[Komo News] OSEBURG, Ore. -- Fifteen people are confirmed dead after a shooting incident at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore., according to the Oregon State Police.
Several other people are reported to be injured.
A school official told a reporter shots were fired at Schneider Hall around 10:30 a.m.. The official said the school was locked down.
People are being asked to stay away from the campus.
It was not imediately known if the shooter or shooters had been captured.
The college is about 180 miles south of Portland.
Umpqua Community College has about 3,000 students. Its website was down Thursday. Posted as Lurid Crime pending the release of additional information.
Kortney Moore told The News-Review that she was in Snyder Hall when her teacher got shot in the head. The 18-year-old student said the gunman told people to get down on the ground. He then started to ask people to stand up to state their religion and then started shooting, according to Moore. She said she was lying on the ground with people who were shot.
Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum said 13 people were killed in a shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, and 20 others were injured. The male gunman was killed by officers in a shootout.
That story contains the "state your religion" bit quoted in comment #3. Forty-eight Hour Rule, of course, but it was told by a claimed eye witness.

From one of the comments at Betty's link: I would bet a months pay the shooter is a male with liberal/occupy type leanings who is is taking at least 2 forms of anti-psychotics..
Seems a safe bet.
But as tw says, 48 Hour Rule. We're getting info from journalists, after all.

News is reporting that 20 year old male shooter was asking people their religion. If they said Christian, he shot them in the head. If they didn't answer, he shot them in the legs. Also being reported is that he came from the midwest, went to Seattle, and then down to Roseburg. No name at this point.
Obean used the event to express his rage and call for more gun control. He said nothing about a warm night in Chicago and its death rate.

I prefer all shooter identity be "some asshole with a gun" .... And I can live without a 20 minute Today show segment tomorrow on how the youth was bullied as a child, misunderstood, was depants once by some cool kids or Allan told him his 72 prom dates await in heaven.
[RFE/RL] A court in the Kazakh city of Temirtau sentenced a local resident to three years in jail for being a member of a banned Islamic group. Orazbek Apakashev was found guilty of being a member of the Tablighi Jamaat group.
According to the court, Apakashev actively participated in the banned group's activities in Lahore and Karachi.
The Tablighi Jamaat is a religious movement founded in India in the 1920's that positions itself as a pacifist organization and not involved in politics. In recent years, it has been banned in Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan. It's a "pacifist" Islamist recruiting arm.
[Humane Society Intl] A rescue mission to save 103 dogs and puppies from a South Korean dog meat farm has been successfully undertaken by Humane Society International. The rescue is part of HSI's campaign to end South Korea's dog meat trade and raise awareness among Koreans about the plight of "meat dogs." In the third dog farm closure by HSI this year, all 103 dogs are being flown to the United States, where they will be adopted. Watch a video of the rescue.
HSI came to an agreement with the farmer, Mr. Kim, to permanently end raising dogs at his farm for meat in Chungcheongnamdo and switch to growing rice instead. In Korea, an increasing portion of the population finds the dog meat trade to be shameful. Many farmers are facing pressure from their loved ones and local communities to close their farms and transition to new lines of work.

Someone needs to be sent to diversity training. Imposing evil western standards. How imperialistic. Next they'll want to stop child rapists in Afghanistan.
[Bus Insider] Caterpillar has some bad news. Yet another blow to the U.S. economy and more specifically, the financially beleaguered State of Illinois.
On Thursday, the industrial giant announced plans for it to cut as many as 10,000 jobs as part of a restructuring plan in the face of what it called "a convergence of challenging marketplace conditions in key regions and industry sectors -- namely in mining and energy."
In early trading on Thursday, shares of the company were down over 7%.
Year-to-date, the stock is down about 25%.
Caterpillar is seen as a bellwether for the global economy because its equipment is big, expensive, and often the kind of investment a company makes only when it feels confident about its prospects and the global economy.
Additionally, Caterpillar has been seen as one of the leading indicators on China's economic slowdown given the decline in the company's sales in that region over the past several years. This news out of Caterpillar follows a warning earlier this week from its UK-based rival JCB that it would cut jobs because of a slowdown in Russia, China, and Brazil.
In its announcement on Thursday, Caterpillar noted that 2015 would be its third straight year of sales declines. With sales also expected to decline in 2016 to around $48 billion, the company could be looking at its first four-year stretch of sales drops in its 90-year history.
In a statement, Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman said: "We recognize today's news and actions taken in recent years are difficult for our employees, their families and the communities where we're located. We have a talented and dedicated workforce, and we know this will be hard for them." Doug Oberhelman is a good man. Cat will be announcing early retirement incentives soon in an effort to keep as many younger earners working as possible.
[Iran Press TV] The leader of a major Nepali party has accused neighboring India of deliberately blocking vital supplies into the landlocked Himalayan country.
The allegations by Khadga Prasad Oli, the chief of the Unified Marxist--Leninist (UML) party, comes as a large crowd of angry Nepalese demonstrators protesting against a recently passed national constitution have been blocking a major trading checkpoint between the two countries for several days.
Oli, who is also tipped to be the next prime minister, said on Wednesday that the New Delhi government, rather than protesters on the border, is responsible for the ongoing blockade.
"India is saying those people (protesters) are in no man's land, they are blocking the roads so (Indian trucks) are not being able to supply, that's not true," Oli said.
The senior Nepalese politician also questioned Indian government's sincerity toward Nepal.
"There is no gas, no vegetable supplies, no fuel for vehicles, no fuel for airlines, and life is about frozen," the Nepalese leader said, adding, "We don't want this type of friendship."
Oli also accused the Indian government of violating existing accords between the two nations.

MILWAUKEE, Wis. -- A pregnant girl was rushed to the hospital after she was involved in a melee involving 30 to 40 students at a high school named in honor of President Obama.
Milwaukee police descended on Barack Obama School of Career and Technical Education at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday after getting calls that students were brawling, the Journal Sentinel reports.
The large number of people fighting included "outsiders," according to police.
The pregnant girl was transported to the hospital and while en route, she allegedly kicked a paramedic, who is also pregnant, Fox 6 reports. What a fine, upstanding student that pregnant girl is!

There's a school named after Barack Obama? Who would have known? I guess that in keeping with the current practice of awarding the Nobel Peace Prize before a person actually does anything.
I don't know why but the Kingston Trio song comes to mind but it does, "They're Rioting in Africa."

"According to data from the state Department of Public Instruction, for the 2013-2014 academic year the school, listed as Obama Elementary, scored 39.4 out of 100. On a grading scale, that means Obama Elementary is well below failing. Only 14 schools faired worse on the state report card."
Pregnant yoot at an Elementary School?! How, er, "Progressive."

During August tests of the ejection seat, built by Martin-Baker, testers discovered an increased risk of neck injury when a lightweight pilot is flying at slower speeds. Until the problem is fixed, the services decided to restrict pilots weighing under 136 pounds from operating the plane.
My first thought was, "I've never seen a pilot under 136lbs! WTF?!?" Then remember that women now fly these things.
Bottom line, the ejector seat is sexist and needs to go to sensitivity training.
