Kathy on blind spots, me on hatred
Kathy Kinsley does some Thinking Out Loud on the subject of blind spots.
"It's pretty obvious to me that they are a warrior culture, and simply cannot conceive that a culture which prefers peace could possibly counterattack the way we did. That's one blind spot I see in them. That warrior mindset is also what makes them believe that the US rules Israel (or vice-versa). Someone must always rule... Can we use that? Make them worry about each other more than us?

They may be evil, they may be perpetual victims. They may be evil victims. But, whatever they are, they are damned good at finding our blind spots. We need to find theirs."

#1  Nuance and subtlety don't really work well when dealing with the Arabs, historically speaking. The Crusades were about as subtle a way of saying, "Gee, we really aren't interested in being ruled by the Dar Al Islam" as is likely to work.

The Divine Orianna
Gary Farber e-mailed to remind me that I hadn't managed to include a link to Orianna Falacci on Yasser and Euros. I blame this on having been on my low-bandwidth backup server at the time:
"I find it shameful that in obedience to the stupid, vile, dishonest, and for them extremely advantageous fashion of Political Correctness the usual opportunists--or better the usual parasites--exploit the word Peace. That in the name of the word Peace, by now more debauched than the words Love and Humanity, they absolve one side alone of its hate and bestiality. That in the name of a pacifism (read conformism) delegated to the singing crickets and buffoons who used to lick Pol Pot’s feet they incite people who are confused or ingenuous or intimidated. Trick them, corrupt them, carry them back a half century to the time of the yellow star on the coat. These charlatans who care about the Palestinans as much as I care about the charlatans. That is not at all."
Nor is that all. In fact, what's quoted is part of the foreplay. The lady then proceeds to get wound up: Yasser is
"This false warrior who always goes around in uniform like Pinochet, never putting on civilian garb, and yet despite this has never participated in a battle. War is something he sends, has always sent, others to do for him. That is, the poor souls who believe in him. This pompous incompetent who playing the part of Head of State caused the failure of the Camp David negotiations, Clinton’s mediation. No-no-I-want-Jerusalem-all-to-myself. This eternal liar who has a flash of sincerity only when (in private) he denies Israel’s right to exist, and who... contradicts himself every five minutes. He always plays the double-cross, lies even if you ask him what time it is, so that you can never trust him."
She then lines the entire continent of Europe up, with Italia in the lead, and walks down the line slapping each face in turn:
"And [I am] disgusted by the antisemitism of many Italians, of many Europeans, I am ashamed of this shame that dishonors my Country and Europe. At best, it is not a community of States, but a pit of Pontius Pilates."
Falacci is no gentle, fainting maiden. She's tough and she's very smart, and I wouldn't want to argue with her. I'm not even sure I'd want to arm-wrestle her. But I cast myself at her feet and exclaim: "Orianna, our hearts are one!"

Afghanistan
U.S. forces searching for al-Qaeda in Pakland
U.S. forces are searching for al-Qaeda fighters in the rough tribal regions of Pakistan, which has agreed to let American troops go after militants in the South Asian country, four well-placed U.S. officials said Thursday.
This started coming out yesterday. There have been rumors of Delta/SAS ops in Jammu and Kashmir as well...
The covert operation will extend the U.S. conflict against Osama bin Laden's terror operation in Afghanistan across the border to Pakistan as President Pervez Musharraf validates his support for the Bush administration.
He'll also take a lot of heat for it from the turbans, who see a secular state under every bush with an infidel behind it.
"We have a shared concern with the Pakistanis," one of the officials told The Associated Press. But asked about reports the military operation has begun, the official said, "I can't say we've gotten to that point yet."
That's the ticket. Admit nothing.
The tribal areas, just over the border from al-Qaeda's Afghan strongholds in Paktia and Paktika provinces, are historical rally points for fighters fleeing Afghanistan.
Also R&R centers and a place to keep a second home.
U.S. officials have said al-Qaida and Taliban fighters are believed to be regrouping in the tribal areas. The administration and Pakistan worked out rules of engagement for the military several weeks ago. This established terms for the operation, and the Musharraf government has stood by them despite reports of wavering.
Perv's not a fool. He's got lots of opposition in the country, from the PPP and PML factions, but the big opposition is Qazi, operating as front man for Fazl, who is in turn Binny's front man. The tribal areas are a big gob of Pashtunistan that Pakland's never been able to digest. It poses as much of a danger to Perv as it does to Karzai.
Also, an official said, American soldiers had not been wounded, as The Washington Post reported Thursday.
Most of the reports of wounded originate with Afghan Islamic Press, which seems to be a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Talibs and/or al-Qaeda. They're picked up by Frontier Post and then disproved or ignored.
Yet another official said U.S. forces in Afghanistan had chased al-Qaida fighters across the border sporadically over the past few weeks, but that was separate from the covert operation.
These are the cross-border ops that Qureshi was saying don't happen...

