[New York Post] Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine is recovering after he was beaten to a pulp by "three or four thugs" in the bathroom of a South Florida gym Tuesday night, his attorney said Wednesday.
The men cornered the rainbow-haired 26-year-old musician and ex-con — whose real name is Daniel Hernandez — and pounced on him inside the sauna of an LA Fitness, according to video footage posted online by OnlyInDade.
6ix9ine tried to fight back against the ruffians — but failed, his lawyer said.
"Employees heard the disturbance and the perpetrators fled," the attorney, Lance Lazzaro, told NBC Miami.
"Police in South Florida were called and he was transported via ambulance to a local hospital."
A clip of the beatdown was posted online and showed 6ix9ine lying on the bathroom floor in a fetal position as the angry men struck him with repeated blows.
6ix9ine’s face was left with slashes and bruises after the altercation.
The Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office said he was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

[NYPOST] A brave security guard likely thwarted a mass shooting when he intercepted a deranged gunman wearing a devil mask who was trying to enter a packed Tampa strip club early Sunday morning.
Manny Resto — a former professional wrestler-turned-doorman — intercepted Michael Rudman, 44, as he tried to force his way into the Mons Venus "Mons Veneris?" Really? They can put that on a sign in public?
with a 9mm pistol at about 1:15 a.m., according to Fox 13 Tampa Bay.
"I saw him raise his hand, and he had a gun," Resto, 55, said during a presser afterward. "I saw him point it towards the door, and I decided that he was not going to enter the club and hurt anybody."
Resto, who was once known by the ring name of the "Puerto Rican Punisher," sprang for the gun and sparked a full-on brawl with the masked Rudman that was captured on the club’s security cameras.
Resto knocked the gun away as the two battled, then picked it up and held Rudman at gunpoint as another bouncer, Danny Baham, helped subdue him, the video showed.
“We’re all thankful for their heroism,” Interim Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said at a press conference in which he was flanked by Resto and Baham. “I have no doubt that had they not stepped in, many lives would have been lost.”
The gun went off once during the minute-long struggle, Bercaw said. But the round only hit the club’s door.

[NYPOST] Two people were shot at a Denver high school on Wednesday and the campus was placed on lockdown while cops searched for the gunman.
"The Denver Police Dept is responding to a shooting at East High School," cops said on Twitter around 10 a.m. local time.
"Unknown number of victims at this time. Investigators are working to gather information, expect large police presence in the area."
In a follow-up tweet, the department said "two adult victims have been located and transported to area hospitals."
Dever Police Chief Ron Thomas said during a press briefing at the scene that the shooter was a student at the school and the individual was on the loose.
"There was a student, as was alluded to," Thomas said. "As part of a safety plan they were undergoing a search. During that search obviously, a weapon was retrieved, a handgun was retrieved and several shots were fired, striking those two individuals.

[Epoch Times] Pfizer examined possible ways its COVID-19 vaccine causes heart inflammation, a newly disclosed document shows.
The company, in a 2022 white paper, acknowledged that its vaccine, BNT162b2, may be causing myocarditis—which is heart inflammation—and a related condition called pericarditis. Pfizer scientists claimed that the inflammation likely wasn’t the result of direct cardiotoxicity but didn’t rule out several other possible mechanisms, including that it stemmed from immune activity.
"Although the BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine is optimized ... it is possible, especially in certain individuals with genetic predisposition and underlying conditions that the immune responses to mRNA may not be sufficiently turned down and drive the activation of an innate and adaptive immune response," the scientists wrote in the white paper. "This may lead to the excessive activation of proinflammatory cascades which contribute to the development of myocarditis," they wrote.
In the February 2022 paper, obtained and published by Project Veritas, Pfizer employees say that the company hadn’t defined myocarditis as an adverse reaction to its vaccine, meaning it hadn’t agreed that its vaccine causes myocarditis. It claimed without proof that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks, but a growing number of experts disagree, especially for young people. Including the Florida Surgeon General report
Cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough reviewed the paper. He told The Epoch Times via email that the lipid nanoparticles in the mRNA shot are "widely distributed in the body in the circulation for a month or more," which "allows myocardial blood flow to repeatedly bathe the heart with vaccine products activating systemic and tissue immune response."
Dr. Robert Malone, who helped develop the mRNA technology, said that lipid nanoparticles do activate the human immune system and that the RNA in the vaccine leads to inflammatory responses in the cells and tissues.
"This strong proinflammatory response of the mRNA/lipoplexes is the reason I (and others including [biotechnology company] Genzyme) abandoned further research into this technology in the late 1990s and turned to other delivery methods such as direct (’naked’) injection and use of pulsed electrical fields," Malone told The Epoch Times via email.

