[IsraelTimes] Nehru Tawfiq, 60, an Islamist with an bad boy background, convicted of murdering 56-year-old Arsanious Wadid in sectarian attack.
...in our archives spelt Arsanios Wadid.
An Egyptian court Saturday sentenced a man to die for the April stabbing death of a Coptic Christian priest in an attack that shocked the Arab world’s most populous nation.
Nehru Tawfiq, 60, was convicted in Alexandria criminal court of murder for killing 56-year-old priest Arsanious Wadid and of illegal possession of a knife. His lawyers had argued that the killing was not deliberate. Tawfiq can appeal the verdict.
Wadid was killed at a popular seaside promenade in the Mediterranean city of Alexandria in April.
Investigators found that Tawfiq was an Islamist with an bad boy background. During last month’s court session he appeared in court in a caged-off section of the room shouting "God is great" in Arabic.
He attempted to recite verses from the Koran, the Moslem holy book, before judges ordered him to keep silent.
The attack marked the latest sectarian violence in Egypt. [CBSNews] The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega has authorized Russian troops, planes and ships to deploy to Nicaragua for purposes of training, law enforcement or emergency response.
In a decree published this week, and confirmed by Russia on Thursday, Ortega will allow Russian troops to carry out law enforcement duties, "humanitarian aid, rescue and search missions in emergencies or natural disasters."
The Nicaraguan government also authorized the presence of small contingents of Russian troops for "exchange of experiences and training."
Russia's foreign ministry spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, told the Russian news outlet Sputnik that the measure was "routine."
"We are talking about a routine — twice a year — procedure for the adoption of a Nicaraguan law on the temporary admission of foreign military personnel to its territory in order to develop cooperation in various areas, including humanitarian and emergency responses, combatting organized crime and drug trafficking," Zakharova said.
Well, if it’s routine...
She noted the law also authorizes troops from the United States, Mexico and other Central American countries for such purposes.
Ortega has been a staunch ally of Russia since his days in the leadership of the 1979 revolution that ousted dictator Anastasio Somoza. Ortega served as president from 1985 to 1990, before being re-elected to power in 2007.
Ortega's government arrested dozens of political opposition leaders, including most of the potential presidential candidates, in the months before his re-election to a fourth consecutive term last year. His government has shut down dozens of nongovernmental groups that he accuses of working on behalf of foreign interests to destabilize his government. Tens of thousands of Nicaraguans have been chased into exile.

If they have the bodies to spare, go for it. We lived with Russians in Cuba for decades. It's interesting considering the Venezuelans rulers find the Cubans cheaper. It's their money, their time.
The Iraqi popular Shiite holy man and leader of the Sadrist movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr ...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Eh? I thought all they were is an amalgamation of armed faction on the Iranian payroll.
Al-Sadr said, according to a figure close to him known as "the leader's assistant", that it has become necessary to organize al-Hashd and its leadership, separate it from the armed factions, and fire those who damage the fighters' reputation, to maintain the security and stability of the country.
"It is unacceptable to associate al-Hashd's name with politics, trade, conflicts, or political differences", he concluded.

[SHAFAQ] The Speaker of the Iraqi parliament, Mohammad al-Halboosi, on Sunday said that he "reluctantly" approved the resignation of the Sadrist politicians at the behest of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Moqtada Tater al-Sadr ...hereditary Iraqi holy man and leader of a political movement in Iraq. He had his hereditary rival, al-Khoei, assassinated only a few hours after the holy rival's appearance out of exile in 2003. Formerly an Iranian catspaw, lately he's gagged over some of their more outlandish antics, then went back to catspawry... Al-Halboosi tweeted, "at the behest of Sayyid Moqtada al-Sadr, we reluctantly accepted the resignation of our brothers and sisters, the representatives of the Sadrist bloc, from the Iraqi parliament."
"We sincerely and honestly attempted to dissuade him, but he preferred to sacrifice rather than become a holdup. For the homeland and the people, he opted to proceed with this decision."
The members of the Sadrist bloc in Iraq's parliament resigned earlier today after their leader, powerful Shiite holy man Moqtada al-Sadr, asked them to step down amid a prolonged stalemate over forming a government.
Al-Sadr's party was the biggest winner in an October general election, increasing the number of seats it holds in parliament to 73. But political disagreement among parties has hindered the parliament from electing a president and forming a government.
Al-Sadr, a populist who has positioned himself as a staunch opponent of both Iran ...They hate JewsZionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol... and the US, said in a handwritten statement that his request to politicians to resign was "a sacrifice from me for the country and the people to rid them of the unknown destiny".
Soon after, the parliamentary speaker accepted the resignations.
In a video shown on Iraq's state news agency INA, Speaker Mohammed al-Halboosi was seen signing the politicians' resignations.
