Several dead in explosion at a football field in Lower Shabelle
[GOOBJOOG] At least 27 people died and several others injured after an bomb went off at a football field at Muraale village in Lower Shabelle region.

According to Janaale town governor Abdrahman Yusuf Al Adala, some residents in the area found a metallic device which they tried to use as a cooking tool but went kaboom! when they placed it on fire.

"I would like to tell the people of Janaale to be cautious of old metals. If anyone finds any old rusty metallic device, they should report to authorities and not touch it to avoid such accidents," the governor said.

He further called for assistance for the people affected by the incident and also urged security agencies to clear public areas of mines and any other dangerous explosives that can pose a danger to members of public.
Courtesy of badanov, Regnum adds:
At least 27 people were killed and more than 50 were injured as a result of the detonation of an unexploded ordnance in southern Somalia, SONNA reports .

“The death toll in the village of Murale has risen to 27 people, 53 were injured as a result of the explosion of a previously unexploded shell in the Lower Shabelle region,” the official statement says.

Among the victims, about 25 children aged 10 to 15 years.
Garowe adds:
At least 27 people mainly children have died in Somalia, authorities confirmed, following an explosion caused by an unexploded ordinance, in a town that has been under the control of Al-Shabaab militants, a grothatich has been wreaking havoc in central and southern parts.

The explosive also left at least 53 people critically injured in Muraale village on the outskirts of the agricultural-rich town of Janaale, which was recently liberated from Al-Shabaab. The old bomb was found by children who may have played with it, triggering the tragedy in the country.

The explosive is said to have been left behind by the Al-Shabaab militants who have been fighting to topple the fragile UN-backed federal government of Somalia.

Misuse of weapons in Somalia is an old story given the country is that fresh from a civil war that left hundreds dead.

In the last few months, Al-Shabaab militants have been running away from some villages due to sustained military campaigns against them by the Somali National Army [SNA], the US Africa Command, the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], and the local militia.

These sustained campaigns, locals say, may have motivated the group to implant explosives and, or, forced them to leave thfrombehind while running away for safety. Al-Shabaab lost huge chunks of rural central and southern Somalia, with the government intending to secure the country by December 2024.

Somalia: Security forces end hotel siege claimed by Al-Shabaab
[AFRICANEWS] Early Saturday (June 10), Somali state media reported that the security forces had brought to an end the siege of a hotel in the capital Mogadishu. The police said 6 non-combatants were killed and 10 people injured.

Fighters from the Islamist al-Shabaab
...... the personification of Somali state failure...
group grabbed credit for the attack which took place on Friday (June 9), south of the capital.

Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and explosions.

"Tonight, we saw a big disaster here at Lido beach at (Mogadishu’s, ed) Abdiaziz District as I was having fun with my friend," eyewitness Yahye Mohammed told an AFP journalist.

"As soon as the first blast rocked area, I saw a lady fall on ground, dead, after she'd been hit by shrapnel from the earth-shattering kaboom. May Allah have mercy on the killed people."

Al-Qaeda’s East Africa affiliate, al-Shabaab, is known for carrying out attacks on hotels and other high-profile locations in Mogadishu, usually starting with a suicide kaboom.

The Pearl Beach hotel is down the street from the Ottoman Turkish Embassy and is popular with government officials.

"INSTANTLY FLED FOR COVER"
Hassan Abdirahman told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named that he was in the restaurant at the time.

"I heard the sound of gunshots which came from the beach direction and followed by the huge sound of a kaboom." He said that he escaped and saw damaged vehicles along the street.

Mulki Osman also says he and his friends "instantly fled for cover" in the restaurant when they heard explosions and gunfire shortly before 8 p.m.

"Some of my friends are still stuck inside the hotel, but the security officers managed to rescue me. I hope they stay safe," he said.

Lido Beach is one of Mogadishu's most popular areas and is busy on Friday nights as Somalis enjoy the weekend by visiting local coffee shops and ice cream parlors.

Last year, Somalia's President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud launched an "all-out war" against al-Shabaab, rallying Somalis to help flush out members of the jihadist group he described as "bedbugs".

base in the southern town of Bulo Marer last month.
Garowe adds:
The attack, officials said, started at around 7:55 pm local time, with a number of militants storming the highly fortified facility, holding a number of civilians hostage. The Pearl Hotel is frequented by high-ranking government officials, security experts said.