[The Blaze] The federal government is amassing a network of artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities through a series of federal grants to researchers and businesses, according to a report at the Federalist.
The report states that through more than 500 federally funded contracts or grants since 2020, the government is seeking to take a firm grasp on "misinformation" and "disinformation," using AI and ML to tune in to internet chatter.
The Federalist reports that the systems will have the ability to identify the origins of what the government deems to be threatening messages or hate speech in real time. Therefore, it would be possible to prevent amplification of the speech before any unapproved messaging goes viral across internet platforms.
Some of the companies receiving federal funding include websites like NewsGuard, which received $750,000 from the Small Business Innovation Research Center to develop its "Fingerprints" program, which the company describes as "tracking disinformation campaigns with human intelligence and AI."

Stop and think of all the things that the DC Swamp and Global Elites attempted to mislead us on between Oct 2019 to Dec. 2022.
Their use of _ _ _ agencies, spook teams, MSM & Social Media to spy, threaten, ban and even eliminate as needed. All to maintain the false narrative, starting with the Wet Market and Bats lies.
A starter list of Questions:
Will those who ridiculed, professionally tarnished and financially ruined people presenting the truth ever be punished?
Will their victims be compensated?
Will the blame for OVER 6.8Million deaths be placed?
Because this man made pandemic now ranks 4th in history for the mass murder of non-combatant deaths.:

[Hot Air] There are some interesting suggestions in the Congressional Budget Office’s ideas for paring operating expenses, in particular, the Veterans Administration. Reading one of them late last night was pretty alarming — it discusses adding a "means test" or income threshold to veterans receiving disability payments.

'Means Testing' for Social Security soon to follow.
Less than 2% enter the military. A much, much smaller percentage of that 2% qualify for some form of disability. For those who DO qualify, a majority of the disability comp is a tax deduction based on a percentage of disability, NOT actual cash payments.
Other than a thrashing of Trump voting veterans, what would the gov't gain from a reduction of VA benefits ?

They already introduced screening for service related injuries and disabilities, ranking them on a scale to the degree it effects the applicant and then the priority that applicant receives. They have always been very parsimonious on recognizing the degree of disability due to service.

So, because I worked a second career and managed the disabilities from my military career and their impacts, to be successful at it as well, and paid Social Security Taxes for 45 years, all resulting in a decent retirement income, I need to be means tested because I managed my life prudently?
Like the military career promise of lifetime healthcare, a convenient series of justifications will end up breaking another solemn contract between citizen and state.
The worst part of it, is the utter insult, that they will do this, not for a national emergency or disaster, but to pay for healthcare and hotel rooms for illegal aliens and transgender surgery.

So far the SS means testing has been limited to making up to 85% of benefits count as taxable income for those of higher income, under the rationalization that those benefits derived from employer contributions and growth, so the recipient hadn’t yet paid taxes on them (unlike the 15% + that were paid in from after-tax income.

If you earn more than $25k, half of your SS benefits are taxable. If you earn more than $34k -- you know, the evil, rapacious rich -- 85% are taxable.

Long predicted. It would have happened even without the current drain on the public purse by the inflow of illegals — in fact was expected sooner, but raising the retirement age by a few years plus increasing paycheck withholding for Social Security and Medicare ...plus increased employment during the Trump years all slowed down the emptying of the bookkeeping reservoir.
Unfortunately, no matter how just, promises made that can’t be kept will not be.
I need to be means tested because I managed my life prudently?

