[SHABELLENEWS] At least five people were killed and 13 maimed in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Sunday when a boom-mobile detonated on a busy road, the security ministry said.
Security ministry front man Ahmed Mohamud said five non-combatants were killed and ten others maimed in the boom-mobile blast.
"It occurred in front of business shops along the road", he told news hounds.
The car was parked along the congested Maka al-Mukarama road and detonated remotely, security sources told Media.
Witnesses said the blast left the street littered with bodies.
"I saw several dead bodies strewn and vehicles burning. The blast was very huge," witness Abdukadir Mohammed said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the bombing fits the pattern of al-Qaeda linked Shabaab bad boys, who have carried out numerous suicide kabooms and raids in the capital targeting civilian, government and military targets.

[Libya Herald] An attempt by fighters from the Derna Mujahedeen Shoura Council (DMSC) to break through the Libyan National Army (LNA)’s blockade of the town ended in failure this morning and appears to have given the LNA the chance to take the Kasarat area in the eastern part. The move came as the head of the LNA’s Omar Mukhtar Operations Room tasked with taking Derna, Brigadier Salem Rifadi, declared that there would now be a total blockade. No food, medicines, cooking gas, petrol or anything else would be allowed in.
His decision follows the news that one of two pilots shot down over the town yesterday by the DMSC, Colonel Adel Jehani, had died, apparently executed. There have, however, still been no details as to how in fact Jehani died.
The DMSC offensive started at dawn today with muhajideen forces attacking LNA positions around the town. It led to the death of five LNA soldiers. Another four were maimed, sources in Derna said. For its part, the DMSC says it lost one man.
However, a woman is only as old as she admits... in a counter offensive during the day, the LNA are reported to have taken the Kasarat area in east Derna. Sources close to the LNA say that they are now preparing a "massive" attack on the town from east, west and south.
The LNA had already been mounting a blockade, although it was not wholly effective. People were able to get in and out. Rifadi told a Tobruk radio station today that that would all now end and that the siege would be total. Nothing would get in or out.
Ironically, he was injured in a car crash later today on the road between Tamimi, south-east of Derna, and Marj. He is reported to have suffered a broken leg and was taken to the hospital in Beida for treatment. Two guards travelling with him are said to have suffered minor injuries but are otherwise in good health.

[CBSNEWS] A disagreement in a German discotheque turned deadly Sunday after the disco operator's son-in-law left the club, returned with an assault rifle and started shooting, law enforcement officials said.
A security guard was killed and four other people were maimed, three of them seriously, during the rampage that started at the Grey club discotheque in the southwestern town of Konstanz. The suspect was fatally shot by a police officer.
Officials investigating the early-morning shooting identified the suspect as a 34-year-old who came to Germany from Iraq in 1991 as a child. They said they had no details of the dispute, but ruled out a terrorist motive.
Police said the man was the son-in-law of the club's operator and had a criminal record that included assault and drug-related convictions.
He probably did not own that gun legally, under the circumstances. German gun ownership laws are not liberal.
The suspect was not named in keeping with German privacy laws.
The dpa news agency cited police weapons expert Andreas Stenger as saying the weapon used was an M16 assault rifle of the kind used by U.S. armed forces. Other law enforcement officials said the gunman opened fire just inside the club's entrance, killing a security employee.
Police officers subsequently exchanged gunfire with the suspect on a nearby street. An officer sustained non-life-threatening wounds and the gunman died later in a hospital.

