Rantburg access has been all over the place for the past few days. This is why I've put off moving the server for so long. Murphy's Law is immutable. Most of the things that could go wrong have gone wrong.
Step 1: Overwrite the drive containing all our backups. (Gasp. Call self an idiot.)
Step 2: Break the database, and I mean seriously... (Google mightily for a couple days to find a hint how to fix it. Observation: Most hints are bullsit.)
Step 3: Change DNS servers. (Been putting that off for a long time, because it’s dangerous.)
Step 4: Try and figure where the Burg disappeared to. (France, at one point.)
You get the idea. If you're reading this, you got here from https://grampaw.org/rantburg or you carefully entered https://www.rantburg.com, not https://rantburg.com. One works, the other doesn't, at least at the moment. Apache sez they both go to the same place, one's an alias for the other. (UPDATE: Next time I clicked on it the www link had ceased working. I hadn't done anything in the meantime...)
Anyway, I'm continuing to make repairs. I'm hoping not to break anything else. Thank you for your patience, assuming you have any left. I'm pretty short, myself. At least Apache and Postgresql are shut down on the old server so I can go get it.

Thank you Fred and all others involved for producing the RANT BURG site.

Thanks so very much Fred. I trust the community here at the Burg far more than other news sites, and I find the comments the highlight of most morning news reads. God bless your efforts and those here who care about this site. In the coming months we all face ugly possibilities but I am confident that here i can believe what i read, especially when is is 180 out from the MSM, and now far too often even Fox.

It's been a rough couple of days for readers without Rantburg. I guess it's like an addiction. Rantingly, Bongino and Breitbart help but they're just not Rantburg. I finally did a DuckDuckGo search, found https://grampaw.org/rantburg and clicked on it. Does Fred need us to hit the tip jar? I can do that.

We're flat broke at the moment. I need to hold another bleg as soon as I get thing running normally, assuming I ever do.

[Jpost] The GNA and LNA signed a ceasefire deal in October and the United Nations ...where theory meets practice and practice loses... has been pushing a political dialog aimed at elections next year as a solution to Libya's long-running conflict.
Eastern-based Libyan forces have intercepted a Ottoman Turkish ship under a Jamaican flag heading to the port of Misrata in western Libya, their front man said on Monday, a possible new flashpoint in the conflict after weeks of truce.
The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... is the main foreign backer of the internationally recognized Government of National Accord (GNA), in the west, which has for years been fighting the eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA).
LNA front man Ahmed al-Mismari added that the commercial cargo ship, Mabrouka, had 17 crew, including nine Ottoman Turkish nationals, and containers that had not yet been inspected. LNA naval forces stopped it near the eastern port of Derna, he said.
A spokesperson for Turkey's Ministry of Foreign Affairs was not immediately available to comment.
The GNA and LNA signed a ceasefire deal in October and the United Nations has been pushing a political dialog aimed at elections next year as a solution to Libya's long-running conflict.
But both sides have stopped short of withdrawing forces from the front line, as demanded by the truce, while an incident in southern Libya on Sunday, when LNA forces seized a military camp, has further tested the agreement.
Earlier on Monday, Mismari accused Turkey of continuing to supply arms and fighters to the GNA. The LNA is backed by Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt.
A panel of UN experts has cited the foreign supporters of both sides as breaching an arms embargo on Libya.

