Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed Lion of Islam groups including the loyalists of ISIS terrorist group are attempting to expand their foothold in this province.
This comes as the Afghan forces with the support of the US forces based in Afghanistan are busy conducting counter-terrorism operations in some remote districts of Nangarhar under the ongoing Shaheen-25 operations.
The US forces based in Afghanistan resumed their operations against the turbans last year after they were granted broader role by the B.O. regime.

[AlAhram] Four bandidosbully boyz were killed during a police raid in in the town of Kerdasa, on the outskirts of Cairo, state news agency MENA reported on Thursday.
In statements to MENA, a Giza security directorate source said that police forces killed the wanted "terrorists" while attempting to arrest them, adding that police opened fire after the bandidosbully boyz initiated a shootout.
The source added that ammunition and several shell casings were found with the four men.
It is unclear what charges the men were wanted for by the prosecution, or with which group they were affiliated.
Kerdasa has been known to be a stronghold for supporters of the now-banned Moslem Brüderbund and ousted president Mohammed Morsi.
Egypt's interior ministry said on Friday its forces killed four people it said were runawayforces of Evil plotting to carry out hostile operations.
The men were killed after opening fire on security forces who approached them in Giza, on the southwestern edge of the Egyptian capital Cairo, where they were meeting to plan an attack, the ministry said in a statement.
It identified one of them as Sameh Mohammed Farahat Abd el-Mageed, a 30-year-old leader of a takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who most be killed... group.
Ammunition, weapons and a car were found at the scene, the statement said. It did not identify the three other men.

[ENGLISH.ALMANAR.LB] Extremist militias on Friday attacked Libya’s main oil-production area in the east, prompting the forces of strongman Khalifa Haftar ... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all... who control it to retaliate with air strikes, military sources said.
The attack was spearheaded by the Benghazi Defense Brigades, a coalition of mostly krazed killer militias and gangs, and was backed by tribal fighters and former petroleum installation guards.
They "advanced towards the oil crescent and are 15 kilometers (nine miles) south of the town of Nofliya," said Colonel Moftah al-Megarief, who heads an oil facilities guard controlled by Haftar.
Nofiliya is on the edge of the North African country’s strategic oil crescent, home to the main export terminals of al-Sidra, Brega, Ras Lanuf and Zuwaytina which Haftar’s forces seized in September last year.
"We are trying to repel them and the air force has carried out several sorties," Megarief said, declining to elaborate.
However, it was a brave man who first ate an oyster... an officer on Haftar’s staff told AFP that MiG-23 warplanes and Mi-35 attack helicopters bombarded a convoy of Benghazi Defense Brigades vehicles south of Nofliya.
"Several vehicles were destroyed," said the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

[AnNahar] Niger on Friday declared a state of emergency in several western areas flanking Mali after a spate of deadly attacks blamed on jihadists from its restive neighbour.
A government statement read on state television ... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said a state of emergency would be enforced in seven departments of the regions of Tillaberi and Tahoua.
Security forces would now be granted additional powers including the right to search homes at any time, it said.
The statement said repeated attacks in these areas "have endangered the security of the peaceful population and public order."
The zones affected are "Ouallam, Ayorou, Bankilare, Abala and Banibangou in Tillaberi and Tassara and Tilia in Tahoua".
Tillaberi and Tahoua have witnessed several deadly attacks on army posts and refugee camps, blamed by authorities on Malian jibadists linked to the Movement for Oneness and Jihad in West Africa (MUJAO) group.
...one of Al Qaeda in North Africa's Mali affiliates, known for drugs and arms trafficking, kidnapping, and the occasional newsworthy attack in southern Algeria and northern Mali, a.k.a. the Azawad. Established in 2011, one faction of MUJAO became known as Al Mourabitoun and related names after merging with Mokhtar Belmokhtar's Masked Battalion in 2013, while the rump organization retains the MUJAO designation. The Black African-led (Hausa) group participated in the Tuareg rebellion along with other jihadi groups, and peaked with the conquest of the Malian city of Konna before being driven into the mountains by a combined French and Mali force in 2013.
These include a late February attack in Ouallam which killed 16 soldiers and maimed 18. And in October, 22 soldiers died in Tahoua during a daring assault on a refugee camp.