Axis of Evil
Al-Qaeda detritus behind Salih attack
Kurdish officials said that radical Islamic militants control an area of several small villages on the Iranian border near the town of Halabja. Estimates of the number of militants range from about 100 to several hundred. Kurdish officials said dozens of these fighters are believed to have trained in bin Laden's camps. Western diplomats could not confirm those reports or others that Taliban fighters fled to the region through Iran after the U.S. began bombing Afghanistan.
These would be the Jund-al-Islam or one of its aliases...
Kurdish officials also said that some of al-Qaida trainees may have fled to northern Iraq via Iran and may be using it as a safe haven that is under the control of no central authority. The radicals are divided into several groups and their aims are not clear.
Aside from killing lots of people, setting up an Islamic state, and slapping women around, that is.
Officials with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan say the militants carried out an April 2 attack on a top PUK official hours after he met with a U.S. delegation. In that attack, militants armed with assault rifles and grenades opened fire on Barham Salih, killing five of his bodyguards before they were killed or captured.
The flavor of the identity papers of the killed would be of interest, the tales told by those captured even moreso.
Salih, a pro-Western politician, is head of the PUK's regional government and was attacked after meeting with a U.S. delegation in northern Iraq. State Department officials based in Turkey, regularly travel to northern Iraq to consult with Kurdish officials.
That leads to just the suspicion that Sammy's Mukhabarat (secret police) might have a finger or two in the pie...
PUK fighters say they have captured 10 militants trained in al-Qaida camps and based in a heavily mined, mountainous area.
Kind of the Hole-in-the-Wall Gang, only with turbans instead of cowboy hats...
The PUK spotted the militants last year and has agreed to work with its rival, the Kurdistan Democratic Party, to coordinate action against the group. The Kurdish groups say they have not made any specific requests from Washington but both emphasized that the fight against terrorism should be a global effort.

North Korean asks for asylum at German embassy in Beijing
A North Korean has requested asylum at the German Embassy in Beijing, German diplomatic sources said Friday. The North Korean approached the embassy on Thursday evening and asked for help in going to South Korea, the sources said. German diplomats are involved in a "variety of talks" on the person's status, said the diplomats, who wouldn't give any personal details about the North Korean. The incident came six weeks after a group of 25 North Koreans rushed into Spain's embassy and asked to go to South Korea. They were allowed to leave a day later, traveling to the South via the Philippines.
"Unhappy" is such a relative thing. Send this poor guy to Magdeburg and he'll think he's in the lap of prosperity.

Home Front
G'bye, INS. You're toast.
Congress took the first major step in abolishing the Immigration and Naturalization Service yesterday when the House voted to split it into separate bureaus, one to handle law enforcement and one to administer immigration services. The measure passed 405-9, with only one Republican, seven Democrats and one independent voting against it.

Proposals to reform the INS have been pending for years, but it took the terrorist attacks of September 11 to turn the issue into a matter of national security and put it on a fast legislative track. "The public no longer has confidence in the INS," said Rep. F. James Sensenbrenner Jr., Wisconsin Republican and author of the bill. "The public is right, and this bill abolishes this agency."

