[Garowe] The onslaught against al-Shabaab ...... an Islamic infestation centering on Somalia attempting to metastasize into Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and similar places, all of which have enough problems without them... Lions of Islam continued in different parts of the country with the Somali National Army [SNA] making major gains in the Hiiraan region, where the group has been dominant for several years, causing massive setbacks on all fronts according to experts.
State media reported that the al-Shabaab Lions of Islam were killed by members of the army near Afcad in Hiiraan, where fighting has been going on for several weeks. At least 50 Lions of Islam were killed in the latest operation, the state media noted.
The international partners participated in the raid in what has been a routine for the past several months, where they have been providing essential aerial surveillance. The US Africa Command, the African Union ...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful... Transition Mission in Somalia [ATMIS], and local militia have been critical in the process.
"Somali National Armed Forces killed over 50 al-Shabaab gunnies including five ring leaders in a planned operation near Afcad location in Hiiraan region with support of Somalia’s international security partners, on Friday, an statement by the government says," state media noted.
This comes a few days after the government claimed to have killed over 200 Lions of Islam this week in HirShabelle state. President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had earlier indicated that HirShabelle and Galmadug would be liberated from the al-Shabaab by the end of this month.
Mursal Khalif, a member of the Federal Parliament who also serves in the Defense Committee, opines that the government of Somalia needs much help from the international community particularly in sustaining the ongoing military offense besides keeping liberated towns intact.
“Give us mo’ money!”
"What’s truly needed is a sense of urgency by Somalia’s international partners on two fronts, increasing the speed and scope of support to liberated territories, and scaling up military offensive to ensure a nationally coordinated effort to defeat al-Shabaab," said the seasoned politician.
“Give us lots mo’ money!”
"United Nations ...a formerly good idea gone bad... , African Union, European Union ...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing... and the United States have spent billions of dollars in the last three decades to respond to humanitarian needs and nation-building efforts in Somalia," added Mursal, who lauded the ongoing offensive against the hard boys.

[Rudaw] Eighteen migrants colonists reportedly all from Afghanistan were found dead in a truck near the Bulgarian capital Sofia on Friday.
Police found the truck that was carrying about 40 "illegal migrants colonists" on Friday afternoon, the Bulgarian Interior Ministry said in a statement. Some of the survivors have been taken to hospital for medical treatment and a search is underway for the drivers who had fled.
The survivors, who had been concealed under timber in the back of the truck, are in poor condition. "They have suffered from lack of oxygen, their clothes are wet, they are freezing, and obviously haven't eaten for days,'' said Health Minister Asen Medzhidiev, DW reported.
One of the dead is a child aged about six or seven, according to the Bulgarian health ministry.
Four Bulgarians have been detained in connection with the incident, Rooters reported.
Bulgaria lies on the migrant trail from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... to Europa ...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum... and the Bulgarian government is actively working to curb the flow of people crossing its borders, including targeting truck drivers with information campaigns in partnership with the United Kingdom. "The number of illegal migrations apprehended in Bulgaria is increasing year on year. Last year around 11,000 illegal migrants colonists were apprehended, three times more than in 2020," the Interior Ministry states on its website.
Last month, Bulgarian police charged 92 people after a sweeping investigation in coordination with Ottoman Turkish and Serbian authorities into migrant smuggling networks.
The majority of migrants colonists using this Balkan route to Europe come from Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey, and Syria. In 2015, 71 migrants colonists were found dead in the back of a truck on a motorway in Austria.
Many of the migrants colonists using this route are hoping to reach countries in western Europe like Germany and the UK. In 2021, more than 30 people, mostly Kurds, drowned when their boat sank during the crossing from La Belle France to Britannia. Two survivors said the British coastguard ignored their calls for help.

Just half an hour after sunset in the port city, officials said, three gunnies parked an Indus Corolla car at the KPO entrance before hurling a hand grenade at the gate. Wearing shalwar kameez, the gunnies brought with them "three bags of food", indicating their preparation for a prolonged siege, DIG East-Zone Muquddas Haider, who was among the senior officers leading the operation, told Dawn on late Friday night.