Who's going to clean up that sticky red mess he left behind?
[IsraelTimes] Security forces impound vehicles from relatives of perpetrator involved in fatal 2015 shooting of Eitam and Naama Henkin
During an overnight raid, Israeli security forces seized from the family of a Paleostinian terrorist who carried out a deadly 2015 shooting attack vehicles paid for with Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", compensation, the army said Sunday.
The West Bank raid was part of a continuing crackdown by Israeli authorities against funding for Paleostinian Lions of Islam and their families.
The vehicles, estimated to be worth tens of thousands of shekels, were financed using cash Hamas gave the families of the terror cell that killed Eitam and Naama Henkin in a drive-by shooting in October 2015, the IDF said in a statement.
The statement did not identify which family of the four-member terror cell that carried out the attack was raided or where it took place. At least four of the Lions of Islam came from families living in Nablus. It did not say how many cars were impounded.
The Henkins were driving with their four young children -- the oldest was nine years old at the time -- on the road between the northern West Bank settlements of Elon Moreh and Itamar when they were ambushed as their car slowed down at an intersection.
Four days later the IDF tossed in the calaboose Into the paddy wagon wit' yez! four members of a cell over the shooting. In June 2016, all four were convicted and sentenced by a military court to two life terms and 30 years in prison each. During the investigation two other Hamas members were also implicated in organizing the shooting.
The money paid to the families was intended to be used to rebuild the terrorists’ homes that were demolished by security forces after the attack, the statement said.
Each of the families has so far received tens of thousands of shekels, the IDF estimated.
The Paleostinian Authority also provides monthly salaries, usually via an intermediary organization, to the families of those convicted of carrying out terror attacks on Israelis or the relatives of those killed perpetrating such attacks. Israeli officials have repeatedly demanded that the payments be stopped, saying they amount to incitement to terror.
Legislative efforts are under way in both Israel and the US to cut funding to the PA if the payments continue.
In other overnight operations Saturday to arrest suspects in the Jenin refugee camp, 10 IEDs were thrown at security forces, the IDF said. Forces fired back with nonlethal weapons and identified two suspects who were apparently hit by the munitions.
Overall, 15 suspects were arrested in the West Bank for involvement in popular terror activities and violent rioting, the statement said.
[IsraelTimes] A 22-year-old man from the Israeli Arab town of Umm al-Fahm is under arrest, after telling coppers in Tel Aviv he had planned to carry out a terror attack, Channel 2 reports.
The man approached the police office in the city’s Central Bus Station and said he had planned to stab passersby, and had even obtained a knife for the purpose, but regretted his decision once he arrived and decided to throw away the knife and turn himself in. According to Channel 2, officers are unable to locate the knife.
The man is taken for questioning by Shin Bet Sherlocks.
[Inquirer] President Rodrigo Duterte wants done in the next five years what Philippine leaders have failed to do in half a century — wipe out communist rebels.
Philippine National Police Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said Duterte’s instructions to him were to focus next on fighting the New People’s Army, the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines, after the government finishes off remnants of the Maute group in Marawi City. It is not certain, however, when the war on the Maute Group in Marawi would end and that on the NPA would begin, which Dela Rosa described would be a “full scale” campaign.
Dela Rosa said that he was personally asked by the President to focus next on the NPA after the Marawi campaign is over. He said Duterte gave the instruction while they were on their way to Dumaguete City on Thursday to visit the wake of policemen who were killed in a clash with the NPA in Guihulngan City. Dela Rosa said, "The President told me ‘you better get ready, we will wipe out all NPA [members] after the problem in Marawi."
Dela Rosa said the highest number of NPA members was in Agusan, Davao and Surigao in Mindanao and Negros, Iloilo and Samar in the Visayas. Cebu and other parts in the Visayas are rebel-free, he said.
Dela Rosa said he was confident that Cebuanos and people in Central Visayas would shun the NPA and any terrorist group. He cited the case of 11 Abu Sayyaf militants who tried to penetrate Bohol through Inabanga town in April. Tips from residents helped authorities track the rebels down and kill them in separate operations that lasted for more than a month.
Dela Rosa questioned the sincerity of communist rebels in peace talks with the government because of continued attacks by the NPA on government forces.