At least nine people were killed including six civilians, the government said, adding that three soldiers were also killed while trying to rescue several civilians who were held hostage.

The attack left 10 people seriously injured, the government said in a statement which comes several hours after the siege ended. According to officials, 84 people have been rescued including children, women, and elders.

The government said at least seven Al-Shabaab militants were involved in the attack, with five of them falling to the bullet after a crackdown by the military. The siege ended at 2:am local time on Saturday, the government added, noting that the battle lasted for 12 hours.

The militants claimed they killed over 36 people, but their assertions could not be verified independently, given that the militants often exaggerate the numbers for mileage.

4 Kashmiris among 5 with links to Islamic State arrested: DGP Gujarat
[GreaterKashmir
...a disputed territory lying between India and Pakistain. After partition, the Paks grabbed half of it and call it Azad (Free) Kashmir. The remainder they refer to as "Indian Occupied Kashmir". They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

Police have arrested five persons including a woman from Porbandar with alleged links to proscribed international terror outfit the Islamic State

They're really very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear western pols talk they're not really Moslems....
- Khorasan Province (ISKP) an affiliate of the Islamic State.

Gujarat Police said on Saturday that the arrests were made as part of a special operation and raids were still underway.

Addressing a news conference here, Director General of Police (DGP) Gujarat Vikas Sahay said that the officials of the ATS of the Gujarat Police had received information that three of the forces of Evil linked to the ISKP were planning to leave India via Gujarat.

"It is a banned terrorist organization, Islamic State - Khorasan Province. Three forces of Evil affiliated with this organization were planning to leave from Porbandar via the waterway," the DGP said.

"This information was received by the ATS of Gujarat Police. The information was properly processed and further developed," the Police official said.

"Acting on the tip-off, a team of Gujarat ATS early morning of June 9, set up a watch at Porbandar railway station and identified the three youth and held them and questioned them," the DGP said. "The three arrested from Porbandar were identified as Ubaid Nasir Mir, Hanan Hayat Shawl, and Muhammad Hajim Shah, all natives of Srinagar."
Srinagar is the summer capitol of Kashmir, and just chock full of jihadi groups sponsored, controlled by, or otherwise connected to Pakistan’s ISI. Though ISIS-K is supposed to be independent of all that.
He said that based on questioning the detained trio, two more people also linked to the ISK were held.

They have been identified as Zubair Ahmed Munshi from Srinagar and one woman, Sumerabanu Mohammad Hanif Malek, who is a resident of Surat city.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi said that five suspected forces of Evil were arrested and congratulated the Gujarat Police ATS and Surat Crime Branch for the arrests.

"Gujarat Police have been thwarting terror plots and it will continue to do so in the coming days. Gujarat Police will take forward the zero tolerance policy of the Centre as put forth by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Five suspected persons have been arrested, one is from Surat," Sanghvi said.
One India adds:
"The three men were planning to use a fishing boat from Porbandar to cross the International Maritime Boundary Line and reach Afghanistan via Iran

During preliminary interrogation, they revealed that they were trained and radicalised by a handler identified as Abu Hamza.

Iraq
Kurd from Turkey fatally shot in Sulaimani
[Rudaw] A Kurd from southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor...
was shot in Sulaimani province on Friday and died of his injuries the following day, according to media affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) that placed blame on Ankara.

Firat News Agency (ANF), a media outlet linked to the PKK, reported that Huseyin Arasan, who is from Turkey’s Mardin province, was shot three times on Friday and died in hospital on Saturday. It said the perpetrators are not known, but the attack bears "all the marks of previous killings by the Ottoman Turkish state and KDP," referring to Kurdistan Region’s ruling Kurdistan Democratic Party
...every time you hear the phrase white people, white supremacy, white anything but paint, you're listening to a Democrat. Ask him/her/it to reimagine something for you; they do that a lot, though not well. They can hear a dog whistle a mile or two away. They invented the spoils system and Tammany Hall, and inspired the addition of the word (Thomas) Nasty to the English language. They want to stop continental drift and repeal the law of unintended side effects...
(KDP) which has previously denied such accusations but has strong ties with Ankara.