[CNN] Several US officials told CNN Thursday that the US is now taking action to locate and monitor hundreds of people or "contacts" found as part the intelligence retrieved during the deadly raid last month in Yemen ...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic... targeting al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula ...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000... .Some of these people are believed to be in the West, but not in the United States.
Oh? Very interesting, indeed,
The government is taking action to find and monitor these AQAP-linked individuals because of the threat they may pose to Europe, the officials added.
Is it yet illegal under the laws of various European nations to belong to Al Qaeda, which thus far completely lacks political wings?
The fact that officials said they are actively pursuing leads uncovered from the raid indicates that the intelligence was indeed actionable despite some media reports to the contrary.
The terabyte's worth of intelligence
...that is a lot of information to sort through...
gathered from computers and cell phones is now being reviewed at the National Media Exploitation Center outside Washington, which analyzes documents, electronic media, cell phones, video and audio tapes seized on overseas missions.
Defense officials have told CNN that information pertaining to the location of safe havens, explosives manufacturing, training and targets was acquired in the January ground operation.
But the raid has faced questions from politicians about its utility and execution, with several Trump critics questioning the value of the intelligence, whether the right calculation about the raid's risks was made and whether the result was worth the costs. The father of Chief Petty Officer William "Ryan" Owens, who was killed in the firefight, has called for an investigation.
A number of civilians were also killed in the battle, something the Pentagon has acknowledged and is investigating.
Gen. Joseph Votel, who oversees US troops in the region, called the mission "successful" from the military's point of view.
"The object was to go in and collect intelligence. We accomplished that, so from that perspective it was successful. I certainly understand how the family would look at this in a different light," Votel told CBS News.
President Donald Trump ...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States... defended the January raid in his Tuesday address to Congress. As Trump spoke, Owens' widow, Carryn, looked up at the ceiling, seemingly to her late husband, as she sat crying.
"Ryan was a part of a highly successful raid that generated large amounts of vital intelligence that will lead to many more victories in the future against our enemies,' " Trump said.

The SUCCESS of the mission should be the overriding perspective. How anyone else 'looks at it' is a detractor and irrelevant.

On December 30, 2009, Humam Khalil Abu-Mulal al-Balawi was picked up by Arghawan, an Afghan who was the chief of external security at Camp Chapman, at the border between Miranshah, Pakistan, and Khost, Afghanistan. Arghawan drove al-Balawi to Camp Chapman, arriving around 4:30 pm.
The car was waved through three security checkpoints without stopping before arriving at its destination well within the base. Sixteen people were waiting for the car near a building set up to debrief al-Balawi. Al-Balawi got out of the vehicle and detonated the explosives hidden in his suicide vest. Link

[Dhaka Tribune] A Dhaka court has granted a seven-day remand against New JMB’s alleged "spiritual leader" Maulana Abul Kashem in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order on Friday afternoon when investigation officer CTTC Inspector Jahangir Alam produced him before the court with a 10-day remand plea.
Earlier he was shown tossed in the slammer Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! in a case at Dhaka’s Mirpur model cop shoppe.
"Maulana Kashem also headed a faction of the original Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh bad boy group," Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
The New JMB group is affiliated with the international terrorist group Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Maulana Kashem had been working at the Okharabari Madrasa of Dinajpur. CTTC unit officials in October last year said that Maulana Kashem had been under their surveillance.
Most of its leaders including its military and operations chief Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury have been killed in shootouts with the police or arrested after they killed over two dozen people at a Dhaka restaurant on July 1 last year.
The detectives are now looking for eight to ten second-tier leaders of the New JMB, who were involved in at least three dozen attacks since September 2015.
The once-mighty JMB, which was formed in 1998 and banned in 2005, has now split into several small groups due to the detention of its second ameer Maulana Saidur Rahman in 2010 and the execution of five top leaders, including its founder Shayakh Abdur Rahman, in 2007.
Maulana Kashem declared him chief of the unit after the arrest of Maulana Saidur.
Former Majlish-e-Sura member of the JMB and a death-row convict, Salahuddin alias Salehin now heads the old JMB faction. He has remained absconding since February 2014 when JMB members snatched him from a prison van.
Bangladesh-origin Canadian citizen Tamim Chowdhury came to Bangladesh on October 5, 2013 from Syria and tried to form an umbrella group of bad boy outfits.
Tamim later met Maulana Kashem in July 2015 when he helped Tamim to reunite old JMB members.
After the death of Tamim, the operations wing came under the lead of Faridul Islam Akash and later Nurul Islam Marjan, both killed in raids by the police’s CTTC unit.
Another leader of the outfit Musa alias Mainuddin alias Mosiuddin is now leading its operations.
A dozen other top and second-tier leaders of the New JMB group are still absconding. They include Basharuzzaman alias Abul Bashar alias Chocolate, Sohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz, Ripon, Khalid, Junayed Hasan Khan, Iqbal, Manik, Mamun, Azadul Kabiraz and Badal.

[SCMP] Bangladesh police said on Friday they had locked away Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages! the "spiritual leader" of a banned Islamist outfit alleged to have carried out a series of deadly attacks in the country.
Police detained Maolana Abul Kashem, 60, from a hideout in the capital on Thursday night after an investigation linked him to the Jamayetul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) group.
Mohibul Islam Khan, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka police counter-terrorism unit, said Kashem had inspired the attack on a Dhaka cafe last July in which 22 people including 18 foreign hostages were killed.
"He was the spiritual leader of the JMB," Khan said. "In our primary investigation we have found all [the Death Eaters] were inspired by him."
Khan said Kashem had met the alleged criminal mastermind of the cafe attack Tamim Chowdhury "several times". Bangladesh has suffered a spate of attacks on secular activists, foreigners and religious minorities in recent years.