[Garowe] Æthiopia's parliament on Wednesday removed the rebel Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF) from an official list of terrorist groups, a key step in the grinding of the peace processor following the two-year conflict in the country's north.
"The house has approved the decision to lift the TPLF's terrorist designation with a majority vote," the parliament said on Facebook.
The move will strengthen the November 2022 peace deal between the TPLF and the federal government, it said.
"It was remarked during the discussion of the draft decision that lifting TPLF's terrorist designation is indispensable to uphold the peace agreement held between the federal government and TPLF," it said.
The TPLF, which once dominated Æthiopian politics, was officially designated a terrorist organization in May 2021, six months after the war erupted.
During the brutal conflict, the TPLF briefly came close to marching on the capital but was beaten back by forces loyal to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
Under the terms of the peace deal signed in South Africa's capital Pretoria, the TPLF agreed to disarm in return for the restoration of access to Tigray, which was largely cut off from the outside world during the war.
Since the deal, there has been some resumption of basic services and aid deliveries to Tigray, which has faced dire shortages of food, fuel, cash and medicines.
Access to the region of six million people remains restricted, and it is impossible to verify independently the situation on the ground.
The fighting has killed untold numbers of civilians, displaced more than two million and left millions more in need of humanitarian aid.
Estimates of casualties vary widely, with the United States saying that as many as half a million people have died while Olusegun Obasanjo, the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. Æthiopia's foreign ministry in turn accused the US -- which has long regarded Addis Ababa as one of its major partners in Africa -- of adopting a "partisan and divisive ...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled... approach".
Since the peace deal, communications, banking and electricity are slowly being restored to Tigray, with national carrier Æthiopian Airlines resuming commercial flights between Addis Ababa and Tigray's capital Mekele in December.
The conflict broke out when the TPLF attacked military installations, setting off a major offensive by Abiy's government with backing from Eritrea.
[EN.ALGHADEERTV.IQ] Washington believes it’s the "government of the world," Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has claimed
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has bristled over his government being accused by the US State Department of human rights ...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you... abuses, and dismissed his country’s neighbors to the north as "liars."
Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday in Oaxaca, Mexico, Lopez Obrador responded angrily to Monday’s State Department report on human rights. US President Joe The Big Guy Biden ...46th president of the U.S. You're a lyin' dog-faced pony soldier. Of course Corn Pop is a real person.... ’s administration claimed there were credible reports of unlawful killings by Mexican authorities, as well as forced disappearances, torture and otherwise inhumane treatment of civilians. The US also chided Mexico for corruption, rampant crime and low rates of offenses being prosecuted.
Asked by a news hound about the accusations, Lopez Obrador said, "It’s not true. They’re liars." He added, "It’s not worth getting angry about."
That’s just how they are." The US believes "it’s the government of the world."
Lopez Obrador made his comments before a scheduled meeting with former US Secretary of State John F. I was in Vietnam, you know Kerry Former Senator-for-Life from Massachussetts, self-defined war hero, speaker of French, owner of a lucky hat, conqueror of Cambodia, unsuccessful presidential candidate, and utterly failed Secretary of State... , now Biden’s climate envoy. Relations with Washington have soured in recent weeks amid a spate of kidnappings of US citizens in northern Mexico, including a case in which two people were killed by a group associated with a narco mob.
The Mexican president has suggested that an "anti-Mexico" conservative element in the US government has inflamed tensions between the countries and used the fatal kidnapping incident to make attacks on his country’s safety record. "Mexico is safer than the United States," he told news hounds last week in response to the controversy.
State Department front man Vedant Patel responded to Lopez Obrador’s criticism on Tuesday by defending the US allegations against Mexico’s government. "The reported involvement of members of Mexican police, military and other government institutions in serious acts of corruption and unlawful arbitrary killings remain a serious challenge for Mexico, and that’s why they were highlighted in our report."
The State Department is mandated by Congress to produce its report on Mexican human rights annually, Patel said, adding that the US has domestic challenges of its own. "We have never been ones to indicate that we are the government of the world or some kind of edict like that."
[CNBC] The Federal Reserve on Wednesday enacted a quarter percentage point interest rate increase, expressing caution about the recent banking crisis and indicating that hikes are nearing an end.
Along with its ninth hike since March 2022, the rate-setting Federal Open Market Committee noted that future increases are not assured and will depend largely on incoming data. DJ was up slightly at about 2pm, fell about 700 points after the Fed's announcement
The current Fed rate of about 5% is pretty near the 30 year average at this point. Unfortunately, inflation is still too high however so it is reasonable to expect another rate hike or two or three
Direct Translation via Google Translate. Edited.
The Federal Reserve System of the United States of America raised the federal funds rate by 25 basis points to 4.75-5.0%. This is the highest value since 2006.
"The [Open Market Committee] aims to achieve maximum employment and 2% inflation over the long term. In support of these goals, the committee decided to increase the target range of the federal funds rate to 4.75 - 5.0%," TASS quotes the regulator.
Prior to this, at its first meeting following the results of January 2023, the US Federal Reserve decided to raise the key federal funds rate to 4.50-4.75%. The next increase was approved unanimously, the regulator said in a statement.
The reason for the increase was the desire to achieve "maximum employment and inflation at 2% in the long term" . The rate hike was called justified in the context of the country's monetary policy.
Before the first increase in 2023, as REGNUM reported , the key US federal funds rate increased in December to 4.25-4.5% per annum, which was noted as the highest level in 15 years.

