Egypt has recovered the black box of a Russian airliner that crashed Saturday in the restive Sinai Peninsula, killing all 224 people on board, the prime minister's office said. Egyptian Prime Minister Sherif Ismail said it was impossible to determine the cause of the Russian plane crash until the black box was examined but that no "irregular" activities were believed to be behind it.
"The black box was recovered from the tail of the plane and has been sent to be analysed by experts," the office of Prime Minister Sharif Ismail said, adding that rescuers had recovered 129 bodies from the site of the crash.
Ismail later told a press conference that experts will "start examining the information in the black box, and based on this we will study the causes of the crash".
The Daesh group affiliate in Egypt claimed it downed the plane, but without saying how.
And Ismail expressed scepticism when asked about the claim.
"Experts have affirmed that technically planes at this altitude cannot be shot down, and the black box will be the one that will reveal the reasons for the crash," he was quoted by state news agency MENA as saying.
In Moscow, Russian Transport Minister Maksim Sokolov too said the Daesh claim "cannot be considered accurate", adding that authorities in Egypt "have no such information that would confirm such insinuations".
A senior Egyptian aviation official said the plane was a charter flight operated by a Russian firm, and was flying at an altitude of 30,000 feet when communication was lost.
A senior Egyptian air traffic control official said the pilot told him in their last communication that he was having trouble with the radio system.
The plane with 214 Russian and three Ukranian passengers, and seven crew, had taken off from the Red Sea resort of Sharm El Sheikh in the south Sinai bound for Saint Petersburg. It lost contact with air traffic control 23 minutes later. The wreckage was found roughly 100 kilometres south of the North Sinai town of El Arish, Egyptian officials said.

They would need an SA11 which nobody thinks IS has. Most likely a poorly maintained aircraft.

It all depends, Sven, whether Russia has its hands full in Syria---or, is ready and willing to lend Egypt a hand in Sinai.
Extracted. More at the link.
Many of the casualties incurred by U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 15 years stemmed from IED attacks on their vehicles.
Aviation fuel and gasoline powering military planes and vehicles could be infused with an additive that will cut the risk or severity of secondary explosions, including those caused by IED attacks.
Internationally, researchers have been investigating means of limiting misting of jet fuel after a collision since 1977, when two Boeing 747s crashed on the ground in Tenerife.
"The accident, being on the ground, you might think would be survivable," she said. "But 582 people were killed and only 61 survived. Why? Because the impact produced a mist of the fuel and that fine mist floated [and then ignited]."

They tried using cement to constrain the fuel molecules in an ionic cage, but that just made the problem harder.

Um, there was one episode when they were going to show the prophet Muhammed, but it was pulled by the suits at Comedy Central. That's not on Stone & Parker.
The XM25 is a smart grenade launcher built by Orbital ATK and has been in the works for several years now. Unlike regular grenade launchers, what makes the XM25 so special is its ability to hit targets that might be standing behind a wall or who are otherwise shielded. All they have to do is point the gun, which has a range of 1,640 feet, at their target or the general location.
From there, the built-in laser rangefinder in the XM25 will do the job of calculating the distance for you and will be able to determine when the grenade explodes. All the soldier has to do is pull the trigger and they're good to go. If the target is behind a wall, they just need to dial in a little bit extra distance to make up for it.
According to the Lt. Colonel Chris Lehner, "No longer will our Soldiers have to expose themselves by firing and maneuvering to eliminate an enemy behind cover. Our Soldiers can remain covered/protected and use their XM25 to neutralize an enemy in his covered position. This will significantly reduce the risk of U.S. casualties and change the way we fight."

What they need next is a dragon fly sized drone to check what is behind the wall before destroying everything in back of it.

'Fire and maneuver' no longer required now that we have the XM25 SATLINK to the Oval Office. Don't forget the battery pack and extra rounds.
Simply remain in your hidey-hole and await further instructions.