Senators are working on a similar bill, and Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat, has called for a hearing next week in the Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on immigration to discuss the legislation he is writing with Sen. Sam Brownback, Kansas Republican.
Isn't it about damned time?

International
Le Pen sez round 'em up and send 'em home
French presidential candidate Jean-Marie Le Pen has turned up his anti-immigration rhetoric, saying on national television that he believes France should set up transit camps where illegal aliens can be housed pending deportation. Speaking Thursday on LCI television, Le Pen said illegal immigrants should be placed in "relatively comfortable transit camps" and then expelled. "What really worries me is that we are being progressively submerged by immense masses from the Third World, and this massive immigration is creating very desocializing conditions," he said on RMC-Info radio. He also said that France's unemployment rate, at about 9 percent, proves that there are not enough jobs to justify immigration. "We don't have enough work for even our own citizens," he said. "The constitution never said that foreigners should have the same rights as the French," he said. "Foreigners who don't do well here have the right to leave."
Everybody else is posting on Le Pen, so I guess I might as well throw one or two in. The Euroleft will rip statements like this, but Le Pen is right correct in his assessment. France has no more obligation to provide the benefits of its citizenship to North Africans than Algeria does to provide the benefits of its citizenship to Frenchies. If they don't contribute to the country, what's the benefit of having them? His remarks wouldn't apply to legal aliens - he qualifies them clearly enough. And they will appeal to those Frenchies cowering in their homes while the streets are ruled by Visigoths Vandals Arabs and other foreigners full of contempt for the patrie and all it stands for.

That said, the Euros are tying themselves in knots expressing their a.)dismay and b.)contempt for Le Pen. My guess is that the left will briefly unite and that Chirac will win the election. The benefit Le Pen will bring is the tug at the left toward the other direction. To avoid having him or someone like him win next time, or the time after that, the 2nd International gang will be tugged back toward the center and away from Brussels. Maybe they won't end up rounding the illegals up, but they might clamp down on more of them coming in and attend more toward having what they've already got assimilate. That would be a good thing for La Belle France.

Learned Elders of Islam on America and Jewish wimmin
Damien Penny links to this find by Rich Lowry, which was originally stuck in The Corner:
The Saudi Information Agency has obtained a tape by prominent government official cleric Shaikh Saad Al-Buraik calling for enslaving Jewish women. The tape is called “a Monkey Desecrates Mosque,” and was delivered in a Riyadh government mosque. The monkey refers to Jews. Al-Buraik was the host of the two-day long telethon raising funds for Palestinians, which raised $109 million. He is also the host of "Religion and Life,” a program on government television Channel One and on MBC television owned by Prince AbdulAziz Ben Fahd. Al-Buraik said on the tape that the money raised would go to Palestinian fighters.

Hilites:
"People should know that Jews are backed by the Christians, and the battle that we are going through is not with Jews only, but also with those who believe that Allah is a third in a Trinity, and those who said that Jesus is the son of Allah, and Allah is Jesus, the son of Mary."

"I am against America until this life ends, until the Day of Judgment;
I am against America even if the stone liquefies
My hatred of America, if part of it was contained in the universe, it would collapse.
She is the root of all evils, and wickedness on earth. Who else implanted the tyrants in our land, who else nurtured oppression? Oh Muslim Ummah don’t take the Jews and Christians as allies."

"Muslim Brothers in Palestine, do not have any mercy neither compassion on the Jews, their blood, their money, their flesh. Their women are yours to take, legitimately. God made them yours. Why don’t you enslave their women? Why don’t you wage jihad? Why don’t you pillage them?"
I was writing earlier today on the subject of hatred. Within hours of the 9-11 attack there were people whimpering "why do they hate us?" and the search was on for the root causes of terrorism. This what a root cause looks like.

By the way, notice how these perverts keep coming back to women? If they're not raping them and then stoning them, they're blowing them up or enslaving them. (Them and their breasts. And their hot, smooth thighs. And their buttocks. Oh, by Allah! Hand me my gun!)

