Indeed. That was my first thought here too. What is going on now? Are the UAE and Saudis really stupid enough to become hostile towards each other when Iran is staring down their throats?

Note also that all players in government, whether at peace or at war are members of coalitions, which is to say each component has distinct interests. As the dominant partners in these coalitions diverge from the non-negotiable interests of coalition components, the coalitions themselves may fracture. That may be what we're seeing here.

[Rudaw] The third phase of Iraq’s "Will of Victory" operation aimed at defeating Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that they were al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) remnants concluded Friday, the Iraqi military’s top front man told Rudaw English.
"The third phase of the Will of Victory operation that was conducted by different units and forces of the Iraqi military forces ended on Friday," Iraqi Security Media Cell front man Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasoul told Rudaw.
Launched on August 5, the third phase of Will of Victory sought to clear areas in the Diyala and Nineveh provinces from ISIS.
Iraqi forces cleared 25 villages in a 1,702 kilometer square area in the Diyala province during the operation’s third phase. The forces detained 18 ISIS fighters and killed four others, according to an Iraqi Security Media Cell statement.
The operation was a collaboration between various domestic forces, including the Baghdad Operations Command, federal police, the army, intelligence services, the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU), counter terrorism units and the air force, as well as the US-led international coalition, according to Iraq’s Ministry of Defense.
Iraqi forces cleared 25 villages in a 1,702 kilometer square area in the Diyala province during the operation’s third phase. The forces detained 18 ISIS fighters and killed four others, according to an Iraqi Security Media Cell statement.
The forces further destroyed 12 tunnels and 24 dens that ISIS bandidosmurderous Moslems were using in the Diyala province to hide in, and seized 42 bombs and six mortar rounds, also according to the statement.
Rasoul said the overall operation is not over.
"The operation of Will of Victory is a continuous operation to combat ISIS remnants and sleeper cells in different areas in Iraq," he told Rudaw. "The fourth phase of Will of Victory operation will be announced soon."
The start date and areas of focus of the fourth phase will be determined by the prime minister, according to Rasoul.

If you had 'will' to begin with you wouldn't need a second, third or fourth.
Yeah, they ran through the briars
And they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes
Where the rabbit couldn't go
They ran so fast
That the hounds couldn't catch 'em
[Jpost] Israeli troops shot and killed Marwan Nasser, 26, after he opened fire on them while trying to infiltrate into southern Israel, the military said Sunday morning. The Paleostinian terrorist was wearing a green bandanna associated with Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw,’s military wing, the Izzadin al-Qassam Brigades.
"IDF observers spotted an armed terrorist approaching the security fence in the northern Gazoo ...Hellhole adjunct to Israel and Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, inhabited by Gazooks. The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. The ruling turbans then wave the bloody shirt and holler loudly about oppression and disproportionate response... Strip," the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit said in a statement. "The terrorist opened fire towards IDF troops. The troops, who were prepared for the event because of the observers, engaged the terrorist."
An Israeli tank fired at a post belonging to Hamas in response to the attempted infiltration.
No Israelis were hurt in the incident, and surrounding communities were not placed under increased security.
The incident came 24 hours after IDF troops rubbed out four heavily armed Paleostinians who attempted to infiltrate with rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), AK-47 assault rifles and grenades. The four Lions of Islam were identified as Abdullah Ismail, 21; al-Hamaida Abdullah Ashraf al-Ghomri, 19; Ahmad Ayman al-Adeini, 20; and Abdallah al-Masri, 21, all of Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip.
While the military hasn’t yet determined which group is behind the foiled attack, "Hamas is responsible for everything that happens in the Strip," IDF front man Ronen Manelis said. "There are incidents in which we can say there is a difference. [In some, there is] one person who plans an attack alone, like last week, and there are others like this one, which we see was a planned group attack."
[BREITBART] Moslem worshippers and Israeli police clashed Sunday at a major Jerusalem holy site during prayers marking the Islamic holiday of Eid al-Adha. ...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting... Paleostinian medics said at least 14 people were maimed, one seriously, in the skirmishes with police at the site, which Moslems refer to as the al-Aqsa mosque compound and Jews refer to as the Temple Mount. Police said at least four officers were maimed. Witnesses said at least two people were arrested.
Tens of thousands of Moslems had flocked to the site in Jerusalem’s Old City early Sunday for holiday prayers, police said. Jews are also observing on Sunday the Ninth of Av, a day of fasting and mourning for the destruction of the two Biblical temples which stood at the site in antiquity.
The site is the holiest for Jews and the third holiest for Moslems, after Mecca and Medina in Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... , and has long been a flashpoint at the epicenter of the Israeli-Paleostinian conflict.
Large numbers of Paleostinians had gathered at the gates of the compound early Sunday after rumors circulated that police would allow Jewish visitors to enter the site. The protesters chanted "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest) and threw stones at police, who then charged into the compound while firing stun grenades and rubber-coated bullets.
Israeli police had initially barred entry to Jewish visitors, but reversed their decision after the festivities broke out and allowed them to enter. Several dozen entered the site under close police escort and Moslem worshippers began throwing chairs and other objects at the group. The Jewish visitors left the compound shortly thereafter.
The reversal came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s religious nationalist allies called for the site to be opened to Jewish visitors. Israelis are headed to unprecedented repeat elections next month after Netanyahu failed to form a government following April’s elections.
[IsraelTimes] Jordan has managed Al-Aqsa for decades, a role that Israel recognized in its peace treaty with the Hashemite kingdom in 1994.
I was wrong in thinking the treaty dated back to 1967. Now I know better.
At least 61 Muslim worshipers were injured in the clashes, according to the Red Crescent. At least four Israeli officers were also lightly to moderately wounded, police said.
Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan’s office said on Sunday that 1,729 Jews had entered the Temple Mount earlier in the day, compared with 1,440 last year on Tisha B’Av.
[IsraelTimes] Israel has reportedly reacted with outrage following scathing Jordanian criticism of Jerusalem’s handling of events this morning at the Temple Mount, when police officers clashed with Palestinian rioters who tried to prevent Jews from accessing the holy site on the fast day of Tisha B’Av, which coincided this year with the Islamic festival of Eid al-Adha.
The Kan public broadcaster says Israel has reacted by placing the blame on the Jordan-run Islamic Waqf, which oversees the site, saying it took deliberate action to have Muslim worshipers entrench themselves inside the compound and stay there long enough to prevent Jews from entering.
The report did not cite a source or specify who in Israel made the rebuke or if and how it was conveyed to Amman.
Muslim authorities have openly admitted that they delayed the start of morning prayers and closed all other mosques in Jerusalem in order to maximize attendance at the Al-Aqsa Mosque at the Temple Mount — with the stated goal of preventing Jews from entering.