[PJMedia] Gordon Chang, an American of Chinese ancestry who spent decades in China and has extensively written about the threat of China, warned that China meddled in the 2020 presidential election and engaged in "an act of war" against the United States by enflaming the antifa/Black Lives Matter riots in American cities over the summer.
"China certainly wanted to influence the outcome of the election," Chang said in an interview with American Thought Leaders, a show run by The Epoch Times. "So for instance, during the Democratic Party ...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. I think I can venture to say that we understand China's policy better than Chang. We negotiate with curveballs bastitches throw at us daily. Believe me, to their thinking; one doesn't have to sit and brainstorm over 'Let's see... how to screw America today'. Or anybody. They just buy out mercenary politicians and middling media, honeytrap or blackmail the occasional judge or bureaucrat, etcetera.
They let the globalist 'philanthropists' and criminally invested legislators and mobocrats sink their resources in their own civilization's destruction; using very legal and judicially unassailable means of plodding ahead in their own part of the world.
'American Thought Leaders' are perplexed as to how China manages to screw everyone without consequence... and come up with McCarthyesque explanations which brush the domestic issue away and look outward. This only helps the enemy.
The CCP kills its criminals and 'protesters' with no obligatory explanation to western liberal justice theories. The result is, we have ANTIFAs and BLMs, while they don't. No obstructionists, no mobs to commandeer governement or dictate policy, no weed addled man-bìtches in campuses to appease. That alone, my friends, is a big plus in today's game.
Simply put, it is not China's industriousness at f#cking others that allows for the appearance of it surging ahead while others flounder with their domestic troubles. It is the lack of balls in administrations that cannot deepsix their dissidentstraitors rebels mobs protesters.
[of course this is just my own opinion, not shared by many]

^ Very astute. Much of what you say could've been, probably was, applied to the Soviet motors operand during the cold war. The big difference now is that China is part of the global capitalist economy.
So they have another vector along which to attack us. As Ilyich put it, "The capitalists will sell us the rope with which to hang themselves." Necessary modifier: our CRONY capitalist oligarchs.
[Breitbart] Nearly 400 incidents relating to the praising of terrorism or provocations relating to terrorism have been reported in schools across La Belle France from November 4th to the 30th.
The French Ministry of National Education reported 393 such incidents, stating that most were related to provocations, protests, or apologies for terrorism.
From the death of 47-year-old history and geography teacher Samuel Paty — who was beheaded on October 16th in the street by a Chechen refugee after showing his class cartoons of the Islamic prophet Mohammed — to November 3rd, 400 incidents were also reported, 20 Minutes reports.
Of the total number of incidents, 90 per cent of the cases involved pupils and the rest involved the parents of pupils and even staff, with 286 reports made to the police and 136 to French prosecutors.
Nearly half of the incidents, 48 per cent, took place at middle schools, 18 per cent at high schools, and 11 per cent at vocational colleges. While 23 per cent, nearly a quarter, occurred at primary schools.
According to 20 Minutes, 44 pupils have been expelled, 131 given temporary suspensions, four have been reprimanded, and 48 have been given warnings.
The General Inspectorate of Education also noted that schools have reacted well to incidents within the classroom setting, but have not been as vigilant on monitoring students’ social media statements.
The report noted that social media played a large part in spreading information about Paty after he had shown the Mohammed cartoons to his class.
The father of a pupil at Paty’s school, Brahim Chninam, launched a social media campaign against the teacher and was even found to have been in direct contact with the Chechen refugee before the terror attack.
Police took Chninam, along with his Islamist ally Abdelhakim Sefrioui, into custody following the murder.
The Ministry of National Education report supports claims by a French judicial source last month who stated that the number of threats against teachers and other public figures was "exploding" following the killing of Paty.

[NPASYRIA] Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, formerly al-Nusra, before that it was called something else ...al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, from which sprang the Islamic State... (HTS) announced on Saturday the arrest of a number of Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) agents in Idlib Governorate, northwestern Syria.
HTS launched raids, carrying out arrests of people it says belong to ISIS, even executing some of these alleged ISIS members.
A military source told North Press that the security apparatus of HTS raided two caves occupied by ISIS — one of them near the city of Idlib, and the second in the city of Darkush in its western countryside.
Numerous human rights ...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you... and press reports confirm that the areas of Operations Peace Spring and Olive Branch (Ottoman Turkish-backed invasions and occupations of northern Syria’s Sere Kaniye and Afrin regions), as well as Idlib, have turned into a haven for leaders and members of ISIS after its military defeat in early 2019.
The Global Coalition previously carried out an airdrop operation that killed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, in a town that close to the Ottoman Turkish border.
The Global Coalition targeted both the front man of ISIS, Abu al-Hassan al-Muhajir, and media official Ahmed al-Mustafa, in the Jarabulus countryside in the Euphrates Shield areas controlled by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... The source added that the security apparatus arrested a number of ISIS cells after sporadic festivities with them in the area.
Earlier, sources reported that Turkey is trying to pressure HTS with the aim of presenting itself as a moderate faction, but it is doing so gradually, slowly, and unannounced.
Idlib governorate witnessed several bombings and liquidations of members and officials of HTS, which accused the ISIS of being behind them.