Lionel sulks
Lionel Jospin, the French Prime Minister and defeated presidential candidate, turned a deaf ear to calls yesterday from supporters to swallow his pride and throw his weight behind President Chirac.
Five days after M Jospin, 64, took his Socialists to their biggest electoral debacle since 1969, the embarrassment of colleagues was eclipsing goodwill over his dignified acceptance of his elimination from the race by Jean-Marie Le Pen of the far-right National Front. After starting his withdrawal from political life, "Poor Lionel" now looks to some colleagues as if he is sulking.
Well, that should certainly help the left defeat M. Le Pen. Perhaps he should resign in protest?

Middle East
Eight of nine church kiddies sent home
Eight of the nine youths who walked out of the Church of the Nativity after 23 days of siege were allowed to go home this morning, but one is being kept in custody while the IDF investigates suspicions he was involved in militant activities. Military officials said suspicions that one teenager had helped plant explosives during the 19-month Israeli-Palestinian fighting had delayed the release of all nine, and the group had been kept overnight at a military camp. The nine, ages 14 to 20, left the church, bringing with them two rotting corpses, in an agreement with the Israelis that signaled an easing of the prolonged standoff.

Palestinian officials said the Israelis were still holding Hamza el-Hmur, 16, a resident of the Deheishe refugee camp outside Bethlehem. IDF officials said the youth would be further interrogated, and may be released if his offenses were deemed minor. Earlier today, a Palestinian negotiator threatened to freeze the negotiations unless the nine were freed to their homes.
Guess Mr Negotiator wasn't in the church when he started throwing his weight around. It's always easier to tell the troops at the front to fight to the last man and the last bullet when you're safe in Berlin Ramallah. Guess it's also easier to tell the troops to go without groceries.

PFLP gunny iced in Qalqiliya raid
In Israel's raid of the West Bank town of Qalqiliya, Raed Nazal, the local leader of a radical PLO faction, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, was killed in a firefight, the military said. Sixteen Palestinians were arrested in the town, including several who were on Israel's wanted list. About two dozen Palestinians were arrested in villages near Qalqiliya, Palestinians said.
G'bye, Raed. It wasn't nice knowing you. "Warmest" (heh heh!) regards to Himmler.

Church standoff may be winding down...
At Bethlehem's Church of the Nativity there were signs that a standoff between more than 200 Palestinians, including about 30 militiamen, and Israeli troops was entering the final phase. On Friday, four Palestinians surrendered, the Israeli military said. Palestinians said all four were police officers. Two Palestinians were wounded by Israeli sniper fire while moving in the compound, the army said. The two were evacuated and given medical treatment. The dispute now centers on the fate of six wanted Palestinians in the church - whether they will be escorted to Gaza, as the Palestinians propose, or be sent into exile, as Israel demands, said Palestinian negotiator Salah Taameri, who was to meet Saturday with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to discuss the deal. Capt. Joel Leyden of the Israeli military said negotiations would not be open-ended. "At some point, if we have to use a military option, we will," Leyden said.
Saw Joel on FoxNews this morning. He regards the operation as a hostage situation but recognizes the propaganda dangers of shooting up the church while extracting the gunnies. With four surrendered and two wounded and evac'd, that leave around 181. Jailhouse food is probably starting to look mighty tasty about now. Hope the IDF is sitting in plain sight, contentedly munching four meals a day...

Hezbollah restarts Shebaa Farms festivities
After a lull of nearly two weeks, Hezbollah guerrillas on Friday attacked Israeli positions in a disputed enclave on Lebanon's southern border, triggering Israeli retaliation. The guerrillas fired rockets and machine guns at Israeli hilltop posts in the Shebaa Farms area, Lebanese security officials said. Israeli artillery gunners shelled suspected guerrilla hide-outs on the outskirts of the villages of Kfar Chouba and Halta, about 1.2 miles from Shebaa Farms. In a statement issued in Beirut, Hezbollah said its guerrillas scored "direct hits" in the afternoon attack.
They don't think IDF is going to whack back this time. They're starting to look like the Mean Widdle Kid who comes up and kicks you in the leg, knowing you can't warm his butt like he deserves...

