A man and his two minor sons were shot dead by the US-led coalition forces in an overnight operation in the eastern province of Nangahar. Elsewhere, 15 suspected Taliban militants, including two commanders, were killed in a raid by NATO aircrafts in the volatile southern region. Also, the coalition said that it killed a top Taliban commander and several of his men on October 28 as they tried to infiltrate from Pakistan, AFP reported.
Local officials and residents said a vendor and his two minor sons were killed as US troops raided his house in Bhati Kot district, some 50 kilometres from the Torkham border. The vendors wife and a child were also injured. Scores of villagers from Takya village, where the incident happened, gathered outside the raided house and chanted anti-government and anti-US forces slogans.
A statement from the coalitions Bagram base said the troops raided a compound in Bhati Kot district and killed one militant. The statement said, The militant barricaded himself in a room despite repeated requests to surrender. The troops found two dead children during the search of the room where the militant had barricaded himself, it said, adding that an injured woman and a child were also found, who were later sent to a nearby coalition medi cal facility. It is regrettable when innocent lives are put at risk by militants, said coalition spokesman Maj Chris Belcher. [We offer] our sincerest condolences to the families of the deceased and wounded, he added.
Militants, commanders killed: In the southern province of Ghazni, police said 15 militants, including two local commanders, were killed as NATO aircrafts pounded their hideouts in Gilan district late on Wednesday. Ghazni police chief Ali Shah Ahmadzai told Daily Times via telephone that the airstrike was conducted on a credible tip-off. Two prominent local commanders, Mullah Moeenuddin and Mullah Shafiq, were also among the dead, he said.
Ahmadzai said the bodies of Arab citizens, believed to be Al Qaeda members, were also found on the site of the NATO bombing. The Taliban neither admitted nor rejected the claim. The commander, identified as Abdul Manan, who was crossing the border, was killed in the eastern province of Khost after security forces ambushed him and a dozen of his men as they crossed the border, the force said in a statement. The killing could not immediately be confirmed by Afghan officials.
Taliban in retreat:In Kandahar, Taliban rebels were retreating on Thursday after Afghan and Canadian troops halted their effort to take a district guarding the approaches to the southern city, Canadas military said, Reuters reported. Taliban fighters overran the neighbouring centre of Bakwa on Wednesday and more than 400 families fled.
Delaram district chief Mullah Yahya said, During the confrontation 14 Taliban insurgents and two Afghan police were killed and the Taliban set the district centre building on fire. Meanwhile in Kabul, 11 policemen died in clashes with the Taliban, officials said Thursday, AP reported. Also Thursday, Taliban attacked a police checkpoint in Nad Ali district in southern Helmand province, killing five officers and wounding three others, said provincial police chief Muhammad Hussein Andiwal.

Muzzies seem to enjoy killing their children. Reviewing incidents over the last five years show numerous occasions where children as young as 10 and 11 are given weapons and told to kill others. As long as islamonuts continue to do that, the life expectancy of their male children will continue to decline. Two men en route to India from Atlanta tried to sneak knives and other weapons on board the flight that also stopped in New York, police said on Thursday. Federal officials said they have ruled out terrorism.
Shakarabhai Patel, 64, who was traveling with Chhaganbhai Patel, had made it through security and on to the Delta Air Lines flight bound for New York and then to India, according to an Atlanta police report. Officials did not immediately indicate the relationship between the two men and could not immediately provide the mens citizenship. Authorities surrounded Chhaganbhai Patel, 60, at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after he was found with a number of knives including a martial arts-style one, according to the police report.
Upon searching Patels bag three more times, they found razor blades hidden in the battery compartment of a toy car. It was an intentional concealment, Corlino said. FBI spokesman Stephen Emmett said Thursday federal agents interviewed the two men through an interpreter and determined the incident was not terrorism related. He declined to explain why the men had the knives. Federal authorities did not press charges and the case is being handled by local officials, Emmett said.

