A Tacoma man stands accused of pretending to be a Marine officer. It's a strange story that's causing consternation among some decorated Marines. Reggie Buddle faces a federal charge of unlawful wearing of military medals, although it's not exactly clear as to why he may have been doing it.
"I had been introduced to him as a former marine," said Major Forrest Poole, U.S. Marine Corps. "I kind of took that and said, 'Well OK nice to meet you,' but unfortunately that is not the whole story."
According to federal prosecutors, Buddle posed as a decorated Marine captain, a self avowed chaplain who said he worked at the Marine recruiting office in Tacoma. U.S. attorneys say it is simply not true and now accuse him of unlawfully wearing the defense distinguished service medal, combat action ribbon, presidential unit citation, Vietnam service medal and USMC gold jump wings.
True American heroes were honored for their brave and distinguished service at the Mariners game Monday night. Some shared their disgust with the alleged crime. "I think it's tragic because there are so many people through the years who have earned those medals," said Captain Barbara Beil, U.S. Navy.
Buddle's daughter says this is all a misunderstanding and that Buddle is a chaplain who befriended some Marines at the Tacoma recruiting office, who allowed him to wear the uniform.

Of course they could go to Hollywood, play at make-believe and make a good living. Then they would begin to make the mistake of thinking someone gives a shit about their political views. Nevermind.

Sarge, the Navy supplies the chaplains and the corpsmen for the Marines.
I used to have a pastor who was a retired Navy Captain who had spent a lot of time with the Marines. He considered himself a Marine first and foremost.
Of course, there was also Navy LT (Father) Vincent Capodanno, who received the Medal of Honor with the Marines.

Thanks Ranbler I thought that was the case. His daughter sounds kind of delusional. Recruiters do not allow people to wear a uniform, I still believe it must be earned. I know some Air Force ROMOs (Forward Air Controllers) that used to be stationed with Army units and they thought of themselves Army before Air Force. Talk about brain emptying washing! FYI they are some TOUGH SOBs.
...many New Orleans residents, alarmed by a rising post-Hurricane Katrina murder rate and the city's struggling criminal justice system's failure to stop it, haven't been dissuaded and are following through on the urge to arm themselves.
The media is often accused of sensationalizing crime. But that's hardly necessary in New Orleans, which has logged at least 53 homicides since the beginning of the year the highest murder rate, per capita, in the nation. There were seven unrelated killings in one recent four-day stretch, including four on April 2. National Guard troops and state police have been patrolling city streets since last June. But there appears to be little law enforcement can do to quell the violence...
...a skeptical public is increasingly looking at ways to protect themselves. The topic comes up often in casual party chat and on Internet forums; a typical post on nola.com, the New Orleans Times- Picayune Web site, bears the heading "Armed Citizens Rule!" and reads, "would-be predators flee when a legally carried gun is presented instead of a wallet."
Predictably, such chatter has law enforcement officials concerned.
New Orleans population is currently less than double the population of US servicemen in Iraq. Doing the arithmetic, it is roughly 10 times more hazardous to be a soldier in Iraq than to live in New Orleans.

Glenmore - Not sure I get that math. Are you comparing the entire population of Iraq to the population of people who live in New Orleans? Don't want to look it up, but I suspect that the population of Iraq is much greater than the population of New Orleans. Maybe you need to add in the population of DC, Pittsburg, and other tough American cities to make the population correlation one on one.
Are you counting only combat deaths or are you including auto accident and other forms of death that you are not including in the New Orleans stats.
Not saying you are wrong - just wondering how you did it.

I recently looked up some murder numbers for Illinois, and more people were murdered in Illinois than soldiers were killed in Iraq DURING THE SAME TIME PERIOD. Illinois has half the population of Iraq, so it is significantly safer to be in Iraq than in Illinois. Considering Iraq's population is 25 Million and NOLA is about 250,000 I guess it is about 4 times safer to be in Iraq than in NOLA.