While officials initially said exact number of gunnies could not be ascertained who attacked the metropolis police chief office at around 7:10pm, Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister Barrister Murtaza Wahab after midnight shared details of 23 casualties — four martyred and 19 injured — on Twitter.
He earlier had tweeted, "The latest information is that 4 people were martyred (2 coppers, 1 rangers & 1 civilian) while 14 people are injured, who are being treated. Out of the injured 1 person is critical while the condition of 13 injured persons is stable."
Multiple explosions were heard during the joint operation, which was completed at 10:48pm, by Pakistain Rangers, army and police personnel.
DIG Haider said there were three attackers, all clad in shalwar kameez. One of them went kaboom! on the fourth floor of the building during the operation, while two others were rubbed out on the rooftop, he said.
Footage shared on social media, though unverified, showed flames and smoke emitting from the top floor of the highrise, with the sound of a kaboom and a man uttering ’God is great’ while cautioning people to stay away and that another blast might occur.
Both tracks of the busy Sharea Faisal, which links the city centre with airport, remained shut for traffic for hours during the clearance operation.
According to Rangers’ spokesperson, an officer of brigadier rank led the anti-terrorist operation during which all five floors of the building were cleared at night.
In a statement, police spokesperson said this was a major operation, which was completed by DIGs of RRF, South and East, respectively, as well as Rangers and army personnel.
During the operation, according to the police, one terrorist blew up an explosive jacket while the police firing left his two accomplices others dead.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also reached the Command and Control Centre at IGP office after receiving information about the attack and monitored the operation.
He directed the DIGs concerned and the Rangers officers to send personnel from their respective zones to the site.
Police surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed said that three bodies of law enforcers and a civilian were brought at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. She said the martyred officials were identified as police constable Ghulam Abbas and Rangers sub-inspector Taimur, while the identity of another police official could not be ascertained immediately.
A civilian, Ajmal Masih, was also among the dear departed, the police surgeon added.
The Rangers spokesperson later said the martyred SI Taimur originally hailed from Multan ...Home of the Multan Sultans... , adding that their six personnel were also injured during the operation.
According Dr Syed, some of the injured were identified as Edhi worker Sajid, Rangers personnel Abdul Raheem, Imran, Tahir, Umair, Abdul Latif and Aftab, and coppers Latif, Abdul Khaliq, Rizwan, Haji Abdul Razzaq and Sarab.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, meanwhile, told Geo News that the federal government was in touch with the Sindh police.
He said he had spoken to the chief secretary and IGP who confirmed that six to seven hard boyz entered the building by hurling a hand grenade after parking the vehicle. Since a general security threat existed following the Peshawar mosque attack, all the institutions were fully alert across the country, he said.
[IsraelTimes] Iranian prosecutors accuse woman of ’disrespecting’ head covering at public meeting in Tehran, amid ongoing unrest
Iran’s judiciary is prosecuting a woman for "disrespecting" the Islamic headscarf after she threw hers to the ground during a public meeting, an Iranian news agency reported Saturday.
The requirement for women to wear the headscarf in public, enshrined in law since shortly after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, has triggered nationwide protests since the death in jug of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September following her arrest for an alleged breach of the dress code.
"Legal proceedings have been launched against a woman who disrespected her headscarf during the election for the Tehran branch of the Iran ...The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan. The abbreviation IRGC is the same idea as Stürmabteilung (or SA). The term Supreme Guide is a the modern version form of either Duce or Führer or maybe both... Construction Engineering Organization," the Tasnim news agency said.
A short video published by Tehran municipality newspaper Hamshahri showed a woman throwing her headscarf to the ground as participants left the meeting.
"It was falsely claimed that this individual was disqualified [from the branch election] for not wearing the headscarf," Tasnim added, without elaborating.
Since the Amini protests erupted last year, more and more women have been venturing out without covering their hair, particularly in Iran’s big cities.
On January 10, the judiciary said it wanted to resume enforcing legislation stipulating severe penalties for violations of the dress code, including exile.
In recent weeks, several cafes, restaurants and pharmacies have been shut down for serving customers not wearing the headscarf.

