(Prensa Latina) After being rescued by elite soldiers from the Metropolitan Police Hospital, where he had been sequestered, Ecuador´s President Rafael Correa triumphantly addressed the nation from the balcony of the Presidential Palace.
A cheering crowd of thousands of people gathered in front of the palace in downtown Quito to express their support for the Ecuadorian leader who blamed the aborted coup on the evil machinations of "known conspirators".
Amidst chants of "Lucio murderer" by a frenzied crowd, Correa charged opponent and former president Lucio Gutierrez with plotting the coup and inciting part of the police to insubordination.
Gutierrez is the head of the opposing conservative Patriotic Society Party that has been held responsible for being behind the plot and the coup attempt.
The events began in the morning with hundreds of police officers revolting and carrying out disorderly actions in Quito and other cities under the pretext of protesting a law, passed Wednesday, that cuts benefits and eliminate perks for public servants.
He was sequestered at Quito´s police hospital where he was taken for treatment after he twisted the leg on which he had recently undergone surgery. He injured the leg when he was attacked with tear gas after attempting to talk to the insubordinate police officers at their main headquarters in the capital.
"We came this morning, as our custom is, to talk and explain what we wanted to do, because no one has supported the police nor has raised their salaries so much as this Government," he told the crowd.
"And after seeing the reaction of a group of them, I felt betrayed," he stressed, adding that those responsible for the coup attempt will be punished.
After thanking all of his supporters and the soldiers for their loyalty and courage in the rescue operation, Correa said he had just lived through the saddest day of his government by seeing how Ecuadorian brothers had uselessly spelt their blood.
He also thanked "profoundly" the thousands of Ecuadorians who peacefully came unarmed to rescue him from the clinic, the presidential body guards and the ministers who were with him, "all willing to die if it was necessary," he stressed.

(Prensa Latina) Ecuadorian Police General Commander, Freddy Martínez, resigned publicly on Friday saying that "a commander who has been attacked and disrespected by his subordinated can not continue to lead the institution".
According to the public agency Andes, General Florencio Ruiz will assume command of the police until the President designates the holder.
In a short address, Martínez said that because of the seriousness of the matter he didn't summit his resignation on Thursday.
"I wanted to hand in my resignation Thursday, but I didn't consider appropriated, it was a critical situation, because there was the President's security to think of, it was logical that I stayed until the end of the day", he explained.
Martínez regretted the casualties and the maimed of both the police and the civilians.
On the other hand, he asked the President to study the Public Service law that, according to Martinez, does affect the police, whose duties are not similar to those of public servants.
"I'm afraid that there were infiltrators intending to destabilize the Police and there we found pseudo-coppers with their faces covered, hiding in the anonymity as people who are outside the law do, so I presume they were not police", he said
Moreover, he stressed and thanked the Special Operations Group (GOE)'s work, who acted faithfully and with discipline obeying their Commander's orders and even participated in the President's rescue.

[Iran Press TV] The jobless rate remains so high in the eurozone that experts say austerity measures will not solve the problem due to the 'huge' debt countries are in.
"Because of this huge debt even the austerity measures are not going to solve it and even after them (austerity measures) the situation will be worse," Professor of Binary Economics Rodney Shakespeare told Press TV on Friday. Binary economics?
More like monary, I should think. The logic appears to be:
1. If n equals zero, then no.
2. If n equals not-zero, then no.
Citing Greece, Shakespeare said, after the country's austerity measures, the compound interest would take its national debt to 150 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
In Shakespeare's opinion, to solve the problem, banks must stop making money and instead open up a new money supply to solely develop and spread the real economy to everybody.
I have absolutely no idea what that means in simple English
."If you do not do that, you are going to end up being controlled by the financial elites and the corrupt Wall Street and the corrupt city of London and the thing will go on and on getting worse and worse."
The remarks come amid reports that the unemployment rate in the eurozone has remained at its highest level for the sixth successive month. According to the latest figures released by the European Union, nearly 16 million Europeans are jobless in the eurozone -- that is 10 percent of the population.
Spain, however, is the worst affected nation with a jobless rate of over 20 percent.
Meanwhile, ...back at the ranch... hundreds of thousands of people from across Europe have poured onto the streets of the Belgian capital, Brussels, to express their anger at austerity plans.
Millions of jobs have been cut in Europe and many more are set to be squeezed as governments axe public spending in a bid to save the melting economy.

Meanwhile, the local Publix supermarket has started to stock German food next to the English food in the "ethnic" food aisle. Somebody got to buy all those "short-term rental properties" down here in the land of the mouse.

Rodney Shakespeare is Visiting Professor of Binary Economics...
Shakespeare invented "binary economics", along with Robert Ashford, who seems to actually be a professor on the faculty of the Law School at Syracuse U.
There's a Wikipedia entry. The discussion section is...interesting. See archives 2 and 3, especially.

Written by a conservation Jewish, pro-Israel, former colleague in Northern VA. I believe he captures the essence of the issue quite well:
"Those of us on the Right who are politically astute should understand the extent of liberal Jewish media control - for three reasons. First, it explains why the media is liberal and out of touch with the rest of the populace, particularly conservatives. Second, it provides a tempting Saul Alinsky-type target for those of us who have the temerity to play hardball with these hypocrties who demand diversity for everyone else, except what they control. Third, if you want to eventually weaken the Left, you need to drive a wedge between groups such as liberal Jews and liberal Hispanics, and Sanchez just showed us how. He is right. Smug arrogant liberal NY-ers tolerate minorities as long as they vote Democrat, but they could not care less about their material well-being, which is why the Schumers, Boxers, Feinsteins, Waxmans, Kohls, Weydens, Axelrods, Emanuels, Soros', Andy Sterns, and Bawney Franks works so hard to keep minorities on the welfare plantation and their children in failing public schools. Don't belive me? Look at Obama, and how he destroyed the DC school lottery which gave thousands of black chlidren a fair shot at a decent educational experience. Why as a black man would he do that? Answer - his pupeteers."

May just be a temporary spike Frank. They've not named a replacement just yet.
And there's always room to go lower ...

I saw a lead on another blog that read, "Kosher Nostra takes out Sanchez." Forgive me, but I had to laugh. I'll bet FOX scoops him up within the next few days.

A multi-volume chronology and reference guide set detailing three years of the Mexican Drug War between 2010 and 2012.
Rantburg.com and borderlandbeat.com correspondent and author Chris Covert presents his first non-fiction work detailing
the drug and gang related violence in Mexico.
Chris gives us Mexican press dispatches of drug and gang war violence
over three years, presented in a multi volume set intended to chronicle the death, violence and mayhem which has
dominated Mexico for six years.
Rantburg was assembled from recycled algorithms in the United States of America. No
trees were destroyed in the production of this weblog. We did hurt some, though. Sorry.