[Epoch Times] The rate of myocarditis spiked in the military in 2021, newly disclosed data show. The data was downloaded by a whistleblower and presented to Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.). Myocarditis, a form of heart inflammation, is a serious condition that can lead to death.
Diagnoses of myocarditis jumped 130.5 percent in 2021 when compared to the average from the years 2016 to 2020, according to data from the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED).
All four of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized in the United States can cause myocarditis, according to unnamed U.S. officials. They added a warning for Johnson & Johnson’s shot this month.
"The most recent DoD whistleblower provided my office with DMED data that showed different percent changes compared to what DoD provided last year," Johnson, the top Republican on the Senate Subcommittee on Investigations, wrote in a March 21 letter to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

[informationliberation] Two influential members of Israel's Knesset have introduced a bill to outlaw teaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Israel and sentence violators to prison.
Israel already bans Christians from proselytizing minors but this new bill will go even further and "ban any and all efforts to tell people about Jesus."
From All Israel News, "EXCLUSIVE: Two Knesset members propose legislation to outlaw sharing the Gospel in Israel and send violators to prison — could it become law?":
JERUSALEM, ISRAEL — Is it possible that the Israeli government this year could pass legislation making it illegal for people to share the Gospel message in the very land where Jesus was born, raised, preached, died, buried and rose from the dead?
Unfortunately, yes.
Possible is not at all the same as likely.
As Palm Sunday and Easter approach — the two most sacred days on the calendar for those who follow Jesus as both God and Messiah — two members of the Knesset (Israel’s parliament) introduced a bill last week that would ban any and all efforts to tell people about Jesus.
The bill would send violators to prison.
[...] The proposed legislation would outlaw all efforts by people of one faith who, in any way, want to discuss or try to persuade people of other faiths to consider changing their current religious beliefs.
The punishment for doing so would be "one year imprisonment."
If the conversation is with minor — someone under the age of 18 — the punishment would be "two years imprisonment."
This bill would apply to people having spiritual conversations with Israelis of any religion.
However, in their official explanation of the bill, the two Israeli legislators specifically emphasized the warning to stop Christians, in particular.
The bill’s primary objective, therefore, appears to be making it illegal for followers of Jesus ("Yeshua" in Hebrew) to explain why they believe that Jesus is both Messiah and God with the hope that Israelis might consider following Him.
The bill does not only make a simple personal conversation about Jesus with another individual a crime.
It would also make it illegal for "someone who solicits a person — directly, digitally, by mail or online — in order to convert his religion."
Thus, producing and publishing online videos explaining the Gospel to Jewish or Muslim people in Israel — and to those of any other religious faiths — would suddenly become illegal.
Publishing books, other printed literature, online articles, podcasts, or other forms of media that explains the life and ministry of Jesus and His message found in the New Testament would also become illegal.
So would discussing the Gospel message via email, text messages, written letters and/or on social media, including answering questions initiated by people who don’t follow Jesus.
All Israel News has the full text of the bill.
This is how Christians are treated when they preach the Gospel in Israel:
A new Pew Research poll in America found that Evangelicals have a +39 favorability rating towards Jews but Jews have a -40 favorability rating of Evangelicals.
Jews having a favorable of -40 for Evangelical Christians while Evangelical Christians are +39 towards Jews will never stop being funny.