AT - I am comparing the violent fatalities to the US military population of Iraq to the violent fatalities to the general population of New Orleans.
About 220 so far this year in Iraq, for about 140,000 personnel, about 1 in 636.
About 50 so far this year in New Orleans for about 225,000 population, or 1 in 4500 per quarter year.
So it is not 10 times more dangerous in Iraq, but 7 times more dangerous.
Tuesday was usually family night for film director Bob Clark best known for "A Christmas Story" and the "Porky's" movies and his grown sons, Ariel and Michael.
In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Bob, 67, and Ariel headed out; it's unclear whether they were going to get something to eat or driving to Ariel's Santa Monica apartment.
They had just driven a few blocks and were heading south on Pacific Coast Highway near the Bel-Air Bay Club at about 2:20 a.m. when a GMC Yukon swerved across the lane, striking their Infiniti Q-30 sedan head-on. Father and son were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the sport utility vehicle . . . was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and gross vehicular manslaughter. . . .
Clark produced, directed and co-wrote "A Christmas Story," which was released in 1983; more than two decades later, it remains a holiday favorite, shown on television and racking up big DVD sales.
Set in the 1940s and adapted from humorist Jean Shepherd's novel "In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash," the film starred Peter Billingsley as Ralphie, a young boy determined to get a Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas despite everyone's fears that he'd put his eye out. In 1997, TNT showed the film for 24 hours straight a first for the cable channel. On the film's 20th anniversary in 2003, a two-disc commemorative DVD was issued.
In a 1997 interview with The Times, Clark said the movie struck a chord with audiences because it deals with a "special time and special feeling. Shepherd's material had the truth and heart in it."
Rest in peace, good sir, and enjoy that Red Ryder Carbine Action Range-Model Air Rifle (with the 200 shot magazine and the compass in the stock) that the angels have for you.

A possibly important bit from the article: The driver of the sport utility vehicle, Hector Valazquez-Nava, 24, of Los Angeles and passenger Lydia Mora, 29, of Azusa were taken to UCLA Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. Valazquez-Nava was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle without a driver's license and gross vehicular manslaughter.
Why was he driving without a license? Was he an illegal alien?

Even if this guy was an illegal, official hollyweird will let out nary a peep. It's un-PC to say anything bad about "undocumented" persons...

You know they'll never say Zhang Fei. The MSM thinks its that easy to get one over the unwashed masses. However, as your very question demonstrates, we now assume the driver probably was an illegal, undermining the very thing the MSM was trying to cover up.
Isn't this new world of free press Pravda and Izvestia wonderful?

I thought it meant he'd had his license revoked or suspended for previous DUI's. It's what most do - get back in the car drunk again - and without a license. Typical escalating drunk driving die hard. Further reports should reveal just how many priors.

...A Christmas Story was filmed not far from my old neighborhood in Cleveland. The biggest reason I watch that movie every year is because it's like going back home. God bless you and your sons, Mr. Clark, and my God comfort and watch over your family.

ZF, maybe not. If my memory serves me correctly, most illegals also get done for failing to have current vehicle registration and insurance along with the ever popular no license charge. Prosecutors always like to load up the charges so they can plea bargain some of them away later.
He probably just can't stay off the sauce and has had a previous DUI (or two...or three or more....).
-----------------
I just hope that Mr Clark's family can find comfort and solace with their friends, and know that many people are thankful for his work on "A Christmas Story".

In the purgatory of a bad internet connection. I now live in fear of any more "new, wonderful" equipment my sweetie brings home....had to get additional stuff just to make it all compatible.
Plus, the Tsarevich is starting to wander off from where I put him down. It's amazing that someone who can't even crawl yet manages to scoot and roll across the floor as quickly as he does. ;)

Right boys. Well, in good old New Mexico, Governor Richardson [D-wanabe President] has directed the state offices to "don't ask, don't tell" when they provide services to illegals. So yes indeed, at least there you can be an illegal with a couple DUIs and suspended license. And the Motor Vehicle Dept is infamous for selling genuine NM drivers license even after working hours. For the right incentive of course. Wonder why the State Dept is pushing for passports for cross border trips to our neighbors?