Born in Turkey’s Izmir province in 1978, Arasan migrated to Sulaimani a few years ago due to legal cases against him at home. He was a member of the Mesopotamian Workers’ Association which is allegedly affiliated to the PKK. He was shot in front of an office of the association, according to ANF.

Sulaimani security forces have not commented on the murder. Rudaw English reached out to the Asayish but they were not immediately available.

Several similar attacks on PKK-affiliated people have taken place in the Kurdistan Region, especially Sulaimani, in recent years. According to ANF data, five people have been killed since 2021.

The Turkey-based Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) condemned the murder in a tweet on Saturday, saying it is one of a string of attacks against "Kurdish patriots" in the Region.

"It is the duty of the regional administration to reveal those responsible for this heinous murder as soon as possible," added the pro-Kurdish party.

Turkey has not commented on the incident.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
‘Not the time for a time-out’: Mass anti-overhaul protests held for 23rd week
[IsraelTimes] Smaller turnout as 74,000-80,000 attend main Tel Aviv rally ahead of key vote on judicial selection panel; Hungary protest leader: Don’t let democracy erode like in my home country.
The Biden administration’s covert war on Israel’s Netanyahu government continues. The Movement for Quality Government in Israel (MQG), one of the key organizations protesting against the coalition’s judicial overhaul program, is Antifa, and its cadres are paid agents of the U.S. State Department, happily demanding the complete overthrow of Israeli democracy to achieve their demands for the rearrangement of Israel’s homegrown system. MQG was previously known as V15 (for Victory 15, 2015 being the last election Bibi won against the will of a Democratic president), both names being fig leaves for its true identity as the Israeli branch of the Washington, DC-based OneVoice Movement founded by Progressive multi-billionaire Daniel Lubetzky in 2002 as an international “grassroots” front of his PeaceWorks Foundation to drive Israel to fulfill his vision for the region without him bothering to become a citizen. The US State Department gave V15 millions of dollars under President Obama, and more in recent years.
Weekly protests against the government’s intention to overhaul the justice system took place for the 23rd week in a row Saturday night, days ahead of a crucial Knesset vote on the makeup of the key Judicial Selection Committee.

Israeli television estimated that between 74,000 and 80,000 attended the main rally on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv, while organizers claimed around 100,000, alongside thousands of others in some 150 locations around the country, kicking off the 23rd week of regular protests against the currently suspended government plan. Last week’s Tel Aviv rally drew an estimated 95,000-140,000 people, and previous weeks saw some 200,000 people gather.

Many of the night’s demonstrations, including in Tel Aviv, began with a silent commemoration for the latest victims of a spiraling crime wave in the Arab community, which has claimed the lives of 102 people since the beginning of the year, ten in just the past three days.
Green on green — just a violent culture thingy having nothing to do with the War on Terror, nor the American Democratic Party-sponsored war on Bibi neither. Heaven only knows why Antifa feels a need to preen itself on helping the Arab-Israelis mourn, since they aren’t interested in the protests.
During the main rally at Kaplan Street, protesters held signs reading "dead-class citizen," which in Hebrew sounds similar to "second-class citizen," in reference to the Arab community.

After the scheduled speeches were over, a small group of demonstrators headed to the Ayalon Highway and briefly blocked southbound traffic on the city’s main thoroughfare. Police cleared the protesters after a short while.

In Haifa, former prime minister Ehud Barak
...who should be ashamed of himself for joining in this anti-democratic activity after having participated in Israeli democracy for so long...
called for a non-violent mostly peaceful civil uprising against the government.

"We haven’t won the battle yet. This is not the time for a time-out. We must not fall into illusions. We must intensify the protest and end the negotiations immediately," Barak said, referring to ongoing coalition-opposition compromise talks under the auspices of President Isaac Herzog.

