At least 23 anti-government armed militants were killed during clearing operations by the Afghan armed forces during the past 24 hours.
The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the operations were jointly conducted by the Afghan National Army (ANA) forces in conjunction with the security personnel belonging to the other security institutions.
A statement by MoD said at least 14 militants were also wounded during the operations and 6 suspected militants were detained by the security forces.
The statement further added that the Afghan security forces confiscated various weapons and explosives during the operations conducted in Baraki Barak district of Logar, parts of Kunduz, Zabul, Paktika, and Helmand provinces.
According to MoD, a member of the Afghan National Army (ANA) also lost his during the operations.
The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.
The operations are being conducted as the Taliban-led insurgency have been rampant during the recent months as efforts have been put in place to encourage the militants to join the reconciliation process.
Nine policemen have embraced martyrdom in an insider attack in southern Afghanistan.
Dost Mohammad Nayab, spokeperson for the governor of Urozgan province says security agencies are looking for the policemen who went missing from the check post after the attack on Sunday evening.
He added that the four policemen missing have probably carried out the attack.
According to Nayab, ammunition and weapons are also missing from the check post and the suspects are believed to have taken them away.
This comes days after four policemen were martyred by their comrades inside a police check post in Urozgan’s neighboring Kandahar province which is also located in the southern part of the country.
This part of the country has been the scene of most of the insider attacks.
In the middle of 2014, policemen from inside a security post in Gezab District of Urozgan province had established links with Taliban which led to attack on the same post leaving 10 policemen martyred.
who managed last November to slip police net after the terror Paris attacks that claimed 130 lives, was captured lately in Morocco.
According to Moroccan authorities, the suspect was arrested in the Atlantic coast port city of Mohammadia, near Casablanca. Investigators said the man had sojourned in Syria where he fought with Al-Nusra front militants before joining ISIS.
While in Syria, the suspect received military training and made ties with ISIS field commanders, including the mastermind of the Paris attacks, and other terrorists who threatened attacks in France and Belgium. During his training camp, he learnt to handle different weapons and guerrilla tactics before leaving Syria for Turkey. He then travelled to Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands before he arrived in Morocco.
So he got his ticket punched with all the right qualifications and tours of duty...
According to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigation (Morocco’s FBI), the suspect had travelled to Syria along with one of the suicide bombers who blow up himself near Paris national stadium during the November 13 terror attacks in Paris. He built strong ties with Abaaoud, 28, during his stay in war-torn Syria. Abaaoud, the Belgian architect of the Paris massacre, was killed with other terror suspects when police raided a house in the Saint Denis Paris suburb.

Twenty Egyptians abducted earlier this month near Jufra have been returned to Egypt after they were freed during an army operation.
Their repatriation in a Libyan oil services plane was a high profile affair, not least because Egyptian president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi was on the tarmac at Cairo airport today to greet them.
The hand-over was no less promoted in Libya with the men being interviewed on board the aircraft. They said that they were grateful that they had been freed from near Zillah by a Libyan army unit. However, they gave few details of the operation or their abduction. A Libyan officer claimed that the men had been seized by a gang which had close ties to IS.
Welcoming his countrymen home, Sisi said that he was grateful to Libya and to Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief General Khalifa Hafter for securing the men’s safe release.
It is thought that the Egyptians were discovered as army units moved towards Jufra seeking to secure the area in advance of an expected terrorist push into the oilfields.

Arab Coalition warplanes intensified strikes targeting a secret meeting of Houthi leaders, killing several of them, reported Al Bayan.
Military sources said Houthi militia and forces loyal to ousted President Saleh are terrified by the presence of military units of national army and Arab Coalition on mountains near Sana'a. Therefore, the rebels have spread hundreds of their troops near the capital.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), they discussed developments in Yemen and progress of the political progress as systematic hurdles created by the rebels continue to block international efforts and make it difficult to set the next date for the meeting.
The parties stressed the importance of continuing political efforts based on Resolution No. 2216, the Gulf Co-operation Council initiative and the outcome of the National Dialogue.
They discussed humanitarian developments and stressed that the situation should be addressed with resolve especially because the rebels continue to procrastinate over the issue.