Local news here in Atlanta mentioned the razor blades (concealed) and the "martial-arts" style knife, stating it was HUGE (sounded more like a mini-sword). BUT, they also mentioned that they found a box-cutter (sound familiar?), and also mentioned OTHER knives hidden in aluminum foil (to throw off the metal detectors). I'm not familiar with Indian-born terrorists, but given the war-zone between India and Pakistan (Kashmir), it's possible they're starting stuff here.

Patel is not a Muslim name. But that does not mean A)the men aren't converts, or B)that those are their real names. The thought occurs to me that Pakistan has a false passport industry. Nor does the article snippet say where the gentlemen are from, originally -- only their current itinerary.

Two men, both Indian nationals, now face state weapons charges after one was stopped at a security screening point with a folding knife and steak knives in his carry-on luggage. His traveling companion was pulled from a flight and found with a razor blade in his possession.
Federal officials questioned the two and found no connection to any terrorist activity and no criminal intent for their Oct. 25 Atlanta-to-New York flight. No federal charges were filed, and the men could be kicked out of the country before they are prosecuted by the state.

Federal officials say they have no idea why Chhaganbhai Patel, 60, or Shakarabhai Patel, 64, had knives and razor blades. Chhaganbhai Patel has been charged with a misdemeanor for carrying a concealed weapon and Shakarabhai Patel has been charged with a felony in connection with having prohibited items on or around an aircraft.

The men were booked on a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to JFK in New York and then a connecting flight to Mumbai, India.
Transportation Security Administration officers discovered a double-bladed folding knife, 20 steak knives wrapped in foil and several old-fashioned razor blades in their original wrappers concealed in the battery compartment of a toy car when Chhaganbhai Patel passed through a security screening gate. TSA officers immediately interviewed him and discovered his traveling companion already had been through the security area and boarded the plane.
Officers took Shakarabhai Patel off the plane, which was still parked at the gate, and searched his baggage, said Lt. Jim Carlino, the evening airport watch commander for the Atlanta Police Department.
"He got on the plane with one of those razor blades," Carlino said. "It was in one of the bags."
Carlino said Shakarabhai Patel also carried $5,000 in cash.
The 4 p.m. flight was delayed about five hours after the incident because passengers were removed from the plane and rescreened "out of an abundance of caution," said Atlanta-based TSA spokesman Jon Allen.
Allen said the incident shows the security screening process works, even though one man made it aboard his flight with a razor blade.
"We're always looking to raise the bar on security," Allen said. "We have not made any changes as a direct result of this, but we are continuing to review this incident."
The two men, meanwhile, were placed in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thursday because their visas had expired.
ICE special agent Ken Smith said ICE will coordinate with local prosecutors and police investigators to determine the men's fate. One option, he said, is simply to deport them without pursuing the charges any further.

More likely stories - these guys are smuggling cash, as part of a money laundering scheme, whether connected to terrorism, to drugs, or to something more pederstrian, and wanted weapons cause, well, they were carrying a lot of cash.

Meanwhile they are held on state charges, while the Feds can do a little more checking, without revealing their hand.

Hanging them at the entrance to the airport, coating their bodies with plastic and irradiating them to kill all bacteria, and not removing them would do a lot more to stop terrorism than TSA ever could. If you're going to send a message, don't make it a timid note written in crayon, but something loud enough to be heard, regardless of how much background noise there is.

Perhaps the 20 steak knives were to be distributed to others during the New York Layover. they would probably have been allowed to deplane while there and since most airports have securoty at the head of a particular corridor, there would have been nothing stopping a lot of 'festivities' from occurring. and 5 K divided by 20 = only $250, that would be amlost enough for a quick drink ( non alcoholic of course) before the final act.
there is a lot more here than meets the eye.

Shrapnel that appeared to be from an American-made missile was found Sunday at the house where Pakistan said a top al-Qaida operative was killed in an explosion, although President Bushs national security adviser declined to confirm the death.

