of turning nuclear, in which case it would kill millions. But that's what you wanted, wasn't it? Waziristan is a piece of Pakland that doesn't have any law'n'order, and you want that, too, don't you?
Maulana Fazl alleged that the rulers had handed over the command of the armed forces to the FBI and the CIA agents stationed in Pakistan. "When we advise rulers not to use our armed forces for the US interests, they call us as enemies. "In fact," he declared, "they themselves are facilitating the enemies of the Ummah."
Translated from the Urdu, that means Perv's not suicidal.
He asked the government to respect the independent status of the tribesmen and honour their traditions as was done by successive governments. Maulana Fazl told the students that the US had two-pronged agenda of doing away with the spirit and concept of Jihad. The US and its lackeys were portraying the Jihad as terrorism and dividing the Muslims on regional, national and racial lines, he added.
Rather than standing back and admiring a single Ummah, united and strong, under benevolent Arab overlords...
He said the slogan 'first Pakistan' raised by Gen Musharraf was, in fact, a step towards isolating Pakistan from the rest of the Ummah. The US had been opposed to the Sunni Islam in Afghanistan and the Shia Islam in Iran. At the same time, he added, it was opposed to extremist Mulla Omar in Afghanistan and liberal Yasser Arafat in Palestine.
Hey, pretty consistent, huh?

#1  As Fazlul's JUL is a signatory to al-Qaeda'a "jihad against Jews and Crusaders", the Pak government should be lecturing him with a bullet in the head. As, for the Warzi "traditions" which include harborage of terrorists, we should "honor" them with Daisy Cutters.

Paks nab two more 'most wanted'
Two more of the nine 'most wanted' men have been picked up by the law enforcement agencies, raising the number detained to four. Sources said on Tuesday that the law enforcement agencies picked up a man named Sharib for his involvement in the Sheraton and US consulate bomb explosions. The government announced an award of Rs1.5 million on his arrest.

Another suspect, Naveedul Hasan, wanted in the US consulate car bomb explosion, was also detained and both were being questioned. A reward of Rs2 million was announced on the arrest of Naveedul Hasan. However, officially the police denied the arrest of any suspect on the 'most wanted' list.

Sources said Naveedul Hasan was picked up when a paramilitary force along with the agents of the American Federal Bureau of Investigation raided a place in Kharadar. The police remained unaware of the raid and the ultimate arrest of Naveedul Hasan, which showed a complete lack of coordination between the law enforcement agencies.
And also accounts for the fact that he was actually nabbed.

Thousands flee Sudanese govt troops advance
Tens of thousands of people are fleeing fighting in Sudan's oil-rich region of Western Upper Nile, following the fall of the key rebel-held town of Mankien to government forces in June. The charity Christian Aid says there is clear evidence that civilians are being targeted in the government offensive. The war in Sudan between the Islamic government of the north and rebels from the mainly Christian south has lasted nearly two decades, and despite recent US efforts, it seems to be getting worse, with terrible consequences for civilians.
That's because they reached an agreement and the SPLA didn't keep it. They wanted to grab off a little more...
On Friday last week there was more mayhem as government militias broke through the rebel lines again, attacking and looting villages south of Mankien and causing more villagers to flee. The United States Government recently brokered a deal between the SPLA rebels and the Khartoum government where both sides agreed not to target civilians.
Which is a fine demonstration of just how much that piece of paper was worth.

Middle East
Jibril's successor named...
Jibril Rajoub was replaced by the former governor of Jenin, Zuher Manafrah, public works minister Azzam al Ahmed told AFP. Manafrah confirmed that he had taken up the post.
I've never heard of Manafrah. Neither has Google, at least not with that spelling...
Ahmed added Rajoub had been informed of the decision by Jamal Tarifi, minister of civil administration. Palestinian officials in Arafat's Ramallah headquarters said that Rajoub and Tarifi had been seen entering Arafat's base earlier in the evening. Manafrah, who was governor of Jenin from 1996 until last month, said that Rajoub had been offered his position as governor of the town.
That way Jibril will never be heard from again...
As part of his security shake-up, Arafat also made General Ribhi Arafat head of the Israeli-Palestinian liaison office (DCO) for both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, officials said. The general had previously been head of the West Bank DCO.
Ribhi's no relation to Yasser. He was the judge at the drumhead court martial of the four Zaeevi assassins in April.
The Palestinian leader also sacked Mahmud Abu Marzuk, the head of Palestinian civil defense, the same sources said.
But why? He was doing such a fine job...

PA wounds two IDF
Palestinian fighters attacked Israeli troops with assault rifle fire and fragmentation grenades near the Gaza Strip settlement of Ganei Tal early Wednesday, lightly wounding two soldiers. Israeli soldiers searching the settlement's hothouses later traded fire with the two Palestinians before taking them into custody.
It's a blessing that for all their eye-rolling, gun-waving vows of dire retribution, the thugs aren't really good at fighting against real soldiers. It's probably safer to be in the IDF than it is to go to a disco anywhere near the West Bank...

Rounding up thugs on the West Bank
In the West Bank, Israeli troops who re-entered Qalqilyah on Tuesday afternoon conducted searches overnight, resulting in the arrest of two Palestinians. In other incidents overnight, Israel’s Army Radio reported that troops arrested six wanted Palestinians in the West Bank city of Hebron. One of the Palestinians apparently managed to escape the besieged PA headquarters in the city last weekend. Following his capture, the troops apprehended two Hamas activists and three Fatah members. In addition, the Israeli army said it arrested a wanted Palestinian in the village of Yatta, south of Hebron. Other Palestinians were arrested in Nablus and in the town of Beit Annan, near Ramallah.
Busy, busy, busy. But if they let up for a week, the roaches come scurrying out, with their little red headbands, and there are explosions everywhere you look.

Guingona fires first salvo against US presence
A day after he resigned as secretary of Foreign Affairs, Vice President Teofisto Guingona filed his first public salvo against the administration’s relationship with the United States, criticizing the superpower’s “Big Brother” approach to Philippine problems. A known anti-US activist forced out of his position because of differences over the US’ role in Philippine affairs, Guingona urged the Philippine Armed Forces (AFP) to strive for competence “not only for war but also for peace.”

The Vice President obliquely confirmed reports that future joint RP-US military exercises could be targeting the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the country’s largest separatist group. “Our views may differ. Who you consider as terrorists may be the force with whom we are negotiating peace,” he said.
Hmmm... Lemme see. They maintain an armed force in an uneasy truce with the gummint, they consort with Abu Sayyaf and other Bad Guys, and periodically they kidnap people and hold them for ransom. So why should we worry about them? Oh, and the Soddies just love them for some reason. It doesn't look like there's much difference between a Filipino "peace activist" and an American "peace activist." They all seem to start from the assumption that the U.S. is wrong and work from there.
