Cruz was reacting to the Mexican government announcing over the weekend that the country will provide escorted bus rides from southern Mexico to the U.S. border for non-Mexico citizens granted U.S. asylum.
[Daily Mail, where America gets its news] Economist and Columbia University Professor Jeffrey Sachs slammed the government for refusing to explain the details behind the assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
Speaking to Tucker Carlson, Sachs said that the lack of background on what led to Trump being shot is what happens when the government refuses to level with citizens.
'We don't know what happened, it's absolutely shocking, we don't know the story and whether we ever will know the story is, like so many things now that are huge events,' he said.
Sachs - an Ivy Leaguer who has worked with the UN in the past but has been on the outs with liberal elites since promoting the COVID-19 'lab leak' theory - blames Americans' short attention spans preventing them from keeping Washington accountable.
'Assassination attempt on Trump, isn't that weeks ago? That's old news, we don't even talk about that anymore! We have no attention span, we have complete lying from the government, we have secrecy and confidentiality, so we never solve any of these issues'.
He then went on to complain about the government's attitude toward its citizens in return.
'The thing that gets me about Washington is they don't feel they have to respond to anything and you watch the spokespeople... they smirk! Right in your face to tell you you are nothing! We can tell anything to you! They smirk!'
Trump, 78, was shot at a Pennsylvania rally on July 13, with the bullet piercing the skin of his right ear. He says it was 'miracle' and act of God that he survived.
Last week, the FBI revealed that investigators who have conducted nearly 1,000 interviews do not yet have a motive for why 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks shot at Trump during a July campaign rally.
They believe that Crooks conducted 'extensive attack planning,' including looking up campaign events involving both Trump and current President Joe Biden, particularly in western Pennsylvania.
The FBI analysis of his online search history reveals a 'sustained, detailed effort to plan an attack on some event, meaning he looked at any number of events or targets,' Kevin Rojek, the special agent in charge of the FBI's Pittsburgh field office, told reporters last week.
Once a Trump rally was announced for July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania, 'He became hyper-focused on that specific event and looked at it as a target of opportunity,' Rojek said.
Crooks' internet searches in the days leading up to the rally included queries about the grounds where the rally was held, 'Where will Trump speak from at Butler Farm Show?' 'Butler Farm Show podium' and 'Butler Farm Show photos.'
In the 30 days before the attack, the FBI says, Crooks did more than 60 internet searches related to Biden and Trump, including seeking the dates of both the Democratic and Republican national conventions.
FBI Director Christopher Wray has previously revealed that one week before the shooting, Crooks did a Google search for 'How far away was Oswald from Kennedy?'
That's an apparent reference to Lee Harvey Oswald, the shooter who killed President John F. Kennedy on Nov. 22, 1963.
The new details add to an emerging portrait of Crooks as a highly intelligent and reclusive man who investigators say in the years before the shooting had taken an eerie interest in explosives, violence and prominent public figures but whose internet searches of Democrats and Republicans alike have frustrated efforts to assign a simple political motive or to establish why Trump himself would have been targeted.
'We have a clear idea of mindset, but we are not ready to make any conclusive statements regarding motive at this time,' Rojek said. The FBI has also not found that anyone else had advance knowledge of the shooting or that Crooks had conspired with anyone else.
The FBI found explosive devices in his car and home, and investigators say his internet searches revealed that since at least 2019 he had looked up information about bomb-making materials, including about how remote detonators work.
The FBI has said that Trump was struck in the ear by a bullet or a bullet fragment in the assassination attempt.
Crooks fired eight shots from an AR-style rifle. One rallygoer was killed and two others were injured before the gunman, who was positioned on the roof of a building less than 150 yards away, was killed by a Secret Service counter-sniper.
Also last week, the FBI released images of the rifle Crooks used, his backpack and improvised explosive devices found in his car.
[FoxNews] Whistleblowers have told Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., that Secret Service personnel are "woefully unprepared" and given inadequate training to properly protect candidates – including former President Trump – in new claims regarding the assassination attempt against the Republican presidential nominee.
Hawley appeared on "Jesse Watters Primetime" Tuesday night to reveal whistleblowers' claims that when Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents were reassigned to work on the protective details, they were given a single two-hour webinar on Microsoft Teams.
