I thought it was pretty clear from the beginning that Georgia started the war. They were expecting NATO to come to the rescue and they didn't. Ever since there has been a substantial faction trying to add them to NATO so as to basically replay the Crimean war. Cut Russia off from the Black Sea and disempower it as a country that can affect world events. Imagine if Britain had succeeded, how different we'd be. If only they didn't have an entire military class that was incompetent. They could have carved Russia up like they did the Levant. And India. Set the different regions into conflict with one another and we would have never even had the Cold War, much less today's war.