But local residents found at least two pieces of shrapnel at the blast scene inscribed with the designation of the Hellfire missile, which is carried by the U.S. Air Forces unmanned, remote-controlled Predator aircraft. John Pike, director of the defense Web site GlobalSecurity.org, said the Hellfire is used almost exclusively by the U.S. military. Al-Qaida operatives would be unlikely to have Hellfire missiles, Pike said, although he said the possibility could not be completely discounted.
A good thing for the war on terror
U.S. national security adviser Stephen Hadley declined to confirm that Rabia, said to be among al-Qaidas top five leaders and responsible for planning overseas attacks, was dead or that the attack was carried out by a pilotless U.S. plane. At this point we are not in a position publicly to confirm that he is dead. But if he is, that is a good thing for the war on terror, Hadley told Fox News Sunday.
Rabia was involved in planning two assassination plots against Pakistani President Gen. Pervez Musharraf, and we believe he was involved in planning for attacks against the United States, Hadley said. So a thorn in Musharaff's side too. In Pakistan, that's the one strike and you're out rule.
Musharraf said Saturday it was 200 percent confirmed that Rabia was killed.
He was killed twice. Once for good luck.
The senior Pakistani intelligence official said the missile attack blew up a stockpile of bomb-making materials, grenades and other munitions. Pakistan Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said Rabias two Syrian bodyguards also died in the explosion. Flowers on way to Pencilneck.
'A big blow for them'
Sources told NBC that Rabia was one of five men killed at a safehouse located in the village of Asorai, in western Pakistan, near the town of Mirali.
Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed declined to comment on the report about Rabias remains but said there was other information besides the DNA tests that confirmed his identity. He was a high-profile commander in the network. We were tracing him for the last two years, Sherpao told The Associated Press on Sunday. Naturally any person killed in their hierarchy is a big blow for them.
An intelligence official said U.S. help was involved in tracking Rabia down and eliminating the threat that he embodied. That official spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media.
Local residents said that the men were killed by an unknown number of missiles fired by an unmanned Predator aircraft. The witnesses said they had heard six explosions, but it is uncertain how many of these were the result of missile attacks and how many may have been the result of the missiles detonating explosives inside the safehouse.
On Saturday, Pakistans Dawn newspaper, citing sources it did not identify, reported that the attack on a mud-walled home near Miran Shah may have been launched from two pilotless planes.
Associates from outside Pakistan retrieved the bodies of Rabia and two other foreigners and buried them in an unknown location, the report said.
Rabia had moved up al-Qaida ranks
Two U.S. counterterrorism officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the informations sensitivity, said Saturday that Rabia was believed to be an Egyptian and head of al-Qaidas foreign operations, possibly as senior as the No. 3 in the terrorist group, just below al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and his lieutenant, Ayman al-Zawahri. They are believed to be hiding in a rugged area along Afghanistans border with Pakistan.
Rabias death would not enhance the prospect of catching either bin Laden or al-Zawahri, according to another Pakistani intelligence official, who requested anonymity because of the sensitive nature of his job. The official said intelligence agents had no clue about the whereabouts of bin Laden or al-Zawahri.
Rabia filled the vacuum created this year by the capture of the previous operations chief, Abu Faraj al-Libbi, the two U.S. officials said.
Rabia would have been responsible for training, recruiting, networking and, most importantly, planning international terrorist activities outside the Afghan-Pakistan region. He had a wide array of jihadist contacts, one official said, and was believed to be trying to reinvigorate al-Qaidas operations.
One Pakistani intelligence official said Rabia had been the target of a Nov. 5 attack in the same area that killed eight people, but he managed to escape. That attack initially was blamed on militants setting off bombs they were making.
Miran Shah is a strategic tribal region where al-Qaida militants are believed to be hiding and where Pakistani forces have launched several operations against them.

