The NSW government is ready to investigate reports a family was served a bowl of ice-cream smeared with human faeces by a Sydney pub, but is still awaiting an official complaint.
The Whyte family from Queens Park have accused eastern Sydney's Coogee Bay Hotel of serving up the faeces-smeared desert during the Rugby League grand final lunch on October 5. The hotel has countered by denying the allegation and accusing the family of trying to extort $1 million from the pub.
Father of three Steve Whyte has told News Ltd that the family was served the dish following a argument with the pub's management about seating at the function.
Mr Whyte's wife Jessica said she only became aware that excrement was on the ice-cream when she put the spoon to her lips. "The stench went through my nostrils," she told News Ltd. "I retched and spat it out into the napkin."
Mr Whyte later had the desert tested in an independent laboratory, which found it had "properties similar to human excreta".
NSW Minister for Primary Industries Ian Macdonald said on Sunday the government would investigate the "horrible" incident, but first the Whyte family needed to lodge a complaint with the NSW Food Authority. "The government through the Food Authority will investigate, but we need a complaint made by the people involved for that investigation to commence," he told reporters in Sydney. "So we're calling on the people who have been affected by this incident to lay a complaint to the food authority so an investigation can commence into this appalling incident.
"It's a horrible story, its a terrible story, and I believe that it needs investigation."
Mr Macdonald said if true, the incident was the most deliberate act of "treachery" he had ever witnessed involving a restaurant and one of its customers. "It would be pretty impossible to think about how this would be occurring without there being a deliberate act of treachery," he said. "This incident would require some hostile act to occur. I can't see, given the nature of the food business, how this could occur in any other way."
If found guilty the hotel could face a fine of $275,000, Mr Macdonald said.
Coogee Bay Hotel owner Tony Williams has denied the allegations, accusing the Whyte family of trying to extort $1 million from the pub. He also has raised the spectre of industrial sabotage, saying the hotel also was a victim. "We are aware of the allegation that has been made, and are treating it as extremely suspicious," he told News Ltd. "The couple making the allegations have made a demand for up to $1 million from The Coogee Bay Hotel, which we believe borders on extortion."
According to the Whyte family the hotel offered to pay them $5,000, but would not admit any liability for the incident.
The family refused the deal. "I just don't think they should be allowed to get away with it by trying to give us money," Mr Whyte told News Ltd.

So, if I get you all correctly, Steve Whyte is the pink guy, and Steve White the "salmon" (sic!) one, right? Makes sense. We're not judging you, doc.
Supporters of vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will have plenty to see outside the Civic Center if they are unable to get inside for her Sunday appearance.
As many as 700 zombies are expected to amble up Flint Street past the Civic Center about 5 p.m., just after doors open for the Palin event.
Dan Burrello, who started the Asheville Zombie Walk in 2006, said he spoke with the Secret Service and Palin advance team about the walk. I mean, when you see 700 shambling dead zombies walking toward the Civic Center up the bridge, it would probably get the Secret Service's attention, Burrello said with a laugh Friday. So we gave them a heads up on it to make sure they know we're not doing any kind of protest or (are a) threat in anyway.
The Asheville Zombie Walk starts at Montford Park and will end with a party at Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe Avenue.
The walk has been in the works for a year, and is organized for people who love zombies, horror films and to celebrate Halloween, Burrello said. Some of it also is a statement on consumerism and society, though the fact the Zombie Walk is taking place during Sarah Palin's visit is pure coincidence.

THE nature versus nurture debate rages on but a new study of transsexuals has shown genetics plays a key role in determining our sense of gender.
In the largest genetic study of its kind, 112 male-to-female transsexuals took part in a study involving several Melbourne research bodies and the University of California, Los Angeles. Researchers measured the variation in the androgen receptor gene, which is involved in the functioning of the sex hormone testosterone. DNA samples from the transsexuals were compared with the samples from 250 typical men.
Researchers discovered the transsexuals were more likely than non-transsexuals to have a longer form of the gene. "We think these genetic differences might reduce testosterone action and under-masculinise the brain during foetal development," Prince Henry's Institute researcher Lauren Hare said.
Lead researcher, Associate Professor Vincent Harley, head of molecular genetics at Prince Henry's Institute, said there had long been debate about the causes of transsexuality. "There is a social stigma that transsexualism is simply a lifestyle choice. However, our findings support a biological basis of how gender identity develops," he said.
He said researchers were recruiting transsexual people for another study and hoped to double the sample size and examine other genes. Assoc Prof Harley said it was important to replicate the findings in other populations.
Researcher Trudy Kennedy, director of the Monash Gender Dysphoria Clinic, said the study supported other evidence that genetics and brain gender were important in transsexuality. "This is something that people are born with and it's certainly not a lifestyle choice as some have suggested," she said.
Julie Peters, a transgender person, said she knew from as young as three or four years old she did not fit into being a boy. "I have always had the personality of a girl, I suppose is the way I perceive it and even from a very young age, three or four, I was really mad at people for making me a boy," she said. "I personally think it (gender) is a combination of both (nature and nurture).
"You are born with a predisposition to have a certain personality and then depending on the culture you are brought up in your personal situation it becomes active in a particular way."
The study research was jointly funded by the National Health and Medical Research Council and the US National Institutes of Health.

IMHO, it's mostly genetic. Nobody in their right mind would actively choose the confusuon, abuse, non-acceptance, etc. That said, I'm an active supporter of CA Prop 8, which identifies marriage as a man-woman deal. Gays, Trannies, etc. can have Civic Unions with all the rights, but can't call it "marriage"

AN Indonesian child protection agency is investigating reports of a marriage between a Muslim cleric and a 12-year-old girl, the Jakarta Post newspaper reports. The newspaper said the 43-year-old cleric from Central Java allegedly married the minor girl with her parents' consent in August and planned to marry two more girls, aged seven and nine.
The Government-backed Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) plans to question the cleric, the girl, her parents, the minister who married them and witnesses of the marriage. Under the Indonesian law, a woman must be at least 16 years old to marry. Marriage with a minor carries a maximum of five years.
The cleric is a rich businessman who owns a Muslim boarding school in Central Java. He made headlines in local newspapers after donating billions of rupiah to the poor during the fasting month of Ramadan. His first wife is 26.

What the heck is Indonesia's problem? The Prophet (bees pee upon him) married Aisha when she was only six, although he did wait until she was nine to consummate the marriage. If the Prophet did it, it must be ok for everyone to do it. In fact, since the Prophet is the "perfect man", one that everyone should emulate, I am not even sure why Indonesia's law does not REQUIRE men to marry girls who are between six and nine.
Somebody should issue a fatwa about this.

Wow, I just can't even imagine as a parent how I would handle a cleric attempting to marry my daughter. I would probably make front page news about the new rebellion in Indonesian. Is this article even allowed to be in print in their illuminatie socialist setting?