His medical bills, court costs, jail costs, then prison costs. not to mention our insurance premiums go up to cover the uninsured..
Our Reverse Christmas Story!
RIP Clark & son, and God his family.

Yet another uncounted cost of illegals. A favorite author of mine had to quit writing after a severe auto accident. An unlicensed illegal driving a log-carrier truck plowed into her car. The phyical injuries and some brain damage just made it impossible for her to write anymore. Plus, she was driven to bankruptcy by the medical bills since the illegal driver of course had no insurance.
(Itar-Tass) -- Major Dmitry Ostroverkhov, an officer of the Baltic Fleet, has rescued a private, shielding him with his own body as a grenade exploded during a drill. The incident occurred at the Pervomaisky Training Center during a hand grenade handling drill, press service chief of the Baltic Fleet Yuri Kuroyedov told Tass on Wednesday. The officer heard a characteristic sound, indicating an early start of the detonator, when the private was in a trench. The officer reacted instantaneously: he forced the private out of the trench and shielded him with his body.
The officer received fragmentation wounds of medium seriousness as the grenade exploded in the well-protected trench. The wounded officer was hospitalized. There is no threat to his life. The private has survived the accident unhurt. Acting Baltic Fleet Commander Vice-Admiral Vasily Apanovich and Chairman of the Kaliningrad regional Duma Sergei Bulychev visited the wounded officer at his hospital bed. They highly praised the officer's conduct, saying, "It was an act of courage worthy of a Russian officer."

A SIKH community leader could be blinded for life after a mystery attacker threw corrosive chemicals in his face. Family man Amarjit Singh Uppal, 49, was attacked on his drive in a Leeds suburb by a man who may have lain in wait for him.
The father-of-four, who is assistant general secretary at the Sikh temple in Chapeltown Road, Leeds, was in hospital last night being comforted by his distraught wife and family members. He has undergone treatment but it is feared that the damage will result in blindness.
He was attacked by a black man in his late 20s who appeared to be mixing a solution in a metal tray as he approached. The motive for the attack is not known but detectives believe Mr Uppal was the intended target. The substance was corrosive enough to damage the paintwork of two cars but police do not yet know what it is.
Detective Inspector Adrian Taylor described the incident as "horrendous" and "unprovoked". He said: "This is a nasty attack and the victim may be permanently blinded. The victim is a family man who is not known to the police in any way. At the moment it is being treated as an unprovoked attack.
"It is an horrendous attack. The injuries are serious and catastrophic for his and his family's life."
Mr Uppal has told police that he did not know the man who attacked him. He is due to be interviewed again by detectives in a bid to build up any background which may explain why the attack happened.
Mr Uppal was attacked as he stepped from his car in Carr Manor Road, Moortown, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday. He managed to get inside his semi-detached home and rinse his eyes before an ambulance arrived.
Police officers were yesterday conducting fingertip searches around Mr Uppal's home and a stretch of the road was cordoned off.
Neighbours described Mr Uppal as a quiet and respectable family man. One man, who asked not to be named, said: "He is quite well-known in the Sikh Indian community. He volunteers as a secretary at the Gujarat temple and is very well-respected.
"It's a horrendous attack. I have no idea at all why someone would do this to him, especially because it appears the person targeted him."
I think I know why ...
Nirmal Singh, a secretary at the temple, described Mr Uppal as a hard working man who did a lot of voluntary work at the temple. "He works at an engineering firm and is always working at the temple.
"He is a non-smoker and non-drinker and has been involved at the temple for several years.
"What has happened is terrible and very sad. We will say prayers for him on Friday."
Local councillor Mark Harris said: "This was a particularly unpleasant attack. There is no place in Leeds for this sort of thing. I am extremely sorry for the family concerned."
Police say the suspect ran along Carr Manor Road after the attack. He is described as black, aged 25-50, about 5ft 5in tall, with a medium skin tone. He wore a short dark jacket and dark trousers.
Mr Taylor has appealed for witnesses to contact police. "Early indications suggest that this is a targeted attack but it's essential that we identify the motive as soon as possible," he added.