Five militants and a policeman have died in fresh clashes in insurgency-hit Indian-held Kashmir, officials said on Thursday. Three of the militants were killed early on Thursday after crossing into the Indian-administered part of the disputed Himalayan region from the Pakistani zone, army spokesman Colonel Manjinder Singh said. They were killed as they entered our territory, he said, adding that reinforcements were sent to northern Kupwara district and its section of the Line of Control the de facto border that splits Kashmir.
In a separate clash late on Wednesday, two militants and a policeman were killed in the regions southern Doda district, police said in a statement. Police identified one of the slain militants as a district commander for the hardline militants group Hizbul Mujahedin, which wants all of Kashmir to be under Pakistani rule.

Up to 70 militants have been killed in the Khawzakhela area of Matta tehsil in Swat district after up to 600 pro-Taliban militants attacked security personnel near Dheri Bagh at around 4:00 am on Thursday, NWFP Home Secretary Badshah Gul Wazir told reporters.
Clashes between security forces backed by helicopter gunships and militants near Khawzakhela continued on Thursday, with 11 civilians reported to have been injured in the crossfire. Online reported that the militants had taken control of the Khawzakhela Bazaar, while a BBC report claimed areas west of Mingora were under militant control.
Addressing a joint press conference at the NWFP Information Department, Wazir said security forces had suffered no casualties in the clash.
Militant claims: However, Sirajuddin, a spokesman for rebel cleric Fazlullah, said only one or two militants had died. He claimed that 40 security personnel had surrendered in fighting in Khawzakhela. Wazir denied that security personnel had surrendered. NWFP IG Sharif Virk said there was some tension at a police station that had been surrounded by militants, but security forces there were confident they could resist and had been provided with rations.
The militants also claimed to have arrested two foreigners, believed to be journalists. Sirjauddin claimed that the arrested men were NATO soldiers.
Home Minister Shahzada Gustasap told the press conference that the government was trying to mobilise the public against militancy through jirgas in all districts. We are trying to resolve the crisis by engaging all the parties, he said.

Odd thing is, its reported the surrendered Paki troops say they dont want to fight "fellow Pashtuns". Sounds more like locally recruited police, than like Paki regulars, unless they have mainly Pashtun units.

A 16-year-old boy was arrested Thursday morning at the Hawara checkpoint after attempting to detonate powerful bombs.
The boy arrived at the "humanitarian lane" of the checkpoint, approached soldiers and hurled his bag towards them. A Civil Administration officer, in charge of assisting people in passing the checkpoint, managed to subdue the youth before he could detonate the bombs. Sappers were called to the scene and discovered four bombs inside the bag, each composed of a pipe, a fire extinguisher and shrapnel. Instructions on how to detonate the bombs were also found in the boy's possession. In his initial questioning by security forces, the youth said he planned to attack soldiers and civilians.

The IDF has stepped up its efforts against the terror infrastructure in Gaza and, in a 36-hour operation that ended Thursday, discovered seven weapons-smuggling tunnels in the southern Strip along the Egyptian border.
The kilometer-long tunnels were discovered near Dahiniye by an elite Engineering Corps unit and troops from the Golani infantry's Battalion 51. The tunnels were found within two kilometers of the border with Israel and, according to the IDF, had been used intensively in recent months to smuggle weapons and explosives from Egypt into Gaza.
The troops destroyed the tunnels in controlled explosions. IDF sources said they had been large enough for people to pass through and were most probably used by terrorists to leave Gaza on their way to Iran or Syria for training.
The army estimates that terrorists have dug dozens of tunnels over the past year. Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) chief Yuval Diskin told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee Monday terrorists had smuggled more than 112 tons of explosives into Gaza since Israel's disengagement from the Strip in 2005.

