Mombasa -- One person was killed in the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa yesterday after youths rioted to protest the killing of an alleged Islamist militant.
Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Hassan Guti on Saturday as he was driving in the city with his wife and niece. Riots broke out yesterday after his burial. Police officially denied involvement in the killing, but sources within the force said Guti was slain by the elite Anti-Terrorism Police Unit.
Sort of like the RAB but not as experienced. The RAB would never have permitted a riot after a "crossfire"...
Police said Guti was wanted on twelve systems linked to the shooting of a senior police officer in Mombasa in August and was facing a murder charge for a separate incident.
So his mother likely didn't love him...

KISMAYO, Somalia -- Somalia's Al Qaeda-backed Al Shabaab militants have fled strategic Kudhaa Island on the Indian Ocean on Monday afternoon as witnesses reported of two landmine blasts in the southern port city of Kismayo, Garowe Online reports. Al Shabaab fighters in armored fighting vehicles retreated from Kudhaa, kidnapping undisclosed number of civilians according to residents.
The immediate pullout by militants is unclear but the move follows remarks being made by Jubaland spokesman Abdinasir Serar Mah on Sunday. Mah vowed that Jubaland forces will be taking back Kudhaa from Al Shabaab by force.
Kudhaa, 70km southwest of the southern port city of Kismayo was once a spot for illegal charcoal trade.
Torrential rains made the only road that leads to Kudhaa inaccessible, security sources unveil.
Meanwhile, two separate roadside bombings targeted Jubaland security forces in Kismayo, resulting in no casualties. On Monday morning, vehicle-borne improvised explosive device got foiled shortly after troop-transport vehicle belonging to Jubaland army drove nearby along Haji Jama road in Fanole neighborhood.
Overnight on Sunday, another landmine explosion hit armored vehicle near Hared mosque in Kismayo's Gulwade neighborhood.

[Ynet] High-ranking Egyptian officials said on Saturday that Egypt did not blame Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, for the latest string of attacks in the Sinai Peninsula, and placed responsibility with krazed killer groups in the Gazoo Strip who infiltrated into the peninsula.
Speaking to Paleostinian news agency Ma'an, the officials said that relations between Egypt and Hamas were "good," including relations with Hamas leadership outside of Gazoo.
The officials also asked for the Paleostinian factions to unite quickly, and for the Paleostinian Authority to return to the Strip in order to continue with its actions, despite tensions between Fatah and Hamas after kabooms on homes of Fatah members in the Strip that occurred between Thursday and Friday.

It will be intriguing to see how this plays out. Hamas controls the tunnel infrastructure in Gaza, and meters heavy discipline to transgressors. Egypt (who are trying to maintain relations with Gaza)are now specifically declaring the attacks were perpetrated from Gaza but not Hamas. We read in WOT Background that the Sinai terrorists (? Gazans) have an affiliation with IS. IS and Hamas are ideologically at odds. The question...has IS infiltrated Gaza or have Hamas and IS entered a new cooperation?

has IS infiltrated Gaza or have Hamas and IS entered a new cooperation?
A good question, Incredulous. As I recall, ISIS, as it was then, appeared in the Gaza Strip a year or so ago, and upon causing trouble was slapped down hard by Hamas. That was then. Clearly Hamas is supporting Ansar Bayt al Maqdis in the Sinai with materiel if not men or safe havens... and ABaM just swore fealty to IS. So an additional question is whether Hamas still feels the need to make nice with the Mamluks currently running Egypt, the ones who've closed their crossing and destroyed almost all the tunnels, and whether that's more important than helping those attacking the Mamluks who destroyed the Egyptian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, which previously and briefly ruled Egypt.
[BBC] A jihadist group which has carried out a series of attacks on security forces in Egypt's Sinai peninsula has pledged allegiance to Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (IS).
Ansar Beit al-Maqdis announced the move on a Twitter account in Arabic, saying IS promised "a new dawn raising the banner of monotheism".
IS has taken over large parts of conflict-racked Syria and Iraq, declaring a cross-border caliphate.
Ansar Beit al-Maqdis had previously denied allying itself with IS.
The group used the same Twitter account last week to dismiss reports that it had pledged allegiance to the IS leader, His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi ...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us... In its latest pronouncement, Ansar Beit al-Maqdis - or Champions of Jerusalem - made no reference to its previous denial, but said Baghdadi had been chosen by God to set up a new caliphate.