[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey ...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire.... bombed targets just across its border in Syria on Monday in direct response to rocket fire earlier the same day that hit a school in Turkey's Kilis province, killing a woman and injuring a student.
According to Hurriyet Daily News the Turkish military determined that the fire had come from border areas in Syria in the northwestern Azaz region, controlled by the Islamic State ...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems.... (ISIS) terrorist group.
After three Katyusha rockets hit the school, the Turkish military responded by bombarding ISIS positions across the border with artillery.
That came just days after Turkey claimed it killed 200 members of ISIS, following its bombardment of positions in both Iraq and Syria, in response to a suicide kaboom in Istanbul a week ago in which 10 Germans died.

Tensions is perhaps the wrong word at this particular moment, but the consequences of fostering pet jihadi groups flow naturally when the preferred outlet is blocked.

Would you be satisfied with a pistol, Sven? From AFP:
Earlier in the day, Pakistanis were hailing Syed Hamid Husain, a chemistry lecturer who tried to protect his students by opening fire on the militants before being shot himself, as a "martyr" and "gentleman".
Witnesses said the professor had been known as "The Protector" even before he died shielding his students.
Geology student Zahoor Ahmed said the tutor had warned him not to leave the building after the first shots were fired.
"He was holding a pistol in his hand," he said.
"Then I saw a bullet hit him. I saw two militants were firing. I ran inside and then managed to flee by jumping over the back wall."
"He would always help the students and he was the one who knew all their secrets... He was referred to by students as 'The Protector'," geology student Waqar Ali told AFP.
RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force seized 4.3 tons of narcotics, arrested 14 suspected smugglers and impounded five vehicles in different parts of the country.
The seizure included seven kilograms of heroin intercepted by the Airport Security Force at the Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) while it was being smuggled to Saudi Arabia.
The suspect carrying heroin was identified as Mubashir Hussain, a resident of Khushab, who was to board a Jeddah-bound Oman Air flight at the BBIA. According to an ANF press release on Monday, Mubashir was taken into custody.
Bilal Ahmed, a resident of Charsadda, was detained after he reportedly confessed to having swallowed heroin-filled capsules. He intended to proceed for Abu Dhabi by a PIA flight.
During the eight operations carried out by the ANF in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Okara, Hyderabad and Qilla Abdullah, 3.075 tons of opium, 1.25 tons of Charas and 8 kilograms of heroin were seized.
The seized drug is estimated to be valued at Rs7.06 billion in the international market. Most of the seized drug was intended to be smuggled abroad.
During an intelligence-based action conducted near Bahria Town in Rawalpindi, four vehicles were intercepted and 1,250kg of Charas was recovered them. Initial reports said the drug was being sent to Karachi.
Eight suspects were held.
Muhammad Zahoor, a resident of Khushab, was arrested at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, after one kilogram of heroin was found in his trolley bag. He was attempting to fly for Jeddah.
A car was stopped near Thokar Niaz Baig in Lahore and 19kg of opium was recovered from its secret cavities. An occupant of the car, Rehmat Ullah, a resident of Bajuar Agency, was held.
An alleged drug supplier, Samundar Khan, a resident of Okara, was detained and 2.2 kilograms of Charas was found in his possession. He was arrested near Lahore-Multan Bypass, Okara.
Zeeshan was arrested during a raid conducted in Pathan Colony in Hyderabad and 3kg of Charas was recovered from his possession.
The ANF Quetta raided a desolate area in Qilla Abdullah district and seized 3,056 kilograms of opium. The site was being guarded by armed men who fled the scene taking advantage of darkness after an exchange of fire with the ANF personnel.
Cases were registered against the suspects and investigations were under way.

Evidently, Moslems are just wild crazy Party animals. Out for a good time and 1.7 Billion skinneros worth of Laughs. Don't you wish you were a Moslem?
Hand-rolled solid hashish from the Himalayan foothills, esp. Charas in India. Very dark, almost black in colour with a high THC content and distinctive taste and aroma, it is a far superior smoke to the more popular hybrid Skunk varieties. Expensive and hard to come by compared to said skunk.
Known as 'the breath of Buddha'.
'Charas, my friend. Trust me, you'll never go back..'
Would have been better to let the shipment proceed but inform the Saudis of the incoming. The smugglers would have received a flashy (present scimitars!) welcome.

