[NYPost] Ethel Rosenberg, who was executed with her husband for treason in 1953, was honored Monday by the City Council on what would have been her 100th birthday.
Three council members joined Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer in issuing two proclamations lauding Rosenberg, a Lower East Side resident, for "demonstrating great bravery" in leading a 1935 strike against the National New York Packing and Supply Co., where she worked as a clerk.
The proclamations also said she was "wrongfully" executed for helping her husband, Julius, pass atomic secrets to the Soviet Union.
"A lot of hysteria was created around anti-communism and how we had to defend our country, and these two people were traitors and we rushed to judgment and they were executed," said Councilman Daniel Dromm (D-Queens). perhaps we need to call a Traitorous Commie Spy a Traitorous Commie Spy, and hound their supporters like we used to?

The Rosenberg thing is a big-time shibboleth for the red-diaper types.
Anyone who even hints that the Rosenbergs may have been guilty of the things that they did is branded as an ignorant McCarthyite who is antisemitic. Proclaiming that the Rosenbergs were persecuted for crimes they did not commit or that their punishment didn't fit the crime or that they were exectued for being Jewish instead of any real crime is an automatic point-getter among the NPR-listening crowd and they cling to the notion of their innocence as a matter of irrational pride.

the evidence, including docs from the F Soviet Union, against Julius Rosenberg is decisive in showing he worked for them
the evidence is not so clear on Ethel -- she may have simply been a commie symp and dupe rather than an actual traitor

Their minds are closed. Never waste time 'negotiating' with them. There can be no deal, only surrender. They demand civility and give none. Treat them as they treat everyone else.
Although the Rosenbergs had defenders who pleaded that they were innocent, or at least severely misunderstood, most of them fell silent when the National Security Agency twenty years ago declassified its VENONA project, a top secret code-breaking effort that revealed numerous 1940’s secrets of Soviet espionage against the United States... VENONA made very clear what Ethel was up to... Ethel Rosenberg was a trusted person as far as the Kremlin was concerned, a Communist Party member who was witting of her husband’s secret work for Soviet intelligence, as well as the roles of other agents who were part of Julius’ spy network. Code-phrases such as being “devoted” and “well developed politically” reveal that Ethel was a committed Stalinist in whom the Soviet secret police placed trust.