[FOXNEWS] A jacket wallah-- dressed in a school uniform and apparently carrying explosives in a student rusksack-- killed at least 48 people at a boys high school in northeastern Nigeria Monday.
The holy warrior group Boko Haram ... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality... is believed to have carried out the attack, police told the BBC. The terror group--whose name roughly translates to "Western education is forbidden"-- has regularly targeted schools during a deadly five-year insurgency aimed at establishing an Islamic state. The gunnies have initiated violent attacks to prevent children from going to school, believing girls should not attend school and boys should only receive an Islamic education.
Survivors of Monday's bombing said the explosives detonated during the weekly assembly at the Government Technical Science College in Potiskum, capital of the Yobe state. An estimated 2,000 students had gathered in the school's hall at the time of the blast.
"We were waiting for the principal to address us, around 7:30 a.m., when we heard a deafening sound and I was blown off my feet, people started screaming and running, I saw blood all over my body," 17-year-old student Musa Ibrahim Yahaya said from the general hospital, where he was being treated for head wounds.
Hospital workers say at least 79 victims are being treated and amputations are likely. A morgue worker told the News Agency that Dare Not be Named at least 48 people--ranging in age from 11 to 20 years old-- had died. The hospital was so overcrowded that some patients were squashed two to a bed. A resident told the BBC there were parents wailing at the sight of their children's bodies at the hospital.
Soldiers rushed to the grisly scene, but were chased away by people throwing stones, angry at the military's inability to halt a 5-year-old Islamic insurgency that has killed thousands and driven hundreds of thousands from their homes. The region has been in the grip of fighting between government forces and Boko Haram.
Garba Alhaji, father of one of the maimed students, said the school did not have proper security. "I strongly blame the Yobe state government for not fencing the college," he said, adding that just three months ago a bomb was discovered in the school and removed by an anti-bomb squad.

They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ... rebels, two days after the U.N. Security Council took a similar step, accusing the trio of role in Yemen's unrest.
The U.S. Treasury said it was blacklisting Saleh, Abdullah Yahya al-Hakim and Abd al-Khaliq al-Huthi "for engaging in acts that directly or indirectly threaten the peace, security, or stability of Yemen."

A report published by Al Arabiya News last month revealed how Saleh was "actively helping the Houthi rebels take over the country as part of his plan to return to power."

[IsraelTimes] Hours after the attempted arson of a Gay Paree kosher restaurant, a group of French teenagers assaulted a Jewish adolescent outside a school.
The assault happened Thursday in the 3rd arrondissement, or district, 500 yards north of Bastille, in front of the private high school Progress, which has a large number of Jewish students.
The victim, who was wearing a kippah, was standing in front of the school with some friends when a group of approximately 15 youths of African descent ages 16-19 assaulted him, according to a report of the incident by the National Bureau for Vigilance against Anti-Semitism, or BNVCA.
They beat the victim, who was not named, with their fists and elbows before fleeing the scene. He received medical attention and was given two days sick leave to recover from the assault, BNVCA reported.
Less than 12 hours earlier, unidentified vandals had tried to burn down the Zekai sushi restaurant in the 17th arrondissement located 4 miles west of the school. The cases reportedly are unrelated.
The vandals hurled stones at the restaurant's armored glass door late at night but failed to punch a hole through it, the news website of the Tribune Juive newspaper reported. They also tried to set off a Molotov cocktail before fleeing, according to BNVCA.
BNVCA, a nongovernmental watchdog, said the restaurant â an upscale eatery situated in a chic neighborhood near the Arc de Triomphe â has been targeted in the past by passers-by who shouted "Dirty Jews" into the restaurant before fleeing. The restaurant displays a kosher certificate on its front door.
Both incidents were reported to the police, BNVCA said.
A few days earlier in Poland, things went very differently, thanks to local passers-by:
The suspect, identified in Polish media as a 30-year-old man whose first name is Pawel, hit the victim outside a store on Friday, causing him injuries that required his hospitalization.
Police found Pawel L., as the news website fakt.pl identified him, being subdued by passersby who intervened after witnessing the attack. The report did not say whether the victim of Pawel L.'s alleged assault was Jewish, but prosecutors intend to charge him with perpetrating a hate crime, as well as assault, according to Fakt.
Pawel L. was taken into custody immediately at the scene and, if convicted, may face a jail term of up to 10 years.