QUETTA: Security forces claimed on Tuesday to have arrested four suspected militants in a search operation launched in Margat area of Bolan district following a bomb attack on FC personnel.
Six personnel of the Frontier Corps were killed and another injured in the Margat coal-mine area on Monday when a remote-controlled IED, planted on a road, was detonated near their convoy.
Subsequently, the FC launched the search operation in the area which continued on Tuesday. “The FC has taken four suspected militants into custody,” said a spokesman for the force, adding that they had been handed over to the authorities concerned for interrogation.
The troops also claim to have seized arms and ammunition from Mugha Kibzai area of Zhob district where they conducted a raid following a tip-off regarding the presence of extremists affiliated with a banned organisation. The seized goods include hand grenades, pistols and thousands of bullets. No arrest was reported.
PESHAWAR: At least 10 people were killed and over 20 wounded when a bomb exploded near a security checkpost situated close to the Karkhano Market area here on Tuesday, rescue officials said.
Most of the dead include personnel from the Khyber Khasadar Force, rescue sources said. Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Fazlullah group claimed responsibility for the attack.
The blast, which targeted a vehicle of the Khasadar Force, also killed the Assistant Line Officer Nawabshah and president of the Tribal Union of Journalists Mehmoob Shah.
"Although the exact nature of the blast is being ascertained, it appears to be a suicide attack," said political agent Khyber Agency Shahab Ali Shah.
He said 10 people were confirmed to have died in the blast that targeted Khasadar personnel.
The explosion occurred in Khyber Agency's Jamrud area, near Karkhano, said Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Mubarak Zeb Khan. Karkhano is the gateway to Peshawar from the tribal belt.
According to initial reports, the exact nature of the blast could not yet be ascertained. However, eyewitnesses at the site claimed that the explosion was a suicide blast.
TV footage of the blast showed vehicles parked near the blast site caught fire after the explosion. The site was cordoned off.
An emergency was imposed at Hayatabad Medical Complex.
No one has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.
AFP adds: Toheed Zulfiqar, a public relations officer at Hayatabad Medical Complex, said the dead included a seven-year-old and six of the injured were in serious condition.
Khyber is part of Pakistan’s semi-autonomous tribal belt on the Afghan border. The area is known to have been a militant stronghold in the past.
Pakistan suffers frequent bomb and suicide attacks blamed on extremist militant groups and troops have for years been fighting homegrown armed groups in the tribal belt.
Pakistani security forces have carried out ground offensives in Khyber Agency, particularly the Tirah Valley of Bara which borders Nazyan.
The forces cleared much of the Bara plain in Operation Khyber One launched in October 2014 while in a follow-on operation named Khyber-2 cleared the fierce Tirah terrain consisting of deep valleys and high mountains.
Zarb-i-Azb, a military offensive launched in North Waziristan in 2014 following a brazen militant attack on Karachi's international airport, is also currently in its last stages.
The number of attacks in Pakistan fell around 70 per cent in 2015, due to a combination of a military offensive against Taliban bases along the Afghan border and government initiatives to tackle militancy.

[Ynet] 15-year-old allegedly responsible for stabbing Dafna Meir to death in Otniel has been captured in a Paleostinian city, apparently acted alone.
Security forces on Tuesday morning captured a 15-year-old, Morad Adais, who allegedly murdered Dafna Meir on Sunday in a terror attack at her home. He was apprehended at his home in Yatta, near Otniel, where the murder took place and south of Hebron.
It appears that like most of the holy warriors in the wave of violence that began in September, Adais acted alone and had no previous record, thus making it extremely difficult for security forces to know of his plans in advance.
Har Hevron Regional Council chief Yochai Damari said the terrorist entered Otniel by finding a breach in the settlement's defenses.
Video released on Monday showed the terrorist's escape from Otniel. Reports that day said the terrorist appeared to have fled in the direction of Yatta. Tuesday's capture also put to rest rumors that the terrorist was a laborer at Otniel. Adais was not employed as a laborer and presumably snuck into Otniel. The settlement is fenced only in the forested area between one of the large yeshivot and Highway 60, from which holy warriors infiltrated in the past. In other parts of the settlements there is no fence, but only electronic measures such as motion detectors and security cameras.
Witnesses reported a brutal scene on Sunday: Dafna Meir was painting her house's doorframe when the terrorist approached her from behind and stuck his knife in her head. Meir's daughter Renana, the eldest of six children, was present and called for help, her screams helping to scare him off.

Investigators have traced the problem to a faulty starter-generator, but have been unable to pinpoint why it goes haywire or devise a permanent fix."

