[ColonelCassad] Russia completely failed to notice Erdogan's victory over the previous Turkish army. And over the past two decades, not only have hundreds of generals and senior officers been imprisoned and fired (moreover, mass arrests and purges of the military in Turkey did not begin after the failed coup of 2016, but much earlier, see the Ergenekon case, etc.), but the entire system has been harshly reformatted.
The structure of the headquarters has been completely changed. Erdogan has purged the army officers as much as possible from the Milli İstihbarat Teşkilatı, the local State Security and Intelligence Service.
All the higher military schools with very long traditions, such as the Military Academy (which existed since 1834) and the Naval Academy (which dates back to 1773), have been disbanded. In their place, the National Military University has been created, under the leadership of a civilian - historian Erkan Afyoncu, who is very far from the generals. By the way, this Erdogan's chief military educator wrote his dissertation on the history of Crimea.
The military police and border guards have been transferred from the army to the Ministry of Internal Affairs. All military-industrial complex enterprises, previously directly controlled by the Turkish army, have been transferred under the control of the government. Even all military hospitals in the country and the Military Medical Academy have been subordinated to the Ministry of Health. At the same time, about four thousand military doctors and medical staff have been dismissed... Although what is there to count the dismissals of doctors, when in 2016 alone, 586 colonels were dismissed in Turkey - this is 10% of all colonels in the Turkish armed forces.
In a word, Erdogan's pogrom of the old Turkish army, created by the Westernized heirs of Ataturk, is underestimated here.

The sources, who are not authorized to publicly speak on record, said the authorities confiscated the electronic devices belonging to Tenet Media owners Lauren Chen, also known as Lauren Yu Sum Tam, and her husband, Liam Donovan, around the time the Biden-Harris administration announced the indictment on Wednesday.
"I don’t think the owners had any idea [about the investigation]," one source said. "[The raid] just came out of nowhere."

[ColonelCassad] In the post “War in the City: How DARPA is Preparing for Fighting in Megacities” we wrote about the projects developed by DARPA for warfare in urban environments. We would like to introduce you to one of them, called the Subterranean Challenge (SubT). DARPA (the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) launched this project to develop innovative technologies for rapid mapping, navigation, and search in complex underground environments. Particular emphasis was placed on military applications and the study of urban underground communications. Key aspects of the project:
1. Military applications:
• Development of systems for conducting reconnaissance operations in potentially hazardous underground environments.
• The ability to send robotic groups ahead of fighters for rapid search and mapping.
• Reducing risks to personnel during underground operations.
2. Urban communications:
• Study of complex underground infrastructures, including multi-level parking lots, metro stations, technical tunnels.
• Development of systems for navigation in complex urban layouts covering several floors and blocks.
• Interaction with various technical systems of urban underground infrastructure.
Technical requirements for the developed systems include:
• Autonomous navigation without GPS in conditions of limited visibility.
• Performance of sensors in extreme conditions (darkness, dust, fog).
• Reliable communication with limited passage of radio signals.
• Overcoming complex obstacles (narrow passages, vertical shafts).
• Endurance for long-term operation (from 30 to 180 minutes).
• Detection and geolocation of objects of interest (electrical panels, leaks, etc.).
The project was organized as a competition between teams with a total funding of about $40 million. Key participants: iRobot Defense Holdings, Michigan Technological University, FLIR Unmanned Ground Systems and Scientific Systems.
The DARPA Subterranean Challenge has opened a new chapter in military technology, focused on the development of underground urban spaces. This is not just a technological competition - it is preparation for real scenarios of future conflicts.
The systems being developed can radically change the tactics of urban warfare.
