[RedState] The fix was in
Just how the Department of Justice came to give Hunter Biden a sweetheart plea deal, ignoring protocol and forgoing jail time, has become a question of keen interest for congressional members.
Now, a new report is adding more intrigue to the saga. According to The Daily Mail, one of the prosecutors who was intimately involved in formulating the controversial deal once worked directly for one of Hunter Biden’s business partners.
A prosecutor who signed off on the documents charging Hunter Biden with tax and gun crimes previously worked with one of the First Son’s business partners, DailyMail.com can reveal.
Delaware US Attorney David Weiss officially filed charges against the president’s son last Tuesday after a near five-year probe into his alleged tax crimes and foreign financial dealings.
Weiss’s deputy, Assistant United States Attorney Derek Hines, signed off on the charging documents alongside his boss and two other assistant US attorneys — indicating he has a central role in Hunter’s criminal prosecution.
According to Hines’s LinkedIn account, he previously worked as Special Counsel to ex-FBI director Louis Freeh at his private company, Freeh Group International Solutions, a lobbying and ’risk management’ consultancy that teamed up with Hunter on overseas business currently under scrutiny by lawmakers
.
United States Attorney for the District of Delaware David Weiss’ top lieutenant is Derek Hines, who serves as the Assistant United States Attorney in the same office. According to the report, Hines signed off on the charging Documents that ended up being such a boon for the president’s son.
That’s where the conflict of interest comes in. Hines once worked directly for Louis Freeh. Who is Freeh? He’s a former FBI director that was in business with Hunter Biden to the tune of a $3 million deal. Hines wasn’t just some random FBI employee either. He served as special counsel to Freeh, meaning that would have had a very close professional relationship.
This story is just astonishing to me. Even if one is to assume that Hines’ connections to Hunter Biden didn’t influence the deal, is there really any excuse for the federal government to be this incestuous? Am I really to believe that the DOJ couldn’t manage to put a full team of prosecutors on such a contentious case without one of them having a connection to Hunter Biden’s business dealings? AG Merrick Garland could have appointed a special counsel years ago to ensure none of this was an issue, and for that matter, so could both of Donald Trump’s attorneys general.
No one did, though, because this is all seen as normal in Washington. Backslaps, winks, and nods are the name of the game. Everyone knows everyone and has worked with everyone, and in some cases, that includes the people they are supposed to be prosecuting. Meanwhile, the rest of us are left to just "trust" that nothing untoward is going on as these social circles continually cross paths. Perhaps something should be done about that, regardless of what the aforementioned conflict of interest may or may not have amounted to.

[Wash Times] A White House scheduling email sent to then-Vice President Joseph R. Biden ahead of a call with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was also sent to his son Hunter who was serving on the board of a Ukrainian energy firm looking to escape a corruption probe.
In the call, the elder Mr. Biden urged Mr. Poroshenko to continue reforming Ukraine’s prosecutor general office. It’s unclear whether Hunter Biden was involved in the call outside of getting an email alert about it.
The timing of the call, however, coincides with Hunter Biden’s $1 million-a-year job on the board for Burisma, which allegedly hired him to help dodge charges from the Ukrainian prosecutor general.
The White House scheduling email was sent on May 26, 2016, from Mr. Biden’s assistant, John S. Flynn. It was disclosed by the National Archives in response to a Freedom of Information Request and mined by an online FOIA sleuth who gave it to The Washington Times.
The scheduling email from Mr. Flynn provided both Mr. Biden and Hunter Biden with the details for the vice president’s upcoming trips to Delaware and Rhode Island as well as the call to Mr. Poroshenko.
"Boss — 8:45 a.m. prep for 9 a.m. phone call with Pres Poroshenko. Then we’re off to Rhode Island for infrastructure event and then Wilmington for UDel commencement. Nate will have your draft remarks delivered later tonight or with your press clips in the morning," Mr. Flynn wrote to the then-vice president and Hunter Biden.
[Breitbart] The Biden administration hid the suspension of Iran envoy Rob Malley from Congress, after he lost his security clearance earlier this year amid an investigation into alleged mishandling of classified materials.
Malley is one of the chief architects of the defunct 2015 Iran deal, and has long been regarded as a voice for appeasement, both regarding Iran and with radical Islam in general. As CNN reported last week:
Rob Malley, the US special envoy on Iran, has been placed on leave without pay, which occurred after his security clearance was suspended earlier this year amid an investigation into his handling of classified material, multiple sources told CNN.
A US official said that Malley’s clearance was suspended amid a State Department diplomatic security investigation into the possible mishandling of classified information. Another source familiar with the matter said he was placed on unpaid leave on Thursday afternoon.
"I have been informed that my security clearance is under review. I have not been provided any further information, but I expect the investigation to be resolved favorably and soon. In the meantime, I am on leave," Malley told CNN
.
Now, the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS) reports, Congress is demanding answers — especially about why the State Department did not report Malley’s suspension in a timely fashion. JNS reported on Sunday:
Texas Republican Rep. Michael McCaul wrote a letter on Friday to Secretary of State Antony Blinken after it was revealed that Malley was put on unpaid leave last week after earlier this year being stripped of his security clearance amid an investigation into his handling of classified documents.
"The Department’s failure to inform Congress of this matter demonstrates at best a lack of candor, and at worst represents deliberate and potentially unlawful misinformation," the chairman wrote. "Given the gravity of the situation, it is imperative that the Department expeditiously provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding Special Envoy Malley’s clearance suspension and investigation and the Department’s statements to Congress regarding Special Envoy Malley."
The letter also requests that the White House make available to testify at a public hearing and provide a classified briefing on Capitol Hill by the end of July Acting Special Envoy for Iran Abram Paley and National Security Council Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa Brett McGurk.
Malley is part of a negotiating team that is thought to be moving toward a "mini-deal" with the Iranian regime. Three fellow negotiators quit earlier this year because they felt the administration was taking a weak stance.
[Breitbart] In less than three years, President Joe Biden’s “got-away tsunami” has imported an illegal alien population the size of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a new analysis detailed.
From Fiscal Year 2021 to April 2023, less than three full fiscal years, Biden’s policies at the United States-Mexico border have allowed more than 1.5 million illegal aliens to successfully cross into the nation’s interior undeterred by federal officials.
The massive “got-away tsunami,” as detailed by Andrew Arthur of the Center for Immigration Studies, is triple the got-away inflow that occurred under former President Trump from Fiscal Year 2017 to Fiscal Year 2020 when there were about 521,000 illegal alien got-aways.
Arthur said the got-away total under Biden is arguably one of the most important factors in determining the administration’s failure in controlling illegal immigration.
“The president’s policies and his DHS secretary’s performance are increasingly degrading U.S. border security and endangering us all — and we have the numbers to prove it,” Arthur wrote.
The number of got-aways who have entered the U.S. interior in Biden’s first two fiscal years and a handful of months in office is the size of the resident population of Philadelphia and exceeds the populations of San Diego, California; Dallas, Texas; Columbus, Ohio; and Charlotte, North Carolina, among others.
Thus far in Fiscal Year 2023, alone, the number of got-aways has hit reportedly more than 530,000 — a foreign population equivalent to the size of Sacramento, California.
