(Xinhua) -- A front man for provincial administration said that 71 Taliban Boskonians were killed as troops raided their hideout in Paktia province east of Afghanistan on the election day on Saturday.
"The Taliban gathered in a hideout in Syed Karam district to disrupt the election process this morning but intelligence reports identified their location and called in airpower which pounded their position killing 71 turbans," Rohullah Samon told Xinhua.
[Dawn] Men in traditional tunics and women covered in sky-blue burqas trickled into polling centres to vote in Afghanistan's parliamentary election Saturday, as scattered attacks and the closure of some voting sites by Islamic fascistiunderscored the difficulty of trying to hold a vote in a country at war.
At least two people were killed in the first hours of polling, officials said.
The poll -- the first since a fraud-marred presidential election last year -- is a test of the Afghan government's ability to conduct a safe and fair vote after months of pledges of reform.

Mauritania launched a military operation against al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) on Friday and security sources said the fighting was continuing on Saturday.
A Nigerien security source said the fighting had no connection with the taking of seven foreigners, including five French citizens, as hostages in Niger on Thursday, a kidnapping that France's foreign minister has blamed on AQIM.

"On Friday the London-based human rights group Amnesty International called on Indian authorities to order security forces not to use firearms against demonstrators "
Would this organisation be better placed, if it based itself where the action is ?

IMO that should be "allegedly died in 2006" as per ZARQAWI/ZARQHAWI/ZARQHWAWI, as ZARKY's oft-repor Pic is STILL BEING USED ON THE MSM-NET, ETC. TO DESCRIBE THE FOUNDER OF THE EAST TURKESTAN ISLAMIC PARTY in 2008.
The above + similar once again show why the US needs to formally recover the physical Bodies = Remains of Any + All Major = High-Profile Radical Islamist Leaders, e.g. OSAMA BIN LADEN IFF OBL WAS INDEED KILLED YEARS AGO AT TORA BORA, OR EVEN IFF HE DIED TIME AGO FROM DIABETES OR OTHER MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS.

Part of the aid convoy set sail from London on Saturday and is scheduled to be joined on by other parties on its way to the coastal sliver.
"Well, it's unique actually in two respects. First of all, it will be by far the biggest convoy so far. And secondly it's leaving from three places simultaneously," one of the organizers, former British lawmaker George Galloway, told a Press TV correspondent in London.

[An Nahar] Hizbullah has conducted missile maneuvers on Fateh 110 rockets in Iran, reported the Kuwaiti al-Rai newspaper on Saturday.
Sources concerned told the paper that the units participating in the maneuvers have returned to Leb after demonstrating great prowess in using this long-range missile.
The newspaper also highlighted the fact that the party's maneuvers coincided with Israeli military maneuvers, which it interpreted as a growing readiness by both sides to wage a new war that is expected to be "the last of the wars" due to its expected highly destructive nature.