The members of Ahrar al-Sham allegedly defected to Faylaq al-Rahman, a group that is allied with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham in the East Ghouta.
The opposition activists claimed that the Ahrar al-Sham defectors belonged to an anti-armored regiment that was stationed in the town of Irbeen.
This latest report comes as rumors of infighting between Harakat Ahrar al-Sham members have spread in the East Ghouta.
[AlMasdar] An ISIS jacket wallah has blown himself up in a building where a meeting was held between several jihadi groups in the southern countryside of Aleppo.
According to local reports, a high-level meeting was taking place between bigwigs from Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (al-Qaeda offshoot in Syria), Ahrar al-Sham ...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. Their leadership was wiped out at a single blow by a suicide kaboom at a crowded basement meeting in September, 2014... and local tribes leaders in al-Najjar village in southern Aleppo, when an ISIS bomber detonated his vest outside the facility.
Three guards were killed, others injured in the attack.
[AlMasdar] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are now on the second month of their Raqqa offensive and it appears the last half of the city is far more difficult to capture than initially expected.
Unlike previous battles around the country, the Islamic State (ISIL) is unwilling to yield any inch of Raqqa city’s southern sector, using everything in their arsenal to fight off the Syrian Democratic Forces that are pushing from several axes.
Most recently, the Islamic State has launched a large number of suicide attacks against the Syrian Democratic Forces, concentrating their efforts on inflicting as many casualties as they can on the opposing fighters.
In particular, the Islamic State launched a massive suicide attack on an SDF base in western Raqqa, killing more than 20 fighters, Al-‘Amaq News Agency claimed on Saturday.
With the battle heating up, it does not appear that the Islamic State is going to give-up the southern half of Raqqa, despite being outnumbered, outgunned, and surrounded.
[AlMasdar] One of the key components in the battle against the so-called Islamic State (ISIL) has been the participation of Syrian tribesmen from the provinces of Al-Hasakah, Al-Raqqa, Homs, Damascus, and Hama governorates, Damascus Now reported Sunday morning.
These tribesmen have no only provided necessary manpower, but their navigation of the rural lands in central and eastern Syria has been paramount in the battle to regain these territories from the Islamic State and jihadist rebels.
In particular, the Raqqawi tribesmen aiding the Tiger Forces in southeast Al-Raqqa have played an integral role in guiding the government troops through the rural territory and even negotiating with other clans to join their cause.
With the battle for Deir Ezzor coming up soon, these tribal fighters will likely play an even more important role as the government seeks to expel the Islamic State from the country.
[AlMasdar] The battle for southeast Al-Raqqa has reached a critical point, as the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) attempts to liberate the town of Ma’adan and enter the Deir Ezzor Governorate.
On Saturday, the Islamic State (ISIL) launched a big counter-attack against the Tiger Forces near the towns of Ghan Al-‘Ali and Shinan.
The terrorist group managed to drive back the Syrian Arab Army and even cutoff of their supply line to the aforementioned town, forcing the government to regroup to free the soldiers trapped by ISIL.
However, on Sunday morning, the Syrian Arab Army, alongside the Raqqawi tribes, conducted a successful counter-attack, freeing the troops that were cutoff from the government’s supply line.
As a result of this counter-attack, the Syrian Arab Army was able to advance into Ghan Al-‘Ali and seize at least 50 percent of the town – fierce clashes ongoing..
According to a military source in the area, the Syrian Arab Army lost over 40 soldiers during the Islamic State’s counter-attack, as the terrorist group’s 10+ suicide attacks caught the government off guard.
Sunday’s losses are the highest casualty toll the Syrian Arab Army has witnessed during the battle in southeast Al-Raqqa.
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been immersed in a fierce battle with the Islamic State (ISIL) forces in the Al-Raqqa Governorate’s southeastern countryside this weekend, resulting in significant losses for all parties involved.
However, the Syria Arab Army finally scored a major advance on Sunday when their forces broke-through the enemy’s front-lines and liberated three towns near the terrorist group’s stronghold of Ma’adan.
According to a military source, the Syrian Arab Army’s Tiger Forces liberated the towns of Ghanem Al-‘Ali, Jabilah, and Al-Rabiyah near the Euphrates River this afternoon.

Following a tumultuous 24 hours that saw both the government lose more than 40 soldiers during the Islamic State’s counter-offensive near Ghanem Al-‘Ali, the Syrian Arab Army struck against the terrorist forces to reestablish a supply line to the aforementioned town.
Unable to hold their ground, the Islamic State militants were forced to withdraw from Ghanem Al-‘Ali, Al-Rabiyah, and Al-Jabilah after the Syrian Army fractured their main line of defense.
With their forces descending upon Ma’dan, the Syrian Arab Army is looking to seal the southeastern border of Al-Raqqa by forcing the Islamic State out of the aforementioned town along the Euphrates River.

The attack took place in the opposition-held Sheikh Najjar village where representatives of Ahrar al-Sham ...a Syria jihadi group made up of Islamists and salafists, not that there's that much difference, formed into a brigade. They make up the main element of the Islamic Front but they don't profess adoration of al-Qaeda and they've been fighting (mainly for survival) against the Islamic State. Muhammad Abu Zayd, another front man for the group, said the attacker killed four people on the spot.
He was later identified as a ISIS terrorist, he added.