[ABCNEWS.GO] A suspected U.S. drone strike on a sprawling Taliban hideout in a northwestern tribal region bordering Afghanistan killed six snuffies on Tuesday, two intelligence officials said.
The officials said some suspects were also maimed when four missiles struck the compound in the town of Datta Khel in the North Wazoo tribal region. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the media.
The officials provided no further details and only said some foreigners were included among the dead.
North Waziristan was considered to be a strong base for local and foreign snuffies until June 15 when The Mighty Pak Army launched a major operation there to eliminate those accused of orchestrating acts of terrorism in Pakistain and neighboring Afghanistan.
The Mighty Pak Army says it has cleared the snuffies from more than 80 percent of the region.
U.S. drone strikes are widely unpopular in Pakistain and are seen as a violation of national illusory sovereignty. The U.S. authorities have long used them to target snuffies in areas inaccessible to The Mighty Pak Army. The latest drone strike came hours after two bombings and a murderous Moslem attack on a checkpoint in Pakistain killed six people.
In the first attack, snuffies struck a security checkpoint in the northwestern Orakzai Agency ... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers... , killing three paramilitary soldiers, government official Naeem Khan said. [AnNahar] Britannia has used its unmanned aerial drones in Iraq for the first time to strike Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... jihadists, the Ministry of Defense said Monday.
Over the weekend, a remotely-piloted Reaper aircraft successfully launched a missile attack on IS turbans near Baiji, north of Baghdad, where they were planting improvised bombs, the MoD said.
The Reaper drones have been re-deployed from Afghanistan, where Britannia this month ended its combat operations after 13 years fighting the Taliban insurgency.
"A series of coalition missions were conducted near Baiji, north of Baghdad, where ISIL (Islamic State) faceless myrmidons were laying improvised bombs," the MoD said.
"The Reaper Remotely Piloted Air System, using procedures identical to those of manned aircraft, successfully attacked the faceless myrmidons using a Hellfire missile.
"UK Reaper continued to provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assistance to coalition aircraft which enabled them to conduct further strikes."
Reapers are remotely controlled by pilots based at the Waddington Royal Air Force base in Lincolnshire, eastern England.
The U.S.-made drones are normally armed with two Paveway laser-guided bombs and four Hellfire missiles for precision strikes.
Britannia also has eight Cyprus-based RAF Tornado fighter jets conducting bombing raids on IS targets in Iraq.
The MoD also said Monday that the Tornadoes last week used Brimstone precision-guided missiles to destroy IS armed pick-up trucks.
And on Sunday, an RAF aircraft destroyed a shipping container west of Baghdad.
The MoD said the container was "used by the faceless myrmidons to store equipment to support extortion and control of the local population."
Meanwhile other RAF aircraft, including tankers, transport and surveillance platforms, also continue to support coalition air operations.
Britannia has provided heavy weapons to Kurdish peshmerga fighters battling IS, and training in how to use them. London however has repeatedly insisted it will not be deploying combat troops on the ground.

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] An image of the close aide of ISIS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, believed to have been killed in a U.S.-led air strike on a convoy of militants in Iraq, was revealed on Sunday.
The aide Auf Abdulrahman Elefery, who went by the code name Abu Suja, was reportedly killed after the strike, which targeted the western Iraqi border town of al-Qaim, tribal sources told Al Arabiya News Channel on Saturday.
The fate of Baghdadi, the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria militant group, remains unclear following reports stating he had been critically injured in the strike.
"He [Abu Suja] and Baghdadi were rarely separate. It's for this reason that it could be possible that Baghdadi was with him [at the time of the attack]," Hisham al-Hashimi, an Iraqi security strategist, told The Telegraph, which posted the image of Abu Suja.
Iraqi officials said Sunday Baghdadi was wounded in an air strike over the weekend, the Associated Press reported.
Pentagon officials, however, said they had no immediate information on such a strike or Baghdadi being wounded, the agency said.
Both Iraqâs Defense and Interior Ministries issued statements saying Baghdadi had been wounded, without elaborating, the AP reported.
On Saturday, tribal sources told Al Arabiya News Channel that Baghdadi was âcritically woundedâ when an air strike targeted the western Iraqi border town of al-Qaim. They said other senior ISIS members were killed in the air strike that targeted a gathering of ISIS leaders.
The Associated Press on Sunday quoted an Iraqi Interior Ministry intelligence official as saying the strike happened early Saturday in the town which is located in Iraq's Anbar province.
The official, citing informants within the militant group, said the strikes wounded Baghdadi, AP reported.
A senior Iraqi military official also said he learned in operational meetings that Baghdadi had been wounded, the agency also said.
Neither knew the extent of Baghdadi's apparent injuries.

