[Wash Times} WASHINGTON ‐ Julie Swetnick, one of the women who has publicly accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct, has an extensive history of involvement in legal disputes, including a lawsuit in which an ex-employer accused her of falsifying her college and work history on her job application.
Legal documents from Maryland, Oregon and Florida provide a partial picture of a woman who stepped into the media glare amid the battle over Kavanaugh’s nomination for the nation’s highest court.
Court records reviewed by The Associated Press show Swetnick has been involved in at least six legal cases over the past 25 years. Along with the lawsuit filed by a former employer in November 2000, the cases include a personal injury suit she filed in 1994 against the Washington, D.C., regional transit authority.
Her lawyer, Michael Avenatti, told AP that court cases involving her have no bearing on the credibility of her claims about Kavanaugh. Avenatti said the lawsuit from her ex-employer - it was dismissed a month after it was filed - was "completely bogus, which is why it was dismissed almost immediately."
He told AP that he "fully vetted" Swetnick before helping her take her claims against Kavanaugh public.
Washington (CNN)The Senate Judiciary Committee has referred an individual who made "materially false statements" alleging misconduct by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh to the FBI and Justice Department for a criminal investigation.
"Such acts are not only unfair; they are potentially illegal," committee Chairman Chuck Grassley wrote in a letter Saturday to Attorney General Jeff Sessions and FBI Director Chris Wray.
Grassley wants the FBI and DOJ to investigate whether the individual potentially obstructed the committee's nomination process of Kavanaugh by providing fraudulent information to committee investigators.
"It is illegal to make materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statements to Congressional investigators. It is illegal to obstruct Committee investigation," the Iowa Republican wrote.
The office of Rhode Island Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat who sits on the Judiciary Committee, received a call on Monday concerning an allegation -- now found to be false -- of a 1985 incident in Newport where a woman was sexually assaulted on a boat by two heavily inebriated men she referred to as "Brett and Mark."
The person being referred has had his name redacted from the materials released. He said he heard of the assault that same day and physically confronted the two attackers, according to the documents. He falsely claimed that he realized one of the attackers was Kavanaugh after seeing his yearbook photo on TV over the weekend.
[DAWN] Nearly 400 people were killed when a powerful quake sent a tsunami barrelling into the Indonesian island of Sulawesi, officials said on Saturday, as hospitals struggled to cope with hundreds of injured and rescuers scrambled to reach the stricken region.
The national disaster agency of Indonesia put the official corpse count so far at 384, all of them in the tsunami-struck city of Palu, but warned the toll was likely to rise.
Some 540 people were badly injured, it added.
In the city ‐ home to around 350,000 people ‐ partially covered bodies lay on the ground near the shore, a day after tsunami waves 1.5 metres (five feet) came ashore.
There were also concerns over the whereabouts of hundreds of people preparing for a beach festival that had been due to start on Friday evening, the disaster agency said.
Hospitals were overwhelmed by the influx of injured, with many people being treated in the open air, while other survivors helped to retrieve the remains of those who died.
One man was seen carrying the muddy corpse of a small child.
The tsunami was triggered by a strong quake that brought down buildings and sent locals fleeing for higher ground as a churning wall of water crashed into Palu, where there were widespread power blackouts.

How do you differentiate the collapsed buildings from those that aren't?
[DAWN] North Korea's foreign minister on Saturday told the United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... there was "no way" that his country would disarm first as long as the United States continued to push for tough enforcement of sanctions against Pyongyang.
Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Ri Yong Ho accused Washington of creating a deadlock in talks on denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula.
"The recent deadlock is because the US relies on coercive measures which are lethal to trust-building," Ri told the assembly.
"Without any trust in the US, there will be no confidence in our national security and under such circumstances, there is no way we will unilaterally disarm ourselves first."
The United States is insisting on a "denuclearisation-first" policy that "increases the level of pressure by sanctions to achieve their purpose in a coercive manner," said the foreign minister.
"The perception that sanctions can bring us on our knees is a pipe dream of the people who are ignorant about us."
Led by the United States, the Security Council adopted three sanctions resolutions last year aimed at depriving North Korea of revenue for its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes.

A Seattle woman was inspired to out her alleged sexual abuser after she observed Christine Blasey Ford testify to the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.
"Today I watched as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee," accuser Candace Faber wrote on Medium that afternoon. "Like many survivors, I was inspired by Dr. Ford’s courage."
"That is why I chose to name my rapist on Twitter: Joe Fain. He currently serves as a Senator in the Washington State Legislature. I did this without professional legal counsel. It was a decision I made in the moment," she added.
Much like with Ford’s accusation against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, whom she’s claimed without evidence had sexually assaulted her decades ago, Fain’s accusation pertains to events that allegedly transpired years ago.
She specifically claimed in a tweet directed at Fain that he had raped her the night she graduated from Georgetown University in 2007, or 11 years ago.

..well that was the Donk's strategy with Kavanaugh. A warning to anyone taking a Trump nomination to SCOTUS, you will be publicly pilloried. It's war.

You have a point, Rob. The tone of American Politics has sadly declined since Congress outlawed duelling. OTH I once read about a challenge to a duel, someplace in the US, prior to the ban. A very feisty, very short legislator took offense at something a 6'7" member said and challenged him. After trying to ignore the banty rooster's incessant importuning, the big guy finally agreed. Having the choice of weapons, he specified 16 lb sledgehammers in 6 feet of water. Oddly, the duel never came off.

It's beyond libel as this is criminal accusation. Investigate the charges and if it turns out she is lying she should serve prison time. If he turns out guilty he should serve prison time.
I think before long the number of false accusations will make the "Believe the Women" mantra into a joke.
[DAWN] The additional district and sessions’ court judge rejected the bail plea of main accused of the Qandeel murder case, Muhammad Wasim, the brother of the late model.
Wasim stated that the police with malafide intention implicated him in the case.
He said that the case would also take long time to be decided, so keeping him in jail till the decision of the case was unjustified. The case is being heard for the last two years.
"The recording of statements of witnesses is at its initial stage and as per some decisions of the superior courts I’m entitled to bail as the police did not make recovery from me," he stated.
According to him, other accused in the case, apart from him and one more, had been released on bail while his parents, complainants in the case, had also submitted their affidavit in the court that they had no objection over his bail.
The prosecutors argued that the hearing of the case has been adjourned maximum times on the request of the defence counsels so the complainant side was not responsible for any delay in the decision of the case.
They said the accused in his statement recorded before the area magistrate under section 164 admitted his crime while results of the DNA and forensic reports also confirmed his involvement in the murder.
They said that parents of the accused had submitted their statement in the court regarding the bail to favour him so their statement has no justification. The court rejected the bail plea.
Qandeel was found murdered in her rented house in Multan Home of the Multan Sultans... on July 16, 2016. Her father alleged that she was killed by her younger brother, Waseem, in the name of honour.
Waseem, who had allegedly fled from the scene, later turned himself to the police and confessed to killing his sister at a presser.

Documentarian Michael Moore says his ex-wife’s lawsuit against him is a malicious end-run around a sealing order in their ongoing Michigan arbitration case filed to "smear" Moore in the press, according to new court documents.
Kathleen Glynn, who is also a filmmaker and has worked on many projects with Moore, divorced him in 2014 after a 23-year marriage.
Earlier this month Glynn filed a lawsuit against Moore in Manhattan Supreme Court claiming that he was stiffing her on profits from their joint movie projects.
