[Bangla Daily Star] France yesterday rejected demands from an Al-Qaeda cell holding five kidnapped Frenchies in northern Africa that it negotiate their freedom with Osama bin Laden and pull its troops out of Afghanistan.
"France cannot accept that its policy be dictated by anyone outside," new Foreign Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said in a statement after Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) head Abdelmalek Droukdel made the demands in an audio recording on Thursday.
The message said that France would have to negotiate personally with bin Laden to secure the release of five kidnapped Frenchies seized in Niger in September along with a Togolese and a Madagascan and believed held in Mali.
The recording, broadcast by Arab satellite network Al-Jazeera, said that to ensure the hostages' safety, France must "hasten and take your soldiers out of Afghanistan according to a specific timetable that you announce officially."
"France is doing all in its power for the hostages, wherever they are, to be freed safe and sound," Alliot-Marie said.
Droukdel, alias Abou Moussaab Abdelouadoud, said that "any form of negotiations on this issue in the future will be done with no one other than our Sheikh Osama bin Laden... and according to his terms".

France--now would be a good time to dust off your nukes, warm them up, and point them to Al Qaeda's power centers. Things are coming to a head.

Making such demands should automatically upgrade the status of the terrorists from "with prejudice", to "with extreme prejudice."
As in, "Don't just use your machete. Use the chainsaw."
[Arab News] Nigeria seized $9.9 million worth of heroin concealed in auto parts shipped from Iran, its anti-drugs agency said on Friday, days after the West African country reported Tehran to the UN over an illegal arms seizure.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) said the haul at the Apapa seaport in Lagos on Thursday, one of its biggest recent seizures, was based on "strong intelligence" received from foreign collaborators about four months ago.
Based on the intelligence, the agency had closely monitored the consignment and some key players behind its shipment before it arrived in Lagos, NDLEA front man Mitchell Ofoyeju said.
"The NDLEA ... decided to get a welder to cut open the engine parts and behold, we found hidden inside them 130 kg of heroin with a street value of about 1.5 billion naira ($9.91 million)," Ofoyeju told Rooters.
"The consignment was from Iran and we have jugged three Nigerians connected with the illicit drugs."
Nigeria reported Tehran to the United Nations, aka the Oyster Bay Chowder and Marching Society Security Council last week after its secret service intercepted an illegal arms shipment from Iran at its main port of Lagos last month.
Rockets and other explosives hidden in containers of building materials were shipped to Nigeria from Iran in an apparent breach of UN sanctions imposed over Tehran's refusal to halt a sensitive nuclear program.
Nigeria is not a major narcotics consumer, but like several other coastal West African nations, it is a major transit hub for trafficking in hard drugs from Asia and Latin America to Western markets thanks to lax customs controls and corruption.

From the article, it sounds like he wasn't one of the attackers. It's supposedly a six member group with a plan to attack within a February-March timeframe.
[Dawn] Unknown assailants shot up an Ahmedi worship place in Lahore's Mughalpura area, DawnNews reported.
The gunnies, however, managed to escape after security guards deputed at the worship place opened retaliatory fire.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Police said the worship place was attacked by four to five assailants and that the firing lasted for a few minutes.
The attackers were using small weapons, police said, adding that empty bullet casings had been recovered from the site.
Ahmedis, a religious minority in Pakistain, have been targeted by snuffies in the past. In May 2010, at least 93 people were killed when snuffies attacked two Ahmedi worship places in Lahore.

[Pak Daily Times] Suspected US missiles destroyed a moving vehicle near Pakistain's border with Afghanistan on Friday, killing four alleged Orcs and similar vermin inside it, intelligence officials said.
The attack by unmanned drones near Marsi Khel village in North Wazoo is the second in a week as the US intensifies its search-and-destroy missions in the strongholds of Taliban and al Qaeda-linked fighters.
The aircraft fired two missiles at the vehicle on Friday afternoon, according to two Pak intelligence officials.
The identity of those killed was not immediately known but they were suspected to be terrorists, the officials said. The US has launched more than 100 missile strikes in Pakistain so far this year.