[REGNUM] Syria repulsed missile attack near Damascus
Explosions are heard in the Syrian capital Damascus. The State Broadcasting Agency reported Israeli aggression.
According to media reports, a missile attack was repelled near Damascus. RIA Novosti reported explosions in the capital and partial destruction of a residential building in the south of the city due to shelling.
"Air defense systems counteract Israeli air aggression over Damascus," the Syrian broadcasting agency noted.
As REGNUM reported earlier, a drone was shot down in Syria earlier, which, according to the US Department of Defense, conducted reconnaissance in the area of an American military base. The aircraft was, presumably, of Iranian production.
[IsraelTimes] Syria’s official news agency SANA says there are a number of people dead and maimed as a result of an alleged Israeli Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... on the Kafar Sousah neighborhood in Damascus.
Citing a police source, SANA says the casualties are "a result of the Israeli aggression on residential neighborhoods in Damascus."
Footage from the scene shows heavy damage to the area.
[IsraelTimes] Heavy damage inflicted to buildings in Kafar Sousah neighborhood; state-run news agency says victims mostly civilians
The Israeli Air Force carried out a strike late Saturday night targeting a residential neighborhood in Damascus, killing five people and leaving 15 others hurt, Syria’s state news agency SANA reported.
There was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces, in line with its policy of not generally commenting on air raids in the country.
SANA, citing a military source, said four civilians and one soldier were killed, and another 15 civilians were maimed in the strike on the Kafar Sousah neighborhood in the Syrian capital. It said several of those maimed were listed at death's door.
Some unconfirmed Syrian media reports put the corpse count higher.
The Arclight airstrike ...KABOOM!... also inflicted heavy damage to a number of residential buildings in Kafar Sousah, SANA said.
Images and video from the Damascus neighborhood showed heavy damage to several buildings.
SANA claimed Syrian air defenses managed to intercept "most" of the missiles launched by IAF jets from over the Golan Heights in the strike. Syria regularly claims to intercept Israeli missiles, though military analysts doubt such assertions.
Footage from northern Israel appeared to show a Syrian air defense missile exploding over the Golan Heights.
Orient News, a Syrian opposition media outlet claimed the strikes targeted Iranian militia officials at the so-called Iranian school in Kafar Sousah.
Separately, the Israeli jets targeted Iranian and Syrian regime military sites near the Damascus International Airport, as well as in Sitt Zaynab and al-Kiswah, a town and a city just south of the capital, Orient News said.
The outlet also claimed the damage to the residential buildings in Kafar Sousah was caused by a misfired Syrian anti-aircraft missile.
As a rule, Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country over the last decade.
Last week, the Saudi-owned Elaph news site cited an Israeli military official as saying if Iran ...Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979... ships weapons to its regional proxies under the guise of humanitarian aid to Syria following the major earthquake there, the IDF would not hesitate to strike.
The unnamed official said "there is information indicating that Iran will take advantage of the tragic situation in Syria" and ship weapons to Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups in Syria.
Several Iranian cargo planes carrying aid have landed in Syria since a major earthquake struck the country and areas in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the occupiers of Greek Asia Minor... on February 6.
In recent years, several airstrikes against alleged Iranian weapon shipments disguised as seemingly harmless products have been attributed to Israel, including one incident last month.
Generally, relatively large weapons are thought to be smuggled via Syria on Iranian cargo airlines, which frequently land at Damascus International and the Tiyas, or T-4, airbase, outside of the central Syrian city of Palmyra.
The weaponry is then believed to be stored in warehouses in the area before being transported to Lebanon Hezbollahstan ...The Lebs have the curious habit of periodically murdering their heads of state or prime ministers, a practice dating back to the heady days of human sacrifice to Baal Moloch...
An Israeli rocket strike early on Sunday hit a building in central Damascus's Kafr Sousa neighbourhood near a large, heavily guarded security complex close to Iranian installations, killing five people, witnesses and officials said.
The rare, targeted strike damaged several buildings in the densely populated district close to Omayyad square in the heart of the capital, where multi-storey security buildings are located within residential areas.