"The protest must intensify and move into a civil uprising. Non-violent mostly peaceful civil disobedience," he added.
Anti-democracy in action.
Hungarian protest leader Katalin Törley
....featured on the Amnesty International website as an anti-government activist since 2016, she is by trade a high school teacher of French. So why have the organizers brought in a foreigner to what is being touted as a spontaneous patriotic Israeli grassroots upwelling of sentiment against the democratically elected Israeli government?
spoke at a protest in Modiin and likened the erosion of democracy in her home country to what Israeli protesters warn the government is trying to do in the Jewish state.

"Almost one million of the 10 million Hungarians left Hungary," she said.
...probably for economic opportunity elsewhere, as has been happening throughout Eastern Europe since the Berlin Wall fell, but do go on...
"Many grandparents only see their grandchildren on a screen. Orban’s relatives and friends win government tenders, and food prices have increased by more than 40 percent in the past year. Do not let that happen to you."

On Wednesday, the Knesset will vote to appoint two politicians to the nine-member Judicial Selection Committee, which is chaired by Justice Minister Yariv Levin of Likud. The coalition has threatened to take both spots on the panel, breaking with tradition.

Opposition leaders have said that if the coalition does so, it will signal the end of the compromise talks.

The makeup of the judicial selection panel is central to the coalition’s ongoing efforts to greatly increase political control over the judiciary. A key bill in the overhaul plan would reshape the committee and hand the government an automatic majority, giving it the power to determine most judicial appointments.

That bill is on the cusp of being passed into law, and can be brought for its final, back-to-back votes in the Knesset plenum at a moment’s notice. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
such action is almost sure to lead to a resumption of intense public opposition, the likes of which was last seen before the legislation was frozen.
Or not, as the case may be. Quite possibly public interest is fading as the citizenry tires of the usual Antifa antics disrupting their lives. I vote that Bibi’s government pushes forward with the thing by way of a live experiment to see who is right.
The judicial overhaul legislation has been frozen since late March, when Netanyahu said he would halt the plans to allow for talks with the opposition, aimed at finding a broadly accepted compromise for judicial reform. But months of talks have not produced a breakthrough, and pressure has increased within the coalition to resume the legislative push.

Netanyahu said last month, following the passage of the state budget, that "of course" the overhaul was now back on the government’s agenda. Later that day, however, he added: "We will of course continue with our efforts to arrive at a broad consensus agreement, to the extent possible, on the issue of judicial reform."

Critics say the overhaul will sap the High Court of Justice of its power to act as a check and balance against parliament, eroding Israel’s democratic character and leaving minorities unprotected. Supporters say the legislation is needed to rein in what they see as an over-intrusive court system.

AANES to try 10,000 ISIS foreign fighters
[NPASYRIA] On Saturday, the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES) announced that it would begin the trial of foreign ISIS fighters held in AANES’ prisons in line with international and local terrorism laws.

The AANES’ statement, which was published on its official Facebook page, stated that the trials would be "public, fair, and transparent" in order to protect the rights of the victims and their families.

The AANES explained that their decision was made due to the international community’s failure to respond to its calls with regard to the repatriation of foreign ISIS members, as well as to uphold justice and provide social justice for the victims.

Since March 2019, when the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) liberated Baghouz, the last ISIS stronghold, the AANES has been calling on the international community to take responsibility for finding solutions for the detained ISIS fighters. It has proposed initiatives to establish an international court or one with an international mandate.

The statement said that this does not mean that the AANES has given up on its demand for an international court, stressing that it is still urging the international community to respond to its calls.

The AANES called on the US-led Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, the United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
, and international and local NGOs to positively engage and support the trials at all stages.

The issue of foreign ISIS fighters constitutes a major burden and challenge for the AANES, as their continued detention without trial violates the international law. Furthermore, the security situation is increasingly precarious due to their continued presence, in addition to the presence of the tens of thousands of their family members, mostly women and kiddies, living in camps of North and East Syria.
Rudaw adds:
The US Department of State estimated that the fighters included approximately 5,000 Syrians, 3,000 Iraqis, and 2,000 from other countries. Repatriation of foreign fighters has been slow, with many governments reluctant to bring their citizens home amid security concerns and doubts they could have sufficient evidence to obtain convictions. Iraq’s foreign ministry spokesperson said last week that the government “has returned around 3,000 terrorist Iraqi fighters detained in Syria and tried most of them.”