[Pak Daily Times] The Taliban fired missiles from within Afghanistan on Eid, that killed a woman and two children and injured eight others in the Pak village of Shalozan, sources told Daily Times.
According to the sources, the Taliban fired a series of missiles on the village from three kilometres away. The majority of missiles hit trees in the area, but two to three different missiles fell on houses in the village, killing a woman and two children and injuring eight others, some of them critically. The tribal elders of Kurram Agency, home of an intricately interconnected web of poverty, ignorance, and religious fanaticism condemned the attack. Also, in Parachinar, tribal elders belonging to the Turi and Bangash tribes protested after Eid against what they said was "state terrorism" and "step-mother treatment". Earlier the Eid congressional prayers were held in the central Eidgah of Parachinar, where more than fifty thousand people participated. Ulema and tribal eldersm addressing the Eid prayers and later on during the protest demonstration, said that Parachinar was under continuous siege for the last four years.

[Asharq al-Aswat] Israeli warplanes struck three sites in the Islamist-run Paleostinian Gazoo Strip on Friday, wounding six people after a rocket and mortar rounds were fired into Israel from the coastal enclave.
"The targeting of these terror-linked sites was in response to the firing of rockets at Israel's southern communities over the past two days," the military said.
In a statement, the military said 10 mortar rounds and a military-grade Grad-type rocket were fired into Israel from Gazoo, causing no casualties.
Adham Abu Selmiya, a front man for the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run medical services in Gazoo, said four people were maimed in a strike that targeted a house east of the central town of Deir al-Balah.
The injured, who included two women, were taken to Shuhada al-Aqsa hospital, he told AFP.
A separate air strike on the southern town of Khan Yunis lightly maimed two people, one of them a child, Abu Selmiya added.
The Israeli military said the strike near Deir al-Balah targeted two tunnels being dug towards the border with southern Israel, but had no details on the attack in Khan Yunis.
Earlier on Friday, a Soviet-designed Grad rocket fired from Gazoo damaged a tanker truck in an attack the Israeli military described as "the first of its kind for several months."
Grad-type rockets have a range of up to 40 kilometres (25 miles), about twice the distance of the home-made Qassam rockets usually used by Paleostinian gun-hung tough guys in Gazoo.
Israeli media reported that one of the mortar rounds fired at Israel was a white phosphorus bomb. Police could not immediately confirm the report, however Paleostinian gun-hung tough guys have fired such projectiles in the past.
Israel came under heavy criticism during the 22-day offensive it launched on Gazoo in December 2008 for using these rounds and has since then changed its procedures for using phosphorus.
Under international law, white phosphorus is banned for use near civilians, but is permitted for creating a smoke screen.
An Islamist orc group, the Al-Nasser Brigades, grabbed credit for Friday's mortar attack, saying it had fired six rounds in "retaliation for the assassination by Israel."
The statement was an apparent reference to an Israeli strike on Wednesday that killed Islam Yassin, 39, and his brother Mohammed, 20, both members of the Army of Islam, a radical group with an ideology similar to Al-Qaeda.

An unprovoked, premeditated attack by the perfidious Juice on the innocent and peace-loving people of Paleostine - or what you and I would call 'counter-battery fire'.
#3
The IDF should inform the paleos that 1/2 km either side of the source of a rocket/mortar fire incident will be napalmed to ashes. When it happens they should carry out the threat. It wouldn't take too many rinses before the perps got a clue.

[An Nahar] Security authorities on Friday handed over radical Islamist holy man Omar Bakri to Military Prosecutor Saqr Saqr for a retrial.
Lebanese police on Sunday jugged Bakri, just days after the formerly British-based holy man boasted he would "not spend one day" of a life sentence behind bars.
Bakri, a fundamentalist Sunni Mohammedan who has praised the September 11, 2001 attacks and hailed the hijackers as the "magnificent 19," was sentenced to life by a Lebanese military court on Thursday.
The 50-year-old, who lived in Britain for 20 years, was found guilty, along with more than 40 other Lebanese, Paleostinians, Syrians and Saudis, of "incitement to murder, theft and the possession of arms and explosives."
The day after the sentence was handed down he vowed he would "not spend one day in prison."
Bakri, who failed to show up for sentencing on Thursday, said he had not been formally told the court would issue a verdict and insisted he was innocent.