[Ynet] Protests in Kafr Kanna continue as rioters threaten police 'will suffer a great deal' if coppers involved in shooting are not suspended.
Over a 100 Paleostinians and settlers clashed in Huwara, south of Nablus, throwing stones at each other on Monday night. Security forces were on the scene to disperse rioters on both sides.
In Kafr Kanna, protests against police shooting of Khair Hamdan continued Monday evening when dozens of masked rioters hurled stones and set tires on fire at the entrance to the village, blocking the entry road.
Rioters were shouting: "The blood of the martyr Khair Hamdan is precious to us" and "The coppers are the criminals."
One of the protesters, a resident of Kafr Kanna, told Ynet: "We repeat: We will not let the shooting of Khair Hamdan go unanswered. Whether Netanyahu likes it or not, we will continue fighting and protesting. The government needs to know the residents of Kafr Kanna will not let police cars into the village. They'd better not drive around inside our village until the coppers involved in the murder are suspended. If they're not, the coppers will suffer a great deal."
There were several rioting incidents in Nazareth on Monday. Some 120 youth blocked Paulus VI road in the city, threw trash cans and set tires on fire. Police nabbed Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'! two suspects, one of them a masked 15-year-old and the other in his 20s. Both were taken for questioning at the Nazareth police.
In another incident, a stone was thrown at a bus and at a police car on Paulus VI Road. No one was hurt but minor damage was caused to the bus.
A swastika and the writing "death to Jews" were spray-painted on an outside wall and on the sidewalk near the Salesian Church of Jesus the Adolescent in the city. Nazareth police opened an investigation.
Protests continued in the Arab sector throughout the day. Thousands of high school students from Kafr Kanna and Sakhnin protested, demanding to punish the coppers who shot Hamdan. They waved banners with Hamdan's picture and called out "We will sacrifice our lives for the martyr and al-Aqsa."
One of them said, "We went out to protest to make sure our anger at the coppers who killed Hamdan is heard loud and clear. We demand the police and the government to punish them. We live as one nation, and no one is allowed to kill people from our nation."
Another student protester compared Hamdan's shooting to the stabbing attack in Tel Aviv, in which an IDF soldier was killed. "I'm sure the entire country will condemn the attack in Tel Aviv because the maimed is a soldier. When it happens in our sector no one says anything, so it means there's no value for Arab citizens' lives here."
[IsraelTimes] An Israeli legal group filed suit against Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas ... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial... at the International Criminal Court ... where Milosevich died of old age before being convicted ... on Monday, arguing that the Fatah head was responsible for rocket attacks from the Gazoo Strip on Israeli cities during the summer conflict which were claimed by members of his faction.
While neither Israel nor the PA are members of the international body and therefore do not fall under its jurisdiction, the Shurat HaDin ‐ Israel Law Center maintained that "Abbas is a Jordanian citizen and Jordan is a current member of the ICC. The ICC is empowered to exercise its jurisdiction over all acts committed by the citizen of a member, wherever those acts are committed."
The lawsuit maintains that Abbas should be tried for the various rocket attacks on Israel claimed by Fatah during the 50-day conflict in Gazoo -- on July 10, 25 and 27, and August 8 -- as "he is their responsible superior exercising effective command and control of them." Rocket fire on civilians is a war crime under international law, it notes.
"Abbas should be immediately investigated and prosecuted for these rocket attacks against Israel," Shurat HaDin chairwoman Nitsana Darshan-Leitner said in a statement.
"Shurat HaDin will not allow Fatah to carry out rocket attacks on Israeli population centers, while hypocritically advocating Paleostinian membership in the ICC. Abbas falsely believes that alleged crimes against Arabs are the only ones that should be prosecuted," she wrote.
The Israeli rights group lodged an ICC complaint against Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... -based Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, leader Khaled Mashaal, who is also a Jordanian citizen, in late September.
Despite Jordan's "wide-ranging anti-terror laws," the complaint notes, Jordan "has no means of obtaining custody of Mahmoud Abbas." Moreover, the Jordanian legislation is "applied in a patently unfair and politically-motivated fashion," it maintained.
In mid-September, a news hound from Russia's RT television network was given a tour of a rocket manufacturing site somewhere in the Gazoo Strip. A video of the visit, with English subtitles, was published on YouTube by Paleostinian Media Watch shortly after.
The RT news hound met with masked Fatah workers who were seen mixing rocket fuel and explosives in a saucepan heated with an open gas burner. In the small, windowless facility, several rockets and mortars bombs could seen stacked up against a wall decorated with a poster featuring former Paleostinian leader Yasser Arafat.
"We are preparing and developing rockets in the productions division of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades," one of the workers told the news hound. "During the last war we fired rockets at the Zionist enemy, we have notified the enemy that we have many more [rockets]. We have also successfully developed the K-132 rocket, which is here beside me."
Since the summer's Operation Protective Edge, the PA has threatened repeatedly to join the ICC and prosecute Israel for war crimes, but has yet to do so. Joining the international court and lodging a war crimes complaint would transform Abbas's relations with Israel from tense to openly hostile and could also strain his ties with the United States. If Abbas were to turn to the court, Hamas could be investigated for indiscriminate rocket fire at Israel since 2000.
[AnNahar] Twenty-four Arab Israelis, 10 of them minors, appeared in court Monday on charges of rioting in Arab areas of northern Israel after police rubbed out a young man.
Police said all of them had been placed in durance vile Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please! on Sunday and were in court for a hearing to decide whether their custody should be extended.
They are suspected of stone-throwing and other public order offences during demonstrations which have rocked the northern town of Kfar Kana, near Nazareth, since the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old resident early on Saturday.
Kheir Hamdan was rubbed out after he attacked a police vehicle as officers tried to arrest a relative.
Police say the officers fired warning shots before aiming directly at him when their lives were threatened. But relatives say Hamdan was killed "in cold blood", with CCTV images apparently contradicting the official version.
His death set off two days of widespread rioting across Arab towns and villages in Israel.
Police said youths hurled stones at an Israeli car overnight near Taibe, part of a concentration of Arab towns and villages northeast of Tel Aviv, known as the Triangle, which lies close to the border with the West Bank.
The driver was rescued by a local resident who dragged him to safety, but his car went up in flames, police said.
In a separate incident near Fureidis, close to the northern port city of Haifa, a homemade pipe bomb was thrown at police, but did not detonate, police said.

