Boss Tweed wasn't elected to anything... was released from a hospital Sunday after a wrong-way car crash Saturday night in which he drove a vehicle into an oncoming lane of traffic on Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast.
Mr. Barry's spokeswoman, LaToya Foster, said the 78-year-old former mayor, now a D.C. Council member representing Ward 8, "had a hypoglycemic attack, became disoriented and had a minor fender bender."
I know it's cruel of me to suggest this, but shouldn't "hypoglycemic attack" be in quotes of some kind? Perhaps the the former Hizzoner got his white powders confused...
Ms. Foster said both the diabetic former mayor and his passenger, whom she did not identify, were checked out for injuries.
"He's OK," she said of Mr. Barry.
Police sources said Mr. Barry crossed into the opposite lane of traffic and hit an oncoming car in the 2700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in Southeast a little after 9 p.m.
D.C. Police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump said the driver of the other car complained of injuries, but she did not have any details on the condition of that person or whether the driver was taken to a hospital. It was unclear how fast the vehicles were traveling when they collided.
Ms. Crump said the cause of the crash was being investigated. Police said Mr. Barry was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road, expired tags and not having insurance.
He's a former mayor, he can get away with that kind of stuff...
Mr. Barry tweeted late Saturday that he was "fine." He followed that with tweets Sunday saying he had been released from the hospital and was resting.
"Last night my blood sugar level dropped, which caused me to become disoriented and, as a result, I was involved in a very minor fender bender," Mr. Barry said on Twitter.

[WHAS11] As partisans prepared for the much anticipated Fancy Farm speeches Saturday afternoon, the Kentucky Democratic Party has delivered a sharp rebuke to a series of comments on Twitter from a Democratic operative who referenced the ethnicity of Elaine Chao, the wife of Republican U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell.
Please define 'sharp rebuke'. If it doesn't involve the loss of job, then the rebuke isn't that sharp...
"Google Elaine Chao, #MitchMcConnell's wife," Groob tweeted Saturday morning. "No mention of Kentucky, she is Asian.
"She's not from Ky," Groob said in a reply to a tweet questioning her attack. "She is Asian and Bush openly touted that."
As the controversy grew on social media, a statement was released on the Kentucky Democratic Party's Twitter account, denouncing the comments.
"These comments are abhorrent and have no place in Kentucky politics. We strongly denounce them," the statement read.
"My sincere apologies for poor choice of words," Groob tweeted about 15 minutes later.
Though Groob has deleted the tweets which mentioned Chao's ethnicity, several others about Chao remain.
"If Mitch McConnell is going to bring his wife in the race, then her lack of KY status is fair game," Groob tweeted.