An Austrian court found eight Iraqi nationals guilty on Thursday of gang-raping a German tourist on New Year's Eve more than a year ago and sentenced them to prison terms of between nine and 13 years.
Charges against a ninth suspect were dismissed, said a court statement. The victim — a 28-year-old woman — was awarded 25,000 euros (over $26,000) in damages.
Both sides were appealing the decision, the statement said.
All nine Iraqi men, who ranged in age from 22 to 48, came to Austria as migrants between May and December 2015. Five subsequently were given refugee status.
The prosecution argued that the eight men convicted exploited the fact that the victim had been drinking heavily on Dec. 31, 2015 and was unable to defend herself.
Rape is punishable by a maximum 15-year prison term in Austria. Explaining the verdict and sentencing, Judge Petra Poschalko said that only two of the defendants had helped the court establish the facts and only one had confessed.
The court heard testimony that four of the men took the woman to a Vienna apartment where they were joined by the others and that all took turns raping her. When the alcohol started wearing off, she found herself naked in a bed.
Defense lawyer Andreas Reichenbach observed that the gang rape was committed at around the same time as the high-profile sexual assaults in Cologne by groups of migrants. Reichenbach suggested the sentences imposed Thursday served in part as an "additional message" for asylum-seekers.
"As we all know, asylum-seekers don't have the best image here in Austria," he said. "I think that this surely played a certain role, to make it clear to these people that when they come to Austria that such behavior won't be tolerated," he said.
All but one of the defendants denied raping the woman. Some acknowledged having sex with her, but argued it had been consensual. Prosecutor Karina Fehringer said that was impossible, describing the victim as being defenseless in an "unconscious, shock-rigid" state.
Migrants and refugees from other countries expressed concern that the crime will make Austrians hostile toward all newcomers.
Especially hostile towards rapists...
"When such people come here and screw up like that, then everybody will think that Chechens, Afghans, all refugees from war areas are all the same," Mansur Salamou, an asylum-seeker from Chechnya, said. "But it's not like that. For example, the majority of us — we also cause problems, commit crimes. But no rape! Only criminal assaults and robberies."

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Seven people, among them five children, have been hospitalized over the past two days near Iraq’s djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... with injuries from chemical weapons, the Red Thingy said on Friday.
ISIS, which holds the majority of west Mosul, has periodically used rudimentary chemical weapons in the course of its more than two-year war with Iraqi forces.
"During the past two days, the hospital has admitted five children and two women showing clinical symptoms consistent with an exposure to a blistering chemical agent," Robert Mardini, the Red Thingy Middle East director, said in a statement, referring to a facility near Mosul.
"The use of chemical weapons is absolutely prohibited under international humanitarian law. We are deeply alarmed by what our colleagues have seen, and we strongly condemn any use of chemical weapons, by any party, anywhere," Mardini said.
The statement did not specify whether the seven were maimed in one or more attacks, how the chemical weapons were delivered, or who was responsible.
Several Iraqi military officers said they did not have information about recent chemical weapons attacks in the Mosul area.
ISIS overran large areas north and west of Baghdad in 2014, but Iraqi forces backed by US-led air strikes and other support have since regained much of the ground they lost to the bully boys.
ISIS has periodically used chemical weapons in the course of the conflict, but while this has garnered widespread attention, the bully boys’ bullets and bombs are far deadlier weapons.

The Islamics/Islamicists seem to have an affinity for using chemical weapons. The West seems to have a desire for denying this.
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Thousands of civilians fled djinn-infested Mosul ... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn... overnight as Iraqi forces advanced north of a sprawling military base near the city’s airport on Friday.
Iraq’s special forces pushed into the Wadi Hajar district in western Mosul and retook the area from the ISIS Friday, according to Brig. Gen. Yahya Rasool, front man of the Joint Military Operations.
Special forces Brig. Gen. Haider al-Obeidi said clearing operations were ongoing in the area and his forces were close to linking up with the militarized federal police forces who were pushing up along the western bank of the Tigris river.
Iraqi forces, including special operations forces and federal police units, launched an attack on the western part of Mosul nearly two weeks ago to dislodge ISIS. Since the offensive began, more than 28,000 people have been displaced by the fighting, according to the United Nations ...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks... Nahla Ahmed, 50 fled Mosul late Thursday night, walking more than five kilometers (three miles) from her home in the Shuhada neighborhood.
"All the families were hiding behind a wall," she said, explaining how they escaped an ISIS-held part of the city. "We gave the children valium so they wouldn’t cry and (the ISIS fighters) wouldn’t catch us."
Ahmed, like most of the civilians who have escaped Mosul in the past week, fled through Mamun neighborhood. The district is partially controlled by Iraq’s special forces.
Maj. Saif Ali, who is stationed in Mamun, said huge crowds of civilians began pouring into the area from neighboring districts just after midnight. Ali said civilians in western Mosul are becoming increasingly desperate as food and water supplies begin to run out.
"In total 7,000 people fled through this area last night," he said. "We were up all night trying to control the crowds."
UN front man Stephane Dujarric said Friday "the latest figures we have of people recorded leaving western Mosul is 28,400 and that’s since operations in west Mosul started on Feb. 19. However we’re also tracking down reports thousands more people are on the move."
He said that on average about 4,000 people a day have been fleeing since the beginning of the operation.
"We think about 750,000 civilians are still trapped inside western Mosul, either sheltering from the fighting or waiting to flee," Dujarric said. "We’re deeply concerned with their well-being and safety and their access to vital resources."

