To give credit where due to Ukraine, assuming that the estimates being released from both sides of the conflict are anywhere near accurate (never a sure thing) one analyst surmised that Ukraine is now reported to have seized more territory in the Kursk region in days than Russia has captured in Ukraine since the beginning of the year. That may indeed turn out to be accurate. But the ground that the Russians have gained has been hard-fought every step of the way. The Ukrainians took over a largely rural farming area with no military significance in a border region that Putin didn't even bother reinforcing. In general, they were needed from the very beginning of the SVO. Firstly, these regions border Ukraine. They are a priori in the risk zone. They come under fire, they are attacked, heavy attack drones fly through them to Russia.
Now, through the military coordination council, all emergency services are being transferred under military control.
There is an understanding that it may not end with the "Kursk blitzkrieg". The enemy is transferring forces with an eye on the Belgorod region - Krasnoyarsk and Graivoronsky districts. It can strike Tetkino from the south and Rylsk through Glukhov. Or it can try to transfer military operations to the Bryansk region.
In the end, maybe the appearance of these groups will help legally settle the issue of payments, benefits and the status of those who fight outside the SVO zone. From conscripts to border guards.

Yes, "Kursk blitzkrieg". Proper word choice. WW11 Germany did the same thing in Kursk area at the end. Offensive, offensive last of all resources. The Russian trap as used on Germany. Complete and total surrender. Minus Z of course. Escape routes planed. Live another day in exile. Book deals, public speaking tours most likely in the states. The Z View talk show. A star is born.

IDK Grom - I used to think that. But from what I an reading, UKR is committing a lot special forces and other assets to keep Kursk. It doesnt look like UKR cares if DPR falls so long as they hold Kursk. Time will tell.

(a) How many times has Russia been invaded in the last 500 years?
(b) Whereas, IMO, Ukraine is not even a country. Look at what happened since they've got independence 30 years ago.