Over 20 years ago, a Mohammed Siddiqui set up an "Islamic Parliament" as the "primary" legal entity for UK Muslims. People never learn: Muslims CANNOT accept a secular state other than on provisional terms. When an American Muslim expresses love of country, it is taqiyah in action. They are loyal to their genocide cult. You can trust a koranimal as far as you can spit against a hurricane.
(Itar-Tass) - The Kamchatka regional administration has asked the Russian cabinet to urgently adopt a decision to allocate additional funds in the fourth quarter of this year to guarantee the seismic safety of buildings on the peninsula. Addressing a meeting here on the development of the energy and transport infrastructure of the region, Deputy Minister for Regional Development Vladimir Dedyukhin warned that the danger of destructive earthquakes in the most densely populated areas of Kamchatka is steadily growing, but no large-scale construction jobs were undertaken there so far. Since Kamchatka's basically one long string of volcanos, probably the best way to guarantee the seismic safety of its buildings would be to build them elsewhere.

Seem to recall this article from 2006 - prob given new significance due to JAPAN + VANUATU + now SOLOMON ISLANDS QUAKES. The real issue, however, IMO remains the perceptions and treatment of Russian locals to Chinese, Korean, etc foreign labor. CHINA-NK = GERMANY > see RUSSIA as their manifest destiny, wid China already moving into the Russian Far East, while Germany eyes the Russian West = Euro-side [for only?]investment.
(Itar-Tass) - A Chita court on Tuesday extended custody of ex-YUKOS chief Mikhail Khodorkovsky in a Chita pre-trial detention prison until July 2. His lawyer Karina Moskalenko told Itar-Tass that a request of the Russian Prosecutor-General Office has been thus granted. Chita, northeast of Ulan Ude, is Kilometer 6166 of the Trans Siberian Railway. The next major stop, Skovorodino (7275 km), is the capital of Nowhere. Chita doesn't even qualify as that.
Khodorkovsky had been taken from a penitentiary, where he serves his 8-year term, to Chita for an investigation under a new criminal case against him. The lawyer said that such court decision was quite expectable, and she would appeal it in a higher court. The court is expected to review an extension of custody in the Chita detention prison of MENATEP chief Platon Lebedev.
The second criminal case against Khodorkovsky and Lebedev was instituted on charges of the theft of state-owned shares, the theft of oil and money laundering. According to the investigation, Khodorkovsky and Lebedev stole by fraud and by way of compiling fictitious documents shares in a subsidiary of the Eastern Oil Company, causing major harm to the state.
According to the Russian Prosecutor-Generals Office, they also stole oil of the companies Samaraneftegaz, Yuganskneftegaz and Tomskneft worth over 850 billion roubles in the period from 1998 to 2003. In 2005, Khodorkovsky and Lebedev were found guilty on seven counts and sentenced to 8 years.

Can't wait to see the next census report. Mandatory sharia law in India's most populous state is next
ALLAHABAD: In a landmark judgement, the Allahabad High Court on Thursday held that Muslims cannot be treated as a religious minority anymore in Uttar Pradesh.
Justice S N Srivastava gave the ruling after considering various criteria including the population of Muslims as enumerated in the census reports of 1951 and 2001.
The judgment, which is likely to cause polarisation among political parties, comes two days ahead of the first phase of the crucial Assembly elections in UP starting on Saturday.
The court said the UP government should treat members of the Muslim community as equal to those belonging to the non-minority communities without discrimination in accordance with law.
The judgment was given on a writ petition filed by a madarssa of Ghazipur district, challenging out-of-turn grant-in-aid to certain other minority institutions.
The court also asked the UP government to treat all Muslim institutions applying for grant-in-aid at par with non-minority institutions without any discrimination.