[The Nation] An 8-year-old boy and his parents were among eight people killed in separate attacks in southern Thailand that left four wounded Thursday, just two days after government and insurgent negotiators agreed to set up a limited ceasefire.
Police blamed the attacks in Narathiwat and Pattani provinces on groups seeking to instigate violence following Tuesday's news out of Kuala Lumpur that a panel representing some southern Thai rebel groups had struck a breakthrough with negotiators from Thailand's military government. Both sides announced they would work together to establish a safety zone in one of the five southernmost districts as a test case to see if they could implement a wider ceasefire.
The attacks began Thursday morning as Somchai Thongchan, the deputy chief of Ban Sri Pinyo village in Narathiwat, his wife, sister-in-law, and 8-year-old son were attacked and killed. A daughter, 12, and a niece, 6, were wounded.
Police Captain Wanchai said, "The incident took place while Somchai and five others were driving to send the children to school. On a remote hill, unknown assailants fired weapons at them, resulting in death and injury. We believe it was the work of insurgents who wanted to instigate violence."
Hours later, Kasem Toyo, a security guard in nearby Yala province, was gunned down before dusk as he was traveling home in the Mayo district of Pattani.
The violent day ended when three rangers were killed and a postman and civilian were wounded while shopping in the Ban Tabae market place in Pattani’s Mayo district.
Police Captain Muhammad Madwang said, "As per witness accounts, seven to eight assailants shot those killed and injured while they were walking in the market."
A spokesman for the military's regional command promised justice. saying, "The act of these assailants indicates that they are cowardly, wild, lacking in ideology. They should not cite ideology for the Malay people. We will go after them and bring them to justice as soon as possible."
Thursday’s killings occurred a day after police found the bodies of Kajpon Puvavimol and wife Titapha in Thepa district, Songkhla province. They were beaten, tied up with duct tape and thrown into the Thepa River as assailants hijacked their pickup truck and made off with it. Police found the truck which had been loaded with bombs that failed to detonate, officials said.
Thai junta leader and Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha denounced the killings. He said, "We need to prevent such bullet-spraying attacks. At the moment, we are not done with peace talks. We still need solutions to the problem."
Prayuth stressed the need for safety zones and called them a test to determine if MARA Patani, the panel representing insurgent groups and factions, could contain violence in the far South. He said, "If they do have potential, talks will go on. If not, they must find a way to non-violence."
MARA Patani spokesman Abu Hafiz al-Hakim reiterated the panel's commitment to resolving the conflict through dialogue and the establishment of safety zones following Tuesday's agreement. On social media he said, "We are saddened by today morning’s incidence in Ruso district, Narathiwat, where four people were killed and two injured. We do not condone violence involving civilians and children and strongly condemn the attack. We express our condolences to the victims and their families. We urge the authorities to thoroughly investigate the incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice."

Relying on speed, stealth, and surprise, it is the archetypal guerrilla army, able to deploy quickly to front lines and concentrate its forces before quickly redirecting the axis of its attack to outflank and ambush its enemy. The key to its success is autonomy. Although operating under an overarching tactical rubric, YPG brigades are inculcated with a high degree of freedom and can adapt to the changing battlefield. [ARA] Heavy festivities broke out between Kurdish forces on Friday morning after 500 Syrian Kurdish Rojava Peshmergas entered the Yezidi town of Khanasor, which is dominated by the PKK-affiliated Sinjar Resistance Units (YBS).
Local Yezidis told ARA News that both groups should fight ISIS, and not each other.
"Both sides could drive fifty minutes to be at the frontlines with ISIS, and then defeat ISIS and return to solve their problems," a 28-year-old Yezidi citizen in Khanasor told ARA News, speaking under the pseudonym Khalaf Khanasori.