Two were given five years each in prison for IS membership and the other two were tossed in the slammer Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out! for three years for "spreading the ideology of a terrorist group on the Internet", an AFP news hound said.
The IS has set up a self-declared Islamic caliphate on territory it has seized in Jordan's neighbors Syria and Iraq, raising fears that they could also gain ground in the tiny desert kingdom.
Jordan is one of five Arab States -- along with Bahrain, Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates... , Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... and the United Arab Emirates -- taking part in the U.S.-led air campaign against the IS in Syria, where the group is headquartered.
Joining the coalition has put Jordan in danger, analysts have said.
In addition to sharing borders with conflict-hit Syria and Iraq, Jordan is grappling with its own home-grown Islamists question, and also hosts more than 600,000 Syrian refugees.
King Abdullah has said Jordan's participation "in the war on terrorism is within the framework of protecting its interests and consolidating its security faced with the chaos in neighboring states and throughout the region".

Security forces have been alerted in Sultan Kudarat province following reports that the followers of a slain former militant commander may launch attacks to avenge the death of their leader.
Motorcycle gunmen killed Manubakan Abdul, a leader of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), and Abdulkarim Maslamama, a village councilman in Maguindanao province. The pair were driving traveling by motorcycle when gunmen attacked them last month in President Quirino town in Sultan Kudarat province.
Police said that before the attack, two unidentified armed men tried, but failed, to kill Abdul’s son, Datumana, who is the village chieftain of Midconding. Datumana managed to escape after the gun of one of the assailants jammed.
Authorities previously said that some members of the MILF may have been involved in recent attacks by jihadist Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in President Quirino town and nearby areas. A recent attack in the town killed the brother of Katiku village chieftain and injured two more people in Katiku village.

A civilian and four rangers were wounded in a couple of bombings yesterday in Narathiwat and Pattani provinces.
In Narathiwat, one local resident was injured. Police said they found a white cloth hanging on a tree with a message in Thai reading "Sovereign State of Pattani" near the site where the bomb exploded.
The injured resident, Ayub Asay, was wounded by shrapnel in his legs and was taken to a nearby hospital by a passer-by. The passer-by said that Ayub had gone to the area to clear grass when the white cloth attracted his attention. He went closer and stepped on the bomb, which was buried underground. Police said they believe insurgents are responsible for the attack.
Another bomb went off in Pattani in the late afternoon. Four rangers, who were on a teacher protection detail, were wounded.