[NPASYRIA] A military source in Daraa governorate, south Syria, revealed on Monday, that the Russian forces issued a decision to freeze the activities of the Eighth Brigade outside the town of Busra al-Sham in the southeastern countryside of Daraa.
The headquarters of the Russian supported and pro-Fifth Corps Eighth Brigade, led by Ahmad al-Awda, is located in Busra al-Sham town.
"The freezing decision was handed over by Russian officers, who came from the Hmeimim military base, to Ahmad al-Awda, after a meeting took place at the brigade headquarters on Sunday," the military source told North Press.
The source pointed out that the closed meeting was strongly worded against al-Awda.
During a closed meeting in November, al-Awda called on the Russian President’s Special Envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, to seriously consider re-arming the brigade and providing it with medium and heavy weapons, in addition to recruiting local members from the governorates of Daraa and Suwayda to counter the Iranian expansion.
The source added that the reason for the Russian reaction to the leadership of the Eighth Brigade is that it crossed the lines drawn for it by the Russian forces.
In November, the forces of the Second Brigade intervened in the eastern countryside of Daraa and clashed with government forces there, without coordination with or informing the Russian Operations Room about that.
The military source indicated that the strong tone directed to the commanders of the Eighth Brigade, "may turn towards the possibility of permanently dissolving it in southern Syria, and assigning the tasks of the control in Daraa to the government forces."

Infighting, or Israeli F-35s bombing the place for the Nth time? Hezbollah or another group of Iranian proxies? No doubt it will be revealed later today.
Update: see here.
[Jpost] Series of powerful explosions were heard in the southern suburbs of the Syrian city of Quneitra, near the Israeli-Syrian border, Hezbollah-affiliated al-Manar news reported, quoting Syrian television.
The explosions were in Israeli territory, according to Syrian TV. It was later reported to be a military drill. Late November, Israel acknowledged a series of Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... s against military targets belonging to the Iranian Quds Force and the Syrian army, in response to explosives that had been placed along the border by an Iranian terrorist cell.
Syria’s SANA news agency said at that time that the strikes, near the village of Rwihinah, south of Quneitra near the Israeli border, and near Jabal Mane near the town of Kiswah south of Damascus, caused "only material damage."
The strikes then hit eight targets from the Golan Heights to Damascus, including an Iranian military complex near Damascus International Airport; a secret military barracks that acts as a housing complex for senior Iranian officials as well as visiting delegations; a command post for Division 7 of the Syrian army, which cooperates with the Quds Force; and mobile surface-to-air missile trucks that fired toward Israeli jets during the strikes.

[NPASYRIA] Two convoys of Syrian activists and journalists left Idlib towards Ottoman Turkish territory on Monday morning, awaiting transfer to Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... after they obtained asylum.
Informed sources told North Press that 35 journalists from Idlib and the countryside of Aleppo travelled to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire... through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing after their asylum applications were accepted in Germany.
The sources added that a second batch will be sent to La Belle France.
The sources indicated that Syrian organizations, in cooperation with Reporters Without Borders, worked on journalists’ asylum requests during the attack by government and Russian forces last year on the Idlib countryside.
The Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression (SCM) announced that it had compiled an initial list that included the names of more than 470 journalists, and collaborated with countries that expressed interest in resettlement.
In 2018, La Belle France, Germany, and Spain accepted the requests of 31 journalists out of 65 from southern Syria whose asylum applications were submitted according to the SCM.