Anti-Christian attitudes are even worse in Israel.
In 2019, the pro-Israel Christian TV broadcasting network Daystar had their headquarters burned to the ground by suspected Jewish extremists who were never caught.
The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem warned last year that "our presence in Jerusalem is under threat."
"Our churches are threatened by Israeli radical fringe groups," Patriarch Theofilos III said. "At the hands of these Zionist extremists the Christian community in Jerusalem is suffering greatly. Our brothers and sisters are the victims of hate crimes. Our churches are regularly desecrated and vandalized. Our clergy are subject to frequent intimidation."
Just last month, a Jewish extremist from America desecrated a statue of Jesus inside a Jerusalem church.
"We cannot have idols in Jerusalem," the Jewish-American vandal said. "This is a very serious matter, we cannot worship stones of false gods in Jerusalem."

A poll from Gallup released last week found that Israel is losing support among American Democrats, though support among Republicans - especially Evangelicals -- remains strong.
For the first time ever, Democrats said "their sympathies in the Middle East now lie more with the Palestinians than the Israelis, 49% versus 38%," Gallup reported:
Today's attitudes reflect an 11-percentage-point increase over the past year in Democrats' sympathy with the Palestinians. At the same time, the percentages sympathizing more with the Israelis (38%) and those not favoring a side (13%) have dipped to new lows.
Sympathy toward the Palestinians is also at a new high among political independents, up six points to 32%. However, more independents still lean toward the Israelis (49%).
Republicans' views are unchanged, with nearly eight in 10 (78%) continuing to sympathize more with the Israelis while 11% side with the Palestinians.
All Israel News said the bill to outlaw teaching the Gospel in Israel has a solid chance of passing now that Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox Jewish members control the legislature.
"These members are far more aggressive in this legislative session than ever before in pushing for legislations to be passed that advance their theological worldview," All Israel News reported.
Posturing for the rubes always carries the risk that it will be taken seriously.

Barabas, or Yeshua Bar Abba as he was known back, was also a rebel who was accused of killing Romans. He is the one who the Jews wanted freed in stead of Jesus (whose name was also Yeshua) because Bar Abba was actively fighting against the Romans where Jesus was not.

My understanding of the Jewish view of Jesus is that He was a Jewish rebel who tried to take on Rome and got killed.
A heretic, certainly, though I never understood him as aiming at Rome. But he wasn’t the only claimant to being messiah among the Jews. A century (132 CE) later Bar Kochba triggered the second or third Jewish-Roman war — depending whether one counts the Kitos Revolt, which took place outside of the Holy Land, as #2 — and actually ruled Israel as a prince for three years before Rome reconquered it. The first Jewish-Roman war started in 66 CE, a generation after Jesus died, and had nothing to do with him as far as I am aware.
Wikipedia has a page of claimants to being the Jewish messiah here, most of which I’m not familiar with, though Shabbatai Zvi in the 17th century got a great many people across Europe to sell all their belongings and follow him through the Ottoman empire to the Holy Land... except that the Ottomans caught him and persuaded him to convert to Islam. I believe those who followed him mostly ended up slaves, but who knows. The most recent claimant is the Chabad rabbi Menachem Schneerson, who died in 1994. None has delivered the promised Messianic Age ruled by a descendant of the House of David from Jerusalem, which is definitive as far as we’re concerned.
Background: SARS-CoV-2 that causes COVID-19 disease and led to the pandemic currently affecting the world has been broadly investigated. Different studies have been performed to understand the infection mechanism, and the involved human genes, transcripts and proteins. In parallel, numerous clinical extra-pulmonary manifestations co-occurring with COVID-19 disease have been reported and evidence of their severity and persistence is increasing. Whether these manifestations are linked to other disorders co-occurring with SARS-CoV-2 infection, is under discussion. In this work, we report the identification of toxin-like peptides in COVID-19 patients by application of the Liquid Chromatography Surface-Activated Chemical Ionization - Cloud Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry. Methods: Plasma, urine and faecal samples from COVID-19 patients and control individuals were analysed to study peptidomic toxins' profiles. Protein precipitation preparation procedure was used for plasma, to remove high molecular weight proteins and efficiently solubilize the peptide fraction; in the case of faeces and urine, direct peptide solubilization was employed.
Results: Toxin-like peptides, almost identical to toxic components of venoms from animals, like conotoxins, phospholipases, phosphodiesterases, zinc metal proteinases, and bradykinins, were identified in samples from COVID-19 patients, but not in control samples. Conclusions: The presence of toxin-like peptides could potentially be connected to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Their presence suggests a possible association between COVID-19 disease and the release in the body of (oligo-)peptides almost identical to toxic components of venoms from animals. Their involvement in a large set of heterogeneous extra-pulmonary COVID-19 clinical manifestations, like neurological ones, cannot be excluded. Although the presence of each individual symptom is not selective of the disease, their combination might be related to COVID-19 by the coexistence of the panel of the here detected toxin-like peptides. The presence of these peptides opens new scenarios on the aetiology of the COVID-19 clinical symptoms observed up to now, including neurological manifestations.

