[An Nahar] An albino toddler has been kidnapped in northern Tanzania, police said late Monday, raising fears he may be killed and his body parts used for witchcraft.
Unknown attackers broke into the house and slashed the child's mother with machetes before snatching the one-and-half-year-old boy in the northern Tanzanian district of Chato late on Saturday.
"Two bandidos armed with machetes stormed into their kitchen, they hit his mother with machetes and took away the baby," said regional police chief Joseph Kony ... Albino body parts are sought after in Tanzania for witchcraft. At least 74 albinos have been murdered in the east African country since 2000, according to the United Nations ...an organization which on balance has done more bad than good, with the good not done well and the bad done thoroughly... .
In August, a U.N. rights expert blamed a rise in attacks against albinos on looming presidential elections, due in October 2015, leading political campaigners to turn to influential sorcerers for help.
[Hurriyet Daily News] A mentally ill Turkish man has been detained for allegedly murdering his wife and dumping her dismembered body at a garbage dump in Istanbul -- the latest grisly killing of a woman in Turkey.
The murder came amid public anger over the murder and attempted rape of 20-year-old female student Ăzgecan Aslan by a bus driver last week.
The man, 43-year-old Tahir Kart, reported his wife missing on Feb. 18 but later confessed to having stabbed her "in a fit of rage", Dogan News Agency has reported.
Kart, who was diagnosed with schizophrenia 11 years ago, reportedly told police that he had chopped his wife's body into pieces and later dumped it.

[Al Ahram] Egypt's Court of Cassation has upheld the death sentence on four defendants to death, five others to life in prison, and a minor to 15 years in prison after they were convicted of raping a woman in Egypt's Nile Delta governorate of Kafr El-Sheikh in 2006.
The attack on the victim took place when a group of men kidnapped her in the Nile Delta city before alternately raping her.
A criminal court issued a preliminary death sentence for the four defendants in November 2014.
Upon hearing the verdict, the families of the convicted broke down.

[The Times Live] The latest South African Survey by the SA Institute of Race Relations shows that the military plans to employ more whites and fewer blacks.
The defence force admits there is a shortage of white personnel but says its recruitment drives are not based on racial quotas.
The survey shows the department's employment equity targets are changing:
The black employment target from the current 72% to 65%;
Coloured employment from 13% to 10%;
Indian employment will remain at 1%;
The target for whites will increase from 14% to 24%.

[VOA News] Critics of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro are decrying the unexpected arrest Thursday of Caracas Mayor Antonio Ledezma and calling for a protest demonstration.

Ledezma is expected to be brought before a judge Friday, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported, a day after he was seized. Heavily armed security forces, outfitted in masks and camouflaged uniforms, broke down the doors of his office in the banking district and firing warning shots into the air.
"I just saw how they took Ledezma out of his office as if he were a dog," opposition politician Ismael Garcia tweeted, Rooters news agency reported. "They broke down the doors without an arrest warrant."
Maduro has accused the 59-year-old mayor of being behind a coup, which he says also involved military aviation officers.
"On the orders of state prosecutors, [Ledezma] was captured and will be processed by the Venezuelan justice system for crimes committed against the peace of the country," Maduro said.

(Reuters) - China's Lenovo Group Ltd, the world's largest PC maker, said on Thursday it will no longer pre-install software that cybersecurity experts said was malicious and made devices vulnerable to hacking.
Lenovo had come under fire from security researchers who said earlier on Thursday the company pre-installed a virus-like software from a company called Superfish on consumer laptops that hijacked web connections and allowed them to be spied upon.
"We have thoroughly investigated this technology and do not find any evidence to substantiate security concerns," a Lenovo spokesman said.
Robert Graham, CEO of U.S.-based security research firm Errata Security, said Superfish was malicious software that hijacks and throws open encrypted connections, paving the way for hackers to also commandeer these connections and eavesdrop, in what is known as a man-in-the-middle attack.
"This hurts (Lenovo's) reputation," Graham told Reuters. "It demonstrates the deep flaw that the company neither knows nor cares what it bundles on their laptops."
Lenovo commanded one-fifth of the global PC market in the third quarter of 2014, according to data research firm IDC.

Microsoft has since identified Superfish as a Trojan with a severe security risk and has issued an "Definition Update" to the current OS's Windows Defender security software, KB915597, version 1.193.395.0. Re-running Windows Update should install this. Some browsers may then develop problems with the original bad certificate, and will need to be patched by their sponsers (e.g. Firefox).
