[WASHINGTONPOST] A woman in Charleston, W.Va., may have saved her own life and the lives of many other women, as well, when she shot and killed an alleged attacker in her home last week. If we had tighter gun laws this never would have happened.
Neal Falls showed up at the woman’s home on July 18 after answering an escort ad she had placed on Backpage.com, according to police. He showed up with a “kill list,” multiple pairs of handcuffs and a Subaru full of weapons and tools, including a shovel, knives, a bulletproof vest, a machete, bleach, trash bags, sledgehammers and axes, according to Fox affiliate KPTV. Hah! That's no proof he was going to rape, murder, and dismember the hooker.
In Falls’s pocket, police said, was a list of names of potential future victims, all of whom are sex workers who advertised on Backpage, according to the Daily Dot. Probably he was just really friendly.
Now investigators are trying to determine whether Falls, 45, was responsible for a string of slayings targeting sex workers in Ohio and Nevada, the station reported. No doubt it was a case of mistaken identity. Probably the real rapist-murder-dismemberer was coming through the other window and shooting this guy, who was probably just asking directions, scared him off. The gun owner's guilty as sin, despite the fact that she's a Sex Worker, which would otherwise make her innocent.

OK, let's look at the 'crime scenes'. One of them was drunk and fell downstairs on New Years eve. (I suppose it's a possible.) One of them was hit by a truck while bicycling to work. [NEWS.YAHOO] When Melissa Mayeux first took the field, she wasn't looking to make baseball history. She was just following her older brother.
Now the 16-year-old shortstop from La Belle France is generating major league buzz in baseball circles as a prospect who could become the first female MLB player ever.
Mayeux plays on La Belle France's under-18 junior national baseball team and last month became the first female ever to be placed on Major League Baseball's international registration list, making her eligible to sign a contract with any of the 30 big league teams in the sport called "America's pastime."
"I've received a lot of messages from many girls who play baseball across the world and who told me that I had become their new idol," Mayeux told Rooters in a recent interview.
Prospects typically are placed on the international list at Major League Baseball-sanctioned events after verifying their dates of birth and citizenship. While anyone can be placed on the list, only those who have the potential to be signed are generally registered.

One player and other sources close to the Cuban delegation said eight of the 16 Cuban players had deserted, while team member Roger Aguilera put the number at seven, the latest in a series of Cuban defections across several sports.
"Everyone knows what happened to our team, we have seven of them in the United States," Aguilera said after the Cubans were hammered 13-0 by Trinidad and Tobago. Short of manpower, Cuba could only field eight players instead of the usual 11 plus five substitutes.
They are not the first Cubans to defect during the Pan Am Games. Four rowers disappeared last week, including silver medalist Orlando Sotolongo.
In January 2013, Cuba eliminated legal barriers to foreign travel, but that did not end the defections of artists and athletes, who are still susceptible to the lure of higher pay abroad. In an attempt to stop the losses, Cuba raised salaries of athletes, and began allowing them to sign contracts with foreign clubs. But the defections have continued, including at this month's football Gold Cup.

But even as the United States provided China with its highest-level access to military drills, the U.S. military leadership consistently ratcheted up the level of confrontation in the South China Sea. Most recently, a top U.S. Navy admiral participated in a surveillance flight in the region. The United States is at once inching closer to armed confrontation, while at the same time training Chinese forces in the American way of war.
RIMPAC is one of many occasions when U.S. forces have trained their Chinese counterparts. China has participated in U.S.-led counter-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean since 2008. Initially, due to language difficulties and unfamiliarity with American and allied forces tactics, techniques and procedures, China was given a separate area to patrol. But over the last seven years, cooperation has become closer, as the United States sought greater coordination of operations and closer relations with Chinese ships, by conducting combined exercises in 2013 and again in 2014. This increased interoperability allowed Chinese forces to learn counter-piracy tactics, techniques and procedures, especially those relating to how to support ships that are deployed far from land, for long periods of time. They also learned how to properly run visits and time off for their troops in foreign ports, and how to configure ships to be both efficient and comfortable for the seamen. From the U.S. Navy, the Chinese learned that allowing telephone contact with family at home enhanced -- rather than hurt -- troop morale and discipline. The Chinese were also able to study American methods for destroying chemical weapons, as they aided the U.S. Navy in destroying Syria's surrendered weapons.
China has upped the ante by deploying a nuclear submarine escort for its ships engaged in counter-piracy missions -- an added level of protection. To get live training, the United States will track any Chinese submarines as hostile, even in a cooperative environment. China knows this, and is able to use its participation in the international effort to explore the anti-submarine warfare tactics of the U.S. forces stationed on Diego Garcia Island, south of India, as well as those of U.S. and allied forces in the Gulf of Aden.

Beach access is normally open in La Belle France, and tensions often flare when towns close them off partially by granting concessions for firms offering rentals of parasols and chairs.
More than 100,000 people have signed a petition protesting the "privatization" of the beach in front of the Saudi king's villa.
French authorities may close off beach access for security reasons, however.
A ban on approaching closer than 300 meters (yards) of the villa by sea goes into effect later in the day.
King Salman was due to arrive by private plane Saturday afternoon at Nice airport and head directly to the private villa in Vallauris, located between Cannes and Antibes, a source said.
He is being accompanied by an entourage of more than 1,000 people.