Saudis paid off boomers' families
The Saudi Arabian government paid more than $5,000 each to families of suicide bombers and other Palestinians killed in the terror campaign against Israel, according to documents obtained by Fox News.

The documents, discovered by Israeli intelligence officers, contain a list of 102 deceased Palestinians whose families have each been paid 20,000 Saudi riyals — the equivalent of $5,340 — by the Saudi Interior Ministry. The names on the list were of suicide bombers and Palestinian commanders who had been killed in attacks against Israeli targets. It included the names of some of the highest-profile bombers who have been killed in recent attacks, among them children and women. The documents, if genuine, contradict the Saudi government’s consistent claim that it does not directly pay suicide bombers’ families. The Saudis have repeatedly insisted the money they send the Palestinians goes to rebuilding areas damaged or destroyed by Israeli forces operating in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The Saudi Entity lie? I am so shocked. Shocked, I tell you.

Terror Networks
Shiite mosque bombed in Punjab
A bomb ripped through a Shiite Muslim mosque in Pakistan's eastern Punjab province, killing 12 worshipers, all of them women, and wounding several others. It's not known who planted the device that exploded near midnight Thursday in Bukker. The bomb was apparently planted near the section of the mosque where women pray, said Mohammed Nisar, a doctor at the only hospital in Bukker where the dead and wounded were taken. Police have not made any arrests, but previous attacks against Shiite Muslims have been carried out by members of Sipah-e-Sahaba. The organization reviles Shiite Muslims as outside the pale of Islam.
Decent, upstanding clerics agree that it's better to kill women. They're sinful, y'know. They have those... things on their chests. And hips. And they sway when they walk. Once let them drop their veils and a holy man is lost. And when they lift their burqas... Oh, by Allah! Where's my gun! I need to shoot off clean it!

Islamists kill 16 in Algeria
Islamic militants killed 16 people, including eight children, in an attack on nomadic families in Algeria, the nation's official news service reported Wednesday. The massacre occurred early Wednesday near Tiaret. No group claimed responsibility, but the Armed Islamic Group, Algeria's most radical insurgency movement, is active in the region. On Sunday, assailants killed three shepherds in a nearby area.
Eight children...

General Santos bomb boys say they trained in Malaysia
Claims by detained Filipino bomb suspects that they were trained in Malaysia have given rise to speculation here about coordinated training involving different militant groups in the region. The two were detained on Monday after a series of explosions rocked the southern Philippine port city of General Santos. A Philippine National Police spokesman said in Manila on Tuesday that the two detained men confessed to being part of a group of 10 who trained in Malaysia. The authorities here are interested in finding out where in Malaysia they could have been trained and whether their trainers were Malaysians.
Bet they're real interested. The Malaysians started out not taking this terror war very seriously, then smarted up when they started turning up in herds in their own country and Singapore.

    Indonesia mushy on terrorists
Two Indonesians detained in the Philippines for more than a month on suspicion of terrorism returned home yesterday to a heroes' welcome as the government set in motion a plan to pardon Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Bashir. Both developments drew speculation once again that the government was going soft on terrorism.

In the case of Abu Bakar, legal loopholes and fears of a backlash from Muslim hardliners, were enough for the authorities to push for a pardon just a week after threatening to jail him for a 17-year-old conviction for subversion.

The two detained Indonesians in the Philippines who were released at Ms Megawati's request reportedly under pressure from politicians at home. Hundreds of waiting Muslim activists shouted 'God is Great' and 'Welcome Back Our Heroes' as Tamsil Linrung and Abdul Jamal Balfas arrived at Jakarta's Sukarno-Hatta airport yesterday. Two of them, together with another Indonesian, were arrested at Manila airport on their way to Bangkok on March 13, after explosives were allegedly found in Tamsil's luggage.
Everybody seems to have a soft spot for Megawati but the Islamothugs that are seemingly overrunning the country.
