[DailyCaller] The IRS placed a tax lien on Hunter Biden seeking $112,805 in unpaid taxes from 2015, according to records the Daily Caller News Foundation obtained.
The federal agency issued the previously unreported lien in November 2018 and it seeks unpaid taxes for a year in which Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, served on the boards of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings and the Chinese private equity firm BHR Partners. I do know this from reading the tax lien - the tax was assessed (12/5/16) about six or seven weeks after the second & final deadline for filing the 2015 1040, which is Oct. 15th. That seems right, even if it's a bit slow. The tax itself's about 100K and the rest is interest and penalties, the obvious one being the late payment penalty. The income involved in a 100K tax liability's about 253K (that's the tax divided by the top marginal rate in 2015 of 39.6%). The only other thing to note is the source for this lien - the "Small Business / Self-Employed Area #3" (SBSE for short). That's because K-1's are involved. The K-1 form is how an individual reports income from a partnership, S corporation, estate and / or trust on their tax return. It's kind of like 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, etc. but it's a real pain in the ass form with 900 different potential flavors of income on it.
"We have made a demand for payment of this liability, but it remains unpaid," the IRS stated in the lien notice, which it filed with the Washington, D.C., Recorder of Deeds. "Therefore, there is a lien in favor of the United States on all property and rights to property belonging to this taxpayer for the amount of these taxes."
The tax lien was issued against Hunter Biden and his ex-wife, Kathleen Biden, but was delivered to the same address Hunter Biden has on file with Connecticut’s Judicial Branch, an address that is also linked to his law firm, Owasco PC. That part makes no sense to me. First off, the address of record with the IRS is the address given on the last filed tax return so the reference to Connecticut’s Judicial Branch - I'm like, what the fuck is that? Second, are they excusing this somehow? It's all bullshit.
Oh - one more tax geek side issue - Kathleen's gonna have to file some sort of innocent spouse defense on this one unless Hunter pays it off first. She's in their crosshairs as well.
The city of Washington DC hit him with a similar tax lien for just under $49K. He paid that one off pretty quickly and it was removed soon after.
Sadly, though, I predict the IRS will pursue this matter with the same vigor and doggedness they have pursued the Rev. Al Sharpton on his 4.5 million payroll tax bill (now only 2.5 mill!), which is to say none at all.

Re IRS sloth vs Hunter paying off the D.C. tax bill, a thought: Dad and Zero had sway over the Feds; less so wrt the D.C. gov, which prob'y had leverage over Alley Cat ... e.g. the potential to slap a boot on his car, or maybe D.C. cops' knowledge of his drug deals and other unsavory extracurricular activities ?

Also worth remembering - at this point the IRS is simply trying to collect on an existing debt. The shell-game bullshit w/ Burisma, PrivatBank & the other companies has a) only recently come to light (like the last day or so) which means b) it's not on the IRS' radar. Yet.

Right, Raj. This thing reeks of offshore-enabled tax evasion nd money laundering. Consider:
1. We know that Hunter ("H") was drawing $50k per month from Burisma ie $600k, minimum, in officially-reported (by Burisma) annual income.
2) From your calculations, the IRS detected unpaid taxes on ca. $250k of income. That means that H either
a) paid tax on the remaining $350k,
or
b) found a way to shelter the $350 legally
or
c) hid the remaining $350k from the feds through tax evasion, perhaps via Chinese offshore vehicles.
Of the three possibilities, a) seems extremely unlikely. Why or how would he declare only a portion of income that is paid in recurring monthly distributions?
I suppose b) is possible ie he could have sheltered the $350k - I have no idea what vehicle he would have used.
But the existence of "China Bank" AND H's pre-existing financial relationships with ChiCom characters who are connected to PRC poobahs AND this character's rather pronounced moral turpitude suggest option c) as the most likely explanation for the missing $350k.

The assessment so far (including an answer to Lex's multiple choice list), which includes some opinion / speculation:
1) I believe the IRS has a 2015 tax return from Hunter that has the Burisma income in full. He fell short of full payment for some reason. Just remember - stripper & blow habits can be expensive!
2) There's a definite shell game going on w/ the Burisma bank, PrivatBank & the other clowns. This is generally done to make it harder to trace this to that to the other thing, hence the moniker 'shell game', which should not be confused with clusterfuck, shitshow (at least 250 by now!) or other superlative. This is a different matter from potential money laundering or other income evading maneuver.
3) This discussion so far completely ignores the impact of Hunter getting sweet, sweet director gigs on that Communist Chinese company (that part's a given, amirite?), although that might be for a different year / years (no lookup on that point right now). Lastly, there are a lot of unknowns right now, making it tough to assess accurately. I think this makes things more likely than not that something is missing, if ya know what I mean like unreported income...
Oh - and the $ from Burisma goes into the Privatbank connected company that Hunter Biden & an 'associate' have ownership / equity stakes in, so that's how the money's moved, generally speaking.
So, right now - your a) choice seems like the default answer until something else is unearthed, which we both think is likely / very likely, at which point c) is the overwhelming favorite.
Should we take book on this, get some bets going? Is that even allowed on the Burg?

This is going to an ongoing soap opera. Hunter was on Burisma's board of directors from April 2014 to April 2019. Quite the few years to answer for.
In addition, we know Rosemont Seneca got at least $3 million (over 3 years) from Burisma by way of Latvia and Cypress. Did Hunter's "salary" (for 1 or 2 board meetings and conferences / year <-- official explanation) come from this money or was this in addition to Hunter's Burisma salary? My guess is in addition or mixed together, since Hunter's board tenure and Rosemont Seneca money transfers overlap but don't coincide.

Holy Hair-Sniff! "Source and destination" sounds rather precise and authentic.
So the trail may well look like this:
a) The company, Burisma, generates cash from selling gas, and manages its revenues in an account or accounts at its bank, PrivatBank-- which was sanctioned by the IMF (the motion notes that the IMF between 2017 and 11 September 2019 froze transactions with PrivatBank)
b) PrivatBank presumably sent funds from the Burisma account to the other named party, Bank of China
c) Bank of China then presumably made payoffs to Rosemont Seneca ie Hunter and Kerry's son's slush fund (which itself had ties to ChiCom investment funds.

In response to a question by an attendee at the event, Biden elaborated on his answer, contending that Trump’s party has not done enough to hold the president accountable. "There are some really decent Republicans that are out there still, but here’s the problem right now," he said. "They’ve got to step up."
Biden, 77, who served two terms as vice president to former President Barack Obama and spent 35 years in Congress, has been criticized by progressive Democrats who say he is out of touch with the party’s leftward drift and is not interested in reforming the U.S. political system.
Biden has previously said he would like to name a woman and/or a person of color as his running mate if he is the nominee.