IIRC, UAVs always have a higher crash rate than manned aircraft. It is expected. It is built into the system operational design. Single string systems with lots of possible point failures.
From the article, it sounds like they were caught out on this lack of system redundancy to get the apparent airframe unit cost down.
Then all it takes is a bad batch of , say motor generators to get thru QA/QC, and the wapo has this month's gloom & doom, They-Are-Wasting-Dollars-on-Defense Wimmins-and-Chilluns-Hardest-hit liberal cry fest.

Without pilots on board, the requirement for redundant systems go away with cost savings. Now they have a $14 million dollar aircraft with no back up electrical system. Smart move air force....

[Bangkok Post] A village security guard and his wife were gunned down at a rubber plantation in Yala province early on Monday morning.
Duty officer Chamnong Kaewpimol said Ma-ae Limada-i and his wife left their house to tap latex at a plantation near their village. When they had not returned home by 8 a.m., their relatives went to the plantation to fetch them as it was time for Ma-ae to go on security patrol at the village school. Instead they found both of them lying dead, having been shot many times each.
Police believed at least two attackers had hidden in the plantation. They blamed insurgents, pointing out that the couple's son is also a defense volunteer in the district.
[The Standard] Armed men believed to be members of a Philippine terrorist group with links to Daesh detonated a bomb Tuesday morning in a port terminal in Lamitan, Basilan, as the military finally admitted the presence of nine foreign terrorists.
Lamitan chief of police Gean Gallardo said the bomb went off near the main entrance to the terminal. The blast damaged a water tank and shattered windows but there were no reported casualties.
The bombing comes a day after Armed Forces chief Gen. Hernando Iriberri confirmed that at least nine foreign terrorists have sought sanctuary in Mindanao for years, assisting local terrorists in bomb making techniques.
Iriberri flew to Mindanao shortly after the Jakarta bombing, emphasizing the need for security forces to increase pressure on the Abu Sayyaf and other militant groups harboring foreign jihadis in Basilan, Sulu and Central Mindanao.
Of the nine foreign terrorists, four were Malaysian nationals identified as University Malaya lecturer Mahmud bin Ahmad, former Selayang Municipal Council employee Muhammad Joraimee Bin Awang Raimee, Mohammad Amin Baco and Jeknal bin Adil.
Malaysian Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said their compatriots who were enlisted by the Islamic State fled to Mindanao after an intensified crackdown was launched against them in 2013. He said the Islamist militants are associated with Daulah Islamiyah Asia Tenggara (Southeast Asia Islamiya Network) with links to Daesh.
In January 2015, Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir was killed in a clash with commandos in the ill-fated Operation Exodus in Mamasapano, where 44 policemen were slain. Troops also killed an Indonesian terrorist, Sucipto Ibrahim Ali, a member of the Mujahidin Indonesia Timur, along with six Filipino militants, as well as Moho Najib bin Husen last year.
Iriberri said it was not clear if the Abu Sayyaf was receiving funding from Daesh or other terrorist organizations.
He also said they are checking into reports that an Indonesian terrorist who led the attack in Jakarta might have fled to Mindanao and eventually established an alliance with local rebels.

[ARA News] TEL ABYAD – Turkish army troops bombed on Tuesday headquarters of the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) in the Syrian border city of Tel Abyad, military sources reported.
Several artillery shells fired by the Turkish army hit the YPG headquarters in the border city of Tel Abyad.
At least two Kurdish fighters were injured and three armored vehicles were destroyed in the Turkish attack, the YPG leadership reported on Tuesday evening.
Tel Abyad city is located north of Raqqa province –the de facto capital of the Islamic State (ISIS) extremist group.
The city, which includes a crossing on Syria-Turkey border, was recaptured by the Kurdish forces in June, subsequent to fierce battles against ISIS militants. Since then, the Turkish border police and army troops have bombed the Kurdish headquarters for 23 times, according to Kurdish officials.
“Those attacks explain the Turkish support to ISIS terrorists,” YPG spokesman Habun Osman told ARA News in Tel Abyad.
“When the city was under ISIS control, the Turkish army has never launched any such operations. However, since the Kurdish forces liberated Tel Abyad, the Turkish army has repeatedly bombed the city and its suburb,” Osman said.
KOBANE – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) executed a woman in the northeastern Syrian city of Raqqa after accusing her of “committing adultery”, local sources reported on Tuesday. The victim was reportedly stoned to death in central Raqqa.
“The woman was a western jihadi in the ranks of ISIS. She was accused by the Sharia Court of committing adultery,” a local media activist told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.
“She was stoned to death in front of hundreds of people in Raqqa’s central square,” the source, who witnessed the execution, reported on Tuesday.
This is the first time that ISIS executes one of its own female jihadis on charges of adultery.