The videos were pre-recorded, with whistleblowers allegedly saying that the videos were riddled with technical mishaps.
"Imagine 1,000 people logging onto Microsoft Teams at the same time after being informed at the last minute that everyone needed to login individually," one whistleblower told Hawley. "Once it got rolling, the Secret Service instructor couldn’t figure out how to get the audio working on the prerecorded videos [which I’m told are the same videos as last year]. All told, they restarted the videos approximately six times …. The content was not helpful."
The whistleblowers further claimed that these same two-hour webinars have not been updated since the assassination attempt against Trump on July 13.
"Nothing new, nothing improved since the assassination attempt on former President Trump," one whistleblower told Hawley.
Other HSI agents, who worked the fateful July 13 Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, told Hawley's office that they "only receive[d] one power-point presentation for training."
The Missouri senator blasted the government agency for their "nightmare" handling of the assassinations attempt that rocked the nation.
The allegations surrounding the HSI agent's lack of training and preparation comes after Hawley's office has continued to communicate with whistleblowers about the Trump rally shooting and what went wrong in order for would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks to gain access to the AGR building rooftop that evening with an AR-15 rifle.
Hawley's office previously claimed that the lead site agent was known to be inexperienced and "incompetent."
"The site agent, the lead agent, was known to the Trump campaign to be inexperienced, to be ineffectual, to be, frankly, incompetent at their job," Hawley previously said in an interview on "Jesse Watters Primetime." "I'm also told by whistleblowers that on that day, she was not enforcing the normal security protocols."
"She was not checking people's IDs. She did not use Secret Service agents," Hawley added. "Most of the agents there that day were not Secret Service agents. They were Homeland Security agents."

The North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) is facing another lawsuit, as the Republican National Committee (RNC) is suing the battleground state for allegedly opening the door for non-citizens to vote.
The lawsuit brought by the RNC and the North Carolina Republican Party in Wake County last week accuses the NCSBE and members, Alan Hirsch, Jeff Carmon, Siobhan Millen, Stacy Eggers IV and Kevin Lewis of failing to require identification to prove citizenship.
The lawsuit alleges that by violating the Help America Vote Act (HAVA) and not checking the identification of approximately 225,000 voters, the agency "is opening the door for non-citizens to vote."
"The NCSBE has once again failed in its mandate to keep non-citizens off the voter rolls, fueling distrust and jeopardizing our elections," RNC Chairman Michael Whatley said in a statement. "We are committed to the basic principle – and commonsense law – that only Americans decide American elections. Deliberately failing to follow the law, right before our country’s most important election, is inexcusable. We will fight every day to ensure that NCSBE follows the law, cleans the voter rolls, and protects the vote for North Carolinians."

Democrats are already pushing back against a Republican-led plan that would temporarily fund the federal government until March, decrying a separate bill attached to the measure that requires proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration.
Speaker Mike Johnson is planning to introduce the continuing resolution (CR) next week with the hotly-contested SAVE Act tethered to it, which would require proof of citizenship to vote in federal elections, Punchbowl reported Tuesday. At the same time, a number of Democrats have called the effort a nonstarter and encouraged Republican lawmakers to be more "bipartisan."
"As we have said each time we’ve had a CR, the only way to get things done is in a bipartisan way and that is what has happened every time," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told Punchbowl.
The SAVE Act was spearheaded by Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas with five Democrats joining 216 Republicans to pass the bill in July. Roy preemptively claimed that Democrats playing "pure politics" would cause the bill to fail.
"Recall — the "SAVE" Act (I introduced it — HR8281) passed with 5 Democrats voting for it (and others privately wanting to)," Roy said in a Monday post on X. "If they vote "no" with it attached to a funding bill that funds government to March — it’s pure politics."
“Demanding outrageous partisan poison pills is a nonstarter — we’ve seen this movie before and we know how it ends,” Democratic Senate Appropriations Committee Chair Patty Murray of Washington told Punchbowl. “Senate Democrats will continue to work in a bipartisan way to ensure we can keep the government funded and deliver responsible, bipartisan spending bills that can actually be signed into law before the end of the year.”
Meanwhile, Roy’s Democratic colleagues are aiming to pin the blame on Republicans if the funding bill doesn’t go through.