Israeli troops arrested a major West Bank leader of the armed wing of radical Islamist movement Hamas who had been wanted for three years, a Palestinian security official said on Thursday. Omar Tirawi, 40, from the Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades command in Nablus, was arrested in the citys El-Makhfiah neighbourhood in the northern West Bank. Soldiers arrived in about 30 jeeps and surrounded the building where he was hiding. They opened fire into the air but Tirawi surrendered without resistance, the Palestinian security official said. An Israeli military source said soldiers arrested 16 wanted Palestinians in raids across the West Bank overnight.

Four people including police officers were wounded when terrorists insurgents detonated a bomb at a busy market in the Muang district of Yala province on Friday afternoon, police said. The blast went off in front of a stall selling pork *gasp!* during the time when many villagers were shopping for goods.
Authorities closed roads leading to the market and people were banned from entering the area as they are worried that other bombs might be hidden.
A Sri Lankan airstrike pounded a meeting of top rebel leaders early Friday, killing the head of the Tamil Tigers' political wing and five others in an attack seen as a major victory for the government in its long fight with the guerrillas.
The killing of S.P. Tamilselvan, assumed by some to be the secretive group's second in command, was certain to badly damage the rebels' morale nearly two weeks after they stunned the government with a devastating attack on an air base.
"This is a message that we know their leaders' location," Defense Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told The Associated Press. "This confirms that our information is very accurate." Another five rebel leaders were killed in the bombing, according to a statement from the rebel group that was e-mailed to reporters and confirmed Tamilselvan's death. Rebel spokesmen did not answer phone calls seeking further comment.
In a separate attack, Sri Lankan jets pounded a camp belonging to the Black Tigers, the rebel group's suicide fighters, in Iranamadu in the rebel-held Kilinochchi district, air force spokesman Group Capt. Ajantha Silva said.

With secretive Tamil Tiger leader Velupillai Prabhakaran almost never seen publicly in recent years, Tamilselvan had become the rebel leadership's link to the outside world.
He regularly held talks with peace envoys and diplomats, met with foreign humanitarian workers and gave interviews to the few international journalists allowed by the government to cross into rebel-held territory in the north.
He headed the group's delegation at the failed peace talks in Geneva last year.
In an interview with The Associated Press in July, he promised to retaliate for the army's capture of eastern Sri Lanka from the rebels.
"(We will) weaken the military capacity of the government of Sri Lanka, which will invariably end up hitting economic targets as well," he said.
In a sign of the focus on fighting by the rebel group where everyone from politicians to doctors are also combatants Tamilselvan held the rank of brigadier, the highest rank in the rebel force.
The rebels have been fighting since 1983 to create an independent homeland for ethnic minority Tamils, following decades of discrimination by the majority Sinhalese-controlled governments. More than 70,000 have been killed in the fighting.

While I continue to oppose any first-use of nuclear weapons by America in the MME (Muslim Middle East), neither will I feel overly inclined to condemn such a thing should it happen.
We most definitely want the Arab world to believe in our willingness regarding use of nuclear weapons. However, I remain concerned that this rumor might also be construed by Muslims as sufficient justification for a terrorist nuclear strike against America.
Most deeply cynical of all is the otherwise appealing notion thatby this rumor's encouragment of an unjustified "retaliatory" nuclear terrorist attack against Americawe might then proceed to solve the niggling issue of Islamic predation in a rather abrupt and definitive manner.

Should they actually acquire nuclear bombs, they will try to use them. Skinless people in a sandpaper world need await no new justification for doing what they intended all along. Unlike us, they feel no need to restrain themselves to equality of effort.

This goes to my idea that, while a non-nuclear weapon was used, it might have been dropped by a US stealth bomber from Iraq while the Syrian radar was lit up and pointing in a different direction.
For their part, the Israelis would have gotten a butt load of intel about Syria's radar defenses, but with their high performance aircraft that are much less likely to be hit by a Russian missile, and yet can't carry too big a bomb.
So the US wins, Israel wins, Syria-Nork-Iran lose.
If it didn't happen that way, then it should have.