SULAYMANIYAH – Kurdish Counter-Terrorism special forces arrested on Tuesday a terror cell linked to the Islamic State (ISIS) in Sulaymaniyah city of Iraqi Kurdistan.
The members of the terror cell were reportedly planning to conduct a series of terrorist attacks across the Kurdistan Region.
Sulaymaniyah’s police department said in a statement that the Counter-Terrorism special forces raided suspected houses and arrested several terrorists.
“The forces also found a large deal of explosive devices in the raided houses in central Sulaymaniyah,” the statement added.
The members of the ISIS-linked terror cell were Arab and Kurdish jihadis recruited by ISIS, the police reported.
Speaking to ARA News in Sulaymaniyah, a police official said that hundreds of local residents of Iraqi Kurdistan have been recruited by ISIS group over the past few years.
“We are aware of such a movement inside the Kurdistan Region, and our special forces are pursing every citizen involved in contacts with the ISIS terror group,” he said.

[Iran Press TV] The Syrian government has strongly denounced the recent massacre by Daesh [Islamic State]Takfiri ...an adherent of takfir wal hijra, an offshoot of Salafism that regards everybody who doesn't agree with them as apostates who must be killed... snuffies in the eastern Deir al-Zour Province, saying the responsibility for the crime lies with the supporters of terrorist groups operating across the Arab state.
In two identical letters to United Nations ...boodling on the grand scale... Secretary General the ephemeral Ban Ki-moon and the head of the UN Security Council, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that such killings are a continuation of a series of barbaric and methodical terrorist acts by gangs, Syria's official news agency SANA reported on Tuesday.
The ministry said the bully boy groups are receiving funds from some regional countries as well as states outside the region, noting that these countries recruit snuffies to serve their interests.
The ministry also pointed out that such crimes would not have happened without the constant funding, arming, and logistic support provided by intelligence agencies of certain states especially Soddy Arabia ...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face... , Qatar ...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. [Huffpoo] ISIS fighters aren't getting any year-end pay raises this January. In fact, in response to mounting military and economic pressure across Syria and Iraq, the terror group is slashing salaries, newly-leaked ISIS documents show.
The administrative records reveal that ISIS leaders in Raqqa, the group's de-facto capital in Syria, reduced the monthly salaries of all fighters by half sometime around November or December of last year, just as the U.S. began to dramatically increase its airstrikes against ISIS-held oil fields and other financial targets.
"On account of the exceptional circumstances the Islamic State is facing, it has been decided to reduce the salaries that are paid to all mujahideen by half," reads the official notice, which was translated and first published by Aymenn Jawad al-Tamimi, an ISIS expert and fellow at the Middle East Forum. "It is not allowed for anyone to be exempted from this decision, whatever his position."
It also notes that fighters will continue to be paid twice a month, as usual.

ERBIL – Amid intensifying airstrikes by the U.S.-led coalition on the positions of jihadis in Iraq’s northwestern province of Nineveh, radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) has transferred a number of it top militant commanders to Libya and Yemen.
Speaking to ARA News, head of Nineveh Media Network Raafat al-Zarari said that a number of ISIS top commanders have left the group’s headquarters in Nineveh province over the past two weeks.
“More than 20 leading members of the group have headed to ISIS strongholds in Yemen and Libya,” said al-Zarari, quoting an ISIS official in Mosul city.
“The group is trying to avoid the loss of more prominent leaders in the raids of the western coalition,” the source reported. ISIS is also trying to strengthen its positions in Yemen and Libya.”
This comes after the U.S.-led coalition intensified its raids on the group’s positions across the region, killing a number of ISIS military commanders and security officials. The coalition has been targeting meeting points of influential militants of ISIS in northern Iraq for weeks.
On Monday, at least nine leading members of the extremist group were killed in a U.S. airstrike, including Hajim Ahmed al-Aswad –ISIS leader in Baaj, northern Iraqi.
Earlier on Thursday, a similar airstrike hit the group’s headquarters in Mosul city, killing more than 30 ISIS militants.