[Popular Mechanics] Joseph Dituri, a University of South Florida professor, hopes to do more than set a world record by living underwater for 100 days. He hopes to become "superhuman."
"The human body has never been underwater that long, so I will be monitored closely," Dituri says in a news release. "This study will examine every way this journey impacts my body, but my null hypotheses is that there will be improvements to my health due to the increased pressure." "Haven't you heard about shrinkage??"
Dituri, who also served as a saturation diving officer in the U.S. Navy for 28 years, believes that an earlier study—which showed cells exposed to increased pressure doubled within five days—suggests that he can increase his longevity and prevent aging-related diseases by living in a pressurized environment. "So, we suspect I am going to come out super-human," he says.
The 55-year-old Dituri will be staying in a 100-square-foot habitat 30 feet below the surface at Jules’ Undersea Lodge near Key Largo. While he's down there, Dituri will continue teaching his biomedical engineering class online while a medical team documents his health by routinely diving to his habitat to run tests. Before, during, and after the project, Dituri will undergo psychosocial, phycological, and medical tests that include blood panels, ultrasounds, electrocardiograms, and stem cell stets.

It is funny but it is an interesting scientific endeavor. We already have knowledge of people living at lower pressures in the Himalayan mountains, so a slightly higher pressure environment will be useful data in regards to potential future endeavors. He's putting himself at risk for this experiment. To me its no different than if we had a way to explore the effects of living in slightly higher gravity. I seriously doubt there will be any real benefits to be had but unlike the warming cultists, he is actually doing science.
[BenarNews] Four bases where U.S. troops will get access under an expanded defense pact have been identified and are "scattered around the Philippines," President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Wednesday, without revealing their names and exact locations.
While speaking to news hounds on the sidelines of festivities for the 126th anniversary of the Philippine Army’s founding, Marcos said that a formal announcement publicizing the bases’ names was expected soon.
"We’ll make a formal announcement. But yes they have been identified ... (but) before I announce it, we will formalize it with our partners in the United States so we will not preempt the plans," he said.
"There are four extra sites scattered around the Philippines. There are some in the north, there are some around Palawan and there are some further south."
Last month, the Philippine commander-in-chief agreed to give the Americans access to the four yet to be disclosed sites. Those would be on top of five known Philippine bases stipulated under Manila’s Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with Washington.
Manila’s decision in early February to agree to giving the American military greater access to local bases came amid heightened tensions with China in the contested South China Sea and fears of a potential invasion of Taiwan by Beijing, which considers the island a renegade province.
Signed in 2014, the EDCA allows the U.S. military to preposition equipment and refurbish facilities that American forces would need here. But it does not allow permanent American basing in the country. The EDCA supplemented the 1999 Visiting Forces Agreement, which provides legal cover for large-scale joint military drills in the Philippines between the two long-time allies.
On Monday, Philippine Defense Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and his American counterpart, Lloyd Austin, reaffirmed the two nations’ "unwavering alliance commitment" to a decades-old Mutual Defense Treaty, which binds them to one another in case of an attack by a foreign power.
Philippine and U.S. officials have not said whether the United States would use the bases in helping defend Taiwan if war broke out across the Taiwan Strait, and have instead said that the facilities would be used to allow American troops to respond more quickly to humanitarian crises in the region.
